Huge boost for Parkes Elvis Festival: 'Things From The King' is a totally Australian owned, private collection of Elvis' personal items displayed by his friend, Joe Esposito. It will be featured in the Coventry Room during the annual Elvis Festival,in January 2006, in Parkes, NSW. The exhibition is a private collection featuring over 60 items, either owned, or connected with Elvis Presley. The exhibition features an audio guided tour by Elvis' long time friend, Joe Esposito, who worked with Elvis for nearly 20 years and was the best man at his marriage to Priscilla (Joe does not appear in person). The collection is owned by one of Australia's premier children's entertainers, Greg Page - better known as the Yellow Wiggle. Page has had an affinity with Elvis ever since visiting Elvis' home, Graceland, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Now Page wants to share that experience with Australians who have never been to Graceland. People who want to experience the King's story, and see his own personal items, as his story is told by one of his best friends, Joe Esposito. New book release - "All Elvis 2": Two years after Elvis Unlimited published the book All Elvis are a follow up in the making. This second volume will be made after the concept as the first volume. Elvis sighted at Disneyland: Last week, following a pre-Thanksgiving Day visit to Disneyland, a group of park regulars—they dislike being called annual passholders or APs—contacted obe-mediaone.com with an interesting story involving It's a Small World Holiday and Elvis Presley. While floating past Small World's version of England, this group of friends, which included three Southern Californians and two others from Salt Lake City and London, England, were admiring "the English" Christmas decorations. Thinking it was an English tradition, one of the guys from California asked if there was a pickle hidden in the British Christmas tree. What he was actually referring to was the myth of the German Christmas Tree pickle ornament, but that's another story. The end result, however, was that all five of these friends began to closely scrutinize the British Christmas tree in It's a Small World Holiday. They didn't find a pickle, but what they did find was just as unexpected. There, about a third of the way up from the bottom and slightly off-center of the artificial tree, was a large "gapping opening" among the neat and tidy rows of festive decorations. Recessed inside the opening, as if peering out from deep within the tree, was a face. According to one member of the group, "It startled me at first, because I couldn't make out what it was—then I saw a face, which seemed spooky—then I realized it was Elvis, which was just weird." It was owned by the station until June 10, 1975 when it was sold, along with the name and assets of the Louisiana Hayride radio program. In addition to its use in the KWKH studios, it was also used on the world famous Louisiana Hayride radio program from the mid-1950s until the end of its primary run in August of 1960, and saw continuous use on occasional Louisiana Hayride package shows throughout the 1960s. Artists signed by KWKH or guest-starring on the Hayride who would have used this microphone include Johnny Cash, George Jones, Roy Acuff, June Carter, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Jean Shepard, Roy Clark, Minnie Pearl, Ray Price, Roger Miller, Johnny Paycheck, Hank Williams Jr., Flatt & Scruggs, Mac Wiseman, Nat Stuckey, Leroy Van Dyke, Charley Pride, Freddie Hart, Bob Luman, Grandpa Jones, Marty Robbins, The Wilburn Brothers and countless others. The most famous role for this Model 55S came on the evening of December 15, 1956 when Hayride announcer Horace Logan first spoke the words "Elvis has left the building" into the microphone as the young Presley exited the Hirsch Youth Building in Shreveport after concluding his final Louisiana Hayride show. Simply trying to encourage the crowd of teenagers to take their seats for the remainder of the Hayride show, Mr. Logan had no idea how famous his words would become in later years! Marty Lacker slams "Elvis is alive" author: In part 2 of our interview with noted Memphis Mafia member, Marty Lacker, one of the issues discussed is the idea Elvis that faked his death. Marty takes a very strong stance about the idea and one author claiming Marty and Billy Smith admitted Elvis faked his death. From the 2nd part of our interview (to be published tomorrow): EIN: In his book "Elvis' DNA Proves He Is Alive", Bill Beeny claims (page 62) that in an article in People magazine (September 1996), you and Billy Smith finally "...admitted...that Elvis faked his death by using a donor body". What is your response to Mr Beeny's claim?
Marty: Bill Beeny is a nutcase and I told him that to his face years ago. The story Billy and I wrote was FICTION and it was presented to the London newspaper it appeared in as FICTION. Fools like Beeny like to use that for their own ludicrous agenda. He's really not worth the effort talking about.
EIN: What is your view on the idea that Elvis did not die on August 16, 1977?
Marty: Elvis died on August 16, 1977. It was witnessed and documented and an autopsy was performed on his body by reputable doctors in Memphis. The lead Dr., Dr. Muirhead is beyond reproach and enjoys a great reputation in the medical field. The people who foster the idiocy that Elvis faked his death are idiots or con men.

Now there are 2 Elvis reality TV shows!: 2005 has been the year of the Elvis "remix". Is 2006 going to be the year of the Elvis rality TV show? Earlier this year we published several reports about an American Idol type Elvis show. Well it turns out two shows are in the making. The first, involving a set of auditions in Garland, Texas, is called Elvis, Then, Now and Forever. It is the brainchild of Harry T. Keane Jr., the creator of American Idol. Among those competing are noted tribute artists, Kraig Parker, James Wages, Matt King and Matt Spalding. The winner will receive a mint-condition 1968 Cadillac, a $25,000 recording contract and other prizes. The second show is tentatively called Who Wants To Be Elvis? Sonny West, T.G. Sheppard, Sheena Easton and B.J. Thomas have apparently been approached to be judges, and the host is expected to be Ronnie McDowell. (News, Source: Bill E. Charts update: The "Hitstory" compilation moves up one place on the Official UK Album Charts this week to #38. The other good news is that with this weeks chart entry for "Hitstory", Elvis moves ahead of The Beatles for the first time in the weekly album points total. He now has a weekly total of 1294 weeks and The Beatles 1293. And there should be a few weeks from 'Hitstory' before it leaves the chart. In Australia, the album has dropped out of the ARIA Top 50 Album Chart after a disappointing short run. Fingers crossed it may re-enter the chart in the lead up to the busy Christmas period. "Hitstory" is yet to enter the World Top 40 Album Chart. Has Madonna tied Elvis?: There is a report circulating that Madonna has tied Elvis for the most top 10 hits in the rock era on the Billboard Hot 100 (Singles chart). The report claims both artists have achieved 36 top 10 hits. In fact, Elvis has scored 38 top 10 hits on Billboard as listed in The Billboard Book of US Top 40 Hits by Joel Whitburn. Elvis' tally comprises 32 different singles with both sides of six "double sided" hits making the top 10. The most notable of these was Hound Dog/Don't Be Cruel where both sides reached #1. Billboard's media release says: Madonna racked up that tally in about 21 and a half years, starting with "Borderline." Presley scored his 36 top 10 hits in 16 and a half years, from 1956 with "Heartbreak Hotel" until 1972 with "Burning Love." We're not sure how Billboard has missed two of Elvis' top 10 hits but hopefully they'll correct their release soon. For the record, the Billboard Hot 100 was introduced on August 4, 1958. In "Dell's Lunch Counter", containing nine mini-featurettes, novelist Barry Gifford discusses the adaptation and reveals Lynch had originally neglected to use the line "wild at heart and weird on top" ("the single most important line in the novel!") in his first draft - and was persuaded to put it back in. Diane Ladd recalls how she managed to shock even Lynch during her bathroom scene with Cage. Willem Dafoe reveals how he urinated for real (take after take) when Peru visits Lulu - later to learn the toilet was a prop, to be cleaned afterward by an unfortunate crew member. We also discover that Cage's iconic snakeskin jacket ("a symbol of individuality and my belief in personal freedom") was the actor's own, bought years before in a junk shop, and which he'd always hoped to wear one day in a film. He later gave the jacket to Laura Dern as a present. Santa Claus is comin' to town: Graceland officially begins the holiday season on Friday, November 25th, with the annual lighting of the lights and decorations on the mansion and plaza property. Calling All Fans - two Elvis books to have and to hold: If Elvis Presley the man came in all shapes and sizes, why not the books devoted to him? Cases in point: this season's The King (priced at US$75) and Elvis: The Personal Archives (US$29.95).
Piazza's text -- biographical chapter intros, informative photo captions, movie plot lines, time lines, trivia -- perforce takes a back seat to the eye-popping visuals. But there are small moments here too, none smaller perhaps (or more perceptive) than the conclusion reached by actress Dolores (nicknamed by Elvis "Whistling Britches") Hart: "Elvis is a very lonely man" -- an observation Hart made early in Elvis' movie career and, safe to say, before Hart entered a convent. For more on the subject of loneliness, consider Elvis' gold-plated bedroom phone. Artist Jeff Scott has considered it. He's even had the receiver in his hand. And he's photographed it -- a utilitarian object fit for a king but an object, to Scott's way of seeing and thinking, "representing something far more humble: a quiet man in his isolated domain, away from prying eyes and the desires of others, talking late into the night." That phone is just one object in the Graceland archives that Scott was allowed unprecedented access to. The photographs -- straightforward shots of Elvis' personal effects (his driver's license, his TV, his Colt 45 automatic, etc.) -- raise the real to the level of the surreal, the everyday to the level of the iconic. They serve as subtext not only to Elvis' private life but to the issue of Elvis' very identity, with this aim in mind: Scott is making a visceral connection between viewer and object that goes beyond looking. He wants you the audience to reach in, grab hold.
And he's happy to add that the people at Elvis Presley Enterprises gave their full cooperation over the three years he worked on this project. "They became like a family," Scott says. "They opened up Elvis' life to me." Scott continues: "I've been a fan of Elvis since I was a kid. But how could I translate Elvis' rise from rags to riches? "I wanted to study what that journey for him was like. Frame it as one aspect of American culture. Examine it from a fine-art perspective. Strip away the manufactured imagery of celebrity. Humanize Elvis. I wanted to put his archives in your hands." And younger artists such as Death Cab for Cutie, the Shins and Modest Mouse seem to wonder what all the "selling out" fuss is about. "As an artist, you've got to put yourself in some interesting places and do some things you might not have done when rock radio was more dominant and when MTV actually played videos," says Catharine P. Taylor, a staff writer at AdWeek. The Rolling Stones certainly have found new places to go with music from their new album. In order to make a bigger buck for "A Bigger Bang," the Stones have been written into the story line of the daytime soap opera "Days of Our Lives," and their song "Streets of Love" will be played during the show at tear-jerking moments throughout November.
Tyler Bacon is president of Position Music, a Los Angeles company that serves as a licensing middleman between advertising agencies and music artist. His firm, founded six years ago, manages the licensing of Elvis Presley's songs, among other notables. He said Presley's family is selective about how Elvis' songs are used. "It's all about retaining his image," Bacon said. "If Elvis is going to be used in any joke situation, the estate will automatically turn it down, no matter how much money is offered." One example of going too far might be Preparation H's bid in 2004 to use Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" to sell the hemorrhoid cream. Cash's daughter, singer/songwriter Rosanne Cash, refused to allow it, telling Advertising Age magazine the idea was "moronic." Marketing Elvis in 2005 (Part 1): We received this thought provoking message from author William P. Haynes: "One of the reasons Elvis fails to reach many record buyers is point of reference and that has to do with the timeframe that his popularity peaked and the direction A&R took his music in the later part of the sixties and seventies. RCA/BMG and later Elvis Enterprises has always marketed his material as strictly rock and roll and to a very minor extent that was true primarily in the first facet of his career.
However if you look at his catalog with an objective eye, you can see how the marketing has been misguided and Elvis has suffered as an artist because of that. There may be some plausibility to the claim that Elvis Presley was the king of rock n' roll in the fifties but by the late sixties that certainly was no longer the case. Both critics and fans point to the 68 comeback as his resurgence as a rock artist but again I stress to look at the material that followed. His last major recording session commonly called the Memphis recordings produced not one bonafide rock song. The biggest hit was Suspicious Minds which at the time was called adult contemporary. This brings us full circle to my original point that there is no point of reference for the record buying public. To "sell" Elvis as a product in today's marketplace you have to reinvent the work itself. The "King" tagline needs to be dropped with the rock references. The wealth of material recorded in the later years needs to be seperated into new CDs where the country songs are marketed to the correct audience, ballads with ballads etc. It's time now for Elvis to have a musical identity rather than to lump everything together in new packaging without any thought to the work itself." This week, thousands of people from around the world will be in Memphis to honor Elvis during Elvis Tribute Week, a week-long celebration of the life of the legendary singer. St. Jude also honors Elvis because of his early support of Danny’s dream. Elvis continued to support the hospital after the 1957 event. In 1964, the same year the Beatles invaded America, Presley donated a yacht, the U.S.S. Potomac, to St. Jude. The Potomac had served as the presidential yacht, or “Floating White House,” for President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Elvis gave the boat to St. Jude to do with as they saw fit. In a February 13 ceremony that took place in Long Beach, California, Elvis officially gave the boat to Danny. The boat was sold for $65,000 with the proceeds coming back to the hospital. Elvis’ legacy in music is unparalleled and his early support of St. Jude was remembered fondly by Danny and the Board of St. Jude. His support, and that of many others, enabled the hospital to tackle acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood cancer. At the time, only four out of 100 children survived ALL. By 1970, St. Jude research and treatment protocols had raised the survival rate to 50 percent, and today more than 80 percent of children stricken with ALL will survive.
Elvis fans can continue his support: Despite this success, there are still thousands of children dying from ALL and other forms of childhood cancer, not to mention infectious diseases and genetic disorders that St. Jude has pledged to investigate and cure. That’s why the fans of Elvis have continued to support the hospital: to continue the fight Danny began and Elvis joined. St. Jude has challenged Elvis fan clubs to raise $1,222, which will cover the costs of providing two days of intravenous chemotherapy for a St. Jude patient. Or fans can make a memorial or honor gift in honor of another Elvis fan. St. Jude will send a unique Elvis card to whomever the donor designates. Or the donor can send the recipient a special Elvis e-card, featuring artwork of Presley drawn by St. Jude patients. “Almost everyone can appreciate the music Elvis gave us over the years,” said David L. Elvis fan wins Australia's Brainiest Comedian: Comedian and media personality, Mikey Robbins, beat a star studded cast to be crowned Australia's Brainiest Comedian today. Mikey's special subject was "Elvis" and while the questions weren't particularly difficult for an Elvis fan, they helped him secure the trophy and $20,000 for his charity, Autism Australia. New book release: Elvis Cinema and Popular Culture by Douglas Brode. Though Elvis Presley’s music is widely credited as starting a sea change in American popular culture, his films are often dismissed as base marketing vehicles, commercially successful but insignificant. Beyond the formulaic plotlines and increasing reliance on weak songs, however, the films—and Elvis—serve as profound cultural touchstones, revealing changing American aesthetics more than a changing Elvis. Elvis’s rebel image in 1956, as a guitar-swinging incarnation of Brando or Dean, had by 1969’s Change of Habit become safe and sterile. This work demonstrates how Elvis, through his films, reflected a shifting social, cultural and political landscape in America. Encompassing all 31 movies and two 1970s documentaries, it provides a film-by-film study of Elvis Presley and America, and argues that each film reflects the society for which it was made. Throughout his career, most of Elvis’s characters combined rebellion with wholesome, traditional ideals, but the public’s perspective changed, and what was considered radical in 1954 was called reactionary by 1970. Studied sequentially, his films reflect those cyclical ideals, and unconsciously portray America’s process of renewal and redefinition of self. Holland record fair raided for bootlegs: Anti-piracy organizations from the Netherlands and UK yesterday raided the annual Record Fair in Utrecht, Holland, confiscating all bootlegs found. Robbie is a huge Elvis fan and I was delighted to be asked to supply a range of our Elvis memorabilia to decorate a film set in Blackpool where the secret film shoot for his next pop video was going to take place. In the video Robbie was to play an Elvis fan that had his home covered in Elvis memorabilia. I had asked if I could meet Robbie and be present at the video shoot and this was agreed. I had not heard back from the film company to confirm arrangements so I called them. I was told that at the last moment a decision was made NOT to use images of Elvis for fear of problems with EPE if the video was shown in the USA. They had to rewrite the whole script and do a completely new production. In effect, Robbie Williams was banned from using images of Elvis Presley. Instead Robbie dressed up as Elvis. Some stupid lawyer pulled the plug because of some imagined threat that had no foundation. On what grounds could EPE stop a video being shot in Britain featuring an Elvis fan having Elvis memorabilia in his home? My memorabilia has appeared hundreds of times over the years on US television and there has never been a problem. The same thing happened last year with the BBC and "EastEnders". They wanted my memorabilia for the set of a new character who was a big Elvis fan. Again, another stupid lawyer got cold feet and the producer had to stop using memorabilia they had already bought from us. So I contacted the local paper in Blackpool to tell them about the story and Robbie's filming in the town. As a result, Robbie was besieged by thousands of fans during the shooting of the video and a delighted Robbie said: "It's amazing the amount of people who have come down to say hello. It's made my night. I haven't seen anything like this since my days with 'Take That'. I feel loved." The "Southern Nights" last one is a live compilation from the Spring Tours of 1975 and a companion set to "Dixieland Rocks". "Southern Nights" is a soundboard recordings, meaning a recording at shows with semiprofessional equipment. There are several flaws on the original source tapes. "Southern Nights" shows just how vast Elvis’s repertoire was at that time, with 19 songs not featured on "Dixieland Rocks".
Jack Soden visits The Beatles!: Elvis Express published the following interesting story which was featured on the visit Beatles Liverpool site back in May of this year. Jack Soden, the head of Elvis Presley Enterprises, visited Liverpool and in particular Beatles Liverpool last week. This momentous occasion marked the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' first meeting with Elvis Presley and the recent twinning of Liverpool with Memphis to celebrate the 50th anniversary of "Rock and Roll". Speaking with BBC Radio, Soden explained that officers from the Elvis Presley Enterprises embarked on the visit to look at how the Beatles are marketed in Liverpool and to share ideas about what Liverpool can learn from Memphis. In the interview, Jack Soden commented they'd had a "fabulous time". He praised the Beatles Story museum as "well done". He said he'd been very impressed by what he'd seen. He said he would take away "a flood of memories and a number of observations and thoughts to apply to our own never ending goal of...enhancing the legacy of Elvis Presley." Regarding Strawberry Fields he said he thought it could be preserved as part of the Beatles Story. Elvis maxi single for release: BMG US will issue a maxi single for the 50th anniversary of Elvis' recording of his breakthrough single Heartbreak Hotel/I Was The One on January 10, 2006. The single will also contain an alternate version of the legendary song Heartbreak Hotel. It is not known yet when the single will be released in Europe. Elvis and Las Vegas: What may be the emblematic Las Vegas moment occurred almost half a century ago. Oddly enough, it happened 1,400 miles from the Strip, but that's part of what makes the moment emblematic: Las Vegas has never been a location so much as a state of mind. On Dec. 4, 1956, Elvis stopped by Sun Records, in Memphis, where Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis were recording. Later, Johnny Cash showed up. Thus was born the Million Dollar Quartet, an impromptu gathering of the gods. Celine gets a top ticket of $225. Imagine what Caesars could have charged for them. At one point, Elvis described a recent visit to Las Vegas, where he'd heard Billy Ward and the Dominoes. The group's repertoire included ''Don't Be Cruel," performed by lead singer Jackie Wilson. ''He sung the hell out of the song," marveled Elvis, who declared Wilson's version superior to his own. To demonstrate the point, Elvis (in Memphis) imitated Wilson (in Vegas) imitating Elvis (on vinyl). What makes this such a Vegas moment is the way it illustrates the fundamental condition to which the city aspires: the abolition of category. In his rendition of Jackie Wilson's version of ''Don't Be Cruel," we hear Elvis collapsing together black and white, recorded and live, here and there, past and present. Las Vegas eagerly elides them all, too, just as it does profit and loss, day and night, reality and illusion, nature and artifice. It's the city's special genius: There's no need to split the difference when you refuse to recognize a difference. ''Vive la difference!" say the French. ''Viva Las Vegas!" say Americans. How could we not? Vegas, which this year celebrates the 100th anniversary of its founding, is the most American place on the planet. Duke Adams, a 62-year-old "older-era Elvis," said he was approached while in line at a pharmacy by a man offering to sell him items once owned by Presley, including jewelry, clothing and the king's revolver. Remembering the March 2004 burglary, Adams said he asked the man to stop by his business the next day. Adams went home and called police. Authorities arrested Eliab Aguilar last week after the Las Vegas man brought all but one of the stolen items to Adams' employment agency, police said. "He'd laid it all out on the table. It couldn't have been handed to me more clearly," said Detective Kelli Hickle, who's been on the case since thieves backed a stolen tow truck into the museum, used the vehicle's hook to lift an overhead door and heisted the loot in a matter of minutes. Aguilar was charged with burglary, grand larceny auto, possession of stolen property and possession of a stolen firearm, Hickle said. She did not release information on any other suspects. Among the items recovered were a 41-carat ruby and diamond ring worth $77,000, a $65,000 gold and black onyx medallion that spells "Elvis" in diamonds, and a gold-plated Smith & Wesson .38 special. Elvis the greatest bluesman!: The following is excerpted from what sounds like a great book, Between Night and Day: The Last Unpublished Blues Archives by Dick Waterman:
I think that some of the greatest Bluesmen in the world were Hank Williams and Elvis Presley. They were poor white trash. They hung with Negroes, they listened to Negro music and Gospel. They liked it and played it. I spoke to older black men in their seventies and eighties who knew Elvis and said he's a good boy. He loved the music, he loved the Lord, he loved Gospel music, he honored his mother. They've got nothing bad to say about Elvis. The idea that white people rip off black is ridiculous. Sure there are isolated cases, but I'm telling you that Blues is based on economics. I think Charlie Musselwhite, who was from Mississippi, moved to Memphis as a teenager, hung on the streets with Will Shay, Gus Gannon, Smiley Lewis, Booker White, moved to Chicago's South Side, hung with Little Walter and Big Walter, Howlin' Wolf, I think that he's more of the genuine to-the-bone Bluesman than a lot of black guys who were more privileged. Obviously it's my opinion, but I've been on the scene now for nearly fifty years. Hank William, Elvis Presley, Charlie Musselwhite, their okay, they're Bluesmen to me. Processed and pressed for the first time since 1954 from the original Sun master “Mother stamper”. The original Sun 209 45 rpm issue of That's All Right was Elvis Presley’s first commercial record. It was recorded on the 5th July 1954 at the Memphis Recording Service and was released later that month. In late 1955 That's All Right was re-released by RCA Records with an added echo effect on the vocal track. Subsequent re-issues of this song from 1955 to the present day have all contained that same echo effect, not faithful to the first Sun recording. If you have never been fortunate to own the original pressing and hear the sound as it was intended, here it is. Starting on Wednesday, November 9th (2 pm), DJ Olav Pawlenko will begin his world record attempt. Target is 72 hours non-stop Elvis, but the ultimate goal is 80 hours. Although there’s a list of 775 official Elvis-songs that need to be played for the world record, the number of different versions, alternate takes and one liners, is 4.000.

Australian Idol "Elvis" special wins timeslot: In what must be a pleasing turnaround for its producers, last night's episode of Australian Idol won its timeslot in Sydney beating 60 Minutes. Idol had 522,000 viewers to 60 Minutes', 450,000. Shows on the Prime network, ABC and SBS took out the minor placings. This series of Australian Idol has failed to attract significant ratings, usually coming in 3rd or 4th in the 7.30pm timeslot. (News, Source: Amber Smith) Council investigating Elvis Walk of Fame: Parkes Shire Council has given in principle support for the establishment of an Elvis Walk of Fame in Parkes, NSW, Australia. This follows a request from the Parkes Elvis Festival committee for the establishment of a Hollywood style walk to commemorate Australian rock 'n roll legends. The concept would see each nominated `legend' having his or her name engraved onto a bronze star for positioning along the walk. Parkes has become famous for its Elvis weekend in January and already the town is booked out for the 2006 staging. Organisers have even put out a request for home billeting - such is the demand for accommodation. Throughout its history, the Elvis weekend has included a ceremony on the Sunday at Bushman's Dam where an Australian rock ‘n roll star is commemorated on a wall of fame. Discussion at the last Parkes Shire Council meeting on the exact location of the proposed Walk of Fame saw several sites mentioned including a section through the avenue of trees at Bushman's Dam leading to the current Elvis memorial wall. Other suggestions included Cooper Park opposite the Moonraker Motor Inn or a section in Clarinda Street to be established in conjunction with the main street beautification plan. Australian Idol "Elvis" special wrap: Unlike most reports about its Canadian counterpart, the Australian "Elvis" edition of Idol turned in some good performances. The critics favorite, Emily, was particularly good on Blue Suede Shoes, but surprisingly failed to nail Can't Help Falling In Love. Punk rocker, Lee, gave the audience Jailhouse Rock on speed, and it worked. His first performance, Teddy Bear, was also a crowd pleaser. Kate lacked visual purpose with Burning Love and despite receiving good reviews from the judges for The Impossible Dream, she failed to scale the high notes that bring the song to its peak. Dan gave a good vocal on Hound Dog, minus any real Elvis gyrations, and his Heartbreak Hotel was more than competent without being outstanding. The show also paid nice tribute to The King in places, but unfortunately couldn't resist the "fat Elvis" stereotypical quips. (News, Source: ARIA) Idol judge in mean mood for Elvis special: TONIGHT'S theme on Australian Idol is Elvis Presley and, appropriately, the final four contestant's plea to the judges is "don't be cruel". Unfortunately, it is sure to fall on deaf ears, if Mark Holden's comments to the are anything to go by. Holden is particularly savage on Melbourne punk rocker Lee Harding, who will be singing Jailhouse Rock and Teddy Bear. "Lee is in danger of becoming Nikki Webster," Holden says. The caustic judge has already had a run-in Harding, who admitted he did not understand the overtly political content of the Green Day song Holiday when he covered it on the show. Not that Harding holds a grudge – he rates Holden his favourite judge. Dreadlocked Dan England fared a little better, but still coped a stinging rebuke. The Brisbane lad says he prefers Kyle Sandilands as a judge to Holden because of the former's "brutal honesty" But, Holden's comments could not be blunter. "He's never less than excellent," Holden says, "but he's got to get rid of that goo-goo smile." There is a lot to be read into Kate De Araugo's song choice The Impossible Dream. The Bendigo teenager is an outsider in the betting, a fact not lost on Holden. "She has to make her charge tonight," he says. But the tough judge could not find fault with red-hot favourite Emily Williams, who will sing Can't Help Falling In Love and Blue Seude Shoes "Emily is simply the best singer Idol has ever had," Holden says. Early in their careers, the young singers one night stayed up late taking publicity photos of each other. "They were up to 3 in the morning," Day said. "She got in trouble with Mama for that. She said, 'But Mama, it's Elvis.' Mama said, 'I don't care who it is.'" Pittman began thinking of a singing career when she won a high school talent contest, Day said. As a child, Pittman spent time at her uncle's pawn shop on Beale Street, where she listened to jam sessions with B.B. King. When she was 10 or 11, she auditioned for Sun Records, only to be told by Sam Phillips to come back when she learned how to sing. Later Phillips would be impressed by a demo she cut, "Playing for Keeps," and recorded her first session at Sun in 1956, according to the Rockabilly Hall of Fame Web site. Other singles followed, including "No Matter Who's to Blame," "Two Young Fools in Love" and "I'm Getting Better all the Time." John Singleton, president of Sun Entertainment in Nashville, said Phillips used mostly male singers but liked Pittman. "She's considered one of the most important Sun female artists," Singleton said. Day said her sister had a good sense of humor and "could tap dance. She could do anything." After that trip to England in March, Day said her sister's health declined. A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer. Though a major hit remained elusive in her career, finding a gig wasn't. "She definitely worked hard at it all her life," Day said.
Rumor mill: According to a posting of the FECC board, a radio station suggests DJ R Kelly wants to do a remake of Elvis' #1 classic hit, In The Ghetto, with superstar rapper 50 Cent and hip hop diva Olivia. According to the radio DJ, R Kelly is an Elvis fan and friends with Lisa Marie and even produced a lost track for her that never got released. Fans at the Memphis Theatre will be treated to an intimate evening with Elvis Wade, as the famous impersonator will be returning to northeast Missouri for the third consecutive year to take the stage for what is expected to be yet another sold-out performance. Wade performs around the world with his 15-piece orchestra accompanied by seven back-up singers with tickets easily ranging from $50 to $100 per performance. He was initially drawn to Memphis, MO for deer season when he traveled to the area to pursue his favorite pastime. This letter was received from a Dr Keith Noble and it highlights the sometimes ridiculous nature of the Elvis world: "My name is Dr. Keith Noble. I have read your posting regarding the private tour with Joe Esposito. I get my information from New York directly and have confirmed it with four other sources two of which are legal attorneys in the employ of EPE, and they are telling me the same thing, namely that your information is incorrect regarding the personal tour being conducted by Joe Esposito. Here is the story I have. You can draw your own conclusions at the end of this letter. My verified sources: You can check on this of course starting with (Scott in their marketing and sales department, they should be able to verify a small portion of this I am sure you already have his phone number) got a call from Joe Esposito three weeks before Joe announced the release of his contest on the TCBJOE Website. EPE at first agreed to support and promote the contest and allowed Joe to conduct the tour. However after the first negative emails started arriving about the tickets costing money etc. EPE was forced to retract their offer to publish and promote the TCBJOE contest on their site and to their members, which is understandable considering all of the bad press EPE could draw being associated with the event. I do not need to tell you that bad press for EPE is most unwelcome, especially during the internal changes the company is undergoing at present. This is the part you need to let everyone know about, before you read it in the upcoming November edition of Elvis International The Magazine which is officially sanctioned by EPE. Joe Esposito is allowed to conduct the private tour with the winner of his contest. You have a choice to make at this point, leave the article on your site as is and lose your credibility as a reliable Elvis News source to many Elvis fans that visit your site and have your errors for all to see.... Or you can verify what I am conveying to you personally and then tell your the fan base that you have conducted another independent investigation to verify your previous findings and have concluded that a few statements regarding the private tour required some corrections. Joe Esposito is taking the responsibility of promoting and selling the tickets on his own to the fans since it's his company after all and they realistically have nothing to do with how he runs his business. I have been a collector of super high end Elvis memorabilia for years and know what bad information can do to your wallet. Your collection is only as good as your contacts and the information they can provide you.

EIN comments: Firstly, we didn't much care for the tone of Dr Noble's message, whoever he is. EIN contacted EPE directly and reported exactly what they told us (= verified source!). Dr Noble...that is not an error! We don't see how our reputation can be harmed by printing what EPE said! If what we printed is incorrect then someone inside EPE is also wrong. We're only too happy to correct any incorrect information we've published. In this case EPE is yet to tell us their original advice was incorrect! If there is a political issue involved between Joe Esposito and EPE (as is suggested by Dr Noble's letter), then those parties need to need to sort it out. Dr Noble should be taking up his issues with EPE, not EIN! As for EIN being shut down (appeal to consequences), well sometimes Piers and I might like to think we're that important (but we know we're not). Dr Noble...get real! In his letter, Dr Noble has engaged in a number of logical fallacies or false arguing. For instance, we fail to see what his collection has to do with the Joe Esposito issue (argument by analogy), and the fact that EPE has nothing to do with how Joe runs his business is irrelevant to the issue at hand. What is relevant is the fact that Joe needs EPE agreement to conduct a private tour of Graceland! If anyone knows who Dr Noble is (as we've never heard of this super Elvis collector) please let us know.

Elvis sighting - Tanglewood student wins award for Elvis pumpkin: Hannah Eddins, 10, likes Elvis Presley, because he reached for his dreams and succeeded. “He followed his dreams and I’m going to follow my dreams,” Hannah said. “I want to be a tour guide at Graceland.” Hannah first became aware of Elvis Presley when she watched Disney’s “Lilo and Stitch.” “In the movie, Lilo has a pet alien (Stitch) and she tells him he looks like an Elvis fan,” she said. Lilo dresses up Stitch like Elvis and teaches him Elvis songs. “She is teaching him how to get girls,” Hannah explained.
