Latest releases from Memory Records:

The Czech fan club label Memory Records will release two new live CDs next week. Both CDs are dedicated to Elvis' appearances in Las Vegas in 1975. The sound of these "audience" recorded CDs has been digitally improved.

The first CD, Las Vegas Moonlight (CD MR 2048-2), contains the December 10, 10 P.M. (dinner) show. This show was previously available on an old import CD in very incomplete form and in poor sound. This new release is taken from different original audience recorded mono master tape. Originally, the concert was long about 82 minutes. Producers decided to edit out 2:30 minutes of Elvis’ dialogue to fit the show on to one compact disc. However, no songs or instrumental band solos were edited. Elvis was in a particularly good mood and his high spirits were evident as he sung "Can't Help Falling In Love" as the second song of the show. This version was performed practically acapela and followed immediately by the closing vamp. Elvis acted like he was going to end the show and left the stage. However he came back immediately and continued with a short but complete "When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again", a true live rarity. Elvis then showed his full vocal power in "Trying To Get To You", "You Gave Me A Mountain", and "Just Pretend" to name just a few of the highlights. He dedicates "How Great Thou Art" to his friend evangelist Rex Humbard and near the end of the show performs "My Way" by request for the first time since May 1974. He is unsure in the lyrics and he gets some help from his accompanying singer Sherrill Nielsen during the song which makes this particular performance very special too.

Tracklist: 01. Also Sprach Zarathustra (A 2001 Space Odyssey Theme) - 02. See See Rider - 03. Can't Help Falling In Love (No.1) - 04. Closing Vamp (No.1) - 05. When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again - 06. I Got A Woman / Amen (medley) - 07. Love Me - 08. Fairytale - 09. And I Love You So - 10. Trying To Get To You - 11. All Shook Up - 12. Teddy Bear / Don't Be Cruel (medley) - 13. You Gave Me A Mountain - 14. Polk Salad Annie - 15. Band Introductions - 16. Johnny B. Goode - 17. Drums Solo (by Ronnie Tutt) - 18. Bass Solo (Blues by Jerry Scheff) - 19. Piano Solo (by Glen D. Hardin) - 20. School Day (No.1) - 21. School Day (No.2) - 22. Just Pretend (with 2 false starts) - 23. How Great Thou Art (with reprise) - 24. Softly As I Leave You (duet with Sherrill Nielsen) - 25. America (The Beautiful) - 26. Mystery Train / Tiger Man (medley) - 27. My Way (with false start, duet with Sherrill Nielsen) - 28. Blue Christmas - 29. Can't Help Falling In Love (No.2) - 30. Closing Vamp (No.2). Approx. running time: 79:41

The second CD, Springtime In Nevada (CD MR 2049-2) represents ' Spring 1975 Las Vegas engagement. This mono audience recording is previously unreleased and apparaently in very good sound quality. The CD runs for almost 70 minutes. Elvis’ dinner show on March 25 was a very typical concert for this season. Elvis was less chatty and he concentrated more on his singing. His voice was strong again and he gave several solid performances of recent songs, whilst the majority of his old standards were excluded from the set list. Among the best moments of this show are spellbinding performances of his "Stax" numbers "It's Midnight", "Promised Land" and "My Boy". Elvis paid attention to rock and rhythm and blues numbers again and he treated songs like "Big Boss Man", "Burning Love" and "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" with gusto and respect. The latter two tracks are included as special bonuses and were taken from another tape, recorded live during the following spring tour in Tampa, Florida on April 26 at the 8:30 P.M. show.

Tracklist: 01. Opening Vamp / See See Rider - 02. I Got A Woman / Amen (medley) - 03. I Can Help (excerpt) / Love Me - 04. If You Love Me (Let Me Know) - 05. And I Love You So - 06. Big Boss Man - 07. It's Midnight - 08. Dialogues, jokes - 09. Promised Land - 10. Fairytale - 11. Band Introductions - 12. What'd I Say (instrumental, by James Burton) - 13. Drums Solo (by Ronnie Tutt) - 14. Bass Solo (by Duke Bardwell) - 15. Piano Solo (by Glen D. Hardin) - 16. Electric Piano Solo (by David Briggs) - 17. School Day (Hail Hail Rock'n'Roll) - 18. Baptist Hospital - And the walls come tumbling down: Following is a press release from Memphis Bioworks Foundation regarding the demolition of Baptist Hospital, where Elvis was treated on several occasions and where the official prounouncement of his passing occurred and where his daughter Lisa Marie was born.

The Memphis Bioworks Foundation has announced that the implosion of the main tower of the Baptist Hospital on Union Avenue will occur on November 6, 2005, at 6:30 a.m.

The implosion of the 924,000-square-foot tower is part of the Foundation’s second phase of demolition as it makes way for construction of the UT-Baptist Research Park. The research park will ultimately consist of 1.2 million square feet of laboratory, research, education and business development space located on a 10-acre campus in the heart of the Memphis Medical District. The new campus will integrate research, teaching and biomedical development.

The first phase consisted of the removal of the four-story Service building in January of this year. The eight-story Interns’ Residence and the 10-story Physicians and Surgeons buildings were then imploded in May.

“Once the main tower has been cleared away, we’ll be able to begin work on the centerpiece of our infrastructure development for the city’s biosciences – the UT-Baptist Research Park,” said Dr. Steven J. Bares, Executive Director and President of the Memphis Bioworks Foundation. “We now will be able to build highly specialized facilities for Memphis’ growing bioscience community, thereby attracting new companies and further boosting the economic growth of the region.”

Bares added that the clean up and debris removal process is expected to be finished in about 11 months.

The completion of the UT-Baptist Research Park is estimated to take ten years, and will be completed in six phases. The Foundation is executing a business plan that is leveraging Memphis’ unique assets to fulfill the nation’s need for an urban biotech research park. When completed, the entire development will provide $250 million in annual salaries for 5,000 new jobs and $2 billion in annual economic impact.

Memphis Bioworks Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, was formed in early 2001 to establish the Memphis region as an internationally recognized center for biomedical technology. Baptist Memorial Health Care donated its property in the Medical Center to the Foundation for the site of its research park, the focal point of the biomedical and economic development. The research park, which will include an incubation program to develop new businesses in biotechnology, will be the centerpiece of a larger biomedical research and development center.

Elvis's cousin and The Jordanaires ready to rock "Heartbreak Hotel": His name is Presley, he has a distinctive American accent - and he's performing in Wales. But before you start thinking Elvis is still alive after all, it's not The King taking to the stage. It's the next best thing - his cousin Jerry Presley. And one of the venues he will be appearing at is the Heartbreak Hotel.

Jerry is the first male member of the Presley family to visit the UK. He flew into London last night ahead of the second Porthcawl Elvis Festival, which opens tomorrow. Jerry will be performing five tribute concerts to his iconic cousin during the festival weekend. He decided to travel to Wales from his home in Kansas City for the three-day event after learning about it from the owners of London's Elvisly Yours, which sells Elvis memorabilia.

'The festival's a great idea - it's a good opportunity for fans to hear more about Elvis and his music,' said Jerry, who possesses the unmistakable Presley voice.

The festival will feature Elvis tribute artists from all over the world, including Mario Kombou, recently crowned in Memphis World Champion Elvis tribute.

'There are a lot of good tribute artists out there,' said Jerry, whose great-grandfather was the brother of Elvis's great-grandfather. 'It's amazing that 27 years after his death his popularity continues to grow - you can't say that about any other person. He was The King - there will never be another Elvis Presley.'

Jerry believes Elvis, who died on August 16, 1977, would be a little bemused with his iconic status if he were still alive.

'He never liked being called The King, but as far as the phenomenon of his popularity is concerned, he would give credit to all his fans.'

While millions of people loved Elvis's public persona as the music and film legend, Jerry knew the 'real' Elvis.

'He was a typical, everyday, normal human being,' said Jerry. 'He loved to have fun - he was a big joker.'

Jerry does not see much of Elvis's family. 'I don't see Priscilla or Lisa-Marie too often as they are in another part of the country.'

Jerry has a busy work schedule and stages scores of shows throughout America every year.

'I get a very positive reaction from Elvis's fans,' he said. 'I try to pay tribute to him in a first-class way. I try to keep the shows classy - nothing cheesy.'

Jerry travels with a 16-piece band, The Jordanaires, who were Elvis's original backing singers. He will make his Welsh debut tonight with a performance at The Litten Tree in Bridgend. His other gigs as part of the Porthcawl Elvis Festival will be at Trecco Bay Holiday Park (tomorrow, 9pm); The Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl (Saturday, 8pm); Hi-Tide Inn, Porthcawl (Sunday, 1pm) and Heartbreak Hotel, Porthcawl (Sunday, 9pm). The festival, which begins tomorrow and ends on Sunday, was launched last year by organiser Peter Phillips and was a huge success.

'I wanted to do something for Porthcawl and had an idea to put on an award show for Elvis tribute artists to give them the recognition they deserve. I had no idea it would be as big as it was. It was the biggest Elvis festival in Europe and the second biggest in the world. When I went to America people had heard of Porthcawl because of the festival.' (Almost Elvis, Source: icWales)

Stop the presses! Elvis has left the building...at least in Montpelier, Vermont: Sure there are still a few remnants of what is billed on the back of the business card for Charlie-O's as "the nearest shrine to Graceland," – 194 feet separate the Main Street bar and Minuteman Press on State Street where for more than two decades Pinky Clark proudly displayed his impressive collection of Elvis Presley memorabilia.

"That's one of the things I'm known for," says the self-described "Elvis fanatic," who recently sold the print shop that he and his wife, Jean, opened in 1983.

A colorful Elvis-shaped plaque still hangs on one wall and one of Presley's albums sits on the corner of a cluttered tabletop, but folks who have wandered into the Minuteman Press over the past few weeks have surely noticed the change of décor.

"Let's just say Elvis is in storage," jokes Pinky, who is still hoeing out the last of his personal belongings after selling the local Minuteman franchise to Montpelier residents John and Nancy Cunningham. (News, Source: Times Argus)

Elvis by the Presleys CBS News promotion: It's been out for a while now but the CBS News website is still carrying promotion for it this week:

Elvis Presley was an icon who is still, 28 years after his death, loved by millions. While many admired him, few really knew him.

The woman who may have known him best was his ex-wife Priscilla Presley. She shares her memories in a new CBS special called "Elvis By The Presleys".

In the special, Priscilla and Lisa Marie speak with unguarded candor about their lives with the legendary Elvis Presley and offer an intimate look at their family and private life.

"I'm a very shy person. My daughter and I don't do a lot of interviews, but we felt there was a whole new generation of people who were discovering Elvis and his music," Priscilla Presley tells The Early Show in a pre-interview. "There are many books and stories that have been written about him, but there are still so many questions that needed to be answered, so we figured it was time to tell our story. We are sharing some very intimate and personal things, but I really wanted to show the definitive Elvis, warts and all."

Rare interviews with Elvis' first cousin, Patsy Presley Geranen, and Priscilla's parents, Ann and Paul Beaulieu, are also featured.

"My mom is 79, my dad is 80," Priscilla Presley notes. "I felt they had so much to add, and we didn't want them to pass on and feel we let the opportunity go. We knew from the very beginning that this was going to be difficult."

Vintage, never-before-seen performance footage will be interwoven with photographs from the Presley Estate archives and press coverage of Elvis over the years. Private home movies of the Presley family illustrate and illuminate his story with vivid detail, honest insight and great warmth.

Different aspects of Elvis' life, including his tours, his time in Hollywood and his home life, are depicted with the insight that only his family can bring. His career ups and downs, his kindness and generosity and his human frailties are all brought to light as well as a reflection on his place in entertainment history and his enduring legacy.

Stay tuned for Priscilla Presley's inteview Thursday morning.

You can see the special "Elvis By The Presleys" Friday night at 8:00 p.m./ET – 7:00 p.m./CT, on CBS. This week, a companion book and CD, with the same name will also be released. (News, Source: CBS News)

Ann-Margret was nominated for   Oscars for her performances in "Carnal Knowledge" and "Tommy," and starred opposite   Elvis Presley in "Viva Las Vegas." Max Pellicano talks with EIN: 'Elvis To The Max' is a dynamic Elvis tribute show that has been thrilling Australian audiences for over a decade. Unlike most Elvis imitators Max Pellicano is a trained actor who manages to capture the style, vocals & magic of an Elvis performance. EIN's Piers Beagley interviewed Max Pellicano in Tweed Heads last week, to find out more about 'Elvis To The Max'. (Interview, Source: EIN)

Bill E. Burk identifies two previously unknown "early" shows by Elvis and the Blue Moon Boys: In their continuing search for early gigs that Elvis and the Blue Moon Boys played, gigs that have not been listed anywhere before, Bill & Connie Burk have found another small town where the trio played. Full details will appear in Bill's excellent quarterly magazine, Elvis World #78. (News, Source: Bill E. Burk)

Supplies of "Elvis The Concert Years" not limited: Bill E. Burk tells us that contrary to hyped advertising posted elsewhere this week, supply of this great coffee table book is anything but "limited."

Years ago, Norway's Pal Granlund reached an agreement with Bill whereby he took possession of his remaining stock (numbering in the 100's).

At a size of 8x11 (A-4) and weighing 5 pounds (2.5 kg) . . . this book reports on all of Elvis' concerts from his return to the stage in 1969 to the last one.  Brilliant color photographs are included throughout the book, edited by Stein-Erik Skar and printed in perfect English.

CONCERT YEARS is the most-inclusive book ever written on E's concerts during those years.  Bill has long ranked it as the #1 Elvis book ever published.

Bill's Elvis World sells it at two bargain prices:
+    US$65 + shipping to the general public

+    US$50 + shipping to EW subscribers

"King of the Mountain" - another brooding epic: This is a reminder of what we have been missing with Kate Bush's absence. Tori Amos, Björk and others have attempted to eclipse Bush's otherworldliness, musicality and sheer weirdness, but none has come close and King Of The Mountain shows why.

It's a brooding epic which begins with an ominous guitar riff before that instantly recognisable voice charges in. "Could you see the aisles of women? Could you see them screaming and weeping?" she asks.

As ever, she is too subtle a writer to offer answers to who the king is and where his mountain might be, but there are references to Elvis (Presley?) and Rosebud, the talismanic sledge in Orson Welles' Citizen Kane.

The allegorical lyrical mystery makes her music more alluring. Bush was always a uniquely physical writer, but the more this song progresses, the more she sounds buffeted by the elements atop a frozen mountain. Gales howl around her before she concludes: "The wind, it blows the door closed." It is not easy listening, but it is a landmark work. I can't wait for Aerial. Crying In the Chapel/In The Ghetto "reggae" mixes "hot sellers": This two track CD and vinyl single (and a number of other "reggae" mixes of Elvis songs) is changing hands on ebay and through private sales for up to US$75.00, yet its list price is less than US$10.00! EIN has listened to the remixes and cautions buyers - they really aren't very inspiring. Click to listen to a sample of each song. A much better buy is the underground" remix of the "I Shall Be Released/It's Only Love" medley ". (News, Source: ebay/various)

CKX, Inc. to acquire and shut down 'Elvis' Themed Museum in Las Vegas - Company Will cease operations, clearing path for major themed attractions in Las Vegas and independent attraction in Hawaii: CKX, Inc. (Nasdaq: CKXE) announced today that its subsidiary, Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc., has agreed to acquire the assets of the Elvis-A-Rama museum, located off the strip in Las Vegas, including the trademark to the name "Elvis-A-Rama," the related website and a substantial portion of the memorabilia currently on display at the Las Vegas-based establishment. The existing museum will be permanently closed and the Elvis-A-Rama name retired as part of CKX's overall plan to bring a world class Elvis-themed attraction to the Las Vegas strip.

Robert F.X. Sillerman, Chairman and CEO of CKX commented, "As we have mentioned on numerous occasions, establishing a major presence for the 'Elvis' brand in Las Vegas is an important priority of the company. The closure of the museum together with the purchase of the artifacts and memorabilia currently located there, clears the way for implementation of our plan."

CKX is acquiring these assets from Chris Davidson and certain other minority partners. Mr. Davidson has been collecting Elvis memorabilia for over ten years and is among the world's most well known private collectors of such items.

As part of the purchase, the Company will grant to Mr. Davidson the right to open a licensed Elvis-themed museum in Hawaii, a location often associated with Mr. Presley. In addition to receipt of the licensing fee, the Company will retain the right to acquire a significant equity interest in the Hawaiian operations. Hawaii served as the location for three of Mr. Presley's films and perhaps most famously, was home to the 1973 concert "Elvis, Aloha from Hawaii," which was broadcast worldwide and ultimately viewed by more than 1.5 billion people around the world. Lyrics to new Elvis tribute song by Kate Bush: Kate Bush's "haunting" tribute to Elvis is starting to get airplay in the UK. Here are the lyrics to what is a great song (News, Source: Sanja Meegin):

King of the Mountain

Could you see the aisles of women?
Could you see them screaming and weeping?
Could you see the storm rising?
Could you see the guy who was driving?
Could you climb higher and higher?
Could you climb right over the top?
Why does a multi-millionaire
Fill up his home with priceless junk?

The wind is whistling
The wind is whistling
Through the house

Elvis are you out there somewhere
Looking like a happy man?
In the snow with Rosebud
And king of the mountain

Another
Hollywood waitress
Is telling us she's having your baby
And there's a rumour that you're on ice
And you will rise again someday
And that there's a photograph
Where you're dancing on your grave

The wind is whistling
The wind is whistling
Through the house

Elvis are you out there somewhere
Looking like a happy man?
In the snow with Rosebud

Desert Storm: The Shattering Of A Myth (Book Review): This is the most controversial book about Elvis in years. The strength of Desert Storm is its willingness to openly confront and seriously question widely accepted positions in the Elvis world. The reader doesn't have to accept all of the author's arguments but if read with an open mind, the book is a rich and rewarding experience. (Book Review, Source: EIN)

Elvis & United Nations concert update: There has been much confusion and uncertainty concerning our earlier reports that the Elvis recording, If I Can Dream, was being considered for inclusion in the UN 60th Anniversary concert - a concert which now appears uncertain. Brian Quinn sent EIN the following message which at least clears up why Robert Stigwood (see 24 September) couldn't recall saying the song would be used: "Just read your article about the United Nations and Elvis being featured with 'If I Can Dream'. In the article you mention Robert Stigwood. In fact the Producer of the Show is Stig Edgren of 'Elvis The Concert' fame and not Robert Stigwood". (News, Source: Brian Quinn)

Aussie chart update: Elvis By The Presleys slipped eleven places to #33 on this week's ARIA Music DVD Top 40 chart. It has been on the chart for 14 weeks having reached a peak of #3. While it remains on the chart sales are sluggish as it is still to reach double platinum (30,000 units sold) status. (News, Source: ARIA)

The Priscilla Presley Collection: AUSTRALIAN businessman Bruno Schiavi took Delta Goodrem's knickers to the world and now he's climbing into bed with Priscilla Presley. Schiavi has joined forces with Presley to release a range of bed linen, robes, slippers, towels and candles.

"We are out in the world fighting battles every single day and the one place you come home to is a place that is like your bedroom that is a sanctuary for you," Presley said from her Los Angeles home.

"I love the fabrics. The collection shows versatility, uniqueness and style."

Schiavi relocated from Sydney to Los Angeles earlier this year to work with Presley on the collection which will be released in Australia in February next year.

"I am hands on with this with Bruno," said Elvis' ex, who also has her own perfume range. "I could never just lend my name and have somebody do all the work for me. I would feel like I am cheating myself and cheating the consumer."

Schiavi, who was this week listed in BRW magazine's young rich list, said he is often approached by celebrities looking to broaden their markets. The businessman specialises in working with high profile people and in the past has mostly worked on marketing lingerie ranges for celebrities, among them Delta Goodrem. He said the most important part of his endeavours is feeling a connection with the person he is working with.

"I could have met Priscilla and she could have been lovely but at the same time, if I didn't think we could work together, I wouldn't have gone ahead," Schiavi, 33, said. "Being a global launch, it is a huge challenge for my company and I have got to make sure this partnership actually lasts for a long time."

Schiavi is in negotiations with retail outlets internationally to distribute the Presley collection. Priscilla Presley will come to Australia in February or March 2006 to launch the first range.

"February is when I am hoping to come for the launch," she said. "And that gives me a chance to meet up with some friends that I have there too and share what we have created and hope that they are as excited as we are."

The Priscilla Presley Collection will consist of nine lines, with the bed linen made of fine egyptian cottons and in a range of colours from whites to browns, gold and green. One line was inspired by a favourite pair of Presley's pants.

Presley was married to Elvis from 1967 to 1973 and has two children, Lisa Marie Presley and Navarone Garibaldi. Aside from her new business venture, Presley has been working on the release of the Elvis by the Presleys book and DVD.

"I have been taken aback by the success of both the DVD and the book," she said. "I couldn't be happier and I know that means a lot to the (Elvis Presley) Estate. "Again, it shows that Elvis certainly is probably more popular than he was when he was alive. His legacy just keeps going." (News, Source: AP/Sanja Meegin)

EPE rhetoric surfaces again: EIN has no problems with fair promotion, but when a major Broadway "Elvis" musical has gone under in the midst of internal troubles, the least we can expect is balanced reporting from EPE. However, the financially troubled and internally doomed "All Shook Up" gets the 'rosy cheeked' and selectively omitting facts treatment from the "corporation":

All Shook Up, the Elvis-inspired musical that opened on Broadway on March 24 at the Palace Theatre ends its run on September 25. All Shook Up plays Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 PM with matinees Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2:00 PM and Sundays at 3:00 PM. Tickets are available by calling (212) 307-4100 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com. See it on Broadway if you can. If not, do not despair. Watch for an announcement in 2006 when this delightful musical is expected to hit the road, maybe coming to a town near you! (News, Source: EPE)

'Too Much Monkey Business' (FTD review): EIN looks back at this FTD 'special extra' release from 2000. It focussed on the Nashville "Young 'Un Sound" overdub sessions organised by Elvis' associate producer Felton Jarvis in early 1980. While there are a few hidden gems, in the end these sessions charmingly emphasise just how much Elvis really was the true producer of his own recordings. (FTD Review, Source: EIN)

Robbie Williams asks Elvis to grant him serenity! It's nice to know that talented superstar Robbie Williams appreciates the spirit of Elvis. Of course all great fans have Elvis tattoos and Robbie is no exception. The tattoo on his right shouder asking Elvis, "Grant Me Serenity".

Elvis’ home Audubon Drive wins historic site nomination: There are no jungle rooms at 1034 Audubon Drive, no gold records and no pink Cadillacs.

But this modest ranch-style house in the Audubon Park Subdivision of southeast Memphis shares a history with Graceland, the famous white-columned mansion more than 10 miles away. The house Elvis Presley purchased at age 21, a home that his fame quickly outgrew, has been nominated to the National Register of Historic Places. The State Review Board approved the nomination Tuesday and now it moves on — just as Graceland did in 1991 — for approval at the national level.

Judith Johnson, an architecture historian in Memphis, helped the private owners put the house up for nomination. No stranger to Elvis history, Johnson was involved in protecting from demolition a Memphis public housing unit, Lauderdale Courts, where Elvis spent his teenage years. Now she’s hoping to put another Elvis homestead on the map.

Bought with his first royalty checks from RCA Studio on March 8, 1956, Elvis, his parents and grandmother lived in the four-bedroom house for only a year. One month after moving in, his single "Heartbreak Hotel" hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts, ultimately ending any privacy he had in the neighborhood.

Crowds of fans lined the suburban street and police frequently had to be called in to handle the growing problem. This massive, and often emotional, response by fans to Elvis and his music would come to characterize the rest of his life and career.
While Graceland is synonymous with the rock ’n’ roll legend, Johnson said, the little Audubon Drive house represents another period of Elvis’ life.
"The house represents the transition from being an unknown singer to a superstar," said Mike Freeman, one of the current owners. "Things changed forever for him in that house."
A Life magazine article from August 1956 had pictures of teenage girls sitting with their ears pressed to his bedroom wall and picking through the grass in his yard for souvenirs. "He really made his most significant impact on our culture while he lived in this home," Johnson said.

Freeman said that what made Elvis different from other musicians and celebrities was his affection for his fans, no matter how large the crowds. "He would never call the police," Freeman said. "He’d go out there and sign autographs."

In the short time the family was there, Elvis had a 50-footlong granite pool installed in the backyard and a den added to the house, according to records. The pool was the largest residential pool in Memphis when he built it.

Many of Alfred Wertheimer’s photographs of the emerging musician were shot at this house, chronicling Elvis’ growing fame and fortune. These photographs helped the owners recreate the interior decoration as close as possible with period furniture from the 1950s. In March 1957, Elvis swapped the house on Audubon Drive for a 14-acre estate with a two-story colonial already known as Graceland, a home that Elvis would make famous. Elvis' involvement with U.N. 60th Anniversary concert now uncertain: Earlier reports of Elvis' 'If I Can Dream' performance being a key song in the televised 60th Anniversary celebrations of the United Nations now seem uncertain. EIN contacted EPE who confirmed that they would be delighted if Elvis was part of the celebrations. However Robert Stigwood was puzzled by the quote from him, which he now can't recall. 'Stig' said that with all that is going on with the UN at present, it is not certain yet whether the show will actually happen. Whether Elvis & 'If I Can Dream' will be a part of the show depends on the many factors involved in putting the production together, but EPE will not be an obstacle. EPE told EIN that if it the show is confirmed and Elvis is involved, they will issue an e-newsletter alert. (News, Source: EIN)

‘Elvis To The Max’ is back! One of the world’s very best Elvis impersonators Max Pellicano is back in Australia for a 10 week tour. His first concert in Melbourne was described by fans as awesome. His voice was tremendous and the packed crowd of 700 truly felt the power of Elvis, as Max’s performance blew the roof off the house! Max’s tour also includes 3 performances next weekend at Sydney’s Star Casino. Check out Sanja Meegin’s concert review & photos, plus full concerts dates. Don’t miss out. (Almost Elvis, Source: EIN)

Elvis goes Reggae! 'All Shook Up - A Reggae Tribute To The King', the very first collection of Elvis covers, reggae style, is being released by Trojan Records on Nov 21, 2005. Following on from their excellent 2004 CD 'Is it Rolling Bob?: A Reggae Tribute to Bob Dylan' this album pays homage to The King in what would have been his 70th year. Jamaica has never had song copyright laws and so mainstream artists such as Jim Reeves, the Beatles, and Elvis were hugely popular in Jamaica throughout the 60s and 70s with reggae versions of their hits a common occurrence. In 1969 The Heptones had a smash hit with their reggae 'Suspicious Minds' cover.

'All Shook Up' includes Chaka Demus & Pliers (who made the Australian Top 20 in 1993 with 'Tease Me' & 'Twist & Shout') covering Don't Be Cruel. Other highlights are Hortense Ellis' Suspicious Minds, by super-producer Lee Perry, and Jackie Edwards' superb version of the title track. Interestingly the earlier 'Is It Rolling Bob?' featured a reggae version of 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right' a song released by both Elvis & Bob Dylan. Elvis fans may also remember 1991's extraordinary band Dread Zeppelin who toured Australia playing Led Zeppelin songs sung reggae style with an Elvis vocalist! If you saw them live it was a totally weird concept that worked extremely well! So for fans of Elvis, reggae & the bizarre this new CD will be a must-have purchase. Capitalising on Elvis’ recent singles success in the UK and its large reggae fan-base, the CD features reggae-fied versions of 10 Elvis #1s, including the UK's 1000th #1 single One Night.

The double LP represents the first steps into the recording studio of Popular Music’s biggest ever icon. 1 July 1973 - "Nashville, Tennessee met with Elvis in the flesh. Elvis did two shows to capacity audiences of 10,000 each and grossed $180,000 for the day. A record! There were requests for nearly 100,000 tickets and it must have made the promoters ill to have to return all that cash people had sent in for mail order tickets". Britain's answer to Elvis blames radio ban for ending his recording career: (This is isn't about Elvis but should interest many readers as it concerns Britain's "Elvis", Cliff Richard). For his diehard fans it will be a cause for dismay. Others might see it as an excuse for a celebration. Either way, Cliff Richard's announcement that he will not be releasing any more records closes the door on one of the most prolific careers in popular music. Sir Cliff's music is no longer as popular as it was - at least not with the arbiters of taste at UK radio stations. The 64-year-old yesterday blamed an unofficial boycott for driving him out of the recording industry. (News, Source: The Guardian)

Former Elvis impersonator is new front man for INXS: AUSTRALIAN rock band INXS claim their new singer has been approved by Michael Hutchence. Canadian JD Fortune -- a former Elvis impersonator who was so broke he slept in his car -- was chosen to replace the late Hutchence on yesterday's finale of reality TV show Rock Star. INXS guitarist Tim Farriss said a surprise thunderstorm in LA yesterday -- the day they had to choose their new singer -- was a sign from Hutchence; it had not rained the entire time they had been in Hollywood to film Rock Star. "Red Elvis" painting sparks court battle: Swedish heiress Kersten Lindholm of Greenwich is fighting a court ruling that declared newsprint magnate Peter Brant the rightful owner of "Red Elvis," a 6-foot-tall painting that features 36 identical images of Elvis Presley's face. Brant bought the painting five years ago from Lindholm's art dealer, who was later convicted of stealing it. Last month, after a three-year legal battle, a Stamford Superior Court judge ruled Brant the rightful owner of the painting.

Lindholm had filed a civil suit alleging that Brant and Swedish art dealer Anders Malmberg conspired to buy the painting without her permission. Lindholm's attorney, Lawrence Weinstein of Proskauer Rose in Manhattan, said she filed an appeal last week.

Brant, a longtime Warhol collector, paid $2.9 million to buy the painting from Malmberg, who had represented Lindholm in many art transactions, according to court documents. The painting is now in Brant's private collection. Court papers indicate that Malmberg lied and said he had bought the painting from Lindholm, then offered to sell it to Brant.

But Lindholm alleges in her lawsuit that Brant knew she owned the painting and conspired with Malmberg to buy it. Superior Court Judge Chase Rogers ruled last month that Brant made a reasonable effort to confirm that Malmberg was authorized to sell the painting.

"This decision basically vindicates Mr. Brant as the innocent purchaser who paid fair value for the painting," said his Stamford attorney, Jay Sandak. "Mrs. Lindholm was wronged by Malmberg."

Weinstein said Brant's due diligence should have alerted him that the painting could not be sold because of a court order barring the sale of property while Kersten Lindholm was divorcing her husband, Magnus. Kersten Lindholm's lawsuit sought the return of the painting, monetary damages of not less than $12 million, and punitive damages. Brant bought the painting while it was on exhibit in Europe as part of a Warhol tour put on by the Guggenheim Museum of New York.

In 2003, Malmberg began serving a three-year term in Sweden on criminal theft charges in connection with the sale of "Red Elvis." He has not paid Kersten Lindholm the $2.9 million sale price of the painting.

"He appears to be judgment proof," Weinstein said. "If he has any assets he has hidden them very well." (News/Odd Spot, Source: Boston News/Sanja Meegin)

All Shook Up to close: Not surprisingly (see our earlier stories dated 19, 18 & 15 September), All Shook Up, the Elvis-inspired musical that stars Cheyenne Jackson and Jenn Gambatese, will play its final performance at the Palace Theatre Sept. 25.

All Shook Up began previews on Broadway Feb. 20 with an official opening March 24. The musical will have played 33 previews and 213 regular performances. A national tour of the musical, according to a press statement, is being planned.

All Shook Up, which boasts a cast of 30, also features Jonathan Hadary, Leah Hocking, Curtis Holbrook, Nikki M. James, John Jellison, Alix Korey, Mark Price and Sharon Wilkins. The musical has a book by Joe DiPietro, choreography by Ken Roberson with additional choreography by Sergio Trujillo. Christopher Ashley directed.

All Shook Up tells the story of "a small town girl (Gambatese) who dreams of hitting the open road, and the guitar-playing stranger (Jackson) who brings romance, rebellion and rock 'n' roll into her life." Among the Presley tunes heard in the show are "Heartbreak Hotel," "Burning Love," "Love Me Tender," "Can't Help Falling in Love," "Jailhouse Rock," "Blue Suede Shoes," "A Little Less Conversation," "Hound Dog," "Don't Be Cruel" and "All Shook Up."

Plaque for Arizona Memorial: Elvis documentary maker and Elvis Express regular, Bernard Roughton has told Elvis Express he was able to gain access to the Bloch Arena Nr Pearl Harbour, Oahu, Hawaii last month. This is not an easy task to do as a civilian because you need permission from the base commander.
The show was performed on Sunday, March 25 - 1961 at 8.30 P.M. at the Bloch Arena in Pearl Harbor. There were 4000 tickets sold in the price range from $3 - $10, and an additional 100 tickets of $100 each were reserved for a special ringside section in the bloch arena. 50 of these tickets were bought by Elvis and The Colonel and donated to patients from the Tripler Hospital.Elvis' benefit concert raised over $65,000 for the USS Arizona memorial building fund. All proceeds went directly to the project, without anything held for expenses. Even Elvis and the Colonel had to buy a ticket to get into the show. This show created one of the biggest private donations to the memorial fund.

Elvis wore his gold lame jacket and black dress pants. This would be the last time Elvis would ever wear the gold lame jacket. The concert itself would become the last performance on stage till Elvis return on stage, almost 8 years later in Las Vegas in 1969.One week after Bernards visit to the arena, Lisa Marie Presley & her son, plus about 10 other people, also visited the arena, wanting to see where her Dad did the fund-raising concert for the USS Arizona Memorial.

As you probably know, there is NO OFFICIAL plaque commemorating this concert at Pearl Harbour, or the Bloch Arena. But Bernard has found out that Tom Hulet (Concerts West?) has agreed to donate a plaque & there is a place on the outer wall which has been discussed as a possible site, but the U.S. Naval Authorities are not keen on the idea of commemorating one of, if not the single biggest and generous private donation by Elvis Presley in helping to build the memorial.

There is however, a small "non-official" display in a corridor leading to the arena, due purely to the efforts of a fan who works near there, but a proper, "Official" plaque is needed.

Let's get Lisa Marie on board and get Elvis recognised for his part in honouring the many who lost their lives on December 7th 1941. Send your emails to Lisa Marie at lmpfanemail1@aol.com

Joel Hirschborn dies: Joel Hirschhorn, who shared two Academy Awards for theme songs in "The Poseidon Adventure" (1973) and "The Towering Inferno," (1975) has died. He was 67. Hirschhorn died Sunday of a heart attack at Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, his wife, documentary producer Jennifer Carter Hirschhorn, said Monday. He had broken his shoulder in a fall Friday night, she said.

Hirschhorn's songs sold more than 90 million records, were featured in 20 movies and were recorded by various artists. Elvis recorded his song "Your Time Hasn't Come Yet Baby" in 1967 for the movie soundtrack of "Speedway". Two years later, Hirschhorn and Kasha, who co-wrote the Elvis track, were nominated for a pair of Oscars for songs from the Disney animated film "Pete's Dragon." Hirschhorn and Kasha also received two Tony Award nominations. (News, Source: AP)

Elvis The Documentaries - upcoming Tunzi book release update: On 1 November 2005, J.A.T. Publishing will release "Elvis The Documentaries". Joseph Tunzi has put together a 136-page photo journal that will take you into Elvis Presley's two acclaimed documentaries, "That's The Way It Is", and Golden Globe winner "Elvis On Tour".

This project contains about 228 pictures, some memorabilia pages, documents related to these two movies, details on the studio sessions, rehearsals, live recordings and filmings of these two documentaries. The text part of the book is similar to "Sessions III" in its presentation and has been updated.

The layout of the book is different than previous books from J.A.T. Publishing. There are some additions to the book since it contains a nice unpublished publicity photograph from the movie "Change Of Habit". The section on the movie "That's The Way It Is" is about 64 pages and features photographs from all the rehearsals and all the shows up to August 14th, 1970 midnight show excepted for the August 13th, 1970 midnight show. This section of the book is completed with photographs of the first show of the September 1970 tour in Phoenix, AZ.

The "Elvis On Tour" section features as well numerous pictures taken during the filming of this project. There are shots from different locations such as Hampton Rds, VA. evening show, Richmond, VA, Indianapolis, IN, Greensboro, NC, Macon ,GA (both shows), Jacksonville, FL (both shows), San Antonio, TX, Albuquerque, NM and finally some from the August 4th, 1972 opening and August 5th, 1972 in Las Vegas. Elvis "Charro" Chapel mystery deepens: On 8 September we published a story that the chapel donated to Superstition Mountain Museum was not the chapel featured in Charro. We have now been contacted by Philip Rauso Jr. whose research is at odds with our earlier story. Philip says:

"My name is Philip Rauso, Jr. and I am a historian for the area of Apache Junction, particularly, Apacheland Movie Ranch and other movie making locations in the area. I read a recent posting on your website by a man named Tim Casara. He said that the church the Superstition Mountain Museum is looking to preserve is bogus and is not the same building from 1969 Elvis movie “Charro!”I have researched the building for the past 10 years and I can assure you that it is in fact the very same building that was in “Charro!” the movie. After the building was damaged by canon fire in the movie, the only way to save the building was to add certain features to it to cover up the damage. Photos on my site show the current building in the same position and location as the original building. Other photos show CLEARLY that it is exactly the same building right down to the fancy trim under the overhangs and the mountain bluffs and shrubbery in the background… they match identically.

I applaud the efforts of the Superstition Mountain Museum for saving this piece of Elvis history and am proud to have been a part of helping to raise funds for it. When the building is completed and moved to its new location in the near future, I hope to put my vast collection of “Charro!” artifacts, including his cement footprints, on display. I am also helping with efforts to building “The Arizona Cowboy Museum” in the same location that many desert scenes were filmed in “Charro!” and many other western movies and TV shows. I will also be putting up a “Charro!” display at this location and hope the two museums will compliment each other".

You can read more about these efforts on the museum website: http://www.ApachelandMuseum.com and contact Philip by email: info@ApachelandMuseum.com (News, Source: Philip Rauso, Jr.)

"All Shook Up" stumbles along but "Lennon" gone: More bad news for fans of the jukebox musical: "Lennon" will shut up shop on Sept. 24. Gotham criitics slaughtered the Yoko-approved tuner about the life and music of John Lennon, and audiences seemed to agree. The dismal attendance figures of the $7 million "Lennon" follow in the wake of "Good Vibrations," the Beach Boys musical that wiped out last season.

The Elvis offering currently on the boards, "All Shook Up," (see 15 & 18 September) continues to struggle at the box office, playing to 37% capacity last week. Next in the firing line: a bio of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, "Jersey Boys," opening Nov. 6 at the newly rechristened August Wilson. (News, Source: Variety)

Elvis performed on X Factor: Elvis Presley performed for the X Factor judges on Saturday night’s show.

But wasn’t the real king of rock and roll hoping to impress Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell and make it through to the finals of the ITV1 talent show. Instead the judges were forced to listen to the north of England’s own Elvis Presley – a man from Scomersdale who had changed his name to that of the legendry music star.

Sadly this Elvis left the building after receiving a unanimous “no” vote from the trio who decided the hopeful just didn’t live up to his name.

“I think you’re more Shakin’ Stevens than Elvis Presley,” Louis told Elvis after his audition.

“Hmm, I think you’re more Shufflin’ Stevens than Shakin’ Stevens,” added acid-tongued Simon.

Later in the show, Sharon came face to face with her own biggest fan. Londoner Erika declared her love for Mrs Osbourne before breaking into uncontrollable sobs.

“Oh, oh Sharon, can I hug you Sharon? Oh I love you, I meet you in the flesh, I love you so much,” the obsessed fan exclaimed.

Her adulation seemed to carry weight with Sharon, who voted to put Erika through to the X Factor finals despite both Simon and Louis berating her performance of the Gloria Gaynor hit “I Will Survive.”

Robbie Williams & Elvis: We found this on the Robbie Williams fan club site:

'Before a Robbie Williams gig the "inner circle" assembles, forms a ring and Robbie speaks :"Elvis, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference.Read here a little personal description of the person Elvis:The mocking corner of his mouth, a crookedly grin - half threat, half request - the sideburns, leather clothes, the chortle of the voice, the image of the wild: All boys wanted to be like him, all girls wanted to have him. Billy Idol took over the grin, Luke Perry made the sideburns to his trademark, the Fonz slipped over the leather jacked, The Clash copied an album cover and Elvis Costello even named himself after him.

Nobody before had in the thing of coolness as much gave the note as Elvis did. His appearances at the "Country Package Tours" in 1955 inspired lots of young musicians. Elvis is and continues to be an inspiration source for artist all around the world - Bruce Springsteen, Bono of U2 and Jim Morrison belong to them. And John Lennon once said: "Before Elvis there was nothing". The live-Shows of Elvis have inspired scores of musicians. You think only of Ricky Martins performance at the Grammy’s 1999, of Mick Jagger, when he struts across the stage or of Michael Jackson’s way to dance, when he skips on the tip of his toe and press the basin forward.

Elvis is all-pervasive. His style, his gestures, his expression. His way to sing and his looks constitute a part of the success, but it was his stage show, that made the girls go wild like nothing before. Until the censorship intervened and the TV cameras only more showed the upper part of his body. It started at his first bigger show on 30th July 1954 in Overton Park on Memphis: Elvis began to shake his leg during the singing. When he realised, which effect he had with it on his audience, he improved it at the following gigs. He moved his hips lascivious, sang on bended knee, enhanced his gestures and installed over and over again something new into his shows – among other things karate movements. His show is still today the example for countless rock musicians and for the never ending line of impersonators'.

Producer blamed for failure of musical "All Shook Up": A pair of big investors in "All Shook Up," starring Cheyenne Jackson, could've used a hunk, a hunk of burnin' love from the lead producer.

'I Got Stung" never made its way into the Elvis Presley musical "All Shook Up." But it's the perfect song for backers of a show that had enormous potential but, because of mismanagement, behind-the-scenes feuds and an arrogant and inexperienced lead producer, has turned out to be one of last season's costliest flops.

One person involved in the production calls "All Shook Up," which will likely lose more than $10 million, "a massive missed opportunity." Two principal investors - Miramax Films and Clear Channel Entertainment - are so disgusted with the way things have been run by Jonathan Pollard, the lead producer, that they've withdrawn from the production. The two companies have written off the money they've already sunk into the show and are refusing to put up any more. "We're gone," says a source at one of the companies. "The thing is a disaster."

While other shows posted recorded numbers at the box office this summer, "All Shook Up" barely held its head above water. It's expected to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars in the next month. The picture wasn't always so bleak for "All Shook Up." While in development last year, it generated good word of mouth. "People were lining up to give us money," says a production source. "It was fresh and exciting and fun." It was also Pollard's first Broadway show.

Having made a fortune as the producer of the long-running off-Broadway revue, "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change," he was ready to enter the big time. He was so sure of the success of "All Shook Up" - and of his own producing skills - that he told potential investors, "If you want to be in this game, you are going to have to follow my guidelines." The only problem was, Pollard (who refused to comment for this column) really didn't know what he was doing. The show's budget ballooned during its out-of-town tryout in Chicago last winter as Pollard butted heads with the creative team. He also fought bitterly with Miramax founder Harvey Weinstein, who, sources say, had good ideas on how to improve and market the show.

"The problem with Jonathan is that unless it's his idea, he won't listen to it," a person involved in the show says. Pollard tried to market "All Shook Up," a $10 million Broadway musical, the same way he marketed "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change," which was produced on a shoestring. He resisted spending money on television ads in the spring - a key time, since so much attention is focused on the Tony Awards - preferring instead to pass out flyers and CDs at the half-price ticket booth. "Flyers and CDs are not going to change your fate," says a production source.

He eventually shot a TV commercial but waited too long to air it, many of his investors believe. Says one, "We got a lot of good reviews, but he never capitalized on them." His arrogance also alienated many people.

"He would sit there at marketing meetings in front of a hundred people and pontificate for hours," says a person who attended the meetings. "He produced a little off-Broadway show, and he thought he was Cameron Mackintosh."

The mood backstage at "All Shook Up" these days is grim. The cast shows up for work every day expecting a closing notice. But Pollard is vowing to keep the show open at least until the end of the year and has raised some additional money from new investors. As wise men say, only fools rush in. Bill Bryson, American Author, confirms that Elvis IS within us all! In his new book 'A Short History Of Nearly Everything', American author Bill Bryson confirms what we have all hoped for- That Elvis will eventually be within us all, if not quite yet! He writes.. "A sugar cube will contain 45 billion billion molecules. Atoms, in short, are very abundant. They are also fantastically durable. Because they are so long-lived, atoms really get around. Every atom you possess has almost certainly passed through several stars and been part of millions of organisms on its way to becoming you. We are each so atomically numerous and so vigorously recycled at death that a significant number of our atoms - up to a billion for each of us, it has been suggested - probably once belonged to Shakespeare. A billion more each came from Buddha and Genghis Khan and Beethoven, and any other historical figure you care to name. The personages have to be historical, apparently, as it takes the atoms some decades to become thoroughly redistributed; however much you may wish it, you are not yet one with Elvis Presley. So we are all reincarnations - though short-lived ones."(News, Source: EIN, Rod Cramp)

How Elvis helped set "hostage" Douglas Wood's spirit free: During the 47 days Douglas Wood was bashed, handcuffed and blindfolded in Iraq, he kept his spirits up by humming Elvis Presley's I Want To Be Free.

Now the song's writer, Mike Stoller, says it was the "most important use of that song ever", and Mr Wood says he will close his speaking engagements with a rendition. Mr Wood said the Kris Kristofferson song Me and Bobby McGee, popularised by Janis Joplin, had been his first choice, but did not fit the situation. "When I was in the hell-hole, I hummed it," he said, recounting the song's famous line: freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose.

Speaking from Los Angeles, Mr Wood said he received "much more inspiration" from the Elvis song after considering his predicament. The song, off the 1957 Jailhouse Rock EP, speaks of a man sitting alone in a dark room:

There's no joy in my heart, only sorrow / And I'm sad as a man can be
And this room is a prison to me / I look at window and what do I see
I see a bird way up in the tree / I want to be free

It came from the pens of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, whose work stands alongside that of Lennon and McCartney as among the most significant composers of popular music since World War II.

On his release, Mr Wood discussed with his cousin Ian Allen how he had used the song to keep his spirits up. His Seaford-based cousin sent a letter to Stoller, expressing appreciation for the motivation and support the song provided during Mr Wood's ordeal — in which he was bashed, robbed, handcuffed, and witnessed other hostages being murdered.

Stoller read about Mr Wood's ordeal in newspapers, and said he was "touched and honoured" by the gesture. Mr Wood will appear at a sold-out event at Shepparton United Football Club, Shepparton, on September 16, and confirmed that he would end his speech with a rendition. "When The Beatles Met Elvis" audiobook: Set for release on September 26, 2005 is the 3CD audio book "When The Beatles Met Elvis" by Chris Hutchins and Peter Thompson. This audiobook has a running time of four hours.

Synopsis: The Untold Story Of Their Entangles Lives. No one laughed more loudly than the King himself when the Beatles' manager, Brian Epstein, boasted 'My boys are going to be bigger than Elvis Presley'. It was the early sixties, and Presley, a living legend, appeared unassailable. Yet, in 1964, John, Paul, George and Ringo suddenly topped the American charts - and Beatlemania rolled the King in the greatest rock coup of all time.

Chris Hutchins, then a music journalist in his early twenties, was at the eye of the hurricane as the Beatles swept all before them. No other writer grew as close to the Fab Four from Liverpool as they conquered the world.

As America turned on to the Beatles in a big way during their 1965 tour, Chris Hutchins used his extensive network of connections to mastermind the greatest rock summit meeting ever: a one-and-only rendezvous between the King and the pretenders who were seizing his throne.

With co-author Peter Thompson, Hutchins draws on his own exclusive sources and unpublished personal archives, as well as FBI files and explosive dossiers from the District Attorney's investigators in Memphis, to probe into the greatest rock story never told - one in which the lives of Elvis Presley and the Beatles became dramatically entwined. They reveal the passions and the powerplay, the corruption and the conspiracies, the vendettas and the vanity behind pop-culture's greatest phenomena.

No book has ever penetrated so deeply into the secret worlds of Elvis and the Beatles. This is the graphic, firsthand account of the ambition, lust and greed that drove the most gilded icons in pop history to the very peak of the mountain. And of the dark and dangerous forces that destroyed them.
EIN note: The authors have previously released the books "Elvis meets the Beatles" and 'Elvis & Lennon". (News, Source: Elvis Club Berlin /Elvis News)

Winkler - who produced 1966 Elvis movie DOUBLE TROUBLE - gushes, "He's the most innovative, exciting performer today. I thought nobody had the star potential that Elvis Presley had, but Robbie certainly does.
"I just told him, 'Do what you want' and he was great. He had great charisma and all those tattoos are covered by his tuxedo so he can transform himself. He's a really attractive guy. And as far as acting is concerned, he's really got it. He is a real personality, make no mistake." (News, Source: Contact Music)

Fan club president proposes Elvis tribute album to aid Hurricane Katrina victims: Pete Smith in Canada sent us this great idea by Barb Thomas from the "For The Heart" fan club in Chicago - "Hi, Y'all, I think it would be great if Graceland would create a Tribute Album dedicated to the victims and their families of the Katrina disaster.  It is so horrific to try to just imagine what those poor people are going through.  I keep thinking about what Elvis might do for his home state of Tennessee and the other states that were hit by this terrible, terrible disaster.  I think Elvis would love the idea of creating an album of songs from the movie "King Creole" shot in New Orleans....and perhaps include some gospel songs, like "Amazing Grace" or "How Great Thou Art".  He had stated many times he thought his best performance was in King Creole.  So here are the songs that I suggest be included and would be appropriate on a Special Tribute CD:

1)    King Creole
2)    Crawfish
3)    New Orleans
4)    Dixieland Rock
5)    The Trilogy
6)    Amazing Grace (or) How Great Thou Art (as the end song)(Optional)

Further, I am recommending that Lisa Marie and Priscilla have a special message to the victims of this tragedy on the back of the album and that the proceeds for this album be given to The American Red Cross (or whatever organization Graceland chooses) for disaster relief for all those people who have lost their loved ones, families, homes, treasured items from their homes and jobs.  Their very existence is left up to us to help them". Fans can contact Barb by telephone on Home: (312) 988-9588/Cell:  (740) 504-8865. Fans can also get behind Barb's idea and contact EPE by clicking on the email addresses: media@elvis.com  and fan_relations@elvis.com (News, Source: Pete Smith)
Elvis's granddaughter in Dior Campaign: Riley Keough grand daughter of Elvis Presley looks stunning in her latest advertising campaign for Christian Dior. The 16 year old was photographed by Pirelli calendar photographer Nick Knight, styled by Cate Blanchett's stylist and directed by Dior designer John Galliano. She wore a beautifully cut pale blue jacket accessorised with a denim mini and handbag.

Galliano is delighted with the campaign and said;" I felt Riley represented the youthfulness of the jacket and decided to do a few pictures with her people would associate the personality in it. Keough has previously modelled for Italian fashion house Dolce and Gabbana. Her mother Lisa Marie Presley supports her career but once said" She has big plans- she is making me a nervous wreck. She wants to make her own money, which I totally respect but she is still my baby." (News, Source: FemaleFirst.co.uk)

Elvis is: I am an Elvis fan and have been since 1954. I was a pretty bad banjo player back then, with a resonating tin ear, but I sure liked to whack that old instrument. I would take the bus down to Robinson Auditorium every Saturday night to the Barnyard Frolics. I didn't play for any group, but just stood around waiting for them to ask me to accompany someone with my clanging. If they requested your services, it meant $5 in your pocket. There was always a final song and they would let me whack a few chords in the finale.

A young man from Memphis had some hits out I was bonkers about: "Blue Moon of Kentucky," "Heartbreak Hotel" and "That's All Right, Mama." I was also into R & B, but would not have let any of the country performers know. It was evident that "Heartbreak Hotel" and "That's All Right Mama" were Elvis' versions of songs recorded by black artists from River City - just up tempo and with more enthusiasm, like his later "(You Ain't Nothin' But a) Hound Dog" done by blues giant Bessie Smith in the 1940s. There is really only one version of "Blue Moon of Kentucky," and that is by Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys in blue grass; but Elvis did it his way and made us like it.

Elvis was a regular on "Louisiana Hayride" and one night talk was that he was coming to perform at the Frolics. There was no middle ground: The younger folks were giddy with delight, the old timers were less than enthusiastic. Didn't matter because he didn't come and it was the next year that I had to shell out five smokes to catch Elvis in the auditorium. Why folks were even ... shudder ... dancing in the aisles until the cops put a squeeze on such behavior.

There is one thing I cannot forgive Elvis for, however: He just about killed country music as we knew it. He had such an impact on country audiences that alarm bells began to go off all over Nashville. The result was that guitar virtuoso and director of talent at RCA Victor records, Chet Atkins, had to do something and do it fast; the result came to be known as the Nashville Sound. It was wildly popular with young folks, I just never got into it. No more Eddie Arnold, Cowboy Copas, Jimmy Rogers, Little Jimmy Dickens, Flatt and Scruggs, Patsy Montana, Bob Wills and other greats. Why Bob Wills was promoted to icon and his music taken over by a group known as Asleep at The Wheel. Elvis, old pard, I love you anyway. (News, Source: Ron Meyer, Benton Courier)

Sillerman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CKX, Inc. announced today. Sillerman made the first CKX donation, $100,000, and a total of more than $300,000 has already been collected. All donations will be made to the American Red Cross.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims of this tragic and horrific hurricane," Sillerman said. We at CKX are proud of our employees' swift and generous response to this crisis." Images of The King 2005 winner: Mario Kombou has been hailed the "King" after being named as the top Elvis impersonator - on the planet. An amazing year for the Muswell Hill musician was topped off in Memphis this month when he clinched first prize in the contest which attracted hundreds competitors from across the globe. Mario, of Avenue Road, Muswell Hill, said: "It has been a great year for me, it really stands alone by itself, and winning this contest has just capped it really.

"I have entered it five times before. Last year I came second, and now I have been indicted into the King's Hall of Fame. It was a fantastic atmosphere in Memphis. You have to be there to believe it."

He charmed the judges with his versions on Burning Love, Can't Stop Loving You and Just Pretend - and got so enthusiastic he even split one of his jewel-encrusted figure hugging costumes on stage. Mario has just finished his lead role in the West End musical Jailhouse Rock, an experience he found both stimulating and exhausting. He added: "It was such an honour to be involved in the show.

"We were doing eight shows a week and it was physically and mentally exhausting but so, so rewarding."

A trained actor, Mario is looking to get other stage and film roles in the near future. But he said the King would never die.

"It speaks volume that 28 years after he died, there is still massive interest in this man," he said. "Elvis was the full package and was the first to offer the real rock'n'roll deal. I will still always love to perform Elvis - there will always be life in Elvis and I will always want to share that." (News, Source: nlnews/Sanja Meegin)

‘It’s Over’ - Gordon Minto sums up the recent 18 UK No.1s campaign: Elvis’ 18 UK #1s box-set is due to be released in October in Australia. In this fascinating article, Gordon Minto questions whether this Elvis singles campaign was clever marketing or bad exploitation, and suggests that it actually hurt Elvis’ image, while at the same time adding yet more number 1’s to his achievements. Elvis’ swivel hips never appeared on Sullivan’s show: On Sept. 9, 1956, America’s cultural paradigm shifted. Elvis Presley made his first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. It was a clash of customs and a war between the forces of good and evil. Presley, representing evil, won handily. To begin at the beginning, in 1956 the Elvis phenomenon was starting to spread nationally. Records such as “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Hound Dog,” and “Heartbreak Hotel” were climbing not only the popular charts but the country-music and rhythm-and-blues charts as well, which had never happened before. Elvis was hot, but he was also controversial. With his perpetual sneer, his guitar slung low and suggestively, and hips that swiveled and gyrated when he performed live, he was as feared and loathed by parents as he was worshipped by their children. “Elvis the Pelvis,” who in reality was a mild-mannered momma’s boy, became the symbol of teenage rebellion and sexuality.

Ed Sullivan, a stone-faced former gossip columnist, had somehow come to host the most popular variety show on television, The Ed Sullivan Show. Utterly humorless, but with a voice and onstage manner that were grist for countless stand-up comics, Sullivan ran his show like a tyrant, and as a self-proclaimed guardian of public morality, he would book only entertainers whose wholesomeness was beyond question. Which is why he publicly proclaimed that Elvis would never appear on his show. He would eat those words. Immediately, Sullivan’s main competitor, which in 1956 was a variety show hosted by the comic Steve Allen, booked Presley for an appearance. Although Allen had no qualms about having Presley on his show, he did try to tone the singer down, dressing him in a tuxedo and casting him in the show’s comedy sketches.

As an attempt to “split the difference” it was an abject failure — Elvis fans hated the show — but as a ratings getter it was a huge success. For the first time ever, Allen’s show drew more viewers than Sullivan’s. Sullivan was not amused. Fighting for decency was one thing. Losing viewers, advertisers and your No. 1 rating was another. Sullivan’s agents quickly booked Elvis for a three-show gig at an unheard of $50,000. This small but significant battle in the Kulturkampf had come to an end. Elvis had won. But Sullivan still had one shot to fire. He ordered his cameramen to shoot Elvis only from the waist up, meaning the television audience never saw the singer’s gyrating hips and pelvis thrusts. It was Sullivan’s way of “splitting the difference,” and although it was cleverer than Steve Allen’s, in the end it was little more than a parting shot. The “King” as Elvis was soon known, became more popular than ever. (News, Source: cantonrep.com)

Elvis On Tour Outtakes DVD confusion: With the various EOT DVDs now being offered for sale, Steve M's posting on the FECC messageboard appears to shed some much needed light on this confusing issue.

"Perhaps I should believe it, but I struggle to do so at the best of times. I have been informed that clips are being used to sell the EOT out takes and as such are being touted as examples of what is on the DVD's being offered for sale. Unfortunatley these clips are ones that I made and do not represent what is on the DVD at all. On the clips I made I had enhanced the footage, I had put a multi angle synchronised montage in from 2 to 4 angles depending on the clip and had used alternate sound as a source where they were available and superior to that on the footage. Whilst they are no longer available to view via the links I originally had in my signature some have kept the clip and used it to advertise their copy of the out takes and are claiming that the clips represent the quality and content of what they are selling.

THEY DO NOT! It may also be the case that because I have a limited presence on the internet with this and just a few other sites, that other language forums and sites are using the log in name of "Steve_M" or "Steve Moore" and are passing themselves off as being me who is selling this footage and claiming that the content I have is the same on the DVD as the clips "I" am showing.

It IS NOT ME! If anyone is in any doubt then please PM me here if you should find yourself considering buying something you're never going to recieve from someone claiming or portraying themselves as me. As with all requests on here from PM's I do not have the DVD's available for money trade bribes or otherwise. Post the pics of me and the donkey - I don't care. Seriously though, please pay attention to the above, don't get conned". (News, Source; FECC mesageboard)

Elvis to return to Vegas!: A half-century after his Las Vegas debut, Elvis is returning to the Strip in a big way. New York businessman Robert F.X. Sillerman, who purchased the business side of the Elvis Presley estate, has an Elvis project planned on Las Vegas Boulevard that will stretch from the Harley-Davidson Cafe to Smith & Wollensky's.

During a Friday interview at his oceanside compound in the Hamptons, Sillerman told me that he and his partners have a major entertainment element planned for the project, which, he reminded me, will go up across the Strip from the MGM Mirage's $6 billion City Center project.

He compared the location to owning property at Times Square in New York City. Remember the name. Sillerman, who sold his SFX Entertainment company to Clear Channel for $4.5 billion and is one of the producers of the Broadway hit "The Producers," has been a major player in the
entertainment industry and has big plans for Elvis. "When we bought Elvis Presley Enterprises, we said the world is under-Elvised," Sillerman said. (News/Sale of EPE, Source: Elvis Unlimited)

Elvis' "cement footprints" from Charro too heavy for eBay sale: Philip Rauso has advised EIN of the reason for his ending this sale (for earlier story see 1 September): "I withdrew the auction because of the shipping costs. The total weight of the footprints alone was over 250lbs and the couriers could not guarantee me or the purchaser that they would arrive in one piece. I had lots of people from Japan and the UK interested but the shipping is what caused me to pull auction. Prices for freight shipping could cost over $4,000 with insurance but there is no way to replace the items if they were damaged." (News, Source: Philip Rauso)

Canadian Idol Elvis tribute brings high TV rating: It's been one high note after another for rising star Aaron Walpole, who this week cracked the Top 3 on Canadian Idol, the nationally televised hit singing contest. It means he's one of three with a shot at becoming the next Canadian Idol. Walpole earned enough of the record 3.6 million votes cast this week to stay at least another week. The five-foot-nine, 300-pounder is set to compete again next week when the final three Idol competitors will sing songs by The Barenaked Ladies, one of Walpole's favourite groups. A season-high 2.54 million viewers watched this week's tribute to the music of Elvis Presley. The new Canadian Idol -- Kalan Porter won last year -- will be crowned in a two-hour finale Sept. 14. "Elvis On Tour Outtakes" legal action?: We found this interesting post from Luuk on the alt.elvis.king board: "Anybody offering these outtakes for sale is violating rights of the copyright owners. Rumour has it there are going to be a lot of arrests soon, including high
profile people in the Elvis fan world, as Turner/MGM is quite p*ssed off. I am still looking for these DVD's myself. It would not surprise me if in a couple of weeks or months they will be for sale in nice digipacks for euro 20,00 at the usual addresses. 1956 TV show appearances, film-song compilations and previously unreleased audience filmed live shows are already available as well as "Elvis in concert" complete with outtakes". "Cooking With Elvis" on tour in UK: Hull Truck tonight kicks off its autumn/winter season – which includes Lee Hall’s Cooking with Elvis, with a run at Hull before and after a regional tour. The 1999 black comedy, written by Billy Elliot’s Lee Hall, revolves around a cooking-mad teenage girl, her promiscuous mother and her paralysed Elvis impersonator father. In 2000, Cooking with Elvis had a successful run at the West End’s Whitehall Theatre, where it starred comedian Frank Skinner. The play was first seen at Hull Truck in 2003. Directed by associate artistic director Gareth Tudor Price, the play runs at Hull from 1 to 10 September 2005 and then again from 21 November to 10 December. In between, it visits Loughborough, Buxton, Huddersfield, Winchester, Scunthorpe, Kendal, Worcester, Poole, Liverpool and, from 24 to 29 September, London’s Hackney Empire. For over 2 hours, in the final show of his tour, the audience was treated to a plethora of Elvis hits from all different eras along with a visually dazzling performance.  (Almost Elvis: Source EIN)

"Desert Storm: The Shattering Of A Myth" released: Darren Lee's controversial book, Elvis Presley: The Shattering Of A Myth!, was recently released in softcover format. The book's narrative impact is essentially driven from a threshold question: was Elvis relaxed, tanned and fit after a holiday in Hawaii, or on a downward spiral fuelled by pills and negative thoughts? EIN previously published a detailed review of the book when it was released as an E-Book. We re-publish that review ahead of our detailed review of the new, softcover edition. Hurricane Katrina affects Elvis world identity: Elvis author Sandi Pichon (Raised on Elvis! Elvis! Elvis!), as far as we can determine, still has not been able to get back to her home in Slidell, La., a New Orleans suburb.  She was visiting Elvis fan/friend Phyl Gordon in Virginia when Katrina hit. Elvis artist daughter loses "Elvis" costumes in hurricane: Betty Harper's daughter, Loretta, is living in New Orleans and working in the movie industry.  Loretta was on location in Baton Rouge; returned to clear out her apartment the weekend Katrina hit; saw what was coming; took what she could and left.  Lost most everything, including several notable costumes from movies she has been involved in, including the recent Elvis mini-series last May on CBS-TV. "Spring Fever" comes to CD: The CD-R label Unicorn will release their first real CD with the title "Spring Fever". The CD is released in memory of Elvis' death 28 years ago on August 16, 1977. This is a completely unreleased show that was recorded on May 22, 1974 (midnight) at the Sahara Tahoe Hotel in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. This is a digitally remastered audience recording taken from the master tape. The running time is 77:18 minutes.

From the press release: Elvis does an excellent performance in this show as he does some powerful tunes such as "Trying To Get To You", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "The Wonder Of You", "I Can't Stop Loving You" and a very rare song performed in 1974 which Elvis did in this show is "My Way" (actually it is the ONLY KNOWN version of this song that comes from 1974). Unfortunately the show was incomplete as it's missing "Can't Help Falling In Love". Unicorn added this closing number from the May 21st, 1974 Midnight Show (unheard before, too) to make it a complete concert feeling. Also "Help Me" was slightly damaged on the master tape so producers added this song as one of the bonus tracks from the May 21st, 1974 as well.

Track listing: 01. Instrumental Intro / Also Sprach Zarathustra (A 2001 Space Odyssey Theme); 02. C. C. Rider; 03. I Got A Woman / Amen (medley); 04. Love Me; 05. Trying To Get To You; 06. All Shook Up; 07. Love Me Tender; 08. You Don't Have To Say You Love Me; 09. Hound Dog; 10. Fever; 11. Polk Salad Annie; 12. Why Me Lord; 13. Suspicious Minds; 14. Band Introductions; 15. I Can't Stop Loving You (with last part reprise); 16. Help Me(incomplete); 17. Bridge Over Troubed Water; 18. Let Me Be There;19. The Wonder Of You; 20. Big Boss Man (with last part reprise); 21. My Way; 22. Can't Help Falling In Love (21.05.1974 MS); 23. Closing Vamp (21.05.1974 MS)

Bonus tracks (Lake Tahoe, May 21, 1974 Midnight show):

24. You Don't Have To Say You Love Me; 25. Help Me; 26. Bridge Over Troubled Water; 27. The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (News, Source: Elvis News)

Man "possessed by soul of Elvis" takes his life: A 35-year-old man who believed he was possessed by the soul of Elvis Presley was found hanging from a tree in woods near his home, an inquest heard. Paul Box, of King George Road, Chatham, died on May 12, by hanging himself from a scarf in the woods off Campion Close behind the Bridgewood Manor Hotel. Mr Box, who was unemployed and single, was discovered by a woman walking her dog. Just hours before he was found he had seen his probation officer Adam Crocker following an appearance at Medway magistrates' court.

Mr Crocker told the Gillingham inquest on Wednesday that he had been seen by a psychiatrist for mental health problems but on that morning he was calm and showing no signs of stress or anxiety. Mr Crocker added: “He believed he was possessed by the soul of Elvis Presley and that his aura descended on him in the evenings and that he experienced him through singing and dancing. “He had approached the Press in the past but nobody was interested. He also spent part of his time living rough.”

Coroner Roger Sykes, recording a verdict of suicide, heard that Mr Box would have needed to clamber up a tree in order to tie the scarf to hang himself. A post mortem examination revealed he had low levels of alcohol, cannabis and amphetamine but not enough to significantly affect his thoughts. Mr Sykes said: “His manner was calm and composed on the day but in the past I have been told his chosen method of dying would be hanging. He took his own life while suffering an undiagnosed form of mental illness. He was a man who had real problems in dealing with normal life.” (News/Odd Spot, Source: Sanja Meegin)

Elvis' "cement footprints" found : The cement slab that was stepped in by the King during the filming of "Charro!" has been found. The slab reads: "Elvis Presley (signed) - JESSE (played Jesse Wade) - July 7, 1968.

The cement slab has been stored in a secure vault. This is understood to be the only known cement footprint ever cast by Elvis and is a central part of the history of Apacheland where Charro! and other movies were filmed.

Many actors and actresses cast their hand prints and footprints at the historic Apacheland Studio back in the 1960's but when Apacheland closed it's doors to the public in the late 1970's many of the valuable artifacts were sold, or lost and became part of personal collections in past.

By the time Apacheland opened it's doors again in 1994 not much was left to remind people of the famous actors and actresses that walked the dusty streets. For more info visit: www.ArizonaCowboyMuseum.com

Canadian Idols massacre Elvis hits: The final four Canadian Idol contestants each took on two songs by the king of rock 'n' roll Tuesday night, but by the end of the evening it was clear that few of them deserve to be heir to the throne. It was the third straight week of the competition that focused on rock music — we've already seen the pop protégées attempt classic rock and Burton Cummings to mixed results — but most of the Idol hopefuls had trouble translating Elvis Presley's dated, bluesy material into something contemporary. At least they got a free trip to Sun Studio in Memphis, where Presley once recorded.

Following an all-too-brief video bio on Presley (which was also all-too-happy to skip the part about the depression and the drug abuse), big teddy bear Aaron Walpole performed the appropriate "Teddy Bear," a peppy doo-wop number that would sound great on a chewing gum commercial. It was a bit too obvious a selection for the show tune-lovin' guy from St. Thomas, but judge Sass Jordan was pleased with it. "You're starting to make a fabulous name for big men everywhere!" she gushed. Then rocker Suzi Rawn dished out a strong, but slurred working of "Heartbreak Hotel," breaking a lot of hearts in the process as she sexily breathed the line, "I get so lonely."

"You sing that like you had heartbreak," judge Jake Gold remarked in approval. Compadre Zack Werner felt differently. "It looks like you could use a good night's sleep," Werner told Rawn. Melissa O'Neil was a bit unstable with the low part of her vocals during "A Little Less Conversation" (the recent Junkie XL dance version), but she stepped it up by the second verse with her louder register. Judges, again, were unimpressed. "You energized the room at least," Farley Flex offered. "I found it really screechy," Gold said. Hat-boy Rex Goudie traded his lucky white hat for his blue suede Adidas during a pretty good "Blue Suede Shoes." Like Elvis, Goudie's best asset is his pelvis, I mean, charisma; it's definitely not his stiff dancing. "You're like Elvis Pretzel," Farley said.

The second half of the show was dedicated to Presley ballads and Walpole stared straight into the cameras for his soft and composed "Love Me Tender." The super saccharine delivery irked Werner. "I think some people just tuning in are gonna think this is The Dairy Network," he said. "All cheese all the time."

Rawn was wobbly on "Can't Help Falling In Love," taking liberty with the melody and introducing a never-before-heard yodel. Jordan called the vocal "iffy," but Gold liked Rawn's unusually low-key performance. "Tonight is the first I've seen you vulnerable and it moved me," Gold admitted. Then O'Neil recomposed herself for the soaring gospel song, "You'll Never Walk Alone," which should convince viewers of her Idol-worthy big voice. "That was simple, that was sweet and that was stunning," Jordan praised.

Finally, Goudie proved that although he excels in rock, ballads are tricky for him, and the singer struggled with the rhythm on "If I Can Dream." "I thought that was blue, but I really like you," Jordan said as sweetly as possible, while Werner proclaimed that on this night, four Canadians "massacred" the Presley catalog. Another celebrity visitor at Graceland: Actress/singer Jada Pinkett Smith toured Graceland with her children earlier this week. Travel plans for further south for her and husband actor/singer Will Smith and their family were thwarted by Hurricane Katrina, thus the Smiths' extended stay in Memphis and the opportunity to visit Graceland. Mr. Smith (alias The Fresh Prince of Bel Air) did not join his wife and family for the Graceland outing. (News, Source: EPE)

Lilo & Stitch 2 now out: Lilo & Stitch II - Stitch Has A Glitch, the straight-to-DVD follow-up to Disney's hit 2002 film Lilo & Stitch, has just been released. As with the first film, Lilo shares her love for Elvis with Stitch, her extraterrestrial friend. Elvis recordings featured on the new film's soundtrack are Rubberneckin', A Little Less Conversation (JXL Remix) and I Need Your Love Tonight. Elvis-inspired chapter titles are Inspiration From The King and A Little More Action. (News, Source: EPE)

Elvis Museum & Gift Shop opens its doors in Pigeon Forge: Lynn McAllister, owner of the Elvis Museum and Gift Shops, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony recently for the reopening of the museum. Attending were Kay Powell with the Pigeon Forge Department of Tourism; Charlie Hodge, friend, vocalist and musician of Elvis Presley; Mrs. McAllister's father, Mike L. Moon, founder and curator of the Elvis Museum and once owner of Elvis' back-up gospel group, The Stamps Quartet; Dee Gallon, owner of Memories Theater; and others.

Lynn McAllister and her family, now full-time residents of Sevier County, "accepted the challenge of revitalizing the museum and gift shops with a passion," said Moon. "We are grateful for all of her efforts and look forward to future plans she and her family have in store." Those who attended joined the McAllister family for a dinner and award ceremony at the Smoky Mountain Convention Center. McAllister presented several plaques in appreciation and thanked those who have assisted in the project.

A special musical jam session concluded the festivities with special guest musicians and vocalists paying tribute to Presley's gospel heritage. The Elvis Museum and Gift Shops has what it calls the world's largest private collection of authentic collectibles, displays and memorabilia. It is located at 2638 Parkway.
