'Elvis On Tour' cinema FAN REVIEWS: UPDATED with lots of your comments. Two differing fan reviews of seeing 'Elvis On Tour' at the cinema last night. Greg Nolan Jr reports on a fabulous night out in suburban New York while Ida R has a very different, disappointing experience in Addison, IL.

'Elvis On Tour' cinema special gets mixed reactions: The special July 29 US screening of 'Elvis On Tour' gets mixed reactions from fans. EIN has received reactions suggesting it was a "Great Night Out, seeing Elvis back on the big screen and with an excited audience" to "A Total Disappointment, just the same as the original and this one has nothing new".
Overall it seemed to depend on fan's expectations.
Some fans found the making of EOT documentary film that proceeded it interesting with "insightful interviews with Jerry Schillling and Andrew Solt" while other were let down as "There was no Unseen footage as promised" and only general interviews.
As most Elvis fans realise there is a wealth of stunning EOT material that has not been officially released and this was the perfect place for it.
The comment that all fans agree on was that the sound of the film was low-level and disappointing compared to the great sound of the documentary that was shown first.
The best comment has to be "How nice to see LIVE ELVIS Elvis on the big screen and with an appreciative crowd as it doesn't happen that often nowadays".

'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me' New CD: Coming soon is the second volume of Straight Arrow's special mini-series focusing on "two-mic ambience live recordings": 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me' (SA/SP 2010-02-02). This CD will feature the Wednesday, February 21, 1973 Dinner Show, which is previously uncirculated -- no known audience or soundboard recording has surfaced in over 37 years! The concert was taped by the same fan, using the same equipment and settings, who captured the February 15, 1973 Dinner Show heard on our first volume, "Faded Love." This means that the sound quality is just as good. However, this time around there is huge difference in Elvis' performance. Whereas "FADED LOVE" gave the listener an unusual set, as Presley was under the weather and left the stage for a stretch, here he is fully recovered and vocally strong.
"You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" features a fairly standard repertoire for the period, but the majority of the material is performed very well. Among the highlights is a knockout performance of "What
Now My Love," from false start to reprise! Other impressive numbers include "I'm Leavin'" and "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me."
As with Volume 1, this release will be presented in a cool-looking digipak, with relevant information and rare photos. If you enjoyed "FADED LOVE", you will love this one, too. To be released early August.

New Website features vintage radio broadcasts August 1977: August 16th is the 33rd anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley.
The new site www.ElvisDeathRevisited features vintage radio broadcasts from those three days in August when we interviewed friends and family members who saw him just before he died.  And you'll hear live interviews with fans at the gates of Graceland.
These rare broadcasts transport Elvis fans into the “moment” as you feel the emotions experienced the day the King of Rock died.
These rare interviews have been locked away since 1977 and only posted them on the internet this year when the new website was launched and dedicated to the memory of Elvis. The site includes footage from Elvis' final concert in Indianapolis and an interview with Ginger Alden.

'The Essence Of Energy' New CD: Rainbow Record's next release will be called The Essence Of Energy and features the complete performance of Thursday, November 12, 1970 at the Coliseum in Seattle, Washington.
The “typical” Elvis Presley of 1970 is hard to describe. With Elvis' desire to go not only back to live performing but to go back on tour, Col Parker organized a short 8 show tour as a try out.
A new situation for the entourage was there - new equipment had to be tested and Jerry Weintraub and Management 3 were hired to organize and support the ELVIS PRESLEY Show. The demand for Presley was there and eight sold out shows! But not everything was perfectly organized in the beginning and to avoid the risk to have problems on a big tour, Parker decided to do another small tour in November 1970. In Seattle, where Elvis shot a motion picture 8 years earlier, the Coliseum hosted the King of Rock 'n' Roll on November 12, 1970.

Marty Lacker to get Beale Street Blues Note Honor: It was announced today that Marty Lacker is among the honorees to receive a Beale Street Blues Note, the equivalent of a Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star.
Lacker started his entertainment career in radio in 1957 and a few years later his former high schoolmate, Elvis Presley, asked Marty to work for him.  Marty was with and close to Elvis for 20 years and served as his right hand man for a number of years as well as being his Co-Best Man at his wedding.
However, it was not really his association with Elvis that has brought this honor to him but his years after leaving Presley's payroll to become a vital part of the Memphis and National Music Industry.  In 1967 Lacker started Pepper Records at which time he discovered Rita Coolidge and produced her first couple of hits for her.  While at Pepper he also produced some young R&B groups with the help and songs of his close friends Isaac Hayes and David Porter.
Shortly after, Lacker was solely responsible for Elvis to return to Memphis to record for the first time in 14 years when Lacker convinced Elvis to record with Chips Moman and his American Studios Rhythm section.  resulting in "Suspicious Minds" and "In The Ghetto' as well as other hits.  It was a few months after that Moman asked Lacker to run American Studios for him which he did for a couple of years before opening his own company,Mempro,Inc. serving the entire Music Industry..  While at American, Lacker became one of the leaders of the Memphis Music Industry
and produced, directed and wrote three highly successful Memphis Music Awards Shows featuring many of the big named artists who recorded in Memphis at the time as well as attended by most of the executives of the national music industry.
Lacker also co-founded the Memphis Chapter Of NARAS (Grammys), as well as founded the original Memphis & Shelby County Music Commission,(1972) and was its first Chairman. He also was Chairman of Memphis Music,Inc., the official organization of the entire Memphis Music Industry.
It is for those accomplishments and others that Lacker was named today, July 29,2010 as one of the honorees to have his name embedded on a Blues Note in the sidewalk of world famous Beale Street in Memphis.  The dedication ceremony date will be announced in the near future.

‘The ELVIS Story’ concert this SATURDAY at the Capitol Arts Center: Growing up, Ronnie McDowell remembers sitting for hours listening to records his sister brought home, yet he was amazed when he first heard Elvis Presley. The year was 1954.
“I thought to myself, ‘what is this, and who is this?’ ” he said.
McDowell will join a list of legends - including The Stamps Quartet; D.J. Fontana, Elvis’ drummer; Millie Kirkham; and Ray Walker of the Jordanaires - to perform Saturday at the Capitol Arts Center Bowling Green, Kentucky for a tribute deemed “The ELVIS Story.”
Kicking off the tribute, there will be two shows at 3pm. and 8 p.m. Saturday.
“I loved Elvis’ music,” McDowell said. “And I love to perform the songs he did in 1954, ’55 and ’56. I’m still having fun with it.
“His music speaks to the masses. Even he didn’t realize how great of a voice he had.” McDowell (right with the Jordanaires) said as he grew up, he got into the music business, writing the song “The King is Gone,” following the death of Elvis in 1977. The song, released on an independent label, sold more than 5 million copies. McDowell was 27.
“I was told by Dot, who worked in Randy’s Record Shop in Tennessee, it was the biggest selling single out of the store,” he said.
Sounding like Elvis, and looking like him too, McDowell was offered a role as Elvis in a movie that featured Kurt Russell after doing American Bandstand with Dick Clark. He has done 12 movies since then.
Elvis and Walker, however, were more silent friends, as Walker put it.
“When Elvis looked at you ... he had a calming about him,” he said. “He respected everyone in their own space, and he had the greatest sense of music. He sang the truth of the song. That’s why people still relate to him. They felt that in his singing.”
Ray Walker has been the bass singer for the Jordanaires since June 1, 1958, and has sung with and worked with many artists, including country artists Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline and, of course, Elvis.
Elvis used the Jordanaires on nearly every one of his recording sessions from 1956 for the next 14 years.
“When you met Elvis, you knew it was OK to be who you are,” he said.

Elvis birthplace names architect for expansion: A Memphis, Tenn., architecture company will design new attractions at the Elvis Presley Birthplace. Haizlip Studio also has offices in Asheville, N.C.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports that the $5.5 million birthplace expansion project includes a theater with a cafe, reception area and an amphitheater.
Dick Guyton, executive director of Elvis Presley Birthplace, says Haizlip Studio joins the project design team of Design 500 Inc. and Richie Smith Associates, a landscape architectural firm.
The new multipurpose theater and event space is the first of several expansions to the birthplace. Completion of Phase One, which includes the theater, is targeted for late 2011.

'Elvis Forever - Tribute' in London's Hyde Park Announced: The 75th birthday of Elvis Presley will be celebrated this summer as part of BBC Radio 2’s commitment to offering a scorching summer of stellar live music performances. In the year that the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll would have turned 75, Radio 2 will bring together some of the biggest names in pop and rock music to perform his best loved and most popular songs as part of Elvis Forever, a concert to be held in London’s Hyde Park on Sunday 12 September 2010, hosted by Radio 2 breakfast show presenter Chris Evans.
Radio 2 Breakfast Show host Chris Evans says: “As the Radio 2 audience knows, I am a huge Elvis fan and it’s an honour to host such a celebration of the enduring appeal of his music.”
The proceedings will be led by Chris plus other guest presenters
who are all great fans of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, culminating in a spectacular firework finale. The line-up of stars performing at Elvis Forever will be announced shortly.
This thrilling exclusive concert will be broadcast live on Radio 2, and in the following week listeners will also be able to hear highlights across the station’s daytime shows.

RIAA Presentation at Graceland: During Conversations on Elvis, Session Two on Saturday, August 14 at 1:00 p.m., representatives from Sony will make a special RIAA Presentation. - Another one for the trophy room!
On this day Michael Lollar, Commercial Appeal writer plus former mayor Bill Morris and Elvis' longtime friend Joe Esposito will be present to share stories about their experiences with Elvis. The event, hosted by Tom Brown, Vice President of Original Productions for TCM, will be a great way to find out more about Elvis’ hometown and what made his relationship with Memphis so powerful. Included will be rarely seen video and photos from the Graceland and Commercial Appeal archives.

Elvis' Piano Could Fetch $1 Million at Auction: Elvis Presley's white grand piano and his 1955 contract with RCA Records are going up for auction in Memphis next month, with the piano expected to fetch more than $1 million, auctioneers said on Monday.
The purchase agreement for the King of Rock 'n' Roll's Graceland mansion, and a letter Presley wrote in 1955 to his then girlfriend shortly after entering the U.S. army, are also among the highlights of the 270-lot Elvis Memorabilia auction on August14.
The white Knabe piano was owned and played by Presley for a decade. The singer bought it in 1957 from the Ellis auditorium in Memphis where it had been played by visiting gospel performers for more than 20 years.
The piano was placed in Graceland's music room until 1969.
Doug Norwine, director of music & entertainment at Heritage Auctions said the piano was "an emotionally-charged prized possession of the King himself."
The singer's personal services contract with RCA Records, signed by Presley, his father and his manager Colonel Tom Parker, is expected to fetch more than $150,000.
The 1957 purchase agreement for Graceland is expected to fetch $35,000, and Presley's four-page handwritten letter to sweetheart Anita Wood in 1958 has an estimate of $75,000. (see news item and picture below)
Other items include Presley's personal address and phone book, a pair of custom gold-framed sunglasses and his gun.
Presley died in 1977 at the age of 42 from heart problems after taking a cocktail of prescription drugs. Demand for his memorabilia remains strong with a single lock of his hair selling for $18,300 at auction last year.

Elvis impersonator recreates The King's famous concerts at Las Vegas Hilton: This past weekend at the Las Vegas Hilton, Elvis Presley fans relived a moment in history when Elvis tribute artist, Shawn Klush, performed on the same stage as Elvis in the "That's The Way It Was" concert. Klush, who was recently named Graceland's "Official Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist" recreated the Elvis "Showroom" concerts that were documented in the 1970 film, "That's The Way It Is."
Performing with members of Presley's original band from the 1970s including The Imperials and the Sweet Inspirations, as well as Elvis' drummer from 1954-68, DJ Fontana, Klush brought the King back to life 40 years after the beginning of Elvis Presley's reign as The King of Las Vegas.
Presley first performed at the International Hotel (which became the Hilton in 1971) in Las Vegas in 1969, to sold-out crowds in the intimate 2,000 seat theater, and kept breaking attendance records in subsequent years as up to
4,100 ticketholders were squeezed into the Showroom including standing room only patrons. Elvis would perform two months each year for the next seven years performing two shows a night. He became the biggest draw in Vegas at the time, with Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin ranking a distant second behind him.
The "That's The Way It Was" concert was centered around the "Heart of the King" fan festival held at the Las Vegas Hilton from July 14-17. As part of the festivities, fans were treated to a personal tour of the hotel by Elvis Presley's personal bodyguard and friend, Joe Esposito, which included the Showroom onstage, backstage and Elvis' private penthouse suite.

Elvis documentary re-released on dvd: A documentary called "The True Story Of Elvis Presley", which was originally released in 1999, will soon be re-released on dvd (region code 2) in UK by ICM Vision.

Music legend Tom Jones talks about Elvis: This week Tom Jones is to release a stunning collection of gospel, traditional and spiritual songs which critics are already hailing as one of his finest works. And the veteran sex bomb, who still has adoring female fans chucking their underwear on stage, says he is thrilled to be back making waves at an age when other stars are hanging up their microphones.
Elvis and I would sing gospel songs around the piano
When Sir Tom recorded songs for his new album Praise And Blame, the memories of his close friendship with buddy Elvis Presley came flooding back.
He revealed it was the King who first told him to sing gospel after they did a duet together in late night music sessions in his Las Vegas hotel suite in the 1970s.
"We'd stand around the piano and sing gospel songs together.
"Elvis said: 'Do they sing gospel in Wales?' I said 'yes but they are called hymns'. So Elvis replied: 'Why don't you record some of them?'
"I told him ... one day I will."
The superstar singers first met in 1965 when the Jones-boyo was invited on to the set of Elvis' movie Paradise Hawaiian Style. They became instant friends and remained so until the King's death in 1977.
Tom said: "It was my first year in the business. Elvis knew my records and wanted to meet me. I was very nervous.
"I walked into Paramount Studios in Hollywood and he waved across. I thought at first he was waving to somebody else. He walked over and told me how much he loved my voice. Elvis said: 'How the hell can you sing like that?'
"I said: 'Well, you're partly to blame. I listened to your records when I was a teenager'.
"Elvis was a great guy, very down to earth. I still miss him."
But the Welsh music legend reckons Elvis, who would have been 75 this year, would not still be recording.
He said: "Elvis loved being Elvis. I don't think he'd like growing old.
"He was a great looking guy and it was sad when he put on weight towards the end. That really bothered him.
"He felt life had caught up with him. He was messed up."

Myrna Smith Benefit Concert: The Back In Memphis concert (Elvis Unlimited) will be a benefit concert for Myrna Smith of The Sweet Inspirations.

Myrna has suffered a stroke and is on dialysis. She will need long term care. Myrna has many medical bills and many more medical expenses are ahead due to severity of her condition.

Alleged Elvis embalming tools removed from auction: An array of surgical and other instruments allegedly used in the 1977 embalming of Elvis Presley was withdrawn Thursday from a planned auction after Memphis Funeral Home objected to the auction of property taken without the funeral home's consent.

Funeral home president E.C. Daves said the instruments were taken by an embalmer who kept them for more than 30 years before offering them for sale through Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago. The auction is scheduled Aug. 12 and the Elvis items were in two lots valued by the auction house at $8,000 and $6,000.

Daves said the authenticity of the items still is in question. He said the retired embalmer, in his 80s, claimed to have taken the items after Presley's embalming the night of Aug. 16, 1977. But Daves said another employee told him that those instruments had been sterilized and were used again.

"There's no way to tell whether (the auction items) are authentic," he said.

Daves said the retired embalmer and his son, who handled negotiations with the auction house, agreed to withdraw the items. He said the funeral home plans no legal reprisals if the items are returned.

Auction house owner Leslie Hindman was less final. In an e-mail, she said, "We are in discussions with all parties."

Daves said the funeral home is awaiting word from the Elvis Presley estate on its preferences. The items could be donated to a funeral history museum in Houston.

"Or we could destroy them," Daves said. "We're not going to do anything until the Presley estate agrees with it."

Meditation Garden Stained Glass Windows: Here's an opportunity to own a one of a kind piece of Elvis memorabilia and history.  A Memphian, Mike Witt, who buys older houses and renovates them purchased the house owned by my sister and brother in law in Germantown, a Memphis suburb.  As most fans know my brother in law designed and built the Graceland Meditation Garden where Elvis has been laid to rest.  The beautiful stain glass windows in the Garden wall are companion pieces to four other windows my brother in law purchased from Spain which he installed in his house when he was building it around the same time he built the Garden.  Mike Witt removed the windows from the house during his renovation and now wants to offer them for sale to some lucky Elvis fan.  These are authentic items for which I attest to as I was the one who was the conduit between Elvis and my brother in law in building the Garden and know every detail and decision that was made while building it.

Elvis Presley statue, found in cemetery!: Ever since Elvis Presley's death 33 years ago, people have breathlessly reported Elvis sightings here, there and everywhere. On Tuesday morning, he was spotted again, hanging out in a cemetery with a pair of angels.
As it turned out, it was a fiberglass Elvis, a 6-foot-tall statue that had gone missing a couple of weeks ago from the roof of a diner on Pulaski Highway in Baltimore County, much to the consternation of the restaurant's owners and regular customers.
When found, the white-suited Elvis, his coiffure intact but his microphone gone, was propped between two angelic statues in the Gardens of Faith Cemetery, a few miles north of Rosedale's Happy Day Diner, whose roof he had graced for a decade.
Whether or not the real Elvis is communing with angels, his earthly appearance in the cemetery's Garden of Wisdom was a brief one, according to the man who found him, George Kropkowski, who lives nearby. The 6-foot fiberglass figure is slightly damaged, but owners will try to repair it. (News, Source;SanjaM)

'Johnny B. Goode' Missing from new 'On Tour' DVD: According to fans who have already got a copy of the new DVD of  'On Tour', the sensational opening video sequence where Elvis sings 'Johnny B. Goode' has been retained BUT the song 'Johnny B. Goode' has been removed and replaced with 'Teddy Bear'/'Don't Be Cruel' due to copyright problems. The same 'Teddy Bear'/'Don't Be Cruel' is heard later in the movie.
It seem incredible that after 38 years the 'On Tour' re-release is still not the real deal.

Elvis' signature hip roll, considered too risque for prime time TV, prompted the famous order (to CBS cameramen of the Ed Sullivan Show) to photograph the King from the waist up.

"Blue Hawaii" was the first of his beach-bod-bearing roles and was perhaps the biggest commercial success of his film career. Sure, the story is kind of lame -- Presley's Chad returns from the Army and rebels against his father, refusing to go to work at dad's [eye roll here] ... pineapple business.
But the musical comedy is a time capsule of a simpler era, brilliantly lit by sunny nostalgia, and it amounts to a cheesy but fun bit of film. It also has some beautiful beach scenery for its time and includes 14 songs that helped make the soundtrack a Billboard chart topper, including "Can't Help Falling In Love." Angela Lansbury co-stars in an over-the-top role as Elvis' mother.

Riley Keough and Kylie Minogue to star in new movie: Kylie Minogue the Aussie actress has signed up to play a heavily tattooed lesbian in new movie "Jack and Diane". The flick will also star Juno Temple and Elvis Presley’s granddaughter, Riley Keough, as teen lovers. Jack and Diane tells the story of two teenage girls who meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously.
"Kylie does have one love scene where she kisses a girl," a source told the New York Post. Her fans will be surprised to see her in this role, but her performance is good." Kylie who shot to fame in the Australian soap Neighbours has not appeared in a movie since 2001’s Moulin Rouge.
Riley Keough recently appeared in the 2010 successful coming-of-age biopic about '70s teenage band "The Runaways." She is also to appear in a staring role in the 2011 film 'The Good Doctor' that is still in post-production.

Greil Marcus Interview: In many ways Elvis Presley is bigger now than he was in the last years of his life. Over 30 years after his death Elvis' cultural impact is still ever-present. Greil Marcus is a renown American author, music journalist and cultural critic. An editor and writer for Rolling Stone magazine his stunning 1975 book 'Mystery Train: Images of America in Rock 'n' Roll Music' was a major publication which "re-defined the parameters of rock music criticism". Hank Cochran, Country Music Legend,  dies aged 74: Singer/songwriter Hank Cochran lost his battle with cancer at the age of 74. A country music legend, Cochran penned hits like "I Fall to Pieces" "That's All That Matters To Me", and George Strait's "Ocean Front Property".
He died at his home in Tennessee on Thursday, July 15 after a final singalong on Wednesday night, July 14 with pals Billy Ray Cyrus and Jamey Johnson, who visited the ailing songwriter. Cochran landed his big break as a songwriter in the early 1960s when Ray Price hired him. Cochran then brought pal Willie Nelson onboard.

To Elvis fans he is best known as the composer of the song "Make the World Go Away" which Elvis recorded for his album 'Elvis Country' in June 1970. Elvis would also go on to perform the song on stage in the early 1970's.

Elvis' 1956 Mystery Kisser Found! Former Memphis radio engineer Ron Brandon believes that he has finally found the famous 1956 'Elvis Mystery Kisser'. In 1956 it was Ron Brandon who recorded the famous Mississippi-Alabama Fair concert and so was well aware of the iconic photographs of Alfred Wertheimer including the ones taken in June 1956 at an Elvis concert in Richmond, Virginia. There were over forty of the photos of Elvis many of them featuring an attractive young lady.  One or two of these photographs, in particular, have become quite famous.. photos of Elvis apparently attempting to kiss the young lady.
In 2010, earlier this year Brandon "stumbled upon" the woman who claimed to be the mystery kisser in the photos. Having lived in Richmond at one time, Brandon was intrigued enough follow through with a full interview - and was convinced without any reservation whatever, that she is the mystery kisser.

FTD Elvis Releases planned for 2010: FTD have announced the upcoming releases planned for 2010. Last week, some of the new releases were already announced, prior to the official message from FTD. To stop further speculation and rumours these are the releases that are planned by FTD for 2010 at this stage:
1. King Creole, The Music (book + CD, Aug 8 2010)
'King Creole - The Music' is a 200-page book with images exclusively designed to complement the music from the film. It consists of two main sections; the recording sessions on January 16, 1958 and song scenes from the filming of the movie (including behind-the scenes shots). The images are classic and well-known shots with the majority being previously unpublished and taken by the original still photographers on the set (no freeze-frames). The accompanying CD consists of the masters and the well-known alternative masters (no unreleased session reels have been found). As always, the music has been re-mastered. 2. Good Times: The Outtakes (2 LP Vinyl release, Aug 8 2010)

3. Boston Garden (no official title, 5" CD, Sep 14 2010)
FTD will release the soundboard of the November 10, 1971 Boston Garden Show (previously released on bootleg) as this is the only available show from the early tours of the seventies. We believe that this is of such historical importance, that it should be available to everyone. This will be a 5" digi-pack with a photo booklet.

4. Elvis: Fool (2CD 7" CD, Sep 14 2010)

Myrna Smith Health update: Elvis super-fan Carole Drexler spent several hours with Myrna in hospital last monday, she has told EIN. >> Myrna was more alert than the week before, but still very weak. Elvis fans are the best - so many of you have sent cards, notes & letters & Myrna asked me if I would thank everyone & tell you how much she appreciates it. Another friend of Myrna's was there when I visited & we read all the wonderful cards & letters to Myrna & she looked at all of them. There were times when Myrna teared up, I don't think she knew so many people love her. I took string with me & strung it in lines across the walls & hung the cards on the string.
The dialyses is hard on Myrna & she is weak. Myrna needs all the support & encouragement we can give her. I know it's a lot to ask, but please keep the cards & notes coming, & really, really important, please keep Myrna in your prayers. Estelle from the Sweet Inspirations asked me to also pass on her thanks to everyone for the love & prayers for Myrna.

‘Heart of the King’ EP Fans’ VEGAS Festival July 14-17: History will repeat itself THIS WEEK at the Las Vegas Hilton! Priscilla Shares Her Love of Horses: Breyer Animal Creations has entered into a license to launch their Elvis Presley® Collection of the horses of Graceland. The new collectible will be showcased at BreyerFest which takes place July 23-25, 2010 in Lexington, KY at the Kentucky Horse Park along with a special appearance by Priscilla Presley. 2010 is the 21st year for the annual model horse collector’s festival and horse fair which features award-winning equine entertainment and fun for the whole family.

Bill Porter, Elvis' legendary Nashville engineer, passed away: Bill Porter who was all-important in shaping and recording the 'Nashville sound' passed away on July 7.  Bill Porter was an American sound engineer who recorded many stars in Nashville in their great creative periods including Chet Atkins, The Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison as well as Elvis Presley from the late 1950s through the 1970s. In one week of 1960, his recordings accounted for 15 of Billboard Magazine's "Top 100," a feat none have matched.
Bill Porter also continued as mixing engineer for Elvis' live concerts from 1970 until the singer's death in 1977. For his achievements in improving recording studio practices, Porter was inducted into the TEC Awards Hall of Fame in 1992.
Porter's work with Elvis in the studio and on tour was exemplary.

'Elvis Tribute Artist World Cup' in Wales: On 4 July 2010 the first ever Elvis Tribute Artist World Cup took place in the St David's Concert Hall, Cardiff, Wales. Twelve tribute acts from as far afield as Australia and South Africa battled it out to be crowned the best Elvis Presley impersonator in the world. Johnny Lee Memphis (right) from Stirling in Scotland, beat off some stiff competition to take the crown at the Elvis World Cup in Cardiff. Twelve National Qualifiers competed for the coveted crown, and World Cup Final Week saw the National Champions hosted by towns throughout Wales.

'The King In Queen City' new Import CD: Management 3 productions will release a new CD with 12-page booklet called 'The King In Queen City'. The CD features  the April 29th, 1973 Afternoon Show from Seattle, Washington that was previously released on bootleg, but Management 3 state that this recording is of better quality and more complete.

'Elvis In Finland Vol.2' New CD; Dozens of songs of Elvis Presley’s repertoire have been recorded in Finland from the beginning of the 60’s and up ‘till now – both in Finnish and in English. This obviously includes many sides of Elvis’s versatile recording career: rock tunes, ballads, country and movie songs.
The new collection "Elvis in Finland 2" starts with a version of That’s All Right, Mama (Kaikki hyvin mama) by a legendary singer Rauli Somerjoki. This song comes from Elvis’s first and Rauli’s last recording session. Probably the most well-known Elvis movie songs in Finland, Flaming Star (titled Kohtalon tähti) and The Walls Have Ears (Seinillä on korvat) are both naturally included on this cd. Early Finnish rock’n’rollers, like Jussi Raittinen, Rock Jerry and Pekka Loukiala, have their own versions on this collection too.
There are also a couple of rarities on the collection. One of them is Summer Kisses, Winter Tears (Kesän suukot talvi vei) which is the only single release by a singer called Richard. Some fine arrangements can be found as well: an a cappella group Veeti And the Velvets delivers a very nice version of King Creole and the late Tapio Heinonen sings beautifully his version of Mary in the Morning (Kaunein aamuisin).

Elvis to get a "European Star"; Jerry Schilling will unveil the Elvis On Tour star at the movie theater 'Utopolis' in Turnhout, Belgium where the European Premiere of the digitally remastered 'On Tour' takes place on August 15th. This will be the First Elvis walk of fame star in Europe! Ticket holders can attend this special ceremony for no additional charge. After the unveiling of the Elvis Movie Star, Jerry Schilling will introduce the new film. Jerry was a long-time friend of Elvis and still lives in the house that The King gave him as a present.  7-foot Elvis taken from diner roof: Thirty Three years after his death ELVIS is still a wanted man! The owners of a Maryland restaurant said someone stole a 7-foot Elvis Presley statue that had been bolted to the roof of the diner since 2001.
Maria and Dimitrios Pigiaditis, owners of the Happy Day Diner in Rosedale, said security-camera footage shows a white van pulling up to the restaurant Wednesday night, when they believe the fiberglass statue was taken, The Baltimore Sun reported Tuesday.
The owners said the thieves apparently broke the statue from the roof, leaving part of Elvis' feet bolted in place.
Maria Pigiaditis said the previous owner of the restaurant purchased the statue of the King from an antique store in 2001 for $1,500.
Baltimore County Police are investigating the theft.

"Bubba Ho-tep" Sequel still in Pre Production: Elvis and monsters make for an unlikely pair, but fans of the Bruce Campbell-starring "Bubba Ho-tep" (right) are already well aware of how well that combination actually works. Those same fans have anxiously anticipated "Bubba Nosferatu," the film's vampire-centric sequel, ever since "Ho-tep's" release. But the project has experienced numerous setbacks and delays, not the least of which is Campbell's departure as Elvis.
In the upsides department, Ron Perlman was mentioned as a possible replacement for Campbell in 2008, while award winning actor actor Paul Giamatti (Sideways, John Adams) is still set to co-star as Colonel Tom Parker. Giamatti remains as enthusiastic about the project as ever, stating that "Nosferatu" will definitely get off the ground -- eventually.
"We've been trying to make that for two, three years, and we're going to get it done at some point," said Giamatti, "I'm going to break my spine in half if I have to to get that thing done."
Giamatti is clearly a big fan of the creative work that's gone into "Nosferatu," saying that the real trouble lies in finding investors for the film.
"I think it's just the atmosphere of movies right now, smaller movies. Nobody has the balls to make a cheap movie, It's Avatar or nothing. Everybody's terrified of doing anything else except that kind of thing. So that movie is deemed way too bizarre and outside the box right now. Which is stupid, because there's an audience for that movie, totally."
Even if financing is currently hard to come by, Giamatti is convinced that "Nosferatu" will eventually get made.
"We've been trying so hard and we've had so many near-misses," he continued. "It's almost come together like 15 freaking times and then it falls apart. At some point we're going to get that done because it's a great script. I think 'Bubba Ho-tep' is just a f---ing great movie, I really do. We'll make this sequel somehow."

2010 Tupelo Elvis Fest expected to make more than $80K: The 2010 Tupelo Elvis Presley Festival is expected to make between $80,000 and $90,000, according to festival organizers.
The Tupelo Elvis Presley Festival last month ended with an old-time tent gospel singing, much like one Elvis might've attended as a child. The Martins, The Landmarks, Tupelo-Lee County Diversity Choir and the Foyer Boyz performed on the grounds of the Elvis Presley birthplace, underneath a huge tent. Attendees used Elvis fans to beat the heat.
Though gospel music was the event's focus, The King of Rock 'n' Roll was invoked a few times.
Festival director Debbie Brangenberg said the 2010 festival was a success.
"It was an outstanding weekend," she said. "I saw lots of smiles on people's faces," she said. "And that's what makes us do what we do."
The Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association, treasurer John Avila said the numbers aren’t completely finalized but net profit is expected to come in around $89,000. He said the numbers are a tad below last year’s figures, but he attributed the difference to a 22 percent increase in expenses this year. “Overall, we feel it was a pretty successful festival,” Avila said.

'Good Times' next FTD Vinyl release: ElvisUnlimited reports that FTD's next VINYL release following on from the successful Blue Hawaii and Standing Room Only vinyl releases will be a new version of 'Good Times'. This will be released in August, 2010 after the new FTD package 'King Creole; The Music' an audiovisual documentary by Pål Granlund and Ernst Jorgensen.

Historic piece of Elvis/Beatles memorabilia - The final bidding sprint to the finish-line!: A unique signed photo by all four Beatles on the day John Lennon said that "Meeting Elvis was the greatest night of my life". With five hours left, the bidding already stands at US $1,525 - this one will be worth watching for the final bidding race to the line.
In August, 1965 at Elvis' Bel Air, California house Marty Lacker was present at the historical first and only meeting between Elvis and the four Beatles.  It was an historical event in music history. 
The next afternoon the Beatles were overjoyed to see them and John in particular took Marty aside and told him the night before was at the time, the greatest night in his life and that "Elvis was the one person they wanted to meet in the U.S."  When the Mafia was about to leave, The Beatles gathered at a table and all four Beatles signed a picture of them to Marty.
Marty has kept that picture for the last 45 years. He had it laminated many years ago intending to keep it forever and it is in pristine condition because of it, just as it was the afternoon he received.

Graceland surrounds finally being revamped: The City of Memphis is finally keeping good on its promise to spruce up "The King's" boulevard. City council chairman Harold Collins said city engineers are working on blueprints to revamp Elvis Presley Boulevard.
Graceland executives decided back in 2006, the mansion and surrounding area needed a makeover. They estimated it would cost $250M, but the city needed convincing. Now, the councilman who oversees that Whitehaven district said all of his colleagues are on board.
No signs properly point towards the Elvis Presley mansion, a complaint shared by many who travel this popular strip in the city's Whitehaven neighborhood. City councilman Harold Collins, who represents the district, said get ready for a facelift.
"This is the gateway to Elvis Presley's mansion, but also the gateway to a great neighborhood and a great community and so at the end of the day, we're going to make sure it reflects that," said Collins.
Collins said, "We finally got the funding to do it, we finally got it prioritized, and as you can see, it's something that's well needed."
The total cost for the renovations is expected to cost $46.6M. The enhancements will improve the utility wiring and poles, streets, and sidewalks. Collins said the area will also be lined with trees and streetlights.
"We know that Graceland Enterprises is about ready to make a move, and so we want to be ready," said Collins.
Since 2006, executives at Graceland have talked about revamping the mansion and the area surrounding it. They were expected to spend $250M. Right now, EPE isn't saying much about the project or its progress.
Collins expects the project to take anywhere from 2 to 3 years before it is entirely complete.

Newly - Discovered Photos of Elvis at Graceland: Every day is a discovery at Elvis Presley’s Graceland in Memphis, and never has that been more true than when the negatives for three never before seen photos of Elvis were uncovered this summer in a collection of papers found in the Graceland office of Elvis’ father, Vernon Presley.
The newly-discovered photos show a twenty-two year old Elvis at the gates of Graceland in 1957 shortly after he purchased the mansion and the now famous gates were installed as an added security measure. The three rare photos have never been published, although a 4th photo from the same series has appeared on a limited basis in Elvis focused publications. Elvis is photographed just inside the gates signing autographs as a crowd of adoring fans seeks his autograph. A number of fans are even pictured on top of the famous fieldstone wall and brick columns that surround Elvis’ Memphis estate, appearing as if they are about to rush over the wall to greet Elvis. At the time, Elvis was celebrating an eight week run at #1 on the charts with the hit tune, “All Shook Up.”
As part of Elvis’ 75th Birthday year-long celebration that leads up to Elvis Week 2010, the photos will go on display in the Elvis Lives Exhibit at Graceland beginning July 1st through the end of Elvis Week on August 16th.

Historic piece of Elvis/Beatles memorabilia listed on eBay; A unique signed photo by all four Beatles on the day John Lennon said that "Meeting Elvis was the greatest night of my life".
In August, 1965 at Elvis' Bel Air, California house Marty Lacker was present at the historical first and only meeting between Elvis and the four Beatles.  It was an historical event in music history.  They talked and jammed and they all had a great time. Upon leaving, The Beatles, particularly John and Paul, invited Elvis and The Memphis Mafia to visit them at the house they were staying at in the Hollywood Hills the next day.  The Beatles were in town to perform at the Universal Amphitheater the next night.  Elvis decided not to go but Marty and three other Memphis Mafia took them up on their invitation.
The next afternoon the Beatles were overjoyed to see them and John in particular took Marty aside and told him the night before was at the time, the greatest night in his life. Elvis was the one person they wanted to meet in the U.S..  They sat around and talked including Joan Baez who was visiting George.  When the Mafia was about to leave, The Beatles gathered at a table and all four signed a picture of them to Marty.
Marty has kept that picture for the last 45 years. He had it laminated many years ago intending to keep it forever and it is in pristine condition because of it,just as it was the afternoon he received.
Marty Lacker is selling this precious possession as he is raising money for a family project.

"Tell Me Pretty Baby" now a book!: Andrew Jackson and Frederick Allen wrote the book Without The King's Consent - Tell Me Pretty Baby. It's about supposedly the first record Elvis made before going to Sun in 1954.

Here is some background information, taken from answers.com:

My information on this particular recording is that it was claimed to be Elvis' first ever recording, supposedly made at Audio Recorders in Phoenix, Arizona in 1954. It was released in 1978 on the Elvis Classic label (EC-5478), lasted 2 minutes 12 seconds, with writing credit going to Andrew (Lee) Jackson, production by Pete Falco, and music publishing by Sheri-Kay Publishers/Golgotha BMI. It was distributed by Cin/Kay Records Distributors of Nashville, Tn.

In an affidavit signed by Pete Falco on July 6th 1978, he stated that he paid Elvis $15 to record "Tell Me Pretty Baby" with his group, the Red Dots. Elvis' father, Vernon Presley contested the song's authenticity, stating that Elvis was never in Phoenix in 1954 and never recorded for any company before Sun Records.
Apparently a singer by the name of Michael Conley later admitted making the fake recording, although his manager, Hal Freeman, stated that Conley lied. Unknown or "lost" recordings by Elvis are extremely rare. If you have new information that the recording of "Tell Me Pretty Baby" was genuine, then I'm sure that the entire Elvis world will be absolutely delighted. This book is available in both softcover and hardback editions.

EIN Comment: EIN was in Memphis in 1986 and bought copies of this recording for US$2.00 each. It was very obvious on listening to the single that the singer was DEFINITELY not Elvis Aaron Presley!

New memoir with Elvis twist: EIN received this interesting message from Pepper Ritter:

Hi, I have owned a computer for 5 years and only use it to write, play games and do emails. I’m a young senior citizen (75) and have finally  ventured out in computer space hoping to find certain books written about Elvis, but haven’t located them yet. Somehow, I found your site.

I read some and am amazed and disappointed that people are actually arguing with each other about Elvis. In fact some are downright hurtful. I don’t mean to take up too much of your time….So here’s the thing. I have just completed a book at the request of  my daughter. She wanted me to write the story of my life for my grandchildren. The Title of my book is What I Remember Before I Forget. It is in the Edit stage, and then It will be ready to bind. My oldest grandson has read some of it because I sent my manuscript via email. He is encouraging me to share it….In other words publish it. If I did I imagine there will be those who say I am only making money off of Elvis….Somehow I don’t think he would mind. In any case chapter 35 of my book is about Elvis, and is Titled, Don’t Cry Darlin.

I believe Elvis fans will be shocked. I have kept this story to myself for years…only sharing it with my daughter and grandchildren who were sworn to secrecy. I hesitate to include this chapter, but because of my title it wouldn’t be right to exclude it.  I haven’t checked yet to see how much it’s going to cost to bind copies, but I am on a fixed income so I would be doing this to make money if I decide to put it on the market instead of only giving it to my grandchildren. I know you don’t sell books or encourage anyone to buy books, but what I wonder is this? Is there any way I could put a feeler on your site asking your readers if they would be interested in reading my story if I can get some copies printed.  I have had an interesting life and I am sure they will learn It is an easy and fun read even without my Elvis chapter.

'' There was a man, a lonely man....'' is certainly a line the rock singer had on his mind during those early February winter nights behind Graceland's walls, and he felt Neil Sedaka's song could work very well for him. On this CD you can hear the progress from the very first take through the master take.

The following night Elvis seemed to enjoy himself while recording what would become the title of his very last album. The song Moody Blue had a very modern sound for early 1976, very disco-like and it had a fair amount of air play all over the USA in late 1976 and early 1977.

 
Elvis is clearly having fun recording this number, yet he ignored to include it into his live appearances, excepted for a brief attempt on February 20, 1977 and finally had a go at it the next night for his first and only performance. The excellent sound quality will bring you right into the action that happened in the jungle room when those songs were being recorded. The CD will be presented to you in a standard jewel case, completed with a beautiful 16 page booklet.

Elvis Milton Berle shirt sells for $61,000 at Auction: In the recent Julien's auction a shirt that Elvis wore in 1956 on The Milton Berle Show sold for a little more than $61,000 although the estimate was only $8.000.
And in a intruiging move the apparently endless market for images of superstar Marilyn Monroe also now extends to inside her body. A set of three Monroe Chest X-rays from a 1954 hospital visit sold Sunday for $45,000 at the Hollywood Legends auction at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
In other strange or morbid auction news, someone also spent $1,400 for a tongue depressor that had been used in Elvis Presley's mouth. A disposable patient gown Elvis wore during a doctor's appointment went for just under $2,000.
And, someone has paid about $470 for a medical swab used on Elvis.
Elvis' Personal Copy of the 'Physicians Desk Reference' went for $11,875
And a guitar Johnny Cash owned and played went for $60,000 in the sale by Julien's Auctions in Las Vegas.

The Dead Rich List: So while Michael Jackson makes £168m in the year after his death, who else earns the most from beyond the grave?
Elvis Presley is of course the main earner with over £1bn.
Elvis' estate has generated many millions from music royalties, DVDs, licensing deals and tourism at Graceland since his death in 1977, aged 42.
This year, his estate earned £36million. Presley's Graceland mansion is the second most-visited home in the U.S. after the White House, raising £18million a year. His estate also has a large collection of licensing and merchandise deals. He has appeared posthumously in adverts for everything from Apple's iMac to Lipton's Tea.
There is even a newly-released collectors' edition of a Jailhouse Rock-themed Barbie doll on the market.
His former wife Priscilla has built an extraordinary business from the King's ashes. She and her daughter, Lisa-Marie, are the main beneficiaries of the estate.

Lennon was worth £100million on his death, aged 40, but has since made £200million. The most famous Beatle sang: 'Money can't buy me love.' But his name has earned vast sums since he was shot dead in New York in 1980. He has had 27 singles in the U.S. charts and sold tens of millions of albums. It is believed his widow Yoko Ono has amassed a £300million fortune from his estate. She has authorised Lennon's likeness on everything from coffee cups to sunscreen tubes. Elvis lives - in country star Tim McGraw: Apparently, Elvis lives. Country star Tim McGraw effortlessly conjured the spirit of Elvis Presley Sunday at his recent concert. Although he directly referenced Presley while singing "Things Change," McGraw's evocation of the King of Rock and Roll was largely unintentional.
His serviceable voice pales in comparison to Presley's and he doesn't shake his hips like the icon, but McGraw's headlining performance for an audience of about 14,000 showcased many similarities between the two performers. The parallels begin with rugged good looks and Southern affectations capable of inciting rabid adoration. As McGraw strutted down his stage's extended runway like a bowlegged male model, he was often bombarded by female undergarments.
Not unlike Presley, McGraw enjoys an astoundingly successful genre-crossing recording career characterized by wildly inconsistent artistic quality. Much of the material contained on McGraw's three greatest hits collections more closely resembles emasculated rock-and-roll than traditional country music.
Concerns about authenticity vanished while McGraw was on stage. The 24 selections McGraw and his 10-piece band p erformed in an hour-and-45-minute outing sounded far more vital than on their bland studio versions.
McGraw's natural charisma has led to a film career far more promising than Presley's. Unfortunately, McGraw's sideline as an actor played a role in the most disappointing aspect of Sunday's concert. Over an hour of downtime preceded McGraw's appearance, with some of that time dedicated to filming crowd shots for a forthcoming McGraw movie co-starring Gwyneth Paltrow.
The serious flaw marred an otherwise fine night. Presley died at 42 but McGraw, 43, only recently seems to be hitting his stride. He may resemble Presley, but the rapidly maturing McGraw has become equal parts George Strait and Tom Petty.

Freshly scrubbed Nashville hitmakers Lady Antebellum offered a cover of Petty's "Free Fallin''" during their breezy set. Their attempt to rock was noble, but the group's approach more closely resembles the pleasant pop of Lionel Ritchie. The appreciative audience greeted the group's "Need You Now" with the evening's warmest ovation.
The similarly effervescent sound of Love and Theft opened the show. Their Rascal Flatts-derived country-pop delighted the female-dominated audience. Elvis would have approved.

CKX owner of EP Enterprises signs up new chief executive: CKX Inc, parent company of Elvis Presley Enterprises and of "American Idol" producer 19 Entertainment, has signed its new chief executive, Michael Ferrel, to a contract that runs through 2013.
Ferrel, who succeeded CKX founder and Chief Executive Robert F.X. Sillerman, has signed a deal with a minimum base salary of $1 million per year through February 2013. Details of the accord were disclosed in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing by CKX. Ferrel had been a senior CKX executive several years ago who returned as acting chief executive in May after Sillerman resigned.
Besides 19 Entertainment, CKX also owns the rights to the names, likenesses and images of Elvis Presley and Muhammad Ali, and manages Presley's Graceland.
According to the terms of the contract, should CKX change owners before February 2011 and Ferrel ends up leaving as a result, he would get a lump sum equal to two years of his base salary as well as $250,000 in a non-compete clause. If the ownership of the company changes after February 2011, then his lump sum payment is reduced by 1/24th for each full month that Ferrel has been employed by the company with a cap at his base salary.

Red West still keeps working with 'Goodbye Solo': “When one job ends, another always seems to come along because I’ve done enough so that I can get work,” says Red West (right in 2010), who co-stars in “Goodbye Solo,” an award-winning independent film that aired last night on WEDU.
Red West, a stuntman, actor, songwriter and former member of Elvis Presley's original Memphis Mafia, doesn't worry about finding film roles. They find him.
"When one job ends, another always seems to come along because I've done enough so that I can get work," says West, who co-stars in "Goodbye Solo," an award-winning independent film.
The 74-year-old West, who has homes in Tampa and Memphis, was in town last week to visit his son, a card dealer who relocated here from Biloxi, Miss., to work at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
In "Goodbye Solo," West plays a depressed, tight-lipped loner who appears headed toward suicide when an immigrant cab driver from Senegal (Souleymane Sy Savane) takes an interest in him.
"The story leaves a lot for the audience to figure out," says West who has a deep Southern drawl, a rugged face and red hair with streaks of white. He says his character is willing to pay the cabbie $1,000 for a one-way ride to Blowing Rock, home of the nearly 6,000-foot-high Grandfather Mountain. "Is he going to jump and why?" West says.
West filmed "Goodbye Solo" two years ago and since then worked on Kevin Spacey's independent comedy "The Father of Invention," filmed in New Orleans.
His next role is playing a villain who was a former Elvis bodyguard in "Black Dove," a film about a guitar that reportedly once belonged to Presley. "It turns out to be fake and it's part of switch and swindle scheme," he says.
"I guess I've come full circle with the role because I was his bodyguard," he says.
West is somewhat reluctant to rehash his days with Elvis because he's been asked about it so often. He and his brother Sonny West co-authored "Elvis: What Happened?" published in 1977 – the year Elvis died. (Right, Red West with Elvis in happier times)

Born Robert Gene West, he met Elvis in junior high. West played for the Memphis Tigers high school football team, boxed in the Golden Gloves and helped Elvis fend off some high school bullies.
"He had a lot of black hair combed back in a ducktail and these other guys had crew cuts," West recalls. "They wanted to give him a haircut." This forged a friendship that lasted 20 years.
West appeared in small roles in 16 Elvis movies. He also wrote songs that were recorded by Elvis ("Separate Ways" and "If Everyday Was Like Christmas").

"I had songs recorded by Pat Boone, Ricky Nelson and Johnny Rivers," he says. "I studied music in high school before I got to playing football. And when Elvis hit it big, I thought, 'why heck, I can write a song.' Pat Boone recorded my first song, 'A Thousand Years' on the flip side of 'Moody River' which was a million-seller and that gave me a million seller, too. I had a few good songs."
West also befriended actor Robert Conrad and worked on three of Conrad's TV series "The Wild Wild West" (1965), "Black Sheep Squadron" (1976) and "The Duke" (1979).
"I owe a lot to Bob Conrad because he really got my acting career going," West says. Conrad helped him get work after he, his brother Sonny and another bodyguard Dave Hebler were fired from Elvis' entourage in 1976 by Presley's father, Vernon.
West went on to work in films such as "Road House" with Patrick Swayze and on more than 50 TV series, such as "Hunter," "Magnum, P.I.", "The Fall Guy," "The A-Team" and the recent offbeat series "The Riches."

June 25th - Fans mark anniversary of Michael Jackson Death: Fans across the globe are paying tribute to singer Michael Jackson on the first anniversary of his death at the age of 50. There was an expectation that thousands of people were likely to gather at the Los Angeles cemetery where the musician is at rest, along with members of his family. Jackson's mother Katherine is expected at the family home in Gary, Indiana, where tributes will be paid. A monument has also been dedicated to the star at London's Lyric Theatre.
In New York, the Apollo Theatre - where Jackson and his brothers won a talent contest and were subsequently signed to Motown Records - there will be a commemoration of his life.
In Tokyo (right) flowers have been left in tribute to the late star, where 50 fans spent the night in an exhibition of his possessions. Jackson devotees gathering at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California said they had come to both grieve and celebrate his life.
Early this morning however only 30 fans lined up outside Forest Lawn cemetery to visit Michael Jackson's grave site on the one-year anniversary of his death. Some had been there since 3am, even though the cemetery does not open until 8 a.m.
This was a marked contrast in numbers to similar devoted fan tributes to Elvis Presley, where 50,000 fans have been known to gather at Graceland - Presley's Memphis home - to mourn the singer's passing decades after his death on August 16th 1977. Michael Jackson was previously married to Elvis Presley's daughter Lisa Marie Presley.
In the past year law enforcement officials have spent months focusing on how Jackson died. They removed prescription drugs and medical evidence from the rented Holmby Hills home where he died. The entertainer had a history of drug addiction -- and an early focus was that drugs played a role in his death.

The L.A. County Coroner's office found that Jackson had high levels of a propofol, a strong anaesthetic used during surgery, in his body when he died.
L.A. prosecutors charged his doctor, Conrad Murray, with giving him the drugs. Murray has denied any wrongdoing.
Jackson's children are now living with the pop star's mother, Katherine, at the family's Encino estate.

Dean Martin’s daughter: "Elvis Called My Dad ‘The King of Cool’": You know you’re a lucky kid when Elvis Presley thinks your father is the greatest thing since sliced focaccia. And that’s precisely what Dean Martin’s daughter Deana Martin came to realize one day during the swinging ’60s, as she recounts this week.
 "Elvis adored Dean Martin," Deana (below, as a teen, at a recording session with Dino).
“Elvis was doing a movie at Paramount, and so was my dad. I went to visit dad at the studio and we were standing outside [dad's] dressing room. And in those days, you rode around the studio on bicycles,” Deana - who like her legendary father, is a big-band crooner.
“And Elvis Presley comes riding up on his bicycle. And he gets off the bike when he sees my dad… And he says hi to my father. And dad introduces me,” continues Deana, whose new CD is titled Volare.
“He says, ‘Deana, this is Elvis Presley. And, Elvis, this is my daughter Deana.’
“And Elvis leans down to me and says, ‘Deana, they call me the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. But your dad is the King of Cool.’
“And I thought, Oh my gosh. It must be true. Elvis Presley said so!”

Later in the show, Deana chats about hanging out with her dad in Las Vegas during his Rat Pack days, when Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. would join them after and sometimes during Dino’s performances.
“They’d walk out into the casino and deal. My dad would take over for one of the blackjack dealers. And he would deal.
“And people would come up to the table and go, ‘Are you Dean Martin?’
“And he’d go, ‘Nope. I’m the dealer.’”

Graceland Announces more plans for Elvis Week 2010: EPE have announced new Elvis Week events that include the finals for the international Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, a special screening of “Elvis on Tour” featuring a newly-remastered version of the award-winning concert documentary, fan club events, charity fundraisers, celebrity guests and more.
Elvis Week 2010 will feature several new special events and concerts, including a screening experience of the newly-restored and remastered Blu-ray and DVD versions of “Elvis on Tour” from Warner Bros. (see more below) This exclusive event on Saturday, August 14, will feature a screening of the 1972 Golden Globe Best Documentary winner and a specially-produced, retrospective from Priscilla Presley. In addition, the premiere event at The Orpheum Theatre will also include raw, never-before-seen Elvis tour footage from the Warner Bros. vault as well as montage sequences produced by Academy Award-winner Martin Scorsese, special celebrity guests and a short concert by backup singers who performed in “Elvis on Tour” as part of J.D. Sumner and The Stamps Quartet.
The highly-popular and entertaining Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest will be held again this year with competitors from around the world, including the United States, Canada, Australia and Japan.
A new element to the contest this year includes a semifinal round position that will be filled by a tribute artist selected by fans in an online vote at ElvisWeek.com. Individuals can vote for the Elvis tribute artist that they would like to see compete during the semifinal round of the contest on Thursday, August 12, at The Orpheum Theatre in Memphis. The top ten semifinalists on Thursday will then move on to compete for the top spot of Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist of 2010 on Friday, August 13, during the final round of the competition.
 
"Conversations on Elvis", one of the most popular Elvis Week events, returns this year on Saturday, August 14 with two different sessions featuring many of Elvis’ friends and associates who worked with him during his career. Joining host Tom Brown of Turner Classic Movies for session one at 10:00am will be Donnie Sumner and Bill Baize, backup singers who performed as part of J.D. Sumner & and the Stamps Quartet in “Elvis on Tour,” along with Joe Guercio, Elvis’ musical director and conductor from 1970-77. During session two at 1:00pm Michael Lollar Commercial Appeal writer and contributing author for the new book “Elvis Presley’s Memphis,” will be on hand to take guests behind-the-scenes and share what he discovered when researching for the book. Joining Michael will be longtime Memphis supporter and former mayor Bill Morris and Elvis' friend Joe Esposito to share stories about their experiences with Elvis and his love for the city of Memphis.
Plus two new outdoor concert events. On Sunday, August 15 at 9:00 a.m., fans will enjoy a celebration of the gospel music Elvis loved during the Classic Sunday Morning Gospel Music Singin’. Bill Baize, Larry Strickland, Ed Hill and Donnie Sumner, who performed on stage with Elvis as part of J.D. Sumner & The Stamps Quartet, will perform many of the gospel hits Elvis loved. Also performing that morning will be gospel group Soul City from First Assembly of God, Memphis, which was Elvis’ home church for many years.
Then, on Monday, August 16 at 9:00 a.m., the Elvis Week Finale Celebration Concert will be the perfect way to end an amazing Elvis Week when Jamie Aaron Kelley, along with Brad Birkedahl and Joe Fick, formerly with The Dempsey’s, will perform Elvis’ hits in their unique style. Another Elvis fan favorite, Terry Mike Jeffrey, will also be on hand to perform his favorite Elvis music.

Singer Jimmy Dean dies, aged 81; Jimmy Dean the american singer and actor best known for his hit 'Big Bad John' has died aged 81.
Dean composed the song as a dramatic monologue, the heroic story of a coal miner who "stood six foot six and weighed two forty-five" and held up a collapsing roof until his fellows had escaped, but could not save himself. Hammer-rings punctuate the recording, which ends with the epitaph: "At the bottom of this mine lies a big, big man – Big Bad John."
In an interesting coincidence in the UK charts 'Big Bad John' was only just held off the top spot by Elvis' 'His Latest Flame'. In the US, however, it reached No 1 on both country and pop charts, receiving a Grammy award as best country and western recording.
Dean was raised in what he called dirt-poor surroundings in the small west Texas town of Seth Ward, near Plainview. After leaving the armed forces in 1948, Dean began to make his name as a country singer around Washington DC, then a nexus of country music activity, thanks in part to the promoter Connie B Gay. In 1953 he had a regional hit with Bummin' Around, for the independent label 4 Star.
Dean than secured a spot on radio at WARL in Arlington, Virginia, then, from 1960, on television, hosted the show Town & Country Jamboree, which was quite widely syndicated. In 1956 Elvis Presley appeared on his TV show and Jimmy humorously recounted what a hard time he had getting anything out of Elvis other than a 'yep' or a 'nope'.
He noted it went as follows,
Jimmy Dean: So, you're gonna be on the S.S. Mt. Vernon tonight, are you, Elvis?
Elvis: Yep.
Jimmy: Have you ever worked on a boat before?
Elvis: Nope.
Jimmy: I imagine you're looking forward to this, aren't you?
Elvis: Yep.
And that was it. "Yep, nope... " and that was all he would say.
Dean stated that years later Elvis apologised profusely for leaving me hanging on that interview, telling Dean that "Elvis said that hHe was so sorry about that - but I was scared to death".
Dean noted that, "It's hard to believe that Elvis could be shy or afraid of anything, but I guess even 'The King' had those days in the beginning."
In the late 1960s, Dean entered the meat business, which he knew well – his family had been in the trade. In the early Nineties, his fortune was estimated at $75 million (£50m). Having watched other stars lose their fortunes, Dean said he had learned to be careful with his money. "I've seen so many people in this business that made a fortune," he said. "They get old and broke and can't make any money. I tell you something … no-one's going to play a benefit for Jimmy Dean."
In February, he was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame. He was to have been inducted in October.
Dean is survived by his wife, Donna, three children and two grandchildren.

'How Great Thou Art' new Classic Album FTD Out Now: Ernst Jorgensen has told Elvis Unlimited that the new FTD release will be shipped out last week when FTD releases its deluxe edition of Elvis’ GRAMMY AWARD winning album 'How Great Thou Art'.
 
Originally released in 1967 it was Elvis' second Gospel album. The original album featured a collection of thirteen sacred songs including the hit single "Crying In The Chapel".
In addition to the masters, the Classic Album FTD will feature many great outtakes.
The 7" inch digi-pack format includes a 12-page booklet with great photographs and RARE memorabilia.
