Before he died in August 1977, Elvis was a popular front cover story for the as popular TV & film "gossip" magazines. His death largely ended the "sensationalist" front page Elvis headlines in these magazines (leading to the even more sensational "Elvis" claims in the conspiracy driven tabloid magazines such as the National Enquirer, Star and Weekly World News).
