Elvis Estate Drops Suit Against Beretta: The Elvis estate voluntarily dismissed its civil suit against the Beretta gun company on May 29.
Written in the court document closing the case is a one-sentence explanation: “EPE Inc gives notice that it dismisses this action with prejudice because the dispute giving rise to the filing of a civil action has been settled.”
No word yet how the case was settled.
The estate filed suit against Fabbrica d’Armi Pietro Beretta S.pA. in April, claiming that the Italian gun company used the Elvis Presley’s likeness to promote new shotguns in an advertising campaign.
The ads launched late 2012 and shows what appears to be
Elvis wearing his rhinestone-studded jumpsuit, a shooting vest and ear protection while wielding dual finger guns, and is accompanied by the caption, “The new legend in clay shooting … Highest-level performance to shoot like a star.”
Additionally, at press events Beretta had Elvis impersonators appear, perform and greet gun enthusiasts, and in some cases the company had the impersonators pose with weapons.
Perhaps there are more profitable behind-the-scenes deals being made.

Bid opening delayed for Elvis Presley Trail: The project designed to open up a new pathway from downtown Tupelo to the Elvis Presley birthplace moves forward but with a slight delay.
The bid opening was to take place Thursday morning, but it is now postponed until June 5.
The Elvis Presley Birthplace Trail project includes a beautification effort which begins at Green Street and continues to Veterans Boulevard.
When finished, the project will include roadway and bridge widening, curbs, sidewalks, striping and new traffic signals.
Potential bidders, both prime contractors and subcontractors, asked for extensions to get more quotes on materials.
"Hopefully, the result will be a better bid for the city's behalf - a lower bid where it will come in for a better price for our taxpayers," said Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton.

First-Ever “Graceland Auction" at Elvis week 2014: For the first time ever Graceland will be hosting its auction of genuine Elvis artifacts during Elvis Week in Memphis this August. This unprecedented “Auction at Graceland” will be the first auction of a limited number of Elvis artifacts authenticated by the archivists at Graceland, and the first-ever to take place at Graceland. The auction is scheduled for Thursday, August 14, 2014, with fans and private collectors from around the world expected to participate onsite and online. Graceland also announced the launch of Graceland Authentication, a new professional service for private Elvis Presley collectors, who can now have their artifacts authenticated and appraised by the highly-experienced archive staff at Graceland.
The Elvis Week auction will feature a number of rare and exceptional artifacts from the collection of Greg Page, founding member of The Wiggles and one of the world’s biggest and well-known Elvis Presley collectors, as well as items from other
private collectors. Graceland’s exhaustive authentication process for the auction will set a new “Gold Standard” for pop culture artifact authentication, ensuring that every Elvis item is the real thing. All of the items in the auction will be offered from third-party collectors and none of the items included in the auction will come from the treasured Graceland Archives. The mansion and all artifacts in the Graceland Archives continue to be owned by Lisa Marie Presley and are not for sale.
Jack Soden, EPE CEO noted, “Throughout the years, fans and collectors have come to us with amazing Elvis artifacts, asking us to authenticate their items. We’ve also seen Elvis memorabilia sold at auctions, which were not properly authenticated. We’re pleased that Graceland now has the staffing and infrastructure to evaluate these artifacts, determine if they are, in fact, actual Elvis items."

UPDATED - El Gamble - the Passing of a Legend - Australia's "Voice of Elvis" and rock 'n' roll star has "left the building": EIN is very sad to report that after a long illness, the legendary El Gamble passed away last week, aged 66.  The term legend should never be used lightly and in El Gamble’s case it certainly isn’t!  Apart from his record breaking Elvis show, El Gamble worked with many of Australia’s and a number of the world’s greatest performers, including John Farnham, Johnny Devlin, Digger Revell, Kamahl, Kylie Minogue, (being fired by Australia’s King of Rock ‘n’ Roll) Johnny O’Keefe and (almost working with) the legendary Sir Tom Jones.

100,000 Australian El Gamble Fans Can’t Be Wrong! El Gamble was the original Australian Elvis tribute artist back in 1977 and after Elvis' death he went on the road to perform his The Life and Times of Elvis Presley tour to more than 100,000 fans in nearly 300 “sold out” shows!

While his later years were afflicted by a rare motor neurone disease this didn't stop El making a "Comeback" in Parkes in 2006 which rejuvenated his career. EIN pays tribute to one of Australia's musical greats:

Elvis' Tooth Lost In The Post: A postal mix up means Elvis' crown which has been touring the UK and was expected at the Appledore Cosmetic Dental Clinic has gone missing. Staff are speculating Elvis' tooth may have been returned to sender after a postal mix up this morning.
Dentists expecting to spend the day celebrating the arrival of the King's crown had a nasty surprise when they discovered the parcel was not what they were expecting.
Staff at Appledore Cosmetic Dental Clinic in Forest Road, Binfield had planned their day around the arrival of a dental crown worn by Elvis Presley. However, when they opened the parcel they discovered nothing but dental equipment. Owner, Dr Teresa Day said: "Elvis is in the building but his tooth is missing.
"We're all dressed up as Elvis, we've still got Elvis music playing and we're still doing the free mouth cancer screening."
The event was planned to draw attention to mouth cancer and the surgery has offered free screenings worth £65 to anyone who comes in dressed as Elvis.
The crown was made for the rock and roll star by former Memphis dentist Henry J Weiss, Elvis' dentist until 1971, and called it 'the King's crown'
It was bought at auction by Canadian Michael Zuk for £6,500.

'Bossa Nova Baby: Party Album' European version: Just when you think SONY has created a funky new cover for a party album (see below), they then come up with a crappy "K-Tel" type design for the "Bossa Nova Baby: The Ultimate Elvis Presley Party Album" European version! What were they thinking?
The European version features nine extra tracks, but then they totally dilute the content with rubbish like 'Stop, Look and Listen', 'Adam and Evil', 'What a Wonderful Life' and 'Girl Happy'. These are songs that will not be making GenZ dance across the floor - sometimes Less really is More!
Tracklist:1. Bossa Nova Baby - Viva Mix, 2. A Little Less Conversation - JXL Radio Edit Remix, 3. Burning Love - Viva Mix, 4. (Let's Have A) Party, 5. Jailhouse Rock, 6. Guitar Man, 7. King Creole - Viva Mix, 8. Viva Las Vegas, 9. What a Wonderful Life, 10. A Big Hunk O' Love, 11. Follow That Dream, 12. Rubberneckin' - Paul Oakenfold Remix, 13. Got a Lot O' Livin' to Do!, 14. Good Rockin' Tonight, 15. Little Sister, 16. Girl Happy, 17. Stop, Look and Listen, 18. Adam and Evil, 19. Down in the Alley, 20. Big Boss Man, 21. Too Much Monkey Business, 22. Patch It Up, 23. Mystery Train / Tiger Man, 24. Suspicious Minds

'That's the Way It Is' Legacy 2CD Set: It seems that although 2014 is supposed to be a celebration of Elvis and the "60th Anniversary of the Birth of Rock'n'Roll", SONY have instead decided to celebrate the 44th Anniversary of 'That's the Way It Is'!
Not only is the Warners Deluxe BluRay DVD Digibook movie being released, as well as the "Deluxe" 8 CD, 2 DVD set also being rumoured - but the two-CD 'That's the Way It Is' Legacy release has also been noted on amazon.

FTD of course released their version back in 2008 so one wonders what RCA/Legacy are going to include on the "General Public" Legacy version.

Release date August 5, SONY are yet to confirm content

'Scotty Moore and the Guitar That Changed the World': Today is the last chance to hear the BBC radio programme about Scotty Moore. As part of the most amazing musical adventure of modern times Scotty pioneered the role of guitar in pop music with searing solos that inspired and influenced generations of guitar heroes.
To mark the 60th anniversary of the first time that Scotty recorded with Elvis at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis, Chris Isaak journeyed to Memphis to meet Scotty and find out more about the man who has played on more hits than any other guitarist.
Back in the studio where the Elvis legend began, Scotty tells Chris how he and bass player Bill Black recorded the song 'That's All Right' with Elvis in 1954 and unwittingly sparked a revolution that changed music forever. As well as being Elvis's guitarist Scotty was also his first manager and was with Elvis every step of the way as his career flourished.
Scotty's was highly influential both in his style of playing and the fact
that he became the first rock 'n' roll lead guitarist. In the 50's artistes like Ike Turner, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and BB King played their own lead guitar parts, but Elvis left lead duties to Scotty, who became an inspiration to countless guitarists that followed.
As The Rolling Stone's Keith Richards explains to Chris in this programme, "Everyone else wanted to be Elvis, I wanted to be Scotty.". ?

Elvis Presley's hair used to write his 'last song'!: Will the craziness ever stop? Now Elvis' "last song" has supposedly been written by a scientist armed with a computer and a lock of Elvis' hair. Stuart Mitchell was chosen by Rolling Stone magazine to produce the unique musical score using the DNA profile from a lock of Elvis’ iconic quiff. The result was immortalised in a short documentary starring Stuart, 53, shown at the Cannes Film Festival.
Stuart, from Musselburgh, East Lothian, has a worldwide reputation for turning DNA copy numbers into music.
He first gained recognition with a composition based on the Da Vinci Code, the symbols hidden in Rosslyn chapel, near Edinburgh.
He and his music teacher dad Thomas, 82, worked out that sculptures in the chapel related to musical notes.
For the new project, he used Elvis’s unique DNA code to put together a
new tune. "I was delighted to be asked to bring Elvis back to life because he is the biggest musical celebrity in the world and loved by millions.
"It was a poignant moment when I received Elvis’s DNA code from the lab carrying out the test. "There were tears in my eyes when I heard what a beautiful melody his DNA had. The sound is not at all rock and roll. It’s almost like a simple lullaby.
"What makes the project extra special for me is that people around the world will be able to hear and use Elvis’ DNA music for free. If they make any money from it, if it is used in a hit record, for example, it can be donated to the foundation set up by Elvis to help homeless kids."
He first heard DNA being used to make music in 2002 and started his own firm, DNA Music, nine years ago.

"1956 - One Night with The King" : La Crescent resident Shirley Hart was fortunate enough in May 1956 to visit and have her photo taken with Elvis Presley when he performed at the Mary E. Sawyer Auditorium in La Crosse.
On the face of it, it could be any young couple from 1956, except it isn’t and that’s obvious from the moment you see it. Hart, clinging close to the man she’s crazy about, looks like many other young ladies of her days, except she’s slightly nervous and clearly happy.
The man, after all, is Elvis Presley.
Taken on a warm night on May 14, 1956, before he was crowned the king of rock ‘n’ roll, Hart unaccountably found herself backstage with the icon when he performed two concerts at the Mary E. Sawyer Auditorium in La Crosse.
"Elvis wasn’t at all what he was like from reading the papers. He was very quiet and very nice. We talked for an hour about everything," Hart said. She then watched him perform from backstage.
That nice and quiet boy turned into a hip-swiveling sensation when he stepped into the light and in front of an adoring crowd.
She cared enough to write an essay — now long gone — expressing why she loved the singer and that got her elected president of the local Elvis fan club.
But that’s not what got her backstage.
The other man in the photo, the avuncular man with the striped tie, got her backstage. He was Lindy Shannon, a popular deejay and radio personality at the time, and Hart said he arranged the special honor.
Although Hart didn’t know it at the time, forces were out to stop Presley from performing in La Crosse, including someone who wrote
J Edgar Hoover to plead for his removal from the city, but La Crosse Tribune accounts from those two nights depict an auditorium packed with thousands of screaming fans. They tried everything and anything to get a glimpse of the star, and newspaper coverage implied what a big deal it was to be there.
Caught forever, hand on her hip, herself an icon of an entire generation of excitable young fans, was it really as thrilling as the black-and-white footage would have us believe? "More!" she said.

Sonny Burgess Talks Elvis: In a recent Washington Times article rockabilly guitarist Sonny Burgess told the story of seeing Elvis perform live for the first time.
The Newport, Louisiana, native worked with legendary artists such as Elvis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and Conway Twitty, among many others. While Burgess' career spans 50 years, playing for millions of fans with hundreds of musicians and bands, one artist stands out the most.
The nightclub in Jackson County was filled with anticipation. Even a seasoned musician like Sonny Burgess knew the vibe in the club was different that night.
"Elvis Presley stepped onto the stage. The band started to play. His hips began to move. He sang 'Good Rockin' Tonight' and before he was done, the crowd was whirled into a frenzy. Boy, Elvis was different, as soon as he walked into the building you could feel his energy. He had the looks, the songs and the charisma. Whatever a star has, he had it - more than anyone else."
When Burgess got out of his Army stint in 1954 the rock ‘n’ roll era was dawning and Northeast Arkansas, especially Newport and Jackson County, served as the music movement’s cradle. The best acts performed at the Bob Kings, The Silver Moon and Porky’s Roof Top Club. Law enforcement turned a blind eye to gambling in the clubs which allowed owners to pay the musicians
more than they earned in Memphis or Little Rock.
Burgess and his bandmates formed the Moonlighters, and they opened for Elvis at least four times. The band expanded and became The Pacers in 1955. At the behest of Elvis, the group went to Memphis and recorded several songs, including "Red Headed Woman," for famed producer Sam Phillips.
The Pacers recorded several songs during that era, but the band never rose to the heights of Elvis and the others. Burgess said he made one mistake that affected his career. "I should have left Newport," he said. "I should have went to New York or Los Angeles. But I stayed in Newport."
Through the years Burgess has been inducted into numerous musical hall of fames and played in venues all over the world. The Pacers re-formed and play together often.
Burgess still plays to large crowds to this day. He recently returned from a gig in Las Vegas and will play at a number of festivals and events this summer, he said.
In the fall he’ll return to Europe, he said. "I love to play," he said. "I’m going to do it until I can’t."

'On A Winning Streak!' New Import CD: Out soon from Straight Arrow is the 3CD set "On A Winning Streak" - From "booth tapes Vol.4"featuring three strong shows as recorded on February 17 (DS + MS) and 18 (DS), 1973… which means that all of it was recorded within a day. This release documents what a strain it was on Elvis’ creativity and general well-being to be performing under such a tight schedule for a whole month, but it also shows how well he actually coped under the circumstances. All three shows are tight, lively and entertaining, and you can really hear that the whole room was buzzing with excitement at his shows. All three shows are well-paced, featuring a solid selection of concert favorites as well as songs from the recent ‘Aloha From Hawaii’ television special. Elvis is clearly enjoying the interaction with his fans, and there is plenty of that here. Interestingly, he momentarily loses his patience with one loud fan, though he later says that he was "just kidding".
A fascinating release, featuring all three shows in surprisingly good audience recorded sound: in fact, these recordings are amongst the

finest audience recorded shows out there. Everything can be heard clearly, including all of Elvis’ comments, and the well-balanced and crisp live sound on these recording will make you feel like you are right there in the showroom enjoying the King in person. These tapes were recently rediscovered, we believe that you will agree with us that this is a great find and a real must, and not just for the hardcore collector.

Is this the worst Elvis book release of 2014?

On Tour with Elvis: The Excitement of Being On The Road With “The King” (Book Review): The title starts the hype. The book introduction escalates the reader's anticipation, and Amazon UK's book description promises 'extreme detail'!

Despite its misleading rhetorical promise, On Tour with Elvis fails badly in delivering narrative substance to support its claims.

EIN's Nigel Patterson lets loose on what he regards as not only being one of the worst Elvis book releases of all-time, but (to date) the worst Elvis book release of 2014! (Book Review, Source: EIN)

Elvis Still Very Collectable: With Elvis fans getting older and many of them selling off their prize collections, people wonder whether Elvis is still as collectable as before. Well the nice surprise is that Elvis' 'Concho' jumpsuit jumped up 97% in value at the recent Julien's Auctions. (see story below)
While the Beatles got the top spot, Elvis Presley's 'Choncho' jumpsuit saw a fantastic increase on estimate at Julien's Auctions this weekend, proving The King's memorabilia remains in high demand.
The jumpsuit, so-called due to the concho ring fasteners, was valued at $80,000-100,000, though bidders boosted it to $197,000 - a 97% increase.
Elvis can be seen wearing the suit on stage in Las Vegas in the MGM documentary Elvis: That's the Way It Is (MGM, 1970), and is also known as "The Way It Is" jumpsuit. It was also worn during a 1971 gig in Lake Tahoe, where Presley donned a gorilla mask.
The suit was accompanied by two letters of authenticity.
Elvis' jumpsuits are the top-selling items of his memorabilia, with his Peacock jumpsuit selling for $300,000 in 2008
An Elvis stage-played Martin acoustic guitar made $44,800, while a TCB necklace presented to Dr Nick, Elvis' personal physician, made $35,200.
Perhaps the most significant Elvis item in the sale was the original contract between the singer and his notorious manager Colonel Tom Parker, which achieved a 284% increase on its $25,000 high estimate to sell for $96,000.

'Viva Las Vegas' 50 Years Ago: It's the story of a guy, a girl and the coolest city in the world. And, hard as it is to believe, it was released 50 years ago, May 20th 1964.
"Viva Las Vegas" the 1964 musical directed by George Sidney and starring Ann-Margret and Elvis Presley, is considered by aficionados of Elvis' cinematic oeuvre to be one of the best, if not the best, film he ever made.
"Viva Las Vegas" has it all. A kinetic, frenetic look at Las Vegas at its hippest. Ann-Margret, the only leading lady who ever could match Elvis' charisma and smoldering sensuality on screen. A score that spawned a song that everybody knows, every band covers and nobody can get out of their heads once he hears it.
Unlike Elvis' other lightweight sixties movies, award-winning director George Sidney created a classic.
Corinne Sidney, George Sidney's widow, recalls, too, that the director was very close friends with her first husband, Jack Entratter, and the Sands executive encouraged Sidney to make a movie that would show off Las Vegas.
"George loved Las Vegas," she says, "and he said, 'Why not?' "
Studio executives had told Sidney that the way to put Elvis' cinematic career back on track would be to "pump up the production values" and give Elvis a leading woman. It was George who said, 'Get Ann-Margret'.
Elvis' camp had qualms, but Sidney stood behind his choice. When the falling fortunes of Elvis' movies went head to head against Sidney's
talent and reputation, there was no contest.
"Viva Las Vegas" takes full advantage of the lights and color of the Strip and the city's resorts, but also shows off Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, Mount Charleston and other parts of the city. Clark says Sidney also tweaked the structure of the traditional movie musical for the film.
And that song? Written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, "Viva Las Vegas," released as the B-side of "What'd I Say" from the film's soundtrack, became a classic, covered by everybody from Bruce Springsteen to the Dead Kennedys.
"Viva Las Vegas" was released on May 20, 1964, and was around the 14th top money-earner of 1964 worldwide. By the end of 1964, the move was the 11th top earner in the USA, outranking The Beatles "A Hard Day's Night" and becoming Elvis' highest grossing film ever.
George Sidney died May 5, 2002, but Corinne Sidney is reminded regularly how enduringly popular "Viva Las Vegas" is.
"I get a residual every month," she says with a laugh. "I must get five dollars every month. And, I get fan letters to George."
Go here to the Las Vegas Review Journal if you want their full story.

New 'Viva Las Vegas' Photos on new BluRay?: The highlight of the Memphis 2014 Elvis Birthday Fan Club meet-up was the short video of the new pictures found from the set of "Viva Las Vegas." Archives manager Angie Marchese noted that she had the job of going through the photos for the 50th Anniversary of  "Viva Las Vegas". She said she expected to find about 2,000 never-before-seen pictures and instead she found 6,000 photos! At the event she presented a sneak preview together in a video on the big screen with "Viva Las Vegas" playing in the background. They were super pictures, plenty of them unreleased and new to everyone. Some real treasures. Later on Angie Marchese told EIN that she was talking to Warner about working with them on the new 50th Anniversary release. Elvis and Ann-Margret both looked so good hopefully these unpublished photos are part of the new BluRay release.

EIN has contacted EPE for confirmation.

Bill ‘Superfoot’ Wallace Talks Elvis: American martial arts man Bill ‘Superfoot’ Wallace, who was Presley’s bodyguard and personal trainer, was recently in Scotland and talked all about his times with the King.
Mr Wallace, 68, was visiting the Scottish Taekwondo Academy.
"Elvis was a wonderful person, a nice guy. It was fun working out with him too but you couldn’t hit him too hard. He was very good at martial arts, he worked out very hard. I can’t think of a better person to publicise martial arts!
He could crack the jokes like the rest of us but he had a temper.
"I remember he bought a 1974 Pantera, an Italian sports car, and he asked us to go along to see it. It wouldn’t start and he jumped out and came back and emptied a 45 automatic pistol into it — it still didn’t start - It was hilarious."
Bill (shown right with Elvis) revealed that Elvis’ favourite song at the time was 'Unchained Melody' and after he and wife Priscilla parted, he

used to listen to 'Climb Every Mountain'. (EIN, really??!)
"He gave me a station wagon in 1975. I kept it for a year, but then I traded it in. And when I became world champion in 1974 he gave me a motorcycle."
Bill, who still has some cherished photographs given to him by the singer, spoke of his shock when he learned that Elvis had died.
"My wife and me were taking a vacation and an Elvis song was playing on the car radio. I turned the channel and another Elvis song was playing. I knew something was wrong. I called Graceland and his cousin, who was his gatekeeper, told me he had died that morning."
"He was a boy from Tupelo Mississippi, he was doing something that nobody else did, you didn’t have an Elvis Presley before that. It was like the Beatles in England."

Jack Soden talks Graceland Guest House: The resort-style Guest House at Graceland is a $70 million project whose still-tentative plans include not only a restaurant and sports lounge with the 450 rooms, but also a performance center and meeting rooms.
The plan is to start site work later in June or early July, with a ceremonial groundbreaking during Elvis Week in August and a 12-month construction period.
"That’s a really ambitious construction schedule," EPE CEO Jack Soden told local residents, "But it’s the goal right now. After waiting for years and years this will take Graceland to a higher level."
It would be the third-largest hotel in the city, and Soden said it has been on Graceland’s list since the mansion opened for tours in the early 1980s and he became CEO.
The new hotel eventually will replace the Heartbreak Hotel on the west side of Elvis Presley Boulevard, currently EPE's only hotel in the area. "We’ll keep the Heartbreak Hotel functioning until the new hotel opens, after that, the Heartbreak Hotel will probably be taken down, due to its age it is unfeasible to renovate."
The plaza directly across the boulevard from the mansion will also probably see some changes over the years as it is updated one piece at a time.
Memphis City Council member Harold Collins, who represents the area and has spearheaded the $43 million in streetscape improvements. Soden said the plan for the hotel site is to keep the trees and add more, with the hotel itself set back from the street at about the same distance as neighboring Graceland.
"It is truly intended to be a resort. We intend to try to save every single tree that we can, and it is about making your houses on Old Hickory even prettier," he said. The properties on Old Hickory are also zoned residential with covenants that prohibit the zoning from being changed. see plan below

'Alternate Love letters' and 'I Can Help' New Import CDS: Two new CD releases "Alternate Love Letters" & "I Can Help the 30th anniversary" have been announced but not by any reputable import label and they look like they contain nothing that hasn’t been released before.

The promo blurb states....
'The Alternate Love letters From Elvis'
- features various undubbed and overdubbed masters plus a few live performances.

'Elvis I Can Help – 30th Anniversary Album'
This year it’s 30 years ago that the compilation album ‘I CAN HELP AND OTHER GREAT HITS' was released in the UK. It was one of the most successful Elvis albums of the early 1980’s. It was even released on picture disc and on single ( both ‘I Can Help’ and ‘Green Green Grass Of Home’ housed in a poster bag ) Strangely enough it was never released on CD. We are proud to present the entire album on CD for the first time, including some very hard to find bonus selections including the unreleased 12" version of I Can Help.
Housed in a stunning 3 panel digipack (with UNSEEN photo’s of Elvis from the mid 1970’s) this is a real ‘must have’ for all Elvis CD and photo collectors.

Baz Luhrmann Chasing His Elvis Movie Dream: Great Gatsby Director Baz Luhrmann has contacted Lisa Marie desperate to follow through with his vision for the grand spectacle of his Elvis bio-pic. The Elvis Presley estate, which has long refused to allow his music to be used in biopics, is considering approving a wave of movies about rock ’n’ roll’s most popular performer and Baz Luhrmann is leading the pack.
Lisa Marie may have eased such restraints in response to pleas from Luhrmann, whose films have impressed her. The Australian director has recruited London-based scriptwriter Kelly Marcel to produce a portrait of the Mississippi-born singer in the 1960s.
Luhrmann has promised an "extravagant but truthful" retelling of these years in an as-yet uncast and untitled film for Warner Bros, due in 2016.
There has also been a surge of interest in scripts about Elvis such as 'The Identical' which will focus on the singer’s faith. Another is based on Presley’s biography 'Last Train to Memphis' set in the city in the 1950s.
The Presley estate has been more wary of another project 'Fame and Fortune' based on a loving but unflattering memoir by a former bodyguard.

Elvis' Stutz Blackhawk Returns Home to Graceland: Elvis’ favorite car and the last automobile he drove in public has returned home to Graceland. After being preserved and showcased during the Charlotte Motor Speedway AutoFair, officials helped return the 1973 Stutz Blackhawk III to its home at the Elvis Presley Car Museum. Fans can once again see this car, along with over 20 other automobiles owned by Elvis in the museum.
Because the ’73 Blackhawk enjoyed special status among Elvis fans, as well as being so beloved by the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll himself, officials from Elvis Presley Enterprises decided to have the car undergo a special preservation process. The estate entrusted Pontiac collector and restorer Walt Hollifield to return the car to the condition it was in when Elvis last drove the Stutz on August 16, 1977.

'Elvis Presley On Stage' Live Review: The recent Elvis concert in Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall received a great review from the local paper.....
... ELVIS died in 1977 but 37 years later he's still near enough selling out the Royal Concert Hall. And I'm still not entirely sure how they pulled it off.
It all sounds very simple: we watch a film of the King on stage while a live band supplies the backing. But just think about it. Someone's had to put together the setlist - the spine of the show was from TTWII 1970 but there were detours to other concerts, his 1968 TV special, including the legendary "unplugged" section, and even a beyond-the-grave duet with his daughter Lisa Marie.
Then there's the small detail of isolating Elvis's voice and rehearsing 15 musicians and singers to accompany it with such precision that nobody sees the join. Just thinking about it makes me dizzy.
It's a bit of a thankless task for the band, to be honest. All showed staggering discipline and skill despite being stuck behind a semi-transparent screen on which the giant figure of Elvis frequently dwarfed them, figuratively (even on film, his humour and charisma burned bright) and literally (at times he must have been 15 feet tall). It took a while to get used to and perhaps I was just too close - the experiment seemed better suited to an arena.
By the second half, however, I stopped wondering about how they'd done it and just enjoyed the (terrific) music. Sweet Caroline was a belting version, alongside such classics as American Trilogy, In The Ghetto and a blinding Guitar Man.
As Elvis blasted through his immortal rock'n'roll classics, I caught myself thinking that, even now, Elvis is better live than many acts still drawing breath who I've seen on the same stage.

'Elvis Live On Stage' Dundee Disaster: Meanwhile Stig Edgren has had to apologise to fans after technical difficulties ruined the recent May 2nd Caird Hall, Dundee performance. After fans walked out in disappointment from the 'Elvis Presley — On Stage' show, Stig Edgren apologised and has admitted full responsibility.
Stig Edgren responded to complaints about the editing, sound quality and general production values of the performance stating: "I’m sorry they had a bad experience."
A fan Gordon McDonald said: "We have gone to every Elvis tribute that comes to town and nothing will put me off, but it was poor. Poor beyond description. I wouldn’t like to think that they were putting their name to this one."
Mr McDonald went to the last Glasgow concert with Elvis' original TCB Band - but this time the show was plagued by technical problems.
"The sound was so distorted that unless you knew the words of the songs you wouldn’t have been able to make them out. We could see them trying to bring the image down to the right size. It was so disappointing. It was just a shambles. Elvis would turn in his grave if he knew his fans were being treated like this."
Stig Edgren has asked audience members who were dissatisfied to contact his company.

Elvis, Bob Dylan's hero: A few years ago Bob Dylan paid a visit to Sun Studio in Memphis and planted a kiss on the spot where Elvis Presley recorded "That's All Right." When he left, another fan touring the studio ran after him to express his faithfulness not to the King but to Dylan. "Well, son," Dylan said, "we all have our heroes."
Dylan has always acknowledged Elvis as a hero, noting that first hearing Elvis was like "busting out of jail." Upon Elvis' death Dylan said, "It was so sad. I had a breakdown! I broke down. One of the very few times I went over my whole life. I went over my whole childhood. I didn't talk to anyone for a week after Elvis died. If it wasn't for Elvis and Hank Williams, I couldn't be doing what I do today."
In September 1994, Dylan specifically recorded several Elvis songs, 'Lawdy Miss Clawdy', 'Money Honey' and 'Anyway You Want Me' and has performed others on tour.
After Dylan was hospitalised in 1997, with a potentially fatal heart ailment, he was quoted as saying, "I am just glad to be feeling better. I really thought I'd be seeing Elvis soon.''
The new book "The Dylanologists: Adventures in the Land of Bob," by David Kinney, tracks the obsessions of Dylan fans the world over, as well as Dylan's own treks into fandom.

Robert Symms, photographer, dies: Robert Symms, a longtime Augusta photographer who captured the images of visitors such as President Eisenhower and Elvis Presley, died last week. He was 83. Symms was under contract for The Augusta Chronicle and Augusta Herald from 1951-1961, what he once called the "boom town" days as the Savannah River Plant grew and Fort Gordon expanded. Symms won many awards for his photographs over the years.
Over the years his sharp eye and friendly persistence gave Augusta many of its most remembered news images, particularly of frequent visits of President Eisenhower and his family.
Some of Symms’ most popular images came from a newspaper assignment of June 1956 performance of a young Elvis Presley before 6,000 screaming fans jammed into Bell Auditorium. When Elvis arrived Symms was awaiting for him with his Crown camera.
Most remember hearing Presley sing several hits including Hound Dog, which he would record a month later. However, Symms’ photos preserved their memories of the performance and continued to sell reprints over the next half-century. In 1977, when Presley died, The Chronicle republished them with Symms’ credit line displayed.

40 Years Ago: Led Zeppelin Met Elvis Presley: Ultimate Classic Rock has celebrated Elvis meeting the super-group Led Zeppelin 40 years ago yesterday.
The L.A. Forum played host to some of the greatest shows Led Zeppelin ever put on, and it was also the place where, on May 11, 1974, the band came face to face with their greatest hero.
Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Bonham were in Los Angeles, ostensibly for the launch of their own record label Swan Song. The night after the launch party at the Bel Air Hotel, the band minus bassist John Paul Jones decided to attend Elvis Presley’s concert at the Forum.
At some point, Elvis must have been alerted to the presence of the rock group in the audience because at one point during the

show – which was taped and later released on record as ‘Live in L.A.’ – he can be heard saying to his band, "Wait a minute… If we can start together fellas, because we’ve got Led Zeppelin out there…let’s try to look like we know what we’re doing, whether we do or not."
As it happened, Led Zeppelin and the King shared the same promoter, Jerry Weintraub, who set up a meeting after the show between the two parties. Plant later wrote about Elvis, "I met Elvis with Zeppelin, after one of his concerts in the early ’70s, I sized him up. He wasn’t quite as tall as me. But he had a singer’s build. He had a good chest — that resonator. And he was driven."
Plant also revealed a funny turn near the end of the evening. "At that meeting, Jimmy Page joked with Elvis that we never sound checked — but if we did, all I wanted to do was sing Elvis songs,"
Plant said. "Elvis thought that was funny and asked me, ‘Which songs do you sing?’ I told him I liked the ones with all the moods, like that great country song ‘Love Me’ — ‘Treat me like a fool / Treat me mean and cruel / But love me.’ So when we were leaving, after a most illuminating and funny 90 minutes with the guy, I was walking down the corridor. He swung ’round the door frame, looking quite pleased with himself, and started singing that song: "Treat me like a fool…" I turned around and did Elvis right back at him. We stood there, singing to each other."
Elvis’ and Zeppelin’s paths would cross another two times through the ‘70s, Presley’s home and also in 1977 on the Baltimore airport tarmac while both were on tour.
Elvis Presley inspired most, if not all the great rock and roll acts of the ‘60s, ‘70s and beyond. Led Zeppelin were no exception to this rule and the multiple opportunities when their paths crossed remained a thrill for the band and indeed for the King himself.

Lisa Marie Cancels All Tours: Lisa Marie officially scrapped all remaining dates on her Storm & Grace tour across the U.S. and Canada after doctors warned her that performing onstage would aggravate her chronic back pain. The singer is said to have been dogged by chronic back pain which is thought to be aggravated by performing on stage.
Reports are that Lisa Marie, 46, was 'ordered by her doctor her to pull the plug because he feared her condition would worsen with the strain of gyrating on stage.'
Her condition has reportedly got worse after constant touring since June 2012, which has seen her sing for audiences in Japan and Australia.
Presley has remained quiet on her Twitter page following news of the cancelled gigs, last noting, 'The Japan shows were a lot of fun. Thank you for being such a wonderful audience and for making it so incredible!'

She says she'll reschedule the cancelled concerts for sometime next year.

The double CD closely follows the tour set-list including newer segments such as, 'Baby, What You Want Me To Do' and 'Trouble / Guitar Man'.
As with the previous Stig Edgren tour compilation the tracks are the regular original recordings (with the TCB band who are not featured on the tour), "compiled from various Elvis Presley performances".
It will be a nice souvenir though.

'Nobody' Short Film to Premiere Summer 2014: 'Nobody' is a Kickstarter funded short film about an 18-year-old kid named Elvis, before he became Elvis Presley. The biographical story features the tender relationship between a young man and his loving mother, his devoted teacher, and the senior year talent show that changed everything...
It's an intimate portrait of a young dreamer, before the fame and revolutionary fandom.
'Nobody' wrapped filming in April and will premiere during the summer of 2014!
The film is being produced by recent Columbia College Chicago graduate, Elvis enthusiast (of 10 years!), and filmmaker, William Bryan (the film’s Writer and Director) as well as fellow Columbia alumnus and Award-Winning Screenwriter, Tom Radovich.
The film was shot on-location at Elvis’ Memphis Alma Mater, Humes High
School, and within the actual auditorium that Elvis sang in for the 1953 talent show.
The final scene of our film was shot within the secretarial office of Sun Studio. We end our story just before Elvis’ legendary career begins.
‘Nobody’ held a budget-raising project on Kickstarter and exceeded their campaign goal thanks to Elvis Fans from all over the world!
Our Elvis has a voice as Elvis Tribute extraordinaire, Mr. Ted Torres Martin, has provided the singing and instrumental talents for our film’s soundtrack, which was recorded at the one and only Sun Studio.
We held auditions in Memphis during Elvis Week 2013, and are proud to announce our cast!

New "Elvis On Stage" has a Big Impact!: The new "Elvis Presley On Stage" show without the TCB Band started touring Europe last week. Not surprisingly some fans really hate the fact that Elvis' original band members are missing. Others however praise the energy and power of the new recruits. The screen is huge!
Gone are the old back-projection video screens to replaced by the new technology video-wall hanging in front of the back-up band. Elvis is BIGGER and Louder!
Reviews state "The concert was remarkable. There was a real power being centre of the audience, it felt like Elvis was there in the room. Theres is a real suspension of disbelief, which is what it is all about. The best Elvis
show I have seen."
EIN's roving reporters are seeing it next week in the UK and will report back in detail.

Presley Birthplace Trail Project set: The city of Tupelo is accepting bids this month 29 for a project that officials say will connect the cultural roots of Tupelo with its downtown.
The Federal Highway Administration and Mississippi Department of Transportation recently gave the city approval to seek bids for the Elvis Presley Birthplace Trail project.
The project includes construction of overlay, roadway and bridge widening, curb, sidewalk, striping and traffic signalization from Green Street in downtown Tupelo to the Presley museum.
Mayor Jason Shelton says the project will enhance tourism by connecting Downtown Tupelo to the Birthplace for pedestrians and increasing recreational space for runners and bikers.
The project should lead to larger numbers of Elvis fans visiting Tupelo and all its attractions.

UPDATED - FTD - What now, What next, Where to – What’s left?: During Elvis’ lifetime, RCA released a total of between 60 – 70 albums, consisting of dedicated recordings, movie soundtracks and live performances.
The FTD label has been doing an excellent job at looking at the recording anthology of Elvis Presley and releasing every significant LP or recording session on a 1CD or 2CD ‘Classic Album’ version.
However as noted with the recent "ELVIS" second LP release there are less and less outtakes and studio sessions left in the vaults.
FTD’s first release was ‘Burbank ’68’ fifteen years ago, so with all the past releases and packaging what is left for the collector?

Open Casting Call for Young Elvis: The movie Last Train to Memphis from Twentieth Century Fox, in participation with Casting Workbook, is casting the role of Young Elvis for the new feature film. The search is for an actor 18 years of age or older to play a 16-22 year old Elvis.
"Last Train to Memphis" focuses on the years between Elvis's first, earth-shattering recordings and his meteoric rise to national prominence in 1956. These were years of revolutionary cultural turmoil, largely precipitated by Elvis's music. The screenplay recounts the story of his against-all-odds success due to his uncanny gift for self-invention, his unstoppable drive, and the new sound he created that changed the music world forever.
With director Kevin MacDonald, based on the 1995
Peter Guralnick biography, the film chronicles Presley’s early years and his transformation from a high school kid to an overnight sensation credited with ushering in a radical new era in music.

Prince Harry, Prince William pay respects to The King: Prince William and Prince Harry are royals, yes, but on Friday, they paid their respects to the real rock'n'roll king, Elvis Presley! Graceland was graced by the heirs to the British throne, who seem to be enjoying their time in Memphis ahead of Guy Pelly's wedding.
William, 31, and his newly single brother, 29, were given a private tour of Elvis' former home and the Graceland estate. Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie also reportedly paid a visit to the music mogul's home turf.
Dressed for the outing in jeans and a lilac-colored oxford shirt, the Duke of Cambridge, 31, joined his younger brother, 29, and a few others for a private tour of Elvis' beloved mansion. They arrived in a caravan of black SUVs and were later photographed walking around the grounds of the 14-acre property, which includes a trophy building, a meditation garden, and the racquetball court that now serves as an exhibition hall. At one point, the group was spotted wearing gold Elvis-style sunglasses.

New 450-room hotel planned for Graceland: EPE is planning a new 450-room hotel on land near Graceland.
Tentatively called "The Guesthouse at Graceland," it would be built on the same side of Elvis Presley Boulevard as the mansion, on land EPE acquired in 1994. The possibility of a hotel development was alluded to by Authentic Brands Group when they acquired EPE and the rights to manage Graceland for $130 million. Principals said they would pursue more high-end uses of Elvis' intellectual property and could invest upwards of another $130 million in improvements in and around Graceland, including a possible hotel.
"When we started exploring plans for long-term growth, a new hotel facility was a priority," said Jack Soden this week. "We feel the time is right for growth at Graceland and we are excited about this proposed project, which would enable Graceland to enhance the visitor experience and deliver an even higher level of world-class hospitality to hundreds of thousands of guests who visit from around the world each year."
Community meetings will be scheduled to seek feedback on the proposal. EPE owns 120 acres around Graceland, but only 43 acres are currently developed.

Leonardo DiCaprio to play Elvis Presley?: File under Crazy Elvis ideas - Just because director Baz Luhrmann likes using actor Leonardo DiCaprio in his films, now comes the rumour that Luhrmann wants DiCaprio to play the singer in his potential new Elvis bio-pic (see story below). This story has been suggested by "DNA India"!
The script for the movie will be written by Kelly Marcel, who also wrote the "Fifty Shades of Grey" screenplay. It is not clear what time period it will focus on.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers played Elvis Presley in a 2005 mini series on CBS. Rose McGowan played Ann-Margret. Meyers had a great resemblance to the "Blue Suede Shoes" singer, so it's interesting to imagine what DiCaprio might look like in the role. The actor is known to really transform himself for his characters. Dicaprio played real-life Frank Abagnale in "Catch Me If You Can" in 2002.
It might be the year of the biopic for DiCaprio, who has also been rumored to be up for a new Steve Jobs movie.

Director Baz Luhrmann for Elvis Biopic?: There are stories from Hollywood that Australian director Baz Luhrmann (The Great Gatsby) has entered negotiations to direct an untitled biopic on Elvis Presley for Warner Bros. 'Saving Mr. Banks' writer Kelly Marcel is supposedly already working on the screenplay, which isn't based on any existing material about the rock and roll icon.
It isn't known what periods of Elvis' life will be covered in this project. The director has been in negotiations for several weeks, and his deal is expected to be finalized. It is also believed that the filmmaker's wife, Oscar-winning production designer Catherine Martin (The Great Gatsby) will join the project as well.
Gail Berman is producing through her Tecumseh Productions company. Courtenay Valenti is overseeing the project for Warner Bros.
Baz Luhrmann made his directing debut with 1992's Strictly Ballroom, before moving onto the Shakespeare adaptation Romeo + Juliet and the 2001 Oscar-nominated musical Moulin Rouge. Last year he had success with his version of the F. Scott Fitzgerald literary classic The Great Gatsby.

UPDATED- Interview with Dick Grob, Elvis' Head Of Security: Some fans have very strong opinions about some Elvis associates such as Priscilla, Charlie Hodge and indeed Dick Grob. One can ask the question whether it is fair to judge these people like we sometimes do, since in reality we were not there – and yet they were.
Elvis’ life was pretty extraordinary, with many highs and lows, and one wonders how any of us would have coped with the stress, especially if you were responsible for the man’s safety.
In our special interview Dick Grob talks about Elvis as a friend and as a human being, life on the road, Aloha, Elvis’ fondness for the police, Ginger Alden, Elvis’ plans in ’77 for shows in Europe, Elvis’ decline and his death. Grob also discusses, Elvis’ reaction to a fan who said he should smoke marijuana to improve his music and his final conversation with Elvis in the very early morning of August 16, 1977.

Tupelo Hit by Storms: Elvis’ hometown of Tupelo was hit by a tornado on April 28th with a small northern portion of the town receiving significant storm damage. The American Red Cross has set up a command post and shelter at the downtown Bancorp South Arena as they assist those impacted by the tornado.
The series of deadly tornadoes that tore through the USA's midsection has so far claimed 31 lives.
At least one of the nine Mississippi victims was reported in Tupelo, where hundreds of homes were flattened, trees were shredded and a quarter of the city was left in the dark after power lines were downed, officials said.
The Elvis Presley Birthplace & Museum was not damaged in the storm, neither were any of the other Elvis-related landmarks that include Tupelo Hardware and Lyric Theater. Downtown Tupelo is fully functioning and
welcoming visitors as they continue the clean-up efforts.
In Tennessee, officials said two more people were killed and tornadoes were reported some 80 miles east of Nashville.

'ELVIS' FTD Classic Album Review: Elvis' fabulous second album, his first genuine album recorded for RCA. This is not a Greatest-Hits kind of collection, instead it contained twelve tracks of extraordinary variety - it is one of my favourite early Elvis albums.
There is no doubt that FTD had to produce this ‘ELVIS’ Classic Album version at some point - but it has to be a very different offering to the classic first LP as unfortunately the session tapes for nearly every song is missing. Another difference is that nearly all these tracks have already been remastered by Vic Anesini and have previously been released elsewhere.

So what is new? Is there anything that makes this FTD set worth collecting?
Go here as EIN's Piers Beagley checks out exactly what is offered on this new FTD release and could there have been more ....

Walkin' On The Bridge I Will Follow That Dream (an Elvis based tale): Giovanni Cesare Lambrughi's new screenplay is a vivid and entertaining look at the challenges of life.

It is a story of old and new beginnings, one rich in symbolism, with a strong musical soundtrack and a neat Elvis twist.

Hollywood veteran Michael Hoey talks to EIN: Michael Hoey is a Hollywood veteran who has worked alongside some of Tinseltown's biggest names, including Elvis. His latest book is Elvis' Favorite Director: The Amazing 52-Year Career of Norman Taurog. Michael recently spoke to EIN about his new book shedding light on a range of interesting subjects including:

  • Elvis as an actor
  • the 'Elvis formula' film
  • were Elvis films 'B' films?
  • what Elvis thought of his "more adult image" in his final narrative films
  • Elvis' relationship with the Colonel
  • how Hollywood has changed since its Golden Era
  • the use and impact of CGI in contemporary films
  • producer Hal Wallis
  • and of course "Elvis' Favorite Director" Norman Taurog

Read Michael Hoey's new interview with EIN

1950s Flashback - ".....one can’t help getting certain satisfaction out of the fact that he won’t be around for long.  He’s not music.": In the first issue of JazzWorld, in March 1957, editor and publisher, Chester Whitehorn, examined the rise of Elvis Presley and assessed it in comparison to the careers of two other entertainers who were the subject of incredible media obsession, Frank Sinatra and Liberace.  Whitehorn’s article was titled: Music vs. Elvis Presley.

Whitehorn's attack on Elvis' music embodied the strident, right-wing religious conservatism of the time and subliminal resistance of an adult population rallying against having its music replaced by the 'unruly sounds' of a younger generation. EIN's Nigel Patterson takes a closer look at what was only one of hundreds of articles attacking Elvis and rock 'n' roll music....

............Calls to expunge the devil’s music by burning Elvis’ records, ban his public performances given their lewd nature and for parents to lock up their daughters, were commonplace and it seemed the louder the protest the more successful Elvis, the ‘devil incarnate’, became........

For the Love of Elvis (Book Review): A new book by Professor Marla Selvidge will please many readers with its focus on the positive aspects of Elvis and why he was, and continues to be, important to many peopole today!

EIN's Nigel Patterson takes a look inside For the Love of Elvis and learns why Elvis resonates in the world 35 years after his death.

Marla Selvidge, "Elvis did not want to dominate his audience; he loved and cherished them in a way that no other performer has done."

- How do you feel about the FTD's Classic series of Albums with outtakes.
- Is it possible that there is other footage out there of Elvis’ concerts.
- Is there anything in your book that you wish you would have kept to yourself.
- Did the city of Memphis ask ELVIS to stop autographs at the Graceland gates.
- Why didn't Elvis keep his renewing his concert setlist
- What would Elvis be crusading for nowadays?
