Anthony Stuchbury 'From Elvis At Sun' Interview: There are two new 'Mono II Stereo' releases about to come out from the Memphis Mansion label.
'From Elvis At Sun' features all of Elvis' SUN masters in new stereo versions while the 10" vinyl 'Best Of Elvis' is a neat stereo upgrade of the original HMV october 1957 UK album.
The question of whether Elvis' mono fifties classic recordings should be re-released in "new stereo" is hotly debated among hard-core collectors and so EIN wanted to ask Memphis Mansion's producer / audio engineer Anthony Stuchbury some key questions.
Questions including...
- Do we really need stereo versions of these mono classics?
- Since EMI are officially releasing The Beatles in "new stereo" perhaps it is time for RCA / SONY to do the same for Elvis..

'Jay Thompson and Elvis Presley' Interview: In April 1956 Disc-jockey Jay Thompson, from Breckenridge radio station KSTB, interviewed a young Elvis Presley while he was touring through Texas on a string of one-night stands. In that 1956 interview Elvis interestingly revealed that he was previously training to be an electrician, that his first movie would be The Rainmaker and that he did not know Bill Black or Scotty Moore before their Sun session.

In 1982 Elvis fan Scott Wheeler befriended and interviewed Jay Thompson about the experience. Although Jay never actively participated in Elvis-related events or productions in later years he also never sought notoriety for the interview either. However we believe it's important that Jay Thompson be well remembered for his valuable contribution to the history of Elvis.

Loanne Parker (RIP) interview: Back in 2004 Loanne Parker was interviewed for ETA radio where she spent a lengthy time discussing life, Elvis and the Colonel.
Loanne Parker was Col Parker's second wife. She was working as an RCA Records tour secretary a job she held until Elvis' death. She married Col Parker in 1990 but their relationship went back to 1970.

Loanne, Col Parker's widow died Sunday May 10, in Las Vegas.

She has often defended the regular negative comments made against Col Parker including the fact that his manager stopped Elvis travelling overseas, that Parker worked Elvis to death and also denied that Parker had any gambling debts..

Sept 4 - Ed Bonja Photographer / Tour Manager has died: EIN has heard the sad news that Elvis' photographer Ed Bonja died in Berlin last night, aged 74. EIN's good friends Joan & Paul Gansky noted..

... Our dear friend and Elvis Photographer/tour manager Ed Bonja has joined Elvis and so many of his friends, co-stars, musicians, backup singers and others in Heaven. Leukemia and other medical complications brought his life to a close on September 4th, 2019. He was 74. Rest in peace Ed, our special friend.

Our precious memories are too numerous to mention here, but we will always remember him as a gentle soul who went through life seeing good in everyone that crossed his path. - Paul & Joan Gansky

EIN founding President, Nigel Patterson, interviewed by Pop Music Research Blog Spot: EIN recently interviewed Dr Mark Duffett and reviewed his excellent book, Counting Down Elvis His 100 Finest Songs.

Dave Hebler Interview with EIN: Dave Hebler is best known to Elvis Presley fans as being part of the Memphis Mafia and Elvis’ bodyguard in the mid-seventies. As an integral part of Elvis’ personal and professional life, Hebler’s primary responsibility was the personal safety of Elvis at home as well as at recording sessions, personal appearances, concert tours and various recreations.
He is also known as a contributor along with Red and Sonny West to the 1977 book ‘Elvis: What Happened’.

Joe Esposito EIN Interview: Joe Esposito (RIP) is best known as a key member of the "Memphis Mafia' and one of Elvis' closest friends. Joe met Elvis in 1958 when they were both in the army. They met in Germany and formed a friendship over playing games of football and taking trips to Paris. Before leaving the service Elvis asked Joe to work for him, from then on their friendship would last almost two decades with Esposito's main role being road-manager.

In 2001 EIN's Nigel Patterson met up with Joe Esposito in Canberra. He had agreed to give us 15 minutes of his time, but ended up talking for over an hour. This interview was featured in our EIN Fan Club newsletter but not on-line.

(Interview) Bill "Superfoot" Wallace talks to EIN: Bill was full contact Professional Karate Association (PKA) Middleweight Champion from 1974 to 1980. He appeared in numerous films and continues to tour the world presenting seminars on the martial arts.
Bill became good friends with Elvis and the Memphis Mafia, training with him and hanging out at Graceland. In a wide ranging interview, Bill recently talked with EIN’s Nigel Patterson about his life, Elvis, martial arts and some of his friends including Red West, Ed Parker, Chuck Norris and Jackie Chan.

Trevor Simpson talks "Elvis: His Songs of Praise": Out later this month is the first of two volumes titled "Elvis: His Songs of Praise" from author Trevor Simpson.
The two volumes will combine to over 700 pages chronicling the 100 sacred, spiritual and inspirational gospel songs sung by Elvis. Volume 1 promises over 350 pages with lavishly illustrated high-quality images, many unseen photographs and graphics as well as a 30-track special bonus CD.

EIN Joyce Bova Interview: Joyce Bova worked in Washington DC and had a fascinating relationship with Elvis that lasted between 1969 and 1972. The story of which she wrote about in her 1994 book, 'Don't Ask Forever: My Love Affair With Elvis' has recently been re-published as an updated E-Book.
Bova was a Capitol Hill staffer on the House Armed Services Committee when she first met Elvis in 1969 in Las Vegas during her vacation.
'Don't Ask Forever' is the intimate true story of two star-crossed lovers-and a revealing portrait of an Elvis Presley that also looked at the crazy day-to-day world rarely featured in other Elvis books.
As the book publicity stated, "It started out like a fairy tale. She was a beautiful, hardworking Congressional aide. He was America's most explosive entertainer. They met one night in Las Vegas in 1969 - a night that changed Joyce's life forever".

"My Fast Life" Rare Elvis Presley 1964 Interview: In March 1964 Elvis was filming his sixteenth movie 'Roustabout' at the Paramount ranch in Hidden Valley, California. Hollywood reporter Walter Rainbird was on set to interview Elvis for a Weekend magazine article.
Despite the never ending string of movies that needed publicity and promotion, Elvis gave very few interviews in the mid-sixties. This magazine feature therefore captured some rather interesting comments from him.
Elvis discussed everything from The Beatles, Priscilla, Ann-Margret, His Career, and Girls.

Author Chris Kennedy Interview about D.J. Tommy Edwards: Tommy Edwards was one of the most successful and innovative deejays in Cleveland history, alongside his professional rival, Bill Randle. He also hosted local TV shows like Farm Bureau Jamboree, which showcased country and rockabilly artists.
He jumpstarted many country and rock 'n' roll careers north of the Mason-Dixon Line, including Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Chuck Berry, and others.

Comedian Steve Martin on meeting Elvis: In our 'Elvis Live At the International' book review this week we noted that Elvis saw comedian Steve Martin performing live during Ann-Margret's Opening night show of 1971. (read extract here).

Sam Thompson, Elvis' bodyguard, 2011 Interview: Sam Thompson first met Elvis in November 1972. At the time Elvis was dating Sam's sister Linda Thompson. As an officer with the Shelby County Sheriff's Department, Elvis and Sam became fast friends. In July 1973, Elvis purchased a home for Sam less than a mile from the gates of Graceland. Sam travelled with Elvis on the road tours from 1972 until 1976 as Elvis' friend and companion. In July 1976, Sam went to work full time for Elvis, as his personal bodyguard and tour advance man, providing security for Elvis at Graceland, his other homes in California and on all the road tours, including hotel and airport security.

James Burton Interview - Rick Nelson & Elvis: An important 25-year milestone passed recently. Singer Rick Nelson perished on December 31st, 1985, in a terrible plane crash in DeKalb, Texas, on the way to a New Year's Eve gig in Dallas. Rick Nelson’s band-members also lost their lives, and Rick was only 45, yet he left behind a legacy that continues to impress and influence to this day.
While this interview is primarily about James Burton's earlier career with Ricky Nelson - however both Elvis' and Rick Nelson's paths crossed so many times that Elvis is also a key figure in this story.

Elvis photographer Richard Weede EIN Interview: On October 28th 1956 Elvis appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show for the second time. This was the first time that Elvis had been at the New York CBS studio since Elvis' previous Ed Sullivan appearance had been linked in live from a studio in Los Angeles.
Richard Weede, an aspiring photographer, was also in the CBS Studio that day and captured some fabulous candid images of Elvis at the Ed Sullivan rehearsals. His father was the famous opera star Robert Weede, so Rock'n'Roll was certainly not a staple at his home!
It was only recently that an envelope of these lost photographs was discovered - images that beautifully capture a classic moment in Rock'n'Roll history. EIN's Piers Beagley recently interviewed Richard Weede about his iconic 1956 Rock'n'Roll images.

Sandi Miller Interview: An exclusive interview with Elvis' good friend Sandi Miller with thanks to Elvis Collectors Brasil. Sandi was a fan of Elvis just like every one of us, but over the years she became a personal friend of his, a privilege that very, very few fans can say they had. Sandi not only became Elvis' friend but was also a guest at his various homes and was present at some important moments in his career. She also took some of the most beloved candid pictures we have of him. Many of his pictures appeared in the great Behind The Image book, together with her fascinating stories of Elvis, that could be relived as it just happened yesterday, thanks to the entries on her journals. Roy Turner, Elvis historian, talks about Elvis In Tupelo: Roy Turner is an Elvis Historian who is well-known in the Elvis world for his amazing research into this all-important period of Elvis' past. He was the major source of research behind Elaine Dundy's book 'Elvis and Gladys', has been involved in multiple Elvis projects and was the author of the recent MRS book 'Tupelo's Own; Elvis Presley'. Roy has intimate information about Elvis' early days and became good friends with Brother Frank Smith and Elvis' Aunt Lillian. In 2006 Roy Turner & Jim Palmer produced a documentary about Elvis' 1956 triumphant Tupelo return 'Homecoming: Tupelo Welcomes Elvis' which was premiered at the Tupelo Elvis Festival. The recently updated edit of Roy Turner's documentary is soon to be shown on nationwide TV. In this fascinating interview EIN's Piers Beagley recently talked with Roy Turner about Elvis' past and the relevance of Tupelo to his career.

Rex and Elisabeth Mansfield Interview: Rex Mansfield was inducted into the Army on the same day as Elvis Presley in March 1958. He went with him through basic training with him in Texas, and travelled with Elvis to Germany & Paris and became close friends for the next 18 months. Elisabeth Stefaniak was a young German girl in 1958, and was hired to answer Presley's fan mail. Elisabeth became romantically involved with Elvis, but was torn between her love for the King, and an ordinary solider named Rex Mansfield. In 2002 they published the fascinating book "Sergeant Presley: Our Untold Story of Elvis' Missing Years". At the time EIN's Piers Beagley was lucky to share some special time with this delightful couple. Jerry Schilling Interview: Ken Sharp recently interviewed one of Elvis' closest insiders Jerry Schilling for the US Goldmine magazine. Jerry Schilling and Elvis forged a close friendship that lasted from the mid 1950s all the way to Elvis' death in 1977. Jerry Schilling was a trusted friend and confidante who enjoyed an eyewitness take on life inside the gates of Graceland. He was also Lisa Marie's first manager and he still has strong bonds with EPE and Priscilla. His recent book 'Me And A Guy Named Elvis' however was one of the best releases of last year and his honesty was quite delightful. In this long and fascinating interview with EIN contributor Ken Sharp, Jerry reveals some great stories of his life with Elvis.

Priscilla Presley interview - on CNN: On August 15th as fans assembled for the Candlelight Service, Larry King interviewed Priscilla in the living Room of Graceland. She answered some interesting questions, even showing Larry King some of her personal mementos that belonged to Elvis. Priscilla also talked about meeting Elvis for the first time and their divorce - "We didn't get divorced because I didn't love him." Larry Geller new interview with EIN: From 1964 until the very final days Larry Geller was a close friend to Elvis. Perhaps Elvis might have lived longer had he paid more attention to Geller's healthy life-style and managed to shake off the excessive demands of Colonel Parker. With the 30th Anniversary fast approaching Larry was kind enough to answer a lot of questions that fans have raised with EIN and to also tell us something about his new book. Elvis-A-Rama - What Happened?: In a fascinating, but disturbing, interview, James Warner raises serious questions about the now defunct Elvis-A-Rama contest: Don't Be Cruel: Search For The World's Best Elvis Impersonator.

With impressive prizes (which appear not to have been awarded) and names behind the scenes including Jimmy Velvet, Paul Terry King and Chris Davidson, this was a TV show which never aired, leaving contestants financially out of pocket and not knowing what was happening.

James Warner's experience is a strong warning about how innocent people can be ripped off by promoters, who at the end of the day, are interested only in their own bank account. (Source: EIN, April 2007)

Roger Semon interview with EIN: Roger Semon, along with Ernst Jorgensen, is the co-producer of everything Elvis at SONY/BMG. It was in fact the UK Roger Semon produced 'E.P. Collection' that spearheaded the fabulous re-packaging of Elvis' musical legacy leading to the creation of the FTD label. Roger recently took time out of his busy schedule to talk with EIN about future releases, how he met Ernst Jorgensen, the future of FTD, 'Clambake', 'Tickle Me', 'Jailhouse Rock' and much much more.
