"Adios Huntsville" CD: The "Audionics" label that released "Across The Country Vol. 2" containing the Huntsville, May 31st, 1975 Evening show earlier this year, will another outstanding new CD soon. It's titled "Adios Huntsville", and it contains the last of Elvis' five legendary Huntsville concerts from the May/June 1975 tour, as recorded from the soundboard on June 1st, 1975, 8:30 P.M. - no edits, the complete tape. It was one of the the best shows of the tour, and a happy, humorous and good-voiced Elvis delivered excellent versions of songs like "The Wonder Of You", "Polk Salad Annie", "T.R.O.U.B.L.E.", "I Can't Stop Loving You", "I'll Remember You" and "An American Trilogy".

As Elvis said: "I'd like to say something, can I raise my hand... we have had a fantastic time here in Huntsville... a little rough getting in and out of my hotel, but that's all right. But you've really been fantastic down here. If you want us back in Huntsville, just let us know, and we shall be back." (News, Source EIN)

Elvis The Dutch Collection: Last week we already indicated the cover picture for the Dutch compilation CD "Essential Elvis - The Dutch Collection". We had hoped that at least the cover would be somewhat more 'dynamic' instead of this over-and-over recycled Essential picture. Also, many fans find the list of songs to choose from too limited. - Important "fan favorites" such as Loving Arms, Johnny B. Goode, It's midnight, Pieces of my Life, It's easy for You, For Old Time Sake, How the Web was woven, Long Black Limousine, ... are not on the list of titles. Let's wait and see if this Dutch version of another Greatest Hits will be another hit in the stores. (News, Source: Elvis Matters)

No FTD Sun Book/CD in 2007 - other FTD news: Finally, it appears FTD is starting to get more strategic in its information dissemination policy. Andylon Lensen talked personally to Ernst Jorgensen last week Friday and explained why the tracking list for the FTD "Raised On Rock" & "Easy Come, Easy Go"  will be announced on the release date July 1, 2007.

We recieved in the past hundreds of e-mails, many times because of rumors were spread or fabricated. We got tired of this, not to mention answering them if I had time - I mean lost time. And in the future it will be our policy to continue this with albums that are known by fans as the concept is crystal clear.

On the regular FTD "I Sing All Kinds" - this is such a "Special" release, this needed detailed information upfront for the fans.

The "Sun Project" well Andylon, I wish I could say "This will be a Christmas release for 2007" but I am afraid this will not happen. There is so much work I am focused on the last couple of weeks with the 30th Annv and next to that, I also have a lot of time spent now on the in-house for SONY/BMG... many things seems to change in the future for the music industry. On the Sun project ... I really need like 8 weeks spending solely writing and being day and night focused without being distracted to finish this project.

But I can say you this;  It's people like you and many, many others who helped me with rare/unpublished photo's and other information with this project, when it is finished it will be mind blowing.(News, Source: EP Gold)

Two editions of "Viva Las Vegas": “Viva Las Vegas” is being released in 2 different formats at the end of July. In the US/ Canada/ Latin America as a 1 CD compilation on July 31st, and a 2CD special edition in the rest of the world on July 30th.

There is going to be a TV documentary made, and once there is confirmation of where and when it will be placed, we will schedule a regular single CD version for the rest of the world to market on the back of that show. It is already slated for broadcast in the US in September, hence the dual strategy. - In the meantime the decision has been made that for most international markets we will release the 2CD deluxe version now, which is more of a fan based release as the concentration for mass market will be on The Essential/ The King 2CD hits set.

Reprint of "Elvis In Paris": In July-August the wonderful Jean Marie Pouzenc book Elvis à Paris/Elvis In Paris will be reissued.

The reissue will be launched at the Prince De Galles Hotel in Paris.

The book includes a new front cover and recently new discovered beautiful pictures of Elvis in Paris in 1959 have also been added. This book will be in French and in English. For more info contact: boutique@elvismyhappiness.com (News, Source: Elvis My Happiness)

"The Spirit Of Sin City" CD: New Czech Memory Records label release "The Spirit Of Sin City" which contains the August 13, 1972 Dinner Show as recorded from the audience in Las Vegas. Taken from a high quality audience recorded tape, this August 13th recording shows the unbelievable versatility and vocal ability of this 37 year old singer. After an energetic opening with three fast songs in row, the pace slows to include ballads like "Until It's Time For You To Go" and "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" which is performed just as well as in the 1970 "That's The Way It Is" movie. "For The Good Times" is one of Elvis' most "personal songs" and he always performs it well, this show is no exception. Another highlight of this concert is "My Way". Several bonus tracks taken from the August 26, 1972 dinner show was added(News, Source: Pavel Cernocky, Memory Records)

Russia CD releases: With the Elvis Summer ahead, it’s obvious that Elvis sales will be at an all time high again. Even Russia is ready for the Elvis hype. Several stores in Moscow offer a variety of re-released CD’s. But, as is usually the case in Russia, it’s hard to tell the official releases apart from the bootlegged copies. A hologram-like BMG sticker used to tell the difference, but these stickers too have been copied. Among the special re-releases we picked up, are “Love, Elvis” (with an alternative take for ‘For The Good Times’) and this one: “Elvis Presley – Special Russian Version”. This CD contains the original 12 tracks, plus 6 bonus tracks, but no alternate takes. (News, Source: Elvis Matters)

Next Madison release out now: The next release from Madison label is "Closing Night - February 1970". For the first time ever, this show will be available from start to finish, with the best-ever audio source, direct, reel-to-reel transfers to DAT.  The sound quality is excellent, given the limitations of early '70s soundboard recordings, and definitely superior to all previous, incomplete releases of this concert.

The 16-page booklet contains relevant notes, while the cover art of "Closing Night - February 1970" is a beautiful homage to Presley's 1970 RCA LP "On Stage - February 1970".  Several bonus tracks are included, though previously released, as they are the perfect compliment to this project. This is Elvis at his BEST as he ROCKS the house! (News, Source: FECC)

"Elvis Bicentennial Vol. 3" DVD: Memory Records in Czechoslovakia is releasing a new DVD called "ELVIS - BICENTENNIAL VOL. 3". It is a follow-up to their previous successful DVD releases "ELVIS - BICENTENNIAL" and containing overdubbed Elvis 1976 shows. "ELVIS BICETENNIAL VOL. 2". This third volume will bring you to two Elvis concerts in Georgia in 1976. You will see professionally restored video footage from Macon, August 31, 1976 and Atlanta, December 30, 1976 shows. Macon show was overdubbed and lip-synchronized with soundboard recording, Atlanta concert was overdubbed with best possible audience recorded source as no soundboard from this show is available. Approx. running time: 82 minutes. (News, Source: Pavel Cernocky, Memory Records)

Elvis A Legendary Performer Volume 9: One of the very dodgy bootleg releases is undoubtably A Legendary Performer Vol. 9. Copying Madison's excellent format this features fake alternate takes and tracks taken from other bootlegs. (News, Source: Elvis Matters)

New Chinese Double-CD set "Elvis In The 50s": This new 2 CD set is very nice and is available all over Hong Kong and China but is on the Universal label. Looks more like a bootleg to me. Disc One has the same tracks as Elvis 2nd To None. Disc Two features all non-Elvis songs. A strange release but very interesting for the Elvis collector. (News, Source: HT Long)

"Faiytale In Vegas" CD: Yet another new audience recorded live CD has been released. The disc contains the live recording of Elvis' show in Las Vegas on December 6, 1975 (8 P.M.) and the title is "Fairytale In Vegas". (News, Source: Elvis News)

'Tupelo's Own Elvis Presley' Book/DVD In-depth Review: The DVD contains recently discovered unreleased film of Elvis performing 6 songs, including ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ and ‘Don’t Be Cruel’, live in Tupelo Mississippi 1956. It is fascinating to see Elvis performing to hometown crowd of 10,000 instead of a TV studio audience and we get to see the only filmed performance of  'Long Tall Sally’ live in the fifties.

The limited edition book written by Tupelo historian Roy Turner contains over 200 photographs of Elvis in Tupelo many previously unknown. EIN's Piers Beagley investigates this historically important record of "Elvismania" near its peak. (Review, Source: EIN)

FTD confusion: "I Sing All Kinds" artwork - 'Raised On Rock' or 'Pot Luck'??: A number of sites have published this artwork for this album due out in July. No word yet if it is the official artwork.

Also, while we announced 'Raised On Rock' as one of the July releases (see news yesterday), Elvis World has published that it may in fact be the album 'Pot Luck'.

As EIN stated yesterday, there is a real issue with how FTD releases are announced, and it needs to become more professional in order to eradicate ongoing confusion! (News, Source: FECC)

July FTD releases: The quarterly magazine, 'Elvis The Man & His Music' lists the following titles as the July releases from FTD: I Sing All Kinds: (Nashville '71); Raised On Rock; Easy Come Easy Go......the latter two releases being in the deluxe 7'' format.

If this information is correct, it raises a serious issue: given the lead time for print media and other recent suggestions (see 20 May 2007 news) on the July releases, serious questions need to be asked about FTD's apparently inequitable information dissemination strategy! Track listing & artwork "American Way Vol. 4" Sound of the City: Many fans are looking forward to the upcoming 4th volume in the superior American Way series. Here are the details:

For those who don't see the significance of the cover photo or the connection to the musical contents, perhaps a little explanation is in order. The photo, taken by famous Memphian Robert "Bob" Williams, shows Elvis, Red West and cousin Junior Smith cruisin' on Main Street on a summer night in 1956. It was on Main and Beale that the teenage/ young adult Elvis Presley absorbed and soaked up the musical sounds of the City of Memphis. These influences shine through in some of his best ever studio recordings laid down in his hometown. Sun, American Sound, Stax...those recordings echo the sound of the City of Memphis.

Also a little different is that part of the 16-page bonus booklet is devoted to '50s RCA paperwork, rare photos of the studios he recorded in and unseen pix of Elvis and Scotty at Radio Recorders - all under the heading 'Another Place, Another Time'.

'Love Me Tender' Australian 'Music Edition' DVD: The upgraded Australian 50th Anniversary edition of Elvis' first movie 'Love Me Tender' is now available in local stores for the amazing low price of AU$12. Reviewed several months ago by EIN contributor Harley Payette, this is a sensational bargain. The DVD itself carries a similar effective design as the cover, shown right. 'Love Me Tender' 50th Anniversary Edition - DVD Review: For the very first time an original Elvis film has been given the special edition treatment on DVD. It has added audio commentary by Jerry Schilling, plus three new featurettes, as well as including Alanna Nash's fascinating insights on The Colonel. It also features the trailer snippet of Elvis singing the sought-after missing song 'Lonely Man' - so is this at last a worthy upgrade? EIN contributor Harley Payette reveals all in this in-depth review. (DVD Review, Source: EIN)

"Elvis Presley has left the building" (DVD Review): August 16, 1977 was the death the music world stood still. The King of Rock 'n' Roll died at his mansion home in Memphis, Tennessee. And the fact that these were a global phenomenon only served to emphasise the significance of Elvis' passing.Join EIN as it takes a look at a new DVD release, "Elvis Presley has left the building". As public memory fades over time, what we find is an important and historic audio-visual record of media and public reaction in August 1977. Read our full review (DVD Review, Source: EIN)

"Tupelo's Own Elvis Presley" is next MRS release: About to be officially announced is that the next box set (book & DVD) release from Memphis Recording Service is Tupelo's Own Elvis Presley! While artwork has been published (see opposite), MRS told EIN it is not the final version. Surprisingly, a number of messageboard threads have also missed the critical point that the set comes with a DVD featuring historically important (read the first!) fully audio-visual material of the King live on stage in Tupelo. This will make it one of the most significant Elvis releases in many years! We've had audio before, we've had video footage before, but until now we have not had the complete audio-visual package!

This DVD contains previously unreleased footage of Elvis performing in two shows in Tupelo! MRS has told EIN there is also a lot of misinformation being published about the content of the release. The set is due out next month. EIN will have more news in the next day or so. (News, Source: MRS)

Elvis: A King In The Making book release: In August the book Elvis '56 - In The Beginning by Alfred Wertheimer will be re-issued with the title "Elvis: The King In The Making". Foreword is written by Peter Guralnick. From the publisher Carlton Books Ltd: "In 1956, a 21-year-old singer called Elvis Presley was at the beginning of his career. Alfred Wertheimer, a young New York freelance photojournalist, was asked by Elvis' new label, RCA Victor, to photograph the rising star. In the course of this one-day assignment, Wertheimer was so struck by the charisma of this stunningly photogenic performer, that, whenever time and budget permitted, he felt compelled to continue to document Elvis and the everyday moments in his life during that crucial year. Wertheimer's unobtrusive photographs of Elvis in performance, with his fans, and in the recording studio, as well as at home with his family, were the first and last unguarded look at the King of Rock 'n' Roll, and present a uniquely intimate portrait of one of the world's most famous cultural figures." Released as a hardback with 224 pages. ISBN: 1844421228. (News, Source: Carlton Books Ltd / Amazon /A Life In Books)

"Kicking & Rolling" CD: Here is the cover art of the forthcoming release from the Straight Arrow label titled "KICKING & ROLLING" (SA 2007-6-02), and will feature the Las Vegas February 18th, 1973 Midnight show taken from a so-called "booth tape". The midnight show from February 18th, as presented on this CD, could be called quite typical for this season, if not for an extremely unusual incident which happened during this show, and which has made this show one of his most controversial concerts ever. Elvis had been practicing karate since his army days and got his black belt in '60. On this particular night in early '73, he got an unexpected chance to use his martial art against some aggressors. This concert includes great performances of songs like "An American Trilogy", "What Now My Love", "Steamroller Blues", "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" or "I Can't Stop Loving You". This recording comes from an early generation copy of the original "booth tape" and for an off-line recording, the sound quality is very good.

The audio was restored in a professional studio to achieve the best possible results. "Booth tapes" were made from a "booth" or table at the edge of the stage, close to the speakers, by someone who was part of Elvis' organization. Unlike the usual audience recordings, "booth recordings" were made by someone who was known by Elvis' security force, and who did not have to worry about concealing the recorder and microphone. The sound quality of such tapes is noticeably better than a typical audience recording. As a bonus, five tracks recorded in February 1973 under the same circumstances were added. Just like previous releases from this label, this new CD will come in a deluxe package with a 16-page booklet, containing a collection of live and candid photographs from February - April 1973, Las Vegas memorabilia, informative liner notes with an "Elvis in early 1973" overview, as well as details about Elvis' Las Vegas 1973 Winter season. This CD is set for release in late May. Note: this release has nothing to do with the poor quality audience recording of the same show which in circulation under titles like "I'll Whoop His Ass" and "Fight Night". (News, Source: FECC)

Steven Chanzes writing new book - proceeds to go to "Presley Place": Steven Chanzes, controversial author of "Elvis, Where Are You?" has told EIN: I'm publishing a book with the tentative title, "The Sivle Nora Story."  It will leave no stone unturned and it will answer all the questions that the fans have asked and wondered about for the past 26 years since my book "Elvis, Where Are You?" was published. In answer to a question I know will be asked, I am not undertaking this venture for profit.  I am going to pay for the printing of the book and any advertising out of my own pocket.  One hundred per-cent of the proceeds derived from the sale of the book will be turned over and donated to "Presley Place." Too many people have speculated over the years as to what my motives may have been for writing "Elvis, Where Are You?" There have been gross mischaracterizations of myself and while I'm not attempting to put a halo on my head, it is time to tell the truth, to shoulder some responsibility and to set the record straight once and for all. (News, Source: Steven Chanzes)

"Heavy Times!" released: Now out on the MxF label will be their second release entitled "Heavy Times!" featuring the Vegas performances on January 28th 1971, midnight show and January 29th 1971, dinner show. For the first time, both the performances remastered from the original sources will become available on a sole CD.

Although these two concerts were released on two separate imports some years ago here we have the opportunity to listen to both shows in better, improved sound. Using the original source tape we were able to keep Elvis' vocal power central to the mix whilst at the same time giving a new definition to the supporting musicians and singers. Elvis' performance on both nights is superb as he is still performing to the best of his ability. Although he delivers two short shows they are delivered in a very intense, crisp and fresh manner that cannot be denied. Elvis was on stage to have fun and demonstrated this during the older, classic numbers, but songs such as 'Polk Salad Annie', 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling' and 'Sweet Caroline' never sounded better. Reissue of Bobbie Ann Mason book: Here is the cover art of the 192 pages book “Elvis Presley” by Bobbi Ann Mason from Penguin Books which is due for re-release August 2007 (ISBN: 0143038893).

Synopsis: "Written by fellow Southerner Mason (In Country; Clear Springs), this abbreviated biography suffers fromthe series' length limitation but makes up for it by hitting the significant points.

Mason credits Elvis with inventing rock and youth culture and "[puncturing] the balloon of 1950s serenity and conformity." She posits that the result of his stint in the army "was to erase his rock-and-roll rebel image and turn him into a mainstream all-American boy next door," and that in 1969, after almost a decade spent making bad films, "he was genuinely invigorated by making good music again.

Hot new Southern Comfort CDs announced!: Several forthcoming releases have been announced by the Southern Comfort label. Their follow-up project to 'The American Way' series will be a double-CD set of Elvis's 1975 'The Request Box Shows' to be released near October 2007. With a stylish 16-page booklet and upgraded audio in both stereo and mono from the original master tapes, this will be far superior to any previous release. It will also include brand new material taken from the original Japanese audience recordings.
'HIGH VOLTAGE' a 2-CD set of Elvis's sensational Opening and Closing shows from the Las Vegas January/February 1970 season has also been announced for winter release. Mastered from the original reel-to-reel recordings and including a 16-page booklet this will surpass any previous versions, which have always suffered from poor quality audio..(Photo right: Burning In Birmingham to be upgraded)

The hot news is that an upgraded release of Elvis' sensational 'Birmingham '76' concert is being planned. 'Burning In Birmingham' is often voted as the best concert release of 1976 but the original master tape has been found and the new version promises to blow the roof off the old one! No release date as yet. Final news is that 'The American Way, Volume 4: 827 Thomas Street Memphis', as it is now subtitled, is due for release in early June. The 'American Way' series is selling fast. Volumes 1 & 2 of these complete 1969 Memphis sessions are already sold out with Volume 3 'Movin and Groovin' heading the same way. Elvis and his Police buddies: Nearly 30 years after the death of Elvis Presley, you'd think every possible book had been written about the late King of Rock-and-Roll.

And you'd be wrong. Retired Memphis Police Department Captain Robert Ferguson has compiled Elvis: In the Beat of the Night, an interesting book that focuses on Elvis' friendship — some might even call it an obsession — with police officers. The entertainer liked to hang out with policemen, collected police badges wherever he traveled, and enjoyed being made an honorary policeman in any city where he performed.

Ferguson explains that shortly after Elvis’ death in 1977, he began taping video interviews of many of the local officers who knew Elvis, from officers who met him at the beginning of his career to those who helped at his funeral. Those tapes might have remained hidden forever, but when biographer Peter Guralnick interviewed Ferguson for Last Train to Memphis he persuaded the former policeman to compile the interviews into the self-published book.

Preview of "Elvis Is Back" boxset: Here is a preview of the upcoming Elvis Unlimited release "Elvis Is Back" which is due for release May 2007. It will be made like the two “Inside” boxes. The book will be thicker and the DVD will be much longer than in the two previous boxes.

Synopsis: Elvis Is Back will be about Elvis’ return to the music scene in 1960. This year was a bittersweet one for Elvis. He was being discharged from the Army. Music had changed in two years and he was a little insecure about his music career.

Yet he enters the sessions with such ambition and determination. He delivers a new mature diverse voice. “It's Now Or Never” and “Surrender” are truly challenging for Elvis. He proofs himself to be a truly talented singer and not just a flash in the pan. These recording sessions will forever stand out in Elvis’ history.

It’s almost as if Elvis hit the ground running upon his return. The Colonel had been busy preparing for Elvis' return for a very long time. Not only were the recording sessions lined up, an appearance on the ABC televised Frank Sinatra Special and the filming for “G.I. Blues” were immediately following.

His appearance on the Sinatra Special is warmly received by the public. Elvis innocently steals the show from Sinatra. Yet the repertoire between the two performers is very apparent. “G.I. Blues” is a very successful film for Elvis although Elvis hates being in uniform again.

During this year, Elvis is also experiencing many changes in his personal life. Elvis has met Priscilla while in Germany. But he returns to his long time girlfriend Anita Wood. They continue their relationship where it left off before Elvis left for Germany. Vernon marries Dee, which is hard on Elvis because of the loss of his mother. Elvis also brings many of his friends from Germany home and the Memphis Mafia is formed.

But still the most important thing during the year 1960 is the amazing recording sessions. We have two incredible albums from this year, “Elvis Is Back” and “His Hand In Mine.” Elvis truly proves his ability as a performer. He conquers every challenge he is faced with and proves Elvis is back!

Elvis Is Back will present many never before seen pictures from this period. There will even be some very interesting ones from the filming of G.I. Blues. Those were not used in the Inside G.I. Blues book. (News, Source: Elvis News)

Duet hits #1 on iTunes: The Elvis and Celine duet completely wowed television viewers and has been making the news around the world. Today, the duet is the number one video download on iTunes. The purchase of the download benefits Idol Gives Back. (News, Source: EPE)

Watch the duet

No release planned for Elvis-Celine duet: The breathtaking duet of 'If I Can Dream' with Elvis and Celine Dion has caused a stir across the globe, newspapers call it historic, some have even stated that the Idols Give Back show was dull and was only saved by the emotionally charged duet.............And yet EPE look set to allow this jaw-dropping performance to fall into music obscurity just like they did with the duet 'Don't Cry Daddy' performed by Elvis and Lisa Marie.

In an email sent to us by one of our listeners, Todd Morgan of Elvis Presley Enterprises wrote, "This was a
one-time, stand-alone event for last night's Idol Gives Back special and an iTunes video download only." He also states "No release of the video on DVD is in the works." (News, Source: Elvis Express)

EIN Comment: EIN agrees with Elvis Express' sentiments on the If I Can Dream duet. Unlike the Elvis-Lisa duet on Don't Cry Daddy, which was a special thing Lisa wanted to do (and therefore we should respect her wishes for it to be a once off, non released performance), the latest duet is a wonderful opportunity for all parties (Celine Dion's best selling album days are behind her) to reinvigorate their faltering sales position.

It's not the first book about Elvis in Memphis, but the city has changed so much over the years that an updated book had to be written. (News, Source: Elvis Matters)

'The American Way Vol.3 - Movin And Groovin': CD review: Released by Southern Comfort this CD features five tracks from Elvis' astounding 1969 sessions at Chips Moman's American Studios in Memphis. This is Elvis creatively revitalised and working at his peak, and at last this series presents the complete sessions, chronologically and with nothing missing. With new studio rehearsals and chatter we get a fly-on-the-wall look at Elvis rediscovering his musical roots and playing with one of the coolest bands in town. But with a lot this material previously released is there really more to discover? EIN's Piers Beagley investigates..  (CD Review, Source: EIN, April 2007)

"Elvis Presley Has Left The Building" DVD: Announced from the Eternal Flame label:

There is no way to describe the effect that Elvis' death had on a television audience 30 years ago.

In every country, on every network, broadcasters rearranged their schedules to carry special news programmes and documentary footage marking the end of an era. No death of any entertainer has ever been given such a massive amount of air-time, both in the USA and around the world.

It would be impossible to present to you every news bulletin from every country, but the producers of this commemorative programme have gathered together some of the most important "breaking news" items of the time which will give you a feel for the emotions which were running wild at the very moment when Elvis Presley's death was announced. This unique time capsule will transport you back to August 1977 when fans around the world mourned the passing of the greatest entertainer of all time, when Elvis Presley left our building. We thank those broadcasters who have generously let our production company have access to their archives. Please note that some of the material used was recorded off-air and included for historical content, as not all TV companies archive their footage, so the quality of each news report will vary. We hope that you appreciate this documentary piece of TV history. Order your copy from It's Elvis Time (News, Source: It's Elvis Time)

'Once Upon A Time in 1977' EID DVD review: Nicely coinciding with the release of FTD’s ‘Unchained Melody’ CD, EID presents a compile of fan videos taken at Elvis’ first tour in February 1977. By editing together seven concerts of home-video material (in varying degrees of poor quality) EID have cleverly created a ‘complete’ Elvis concert featuring 27 songs. With home-video that is pretty unwatchable, fuzzy and filmed from downright far away at times, this can only be made for the serious Elvis collector. And can one learn anything from it? So while feeling in the mood for some more 1977 Elvis, EIN's Piers Beagley investigates. (DVD Review, Source: EIN)

Friday 20 April 2007

'Unchained Melody' FTD CD review: While a 1977 concert could never be a highlight of Elvis' on-stage career, there has to be emotional involvement from any true Elvis fan. With this release of a totally unknown concert from Charlotte February 1977, FTD continues to provide thought-provoking material for Elvis collectors. With tracks like ’Reconsider Baby’ and ‘Where No One Stands Alone’ there are also some very fine performances that needed to be officially released. So while this CD will have its detractors who are only interested in the glory days of Elvis' early seventies concerts EIN discovers plenty of reasons that make this CD worth a spin.  (FTD Review, Source: EIN)

Lew Allen Elvis photobook to be released in US: In perhaps the greatest photojournalism scoop in the annals of rock music -- certainly the earliest, as it happened in 1956 -- 17 year-old Lew Allen was the lone cameraman covering 21 year-old Elvis Presley's Nov. 23 concert at the Cleveland Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, now the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's home city. 50 years later, previously unpublished and mostly unseen, 27 of these priceless, historic images -- stored and unexamined for decades -- are the centerpiece of pre-eminent art house publisher Genesis Publications' newest signed, limited edition, "Elvis & The Birth Of Rock: The Photographs Of Lew Allen."

'His Hand In Mine' FTD Deluxe CD review: With a stylish booklet and 53 tracks featured over 2 CDs, FTD once again spoils Elvis fans with the ultimate version of this classic gospel album. Although most of these tracks have been released before, the upgraded sound and exquisite harmonies provide a emotional look into the music that Elvis so loved. EIN's Piers Beagley spent Easter soaking in the glory of The Lord and Elvis' divine Gospel music, leading him to discover plenty of new highlights that would make any fan happy. The CD also features exciting new versions of Elvis' #1 singles 'Surrender' and 'Crying In The Chapel.' Only EIN brings you such in-depth analysis of Elvis' music. Jerry Scheff book and CD update: Jerry Scheff is still working on a book and a CD. The announcement of the book is already from a while ago, but he is almost finished with his writing. If all goes well, the book will come out in 2008. The story starts on august 16, 1977 when the band members are informed that Elvis died. Then the book goes back in time at the time that Jerry was 8 years old and made his first steps in his musical career. From then on, the chapters are following his musical life in chronological order to end again on that dramatic day in august 1977.

The second project, a spoken CD, will be released a lot sooner. Jerry is a very intense and interesting story teller and he wants to record some of his memories on CD. He started the recordings a while ago on his own in his home studio, but he thought that it was not interesting enough talking all alone in to the microphone. So, in a few weeks, he will do a new recording while he is telling the stories to his family members. (News, Source: Elvis Matters/Elvis News)

The Complete 1976 8mm Films - THE DEFINITIVE EDITION - 4 DVD set released: 70sElvisIsTheBest posted a very interesting message about this release on the FECC board last month. With a running time of 20 hours the release will interest many fans:

For as long as Elvis import dvds have been circulating, the only good 1976 set to rely on for the best amount of footage was the crown series. Unfortunately, the set lacked a lot of footage that has since been released, and the footage that was there suffered from bad quality. This set can finally lay the crown set to rest and provide the absolute best quality of all films from 1976 ever released. Since these films presented on discs 1 - 3 are in their raw form, you may see footatge from the same show shot from a different part of the audience in their original audio. Read full details of set (News, Source: FECC)

"Tiger Man - An Alternate Anthology Volume 7": Announced in the booklet of the sixth volume of the Shake Records import series Tiger Man - An Alternate Anthology" is volume 7. No other details are available yet, but like all previous volumes it will probably contain material taken from both previously released official along with some dodgy "extended remixes"(News, Source: EIN/Elvis News)

New import CD 'Heavy Times': Two 1971 Vegas performances will soon be released on the MxF label. 'Heavy Times!' features performances from Jan 28th 1971, midnight show and Jan 29th 1971 dinner show. For the first time both the performances remastered from the original sources will become available on a sole CD. Although these two concerts were released on two separate imports some years ago - 'Snowbird' and Fort Baxter's 'Lean, Mean And Kickin' Butt' - here both shows are presented in better, improved sound. The season will be remembered for the introduction of the new opening composition 'Also Sprach Zarathustra.' As we now know this thunderous opening would be used until the final concert Elvis performed. The season will also be remembered for the beautiful new closing number 'The Impossible Dream' which Elvis sang with power and feeling giving us proof that Elvis continued to grow as a performer.
Packaged with a 16 page professionally edited booklet this picture disc CD will be accompanied by relevant liner notes and with over 27 photographs of the Elvis NOW suit from this season. These are not new shows, but the package and the 79:40 minutes of superb music definitely gives us something different, a different kind of product! The definitive product in reference to Elvis from January 1971, Don't Miss It!!!

Tracklist: 01. 2001 Theme; 02. That's All Right; 03. I Got A Woman; 04. Love Me Tender; 05. You Don't Have To Say You Love Me; 06.Sweet Caroline; 07. You've Lost That Loving Feeling; 08. New 18 Singles plus Singles Box-Set announced: Following the same plan as the "Elvis 18 UK #1s" campaign from 2005, which resulted in sales of over 750,000 units, Sony/BMG will release a new set of 18 singles, this time featuring classic Elvis singles which were not part of the first campaign. The campaign will run from August to December, followed by a complete box set also released in December. The 18 singles will be released over a period of 17 weeks, on CD, 10 vinyl, and digital download, with a collector’s edition numbered box at the beginning of the campaign, and a complete box (not numbered and slimmed down) in December 2007.
EIN notes that it would be lovely to see such singles as 'Guitar Man', 'I'm Leavin' or 'Kentucky Rain' released in this way. However the official British BBC Top 40 chart now includes downloads which means unfortunately that it will be very difficult for Elvis to get more Numbers Ones as he did in 2005. In the same way though it is unlikely that The Beatles could ever overtake Elvis for the most Number Ones of all time. (Photo above is only a mock-up) (News, Source; BMG/EIN)

New Elvis DVD 30th Anniversary Collection: Released last December Paramount Pictures will release "Elvis - 30th Anniversary Collection" an eight DVD Box Set in Europe and Australia in August 2007. This is a strange move since exactly the same box-set of DVDs were released last December in Australia under the title 'Elvis Album - DVD Collection' (see photo right). This new release will contain the same movies - "Blue Hawaii", "Easy Come Easy Go", "Fun In Acapulco", "G.I. Blues", "Girls, Girls, Girls", "King Creole", Loving You", "Paradise Hawaiian Style" and "Roustabout". However Warner Brothers is also planning a DVD-set with possibly 6 DVD’s. Those titles will be announced later this month. This matches up with the Sony/BMG 'Elvis At The Movies' CD release below. (News, Source; EIN)

New 'Elvis At The Movies' 2CD set announced: Sony/BMG has a new double CD entitled "Elvis At The Movies", scheduled for release on June 4, 2007.

The release of this 2CD set is in conjunction with Warner Brothers’s and Paramount’s marketing push to promote their multiple DVD releases in August.

But haven't BMG just released the genre CD Elvis Movies?
(News, Source: BMG/Various)

New 'Viva Las Vegas' 2CD set announced including unreleased Concert: Sony/BMG has decided to release a 2CD set entitled “Viva Las Vegas” featuring the best Elvis' live recordings from Las Vegas on the first disc and a never before released concert from August 1969 on disc 2. The 2CD-set features 38 tracks. No cover available as yet.

As Elvis never sang 'Viva Las Vegas' in concert the first track would have to be the studio version. One has to wonder how BMG will sequence it into See See Rider. If the second CD is an unreleased concert could it be the August 22nd Dinner Show or perhaps the August 21st Midnight show?

And haven't BMG just released a similar Elvis 'Best Of' concert with the excellent genre CD 'Elvis LIVE'?

Elvis Seeks Help of Former Sweetheart in New Novel: In her new novel, Cherry McKenzie tells a gripping story of four unlikely allies who search to uncover Elvis Presley's secret past. Elvis' Secret Legacy, now available through AuthorHouse, follows these dedicated women as they help the spirit of Elvis protect his secret. McKenzie, who attended high school with Elvis in Memphis and was asked by the superstar to attend the prom, describes in this fictional tale how Kat McBride gets an unexpected visit from Elvis during one of her daily meditations. He asks for help in searching for his secret legacy. She enlists the help of her best friend, Posey Street, a metaphysical bookstore owner and a woman well-versed in paranormal activities. Posey and Kat work to piece together various clues given to Kat by the spirit of the rock legend.

Their search takes them to Graceland, where they meet Early May, a devoted fan who worked for a veterinarian who cared for the Presley pets. They are reluctant to get her involved because of her eagerness to help, but they realize they need her expertise. As they delve into the meaning of Elvis' original plea, the situation gets more convoluted and complicated. When it looks like the three women have hit a dead end, they encounter Maple Melton, a real estate agent who has strange abilities of her own. What they discover next does uncover the secret legacy of Elvis Presley, but they are surprised to discover links to the underground world of lone sharks and greedy thugs.

"Elvis' Secret Legacy" is an entertaining new novel that weaves a rock icon with paranormal influences and a search for the truth. Kat, Posey, Early and Maple join together as they maneuver their way between the land of the living and the land beyond to ensure that the King's legacy is safe. Born in Memphis, McKenzie transferred to Humes High School, where she sat next to Elvis in speech and drama class. Kansas City '71 kicks off disc one with perfectly synced sound and Elvis strutting around the stage in the beautiful Red Lion suit. Bill E. Burk's Elvis World #83: EIN recently took a peek inside the latest issue of Bill Burk's long running quarterly magazine. Madison to release Huntsville 1975 Afternoon Show CD: In a strange coincidence (see below) the next release from Madison will be the May 31, 1975 afternoon show recorded from the soundboard in Huntsville, Alabama. Some performances from this show were previously released, but for the first time the show will be available unedited. The same label is also planning to release the afternoon show from the same city recorded from the soundboard on June 1, 1975. The latter was definitely one of the rare show from this tour where they started to record over one minute before the start of ''I Got A Woman/Amen'', and therefore one of the longest recorded performance from this tour. Several other projects are also being planned and no doubts fans will be pleased.  (News, Source: FECC)

'Elvis - Across Country Vol.2' CD release: This soundboard compilation focuses on one of the five famous Huntsville, AL shows. From the May 31, 1975 8:30 PM performance Elvis was in great vocal condition and a good mood. The show contains many highlights including rocking versions of 'Burning Love' and 'T.R.O.U.B.L.E.' a rare 1975 performance of 'I Can't Stop Loving You' and a haunting late rendition of 'I'm Leavin'' just to name a few. FTD presented a similar concept with their 'Southern Nights' release. Unfortunately, as all other soundboards from May/June 1975 tour, this concert was not recorded in its entirety and the songs C. C. Rider, I Got A Woman/Amen, Love Me, If You Love Me (Let Me Know) and Love Me Tender were not recorded. To compensate for this material from 3 other unreleased soundboard recordings (surprisingly not Hurstville, nor 1975!) has been added as bonus tracks.

The complete Sweet Inspirations pre-program was recorded in Minneapolis, MN on October 17, 1976. The Sweets treat us to their trademark song 'Sweet Inspiration' and to a fine Stevie Wonder medley which was part of almost every 70s Elvis Presley Show. Elvis played his very first 1976 concert in Johnson City on March 17. The soundboard of this show was recorded in binaural stereo with James Burton's  lead guitar separated to one track. Elvis was in fine voice and clearly excited to be on stage again with new musicians Shane Kiester and Larry Londin. This CD closes with three tracks from February 15, 1977 in Orlando, FL. This show, also recorded binaurally, had Tony Brown's piano separated to one track.  With today's techniques, Elvis vocal was enhanced and brought up as the original recording had Elvis' vocal drowned deep in the mix. According to the press release, the result is surprisingly good!
This CD comes in a deluxe package with liner notes, a 16-page booklet and a collection of photographs taken in Huntsville on May 30 and 31, 1975 and additional shots from Johnson City March 17-19, 1976, and the October 1976 and February 1977 tours.

'Roots Of Elvis Volume.2' CD release: The UK's Cherry Red/Rev-Ola label are issuing this new compile of Elvis' musical roots by other artists in April. It is interesting for featuring so few tracks actually recorded by Elvis.
The pre-release publicity states - "Always cause for speculation and sometimes unfounded rumour, Elvis Presley's early months with Sun Records and the brief, hazy period he spent performing on radio shows in Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas, have generated a substantial list of songs that he either never recorded commercially or have since been lost. In order to give the Elvis fan an idea of these mythical songs, this compilation endeavours to collate the original versions of these songs which inspired Elvis to try them out for Sam Phillips or to perform them for a radio or live audience in those long-lost days of the mid 1950s."

Tracklist: The Delmore Brothers 'Blues Stay Away From Me' / Billy Hughes & His Buckaroos 'Take Your Hands Off Of It' / Fairley Holden & His Six Ice Cold Papas 'Keep Them Cold Icy Fingers Off Of Me' / Lefty Frizzell 'Always Late (With Your Kisses)' / Lefty Frizzell 'Give Me More, More, More (Of Your Kisses)' / Johnnie Lee Wills & His Boys 'Rag Mop' / Ivory Joe Hunter 'I Almost Lost My Mind' / Johnny & Jack 'Crying Heart Blues' / The Delmore Brothers 'Midnite Special' / Red Foley 'Tennessee Saturday Night' / Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys 'Sittin' On Top Of The World' / Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup 'Hey Mama, Everything's Alright' / Red Foley & Roberta Lee 'Night Train To Memphis' / Sheb Wooley 'Blue Guitar' / Johnny Tyler 'Okie Boogie' / Hank Snow & His Rainbow Ranch Boys 'It Don't Hurt Anymore' / Eddy Arnold 'I Really Don't Want To Know' / Red Foley, Ernest Tubb & Minnie Pearl 'Love Bug Itch' / Terry Preston (Ferlin Husky) 'Gone' / Bill Monroe & His Blue Grass Boys 'Uncle Pen' / Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys 'Milk Cow Blues' / The Lone Star Cowboys 'Just Because' / Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup 'Hand Me Down My Walkin' Cane' / Buddy & Bob 'Down The Line' / Sonny Fisher & His Rockin' Boys 'Rockin' Daddy' / Charlie Feathers 'We're Gettin' Closer To Being Apart' / Pee Wee King & His Golden West Cowboys 'Tennessee Dancin' Doll' / Chuck Miller 'Lookout Mountain' / Eddie Riff 'Ain't That Lovin' You, Baby' - (News, Source: EIN/Various)

Las Vegas August 1975 Revisited: A new import double CD set has been announced. The set, containing two - previously released - remastered concerts from August 1975, comes as a deluxe gate fold set with a 20 pages booklet.

Here is the "press release":

"After a highly successful tour in July, Elvis was booked for 2 weeks in Vegas, starting on the night of august 18. That opening night was followed by only two more nights and four performances. known among fans as the "Request Box Shows".

On the night of August 20 Elvis left the Vegas Hilton in a hurry, and was flown back to Memphis. Luckily a fan from Japan recorded several of these shows on portable Sony equipment, resulting in excellent sounding tapes. They were released, in part, on both Bilko and Live Archives releases. In May the Southern Comfort label will release two complete shows plus additional songs on a deluxe gate fold double CD set remastered from the original 32 year old tapes. A 20 pages photo booklet will be included with the two CDs. (News, Source: Elvis News)

Elvis 50’s Concert Film with Sound in Post Production "update": On 22 March EIN broke the news of this upcoming release.

As a result of our story there was been a flurry of activity on other Elvis websites with a number of sites contacting Joseph Pirzada for comment, and more than 150 postings have been published about our story on the Elvis messageboards. From what EIN was originally told (and subsequently verified), many of the subsequent news items and board postings are misinformed.

The most interesting messageboard posting was made by TheKingStillRocks (on FECC). He stated:

"It has to be the amateur filmed footage, one which I missed out on last year. I tried to buy it but it was sold extremely fast. It has been part of a collection from an Elvis fan in Lubbock, TX since the early days. He had a large collection of 1950 footage, with some very rare performances. His first filming was at the Fair Park Auditorium, hometown Lubbock. 2 performances and Tupelo

The 56 footage: Forth Worth, Shreveport, Richmond Norfolk, Lubbock, El Paso, New Orleans, Tupelo, San Antonio.

1957: Tupelo, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles.

Also footage Elvis eating somewhere with reporters and driving off etc. Some have sound which is very rare in those days.

His grandson did put it on eBay last year and they were approached within 10 minutes. He didn’t reveal the amount but it was a great deal as he said it. He mentioned that the buyer said that he was thinking of using a part ot it for a DVD. There are not too much people with that much money and releasing possibilities. I tried to buy some the collection, asked what is was but he said that he had a buyer already, it it wouldn’t come through he would get back to me. He had also a lot of photos and souvenirs and the ticket stubs. I think that some of this will be on the release….

Anyway a very nice idea indeed a tour DVD from the 50’s well in this way I get it much cheaper. Let’s hope I’m right!" (News, Source: TheKingStillRocks on FECC board)

"Elvis, How Great Thou Art A Portrait of the Artist" (Film and CD single review): Linda Ann McConnell's new documentary portrait of Elvis is an impressive work.

Featuring very rare clips of Elvis live on stage in the 1970s and offering an appreciation of both The King's musical and socio-cultural impact, there is much to enlighten and enjoy.

Cover artwork "Elvis Duets": Here is the cover art of the upcoming import CD "Duets" which is due for release April 3, 2007. This compilation will contain every duet Elvis recorded during his career through studio, movie, home and live recordings.

"Elvis A Legendary Performer Volume 9" CD: Due for release on the new Wolf Call import label is "Elvis - A Legendary Performer Volume 9". It should feature previously unreleased live and rehearsal performances, unedited studio recordings, movie outtakes, and previously issued tracks with improved sound quality. Some of Volume 9's highlights include previously so-said unreleased rehearsals of "Never Been To Spain" in stereo, undubbed stereo master of "Blueberry Hill" in perfect sound, an extended stereo version of "One Night Of Sin" an unedited stereo version of "Too Much Monkey Business" (alternate take 9), three previously unreleased live renditions of "How Great Thou Art" " Let Me Be There" "You Can Have Her" and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" (duet version). However all tracks have been heard before and with fake 'extended remixes' this looks like a dodgy copy of Madison's fine work. Buyer beware. (News, Source:EIN/ Elvis News)

New Dutch DVD/CD set: The Dutch chain Kruidvat will release a DVD/CD/Book (256 pages) combination simply titled “Elvis” on August 15, 2007. Compiler of the product is Roel van Diepen. The set will be released in a slipcase. This is what the ad on the Kruidvat site says about the book: On August 16, 1977 the world was shocked by the news that the greatest pop star of all time passed away. During the last 30 year many authors and journalists tried to find out who The King really was: musician, author, man, lover, brutal, sensitive, a bad or a good dad, guitar player, thinker, drug abuser, legend during his life and after his death an icon. How is it possible that Elvis’ music and his message still are relevant for millions in the whole world? Many prominent Elvis-lovers try to answer this question in the book “Elvis”. New Madison label CD: The Madison label will release soon a new CD titled ''A New Kind Of Rhythm!'' featuring the March 21, 1976 evening show in Cincinnati, OH. For the first time, the whole performance will become available as originally recorded, in '' living binaural ''.

This concert was recorded in binaural with Larrie Londin's drums separated on one track, which definitely gives a new life to that show with his heavy drumming style.

The recording runs also a bit more longer since it contains the complete '' final announcements '', not featured on '' Holding Back The Years '' released in mono.

Elvis' performance that night at the Riverfront Coliseum was excellent by 1976 standard. His revamped TCB crew with Larrie Londin on drums and Shane Keister on piano certainly add that evening, a freshness that cannot be denied. Elvis was on stage to have fun and he did, but got serious on songs such as '' You Gave Me A Mountain '', '' America The Beautiful '', '' And I Love You So '' and '' Hurt '' ( including a full reprise ). His new musicians didn't let him down either on heavier numbers like '' Steamroller Blues '' and '' Polk Salad Annie ''. As the audio evidence proves, Larrie's powerhouse drumming and Shane's bright keyboard stylings gave the music a new spark, a new kind of rhythm for America's Bicentennial year.

The packaging will come with a 16 page booklet, picture disc, relevant liner notes and over 25 photographs from the actual concert. This is not a new show...but definitely a different and new kind of sound! (News, Source:

New release from Memory Records: "Autumn Revival" will be the next Memory Records CD release and feature an unissued 1976 concert recorded from the audience during the October tour. From September to early October Elvis lost about 25 pounds, so he fit into his 1974 jumpsuits again. He looked much healthier, his face was not swollen and he surprised the audience with a solid, energic performances. This positive wave lasted for the entire tour, evening after evening.

The October concerts were longer than the summer performances and his repertoire expanded. Several older songs were "revived" once again to make the shows variable and lively. Among the highlights are "You Gave Me A Mountain", "Love Me Tender", "And I Love You So",  "America" and "Heartbreak Hotel". A good show from a generally good tour. (News, Source: EIN/Pavel)

June Juanico book re-issue: In July the book "In The Twilight of Memory" will be re-released by Arcade Publishing: To commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of his death, here is the highly acclaimed, intimate, tender, and deeply moving portrait of Elvis Presley, written by his first serious girlfriend.

June Juanico was 17 when she met Elvis Presley; he was 20. She was a good girl from Biloxi, Mississippi; he was a rockabilly singer on the verge of stardom. They fell in love in the summer of 1956, and found a timeless moment of innocence and simple pleasure. Juanico gives us the Elvis she knew and loved—the Memphis boy with aw-shucks charm, impeccable manners, and an easy and irresistible sensuality. Their lives merged quickly and completely: Elvis’s mother, Gladys, felt June was her son’s last hope against the excesses of life on the road and the corruption of fame. But Elvis was on a train that no one could stop. Self-possessed, June chose her own path; she left Elvis, determined never to look back. But in this completely disarming, fascinating memoir, she does look back, and proves she has remembered everything, every conversation, every story, and every caress. ELVIS IN THE TWILIGHT OF MEMORY gives us an intimate and unforgettable portrait of the man who would be King.

Both a hardcover (ISBN 1559703938, 320 pages) and paperback (ISBN 1559708395, 336 pages) will be released. (News, Source: Elvis: A Life In Books)

Elvis what really happened: As promotion for Joe Esposito's new release, Celebrate Elvis, Elvis The Magazine has circulated excerpts from the book. Here is one:

Reporter: There are rumors when Elvis was in the Army in Germany that Elvis and the Sergeant he was driving for got so cold one night during maneuvers that they pulled a tarp over the Jeep as the engine of the Jeep was running to stay warm. Is it true that the Army used the publicized tonsillitis hospital visit to cover up the fact that Elvis almost died from Carbon Monoxide poisoning resulting from the fumes that came into the Jeep from a hole in the floorboard?

Joe Esposito: The Unit that we were in Germany used to go into the field quite a bit. One night in the winter, Elvis was out on maneuvers as a scout driver and he and the Sergeant decided to pull over to the side to take a little nap. So, they covered the jeep with a tarp and left the motor running so they could warm up to the heat of the engine. So, after awhile they passed out from the carbon monoxide gas, which is as you know, quite deadly. Now, here is the strange part. While Elvis and the Sergeant were lying there unconscious, a really strong wind came and blew the tarp off the jeep. That's what saved their lives. That really happened. They didn't pull the tarp off themselves as so many people believe. As for the tonsillitis, well, he got that because of the extreme cold out on maneuvers. So, he went to the hospital to get that taken care of. So, the story that it was a cover up was not true. However, it is true about the gas and the tarp and everything. But the strangest damn thing about it is that the wind blew the tarp off. Talk about divine intervention. (News,Source: Darwin Lamm)

New DVD - Elvis The Sun King: The Mammoth label will release soon a DVD titled '' The Sun King ''. A lot of this footage from the May 1977 tour has circulated through the years but always in bad quality with washed out colors. For the first time, these will be available from an original source with full color and original Super 8mm films sound. This DVD will be NTSC (region free). Restored and revitalized: a new look at Presley, the SUN King. Elvis Presley, wearing his " Mexican sundial " jumpsuit, was nothing but a road warrior in his final year, giving more than 50 shows in five months. Despite what many critics claimed, on many nights Elvis still had the magic. The songs seen here prove it, all drawn from his penultimate tour in late May 1977. Behold, the one and only SUN King, Elvis Presley. View disc contents and larger cover image (News, Source: FECC)
