Raquel Welch on Elvis: Raquel Welch publicising her 2010 book 'Beyond the Cleavage' recently spoke to Wall Street Journal about her Elvis memories....
Raquel Welch ... I first saw Elvis Presley in concert in 1956, when I was 15 years old. He played the San Diego Arena in the spring, and my family lived in nearby La Jolla. "Heartbreak Hotel" was already a radio hit, and I couldn't get enough of it. Hearing that song was a real turning point for me as a teenager. When I saw him in action, he was mesmerizing. I screamed myself silly.
Something about his voice on that song made me think, "This must be what sex is all about." My girlfriends and I didn't have a lot of experience in that department, but you just knew Elvis had it all.
At the concert, Elvis was dressed in a pair of loose trousers, loafers, a shirt and open jacket. When he moved, he was smoldering. His hair fell over his eyes, his tone was sensual and he put a lot of body into it. His delivery on "Heartbreak
Hotel" was loaded with insinuation. The song was also in a minor key, which always triggered a sexy reaction in me.
When he slipped in those low-register Elvis-isms - you know, the huh-huh thing - it came from his body, not from his head. He had that emotional, erotic intensity that was impossible to resist.
I never imagined when I got to Hollywood in 1964 that my first job would be in an Elvis movie. In Roustabout, I was a day player with one line. I met Elvis briefly on the set, but his hair was sprayed, he was wearing stiff pants and a wimpy windbreaker. I was so disappointed. He wasn't the same guy I saw in concert.
After the shoot, one of his buddies came over and said, "Elvis is having a party at his house. He thought you might like to come by and have some fun." I wondered, "Why couldn't he ask me himself?" I didn't go.
Whenever I hear "Heartbreak Hotel" now, it takes me back. It reminds me of what a force Elvis was. He still is today. Sometimes I get misty-eyed over the whole thing.

Elvis and Subo Christmas duet - HEAR IT NOW!:Like it or not, the new 'O Come All You Faithful' duet has the chance of becoming Elvis' 22nd UK No.1. So grab a chance to listen to it before the Internet police remove it.
With Elvis Presley and Susan Boyle united across time and space, defying all mortal bonds their voices are joined together in song, with a living dead duet of 'O Come All You Faithful'. While some have described it as a travesty and further Elvis exploitation, EIN can only suggest you judge it for yourself.
CLICK HERE to YouTube to listen
The UK single is released on 9th December. The 'X' Factor single will not be released until 15th December. Looking likely that Elvis might get his 22nd UK No.1 on 15th December. On such duets both artists are credited with a No.1.

Breaking News From Marty Lacker at the Elvis Wedding Chapel!: "I just got word that former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura have decided after many years of marriage to renew their vows at the Elvis Graceland Chapel in Las Vegas on their anniversary November 18th.  It has been stated that their two daughters, Barbara and Jenna will be in attendance as well as his parents George Sr. and Barbara.  Rumor has it that former Presidents Clinton and Carter may attend along with their wives as well as Mr. & Mrs. Obama.  They specifically said they wanted the Vegas Elvis to remarry them."
---- This is about as true as that bullshit Kanye West and Kim Kardashian will wed there. (see EIN news story below)
I wonder where the hell the media keep getting this crap that connects West, Kardashian and Elvis. First they were going to buy Graceland and live there and now over the top publicity loving Kardashian will forfeit another garish
and luxurious wedding to simply go to the Vegas Chapel???
- Marty Lacker.

EIN sure appreciates Marty's sense of humour and acknowledges that the "West/Kardashian/Elvis" connection is very odd and contrived. However we do find it interesting that a) It appears the super-famous rapper Kayne West is an Elvis fan. b) Kim Kardashian‘s stepdad was married to Linda Thompson. In 2013 it is still a small world with some odd Elvis connections!
Marty notes even more Kardashian/ Elvis connections..
... There is another connection as Priscilla (after splitting with Mike Stone) dated Kim's father, lawyer Robert Kardashian. I met him in Atlanta when they attended a record convention together we sat at the same table during the awards presentation
Also there was Joan Esposito with Kardashian's brother Tom who she is now married to. - Marty

Ginger Alden Autobiography Now on Pre-Order: Elvis Presley’s fiancée and last love, Ginger Alden, will finally publish her much anticipated autobiography "Elvis and Ginger" in 2014. You can now pre-order the book.
She notes, “Elvis, you and I know the truth and unfortunately you’re not here to set the record straight. With this book, I will try to...”
For over three decades Ginger has held the truth of their relationship close to her heart. Now she shares her unique story, and while a lot has been written about the King, the Elvis we meet in this long-anticipated memoir is a revelation.
In her own words Ginger details their whirlwind romance—from first kiss to his stunning proposal of marriage. And for the very first time she talks about the devastating end of it all, and the 80,000 mourners and reporters who descended on Graceland in 1977, exposing Ginger to the reality of living in the spotlight of a short, yet immortal, life.
Above it all, Alden rescues Elvis from the hearsay, rumours, and tabloid speculations of his final year by shedding a frank yet personal light on a very public legend. From a unique and intimate perspective, she reveals the man- complicated, romantic, fallible, and human - behind the enduring myth, a superstar worshipped by millions, and loved by Ginger Alden.
From Berkley publishers, due out August 5, 2014.

'Things Get Loose In Tuscaloosa!' New Import: After the release of two essential new soundboard albums in a row (Houston We Have A Problem and The Creeping Crud Express) Audionics is now back with the third soundboard release of the year. This time from June 3rd 1975 8:30 pm, Municipal Auditorium, Tuscaloosa, AL (See Update below)
This which was previously released on the King label as Deep Down South in 1997 but this new release is taken from a different, superior quality tape source which was obtained at the same time as the previously mentioned unreleased soundboards.
Elvis’ show in Tuscaloosa is a real fun concert that is a delight to listen to. His singing is excellent, he’s in a good mood and he clearly loves the interplay with his fans. His setlist during the June 1975 tour was a rather strong one, with a solid mix of classics and more recent numbers. Most of these were performed really well too, and even the oldies were treated with a bit more respect than usual. Keen observers will note that he dropped the tempo a notch or two on songs like All Shook Up and Teddy Bear
/ Don’t Be Cruel. The King was truly back, and he really rocked Tuscaloosa with great dynamic performances like Burning Love, Mystery Train / Tiger Man and, just for tonight, a gorgeous Bridge Over Troubled Water.
This CD is presented in beautifully designed deluxe digi-pak with relevant liner notes and a couple of rare photos as taken on the night. Due to the lack of quality photographs from Tuscaloosa, we also used a few photos from the Huntsville, AL, May 31st 8:30 pm show. Elvis only wore the Red Eagle (or Red Phoenix) jumpsuit on these two nights.
We know what you want to ask now…. ‘Is this really a significant sound upgrade?’, and to that we can only answer wholeheartedly, yes!
Note: Audionics is planning a special release before the end of this year, with more previously unissued material. While the other import guys appear to be in hibernation, we are only just warming up! You can always count on Audionics to deliver the goods.
Go to EIN's 'All the CD News 2013' for more details and full tracklist
PS: EIN thanks Martin S (a Uni of Alabama graduate) who noted that Elvis in fact performed in the Memorial Coliseum that night and not the "Municipal Auditorium."
The Auditorium only held 3,500 people, it was replaced by the much larger Memorial Coliseum (15,000) in 1968.
Interestingly the CD's sleeve artwork will include an original ticket stub where the venue is correctly noted.

Latest Billboard Album Charts: Sadly Elvis had no albums on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart for w/e 2nd November, 2013. Oddly it is the old 'It's Christmas Time' compilation charting highest rather than the new 2013 compilation 'Merry Christmas...Love, Elvis' available at $7.
On the Holiday Album Chart Elvis had the following entries:
- 'It's Christmas Time' - 8
- 'Merry Christmas Love, Elvis' - 10
- 'Blue Christmas' - 46
On the Music Video Sales Chart Elvis had the following entry:
- 'He Touched Me - The Gospel Music Of Elvis Presley' (Vols. 1 and 2) - 37.
Also 'The Real Elvis' compilation on the Irish charts dropped from #49 to #59.

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian to marry in Elvis Chapel?: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West may only be celebrating their engagement but they have already checked Elvis Presley's Graceland Chapel in Vegas as a potential venue for their wedding.
Speculation over where the couple's nuptials will take place has already started, and it looks like they could be saying "I do" in Las Vegas.
According to sources, rapper Kayne West is a big Elvis Presley fan and would love to get married at a chapel in Sin City.
Media has noted that, "Kanye is a big Elvis fan and he thinks it would be fun to get married in a chapel. It was his suggestion and he was surprised when Kim said it was a great idea. Before he proposed, the couple checked out the Graceland Wedding Chapel, where Jon Bon Jovi got wed, as well as Miley Cyrus' parents."
Kardashian‘s stepdad is Bruce Jenner who was originally married to Linda Thompson will walk her down the aisle!

Ginger Alden Autobiography for August 2014!: Elvis Presley’s fiancée and last love, Ginger Alden, will finally publish her much anticipated autobiography in 2014.
She notes, “Elvis, you and I know the truth and unfortunately you’re not here to set the record straight. With this book, I will try to...”
Elvis Presley and Graceland were fixtures in the life of Ginger Alden, having been born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. But she had no idea that she would play a part in that enduring legacy as Elvis Presley’s fiancée, and his last great love.
She details his exploration of Eastern religions, his perception of being a “legend,” his devotion to family and friends, and her attempt to know the insular group surrounding Elvis. And for the very first time she talks about the devastating end of it all, and the 80,000 mourners and reporters who descended on Graceland in 1977, exposing Ginger to the reality of living in the spotlight of a short, yet immortal, life.

Colonel Parker's Office for Sale On EBay: Colonel Tom Parker's management office on Gallatin Pike in Madison stands as a testament to the old cliché,  "if these walls could talk.” As confined within a cluster of unassuming stone buildings, the walls would tell of unconventional business dealings, old venues booked, and colourful stories of how a Dutch immigrant managed the phenomenal career of Elvis Presley the most significant and charismatic recording artist to ever grace a stage.
Today the property located in an unassuming suburb on the outskirts of Nashville, is available to the highest bidder on ebay.
Now a law office, Parker once brokered some of the biggest deals ever made in the entertainment business at the stone residence making it a “holy grail” for the most discriminating “collector” and Elvis Presley / music aficionado.
Parker maintained the offices even after Elvis dominated the entertainment world. Meanwhile, he also managed such legendary
Country & Western recording artists as Eddy Arnold and Hank Snow. Photographs and books document their casual "drop ins" to see the Colonel. The home has been well preserved over the years, decades from 1956 and 1957, when Elvis would swing by following recording sessions at RCA or en-route back to Memphis, to Audubon Drive or his new Graceland mansion.
Just minutes from downtown Nashville, the Grand Ole Opry and Hank Snow's Rainbow Ranch in an adjacent neighbourhood, the property remains extremely well maintained, having retained MUCH of the original 1950's charm, as noted in the knotty pine paneling, entertainment bar, and pink-and-black and aqua tiled bathrooms.
The property will be showcased on ebay with strict bidding criteria, starting the second week of October. Private tours will be available
to a select qualified few during the duration of the sale. The property is zoned for multiple use.
When it was first sold, a substantial amount of Col Parker's Elvis Memorabilia was found in the basement and later collected by Graceland. Sadly it is doubtful that any Elvis precious possessions are now hidden it its walls.
Go HERE to Ebay for details and to purchase!-Starting bid $100,000.

Thursday 24 October 2013 --- Today with TEN Big Elvis News stories ---
Elvis Presley #2 Forbes Top-Earning Dead Celebrity: With two touring Cirque du Soleil shows it is no surprise that Michael Jackson once again topped the Forbes list of Top-Earning Dead Celebrities, earning $160 million over the past year.
Jackson reclaims the No.1 spot from his friend Elizabeth Taylor who last year earned $210 million due to lucrative auctions of her jewellery and clothes.
Back up at Number Two is Elvis with an estimated $55 million in posthumous earnings. This is a similar amount flowing in to EPE's coffers as in the last two years - even with the closure of his Cirque Du Soleil show in Vegas.
The King of Rock n’ Roll may have taken a back seat to the King of Pop the past few years but Elvis' estate is still earning steadily thanks to his eternally popular image, the internationally touring video-concerts and the stream of revenue from Graceland and the ever-expanding EPE licensed products.
Top five Forbes magazine Top-Earning Dead Celebrities.
1. Michael Jackson $160 million
2. Elvis Presley $55 million
3. Charles Schulz ('Peanuts' creator) $37 million.
4. Elizabeth Taylor $25 million.
5. Bob Marley $18 million.
Interestingly Madonna is the top earning living Celebrity taking $125 million last year, less than the late Michael Jackson!
As Gore Vidal once noted, "Death is a good career move"!
Elvis left the building 36 years ago - will Michael Jackson still be in the list in 30 years time? - EIN truly has its doubts.

'Elvis At Stax' - NOT Deleted: Despite the news stories being posted around various Elvis websites, 'Elvis At Stax' is definitely NOT deleted. EIN wonders why webmasters don't check stories such as this before posting this kind of news.
Sony/FTD's Roger Semon confirmed to EIN that 'Elvis At Stax' is definitely not deleted and that sales are good.
It appears that the erroneous news came from another Australian Elvis website who is trying to sell 'Elvis At Stax' to fans for close to twice the price that you can buy it in Australia's local record stores! (If you live in Australia click here to buy it for only $33 from Sanity or ask at your local JBHiFi)
While it is true that all of Sony Australia's 'Elvis At Stax' local stock is depleted due to its popularity and it being all shifted out to shops, their Director of Commercial Music informed EIN that "Sony Australia prefers to order what people really need - but we can still order more copies in for any orders via our Indent service."

UK's 'The Nation’s Favourite Elvis Song' Programme Details: This UK 90-minute special tells the story behind the 20 greatest songs ever recorded by Elvis Presley and reveals The Nation’s Favourite Elvis Song. Being shown on UK's ITV channel - Friday 8 Nov 2013, 9.00pm - 10.30pm
Elvis Presley changed the music world forever and was one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century. He holds the record for Most Hit Singles on the US Chart and Most Hit Albums on the UK Chart, and his legacy continues to influence generations.
Mixing rich archive footage and home videos with new interviews, the documentary paints a picture of the man behind the music, telling the story of how these timeless songs came about and what impact they had on the world.
The show features different generations of international pop stars and musicians influenced by Elvis including Michael Bublé, Sir Cliff Richard, Suzi Quatro, Michael Ball, Englebert Humperdink and Cerys Matthews.
Priscilla Presley, Elvis’ ex-wife is also featured exclusively in the documentary, giving a rare interview about the King and his music.
Priscilla says: “When Elvis sang a song that he loved, he’d get lost. He’d forget people were around. You’re witnessing a moment, you almost feel like you’re invading his privacy.”
Sir Cliff Richard admits: “It wasn’t just that I wanted to be like Elvis, I wanted to wake up and find I was Elvis.” Global superstar Michael Bublé said: “God kissed his throat, truly.” Musical theatre star Michael Ball said: “No one makes a party rock like Elvis.”
The programme also hears from those who worked with Elvis, from songwriters to backing singers and session musicians.
The documentary ventures into Elvis’ former home in Memphis, Graceland, following in the footsteps of nearly 20 million visitors, to see how popular the King remains to this day.
The 20 classic Elvis tracks featured in the show have been selected in consultation with EPE based on record sales, cultural impact and significance in Elvis’s career. The order was voted for by a large, representative panel of ITV viewers from across the country.
All the songs from the programme are to feature on a brand new compilation album, ‘The Nation’s Favourite Elvis Songs’, released on 4 November 2013 from Sony Music.

Marty Lacker on 'Elvis The Seeker': Marty Lacker wrote to EIN to present his thoughts on the new book (see news story below) 'Elvis The Seeker'.
Marty Lacker writes.... "I read the article about the new Elvis Seeker book, are you sure the author isn't Larry Geller using an alias! This has all of his California Cult Crap that he espouses all over it.
Don't misunderstand, Elvis was a spiritual person but as a Christian not as a disciple of Geller's Far Eastern Spiritual nonsense.
First of all, what a HUGE exaggeration in saying Elvis read thousands of books on spirituality when at the most it was ten and that's stretching it.  They were books fed to him by Geller, who both Elvis, I and a few others suspected he had ulterior motives in getting Elvis hooked on that crap and in fact Geller revealed part of what he was up to while we were on the bus travelling to Hollywood in the 60's. For which I had to set Geller straight on because Elvis was put in an embarrassing position when Geller said what he did.  That's not just my opinion, Elvis stated that later when we all stopped at a motel to get some sleep. Elvis' head got so screwed up by all that junk that Parker finally talked Elvis into getting rid of Geller and burn the books in 1967.  As for Elvis' so-called epiphany in Arizona, all it was was a cloud formations that looked like famous people including himself which means a total of ZERO importance.  I hate to say this but I do from personal experience in taking them, pills make you see things and interpret them in the way you want them to.

For whatever reason, Elvis took Geller back full-time in late '76, not '72 as Geller likes to tell people. Having said all this, I have always thought Geller was a nice guy and I wish him no ill-will, I just don't like what he did to Elvis. I nicknamed him The Swami.
As for this book, it seems to me this guy Tillery read some of Geller's stuff and sat down at a computer and embellished and exaggerated much of it.

Elvis believed in God very deeply even though he didn't go to church. He didn't go for two reasons, one he didn't want the attention put on him by the church goers and taken away from the services as it would have been. Secondly, he was upset and disheartened by the preachers because he said every time he saw them they had their hand out wanting money and like a few of us, he didn't believe religion was about money.
Elvis gave to charity and he did it the right way, anonymously.
- Thousands of spiritual books--MY ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Elvis Inspired Scottish Trust Receives Royal Seal of Approval: The Elvis inspired ‘Symphony of Dreams’ Charitable Trust in Glasgow, Scotland, has received the Royal Seal of Approval as the charity is recognised by The Queen with this prestigious Award.
As a child, artist Linda Ann McConnell (author of The Dreamer, Memphis Lullaby) became so acquainted with her mum’s record collection from the 1950s that American blues and rock and roll music became the soundtrack of her childhood. This created a musical landscape which defined her art and established a creative path which would lead her on a journey in different artforms and inspired the creation of a charity, Elvis Presley became her first muse.
Linda Ann says, "Elvis' voice was the first poetry I had ever heard. His song was the first I ever sang too. His music, the first I had ever danced to. I was five years old when I first saw him. I saw my dreams in Elvis Presley. My dream was to meet ‘The King.’ Unfortunately my dream would never come true... so I founded The ‘Symphony of Dreams’ Charitable Trust in 2000 to try to help other’s make their ‘musical dreams’ come true, especially the dreams to meet musical heroes.
In 2008 I read in Larry Geller’s Leaves of Elvis Garden book that Elvis had said, "I wanna start a charity I would love to do somethin’ for kids who are sufferin’ an’ have incurable diseases." I hope Symphony answered that dream in some way?"
Her Majesty the Queen was gracious to confer the ‘Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award for Voluntary Service’ on 2nd June 2013 upon the Trust in recognition of outstanding voluntary service. The Trust has received the Award for making

‘musical dreams’ come true since the year 2000 for people of all generations from the city of Glasgow with life-shortening conditions, are chronically sick, disabled, disadvantaged or who may suffer from the effects of poverty. It does this by granting a ‘musical dream.’ From the Founder’s one dream the charity has granted over 100 individual ‘musical dreams’ and created over ten unique group ‘How Great Thou Art music projects’ for over 1000 disadvantaged beneficiaries designed to inspire musical dreams and musical aspirations
The Queen’s Award was presented at the City Chambers on 30 August 2013. In her speech Linda Ann McConnell noted, "This is the greatest honour for The Symphony of Dreams Trust….. and one of the best moments of my life… Thank you for sharing this moment with me.
When I was a child I was a dreamer. When I was five years old my dream was to meet Elvis Presley. Sadly, my dream would never come true… So I created ‘The Symphony of Dreams Trust’ to try to help others make their dreams come true… especially the dreams to meet musical heroes…
So tonight I would like to thank ‘the King’ and ‘the Queen.’"

'Silver Elvis' Voted Best Street Act: Peter Jarvis had his first introduction to miming back in the Soul Train days. He remembers being enthralled by the robot dance. When it came time to make it as a performer, Jarvis had one fear. He had read about celebrities dying young and though he craved the fame, he didn’t crave misfortune.
But on his second week of performing as Silver Elvis in downtown Toronto, he was a hit. Clad in silver from head to toe, Jarvis resembles a 3D hologram of the King when fully suited up. The makeup is water-based and thickly applied.
As people passed by they would yell, “look at the Silver Elvis”. That’s how Jarvis earned the moniker for his rock ‘n’ roll character, one of many he plays.
It’s often hard for Jarvis to keep a straight face while passersby debate whether or not Silver Elvis is human or robot. His years of mime training enable him to stay in character.
Silver Elvis sightings have been witnessed from the United States, New Zealand, Ireland, Malaysia, and coast to coast in Canada. The Toronto Sun voted "Silver Elvis best street act in Toronto".
“That’s the power of mime,” says Jarvis. “It’s a great illusion. It activates the imagination. You don’t know if the illusion is real or if you’ve dreamt it.”
Jarvis has been teaching mime acts to a class of special needs children. While Jarvis has mastered multiple characters, Silver Elvis makes up about 40 per cent of his business. He dons the silver suit and paint at least 200 times a year.

'The Seeker King' New Book: In his new book 'The Seeker King: A Spiritual Biography of Elvis Presley' - published this month - author Gary Tillery explores the an alternative side of the King, as a seeker eager to grasp life's secret meanings and to explore a whole range of spiritual paths.
Gary Tillery presents a coherent view of Elvis’ thoughts through such anecdotes and other recorded facts. We learn, for instance, that Elvis read thousands of books on religion; that his crisis over making bimbo movies like Girl Happy led him to writers such as Gurdjieff, Krishnamurti, and Helena Blavatsky; and that, while driving in Arizona, an epiphany he had inspired him to learn Hindu practice. Elvis came to believe that the Christ shines in everyone and that God wanted him to use his light to uplift people. And so he did. Elvis’ excesses were as legendary as his generosity, yet, despite his lethal reliance on drugs, he remained ever spiritually curious. At one concert a woman in the audience once handed Elvis a crown saying, "You’re the King." "No, honey," Elvis replied. "There is only one king — Jesus Christ. I’m just a singer."
The author notes that when he started researching the spiritual life of Elvis he had no idea that Elvis had explored such unfamiliar terrain investigating hundreds of figures associated with the "New Age" movement that began in the Sixties. Elvis' exploration led to a dramatic revelation along an Arizona highway in 1965, and he continued his search, in spite of the ups and downs of his enthralling life, until the very moment of his death in 1977.
This intimate, objective portrait inspires new admiration for the flawed but exceptional man who said, "All I want is to know and experience God. I’m a searcher, that’s what I’m all about."

Lisa Marie Confirms new Elvis Presley Movie: In a recent discussion with the media, Lisa Marie Presley confirmed that talks for a big screen film about the life of her father Elvis have begun and she is all for a credible new biopic.
Without her naming the production it is likely to be 'Last Train to Memphis' which is in pre-production for Fox 2000 with rumoured ('Marley'/'Last King of Scotland') director Kevin MacDonald. Based on the 1995 Peter Guralnick biography, the film chronicles Presley’s early years and his transformation from a high school kid to an overnight sensation credited with ushering in a radical new era in music.
Mick Jagger and Victoria Pearman will produce through their Jagged Films banner along with Steven Bing, who will produce through his Shangri-La shingle. John Fusco is adapting the script.
Jagger has been championing musical biopics lately, clearly a natural fit for the seasoned rocker and he’s also producing a James Brown biopic starring Chadwick Boseman.

Nashville Music City Exhibit Pays Homage to Elvis: A new art exhibit at the Nashville Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum not only showcases 50 years of Elvis, but also the artist. Betty Harper has drawn The King more than anyone else in the world! She actually started drawing him as a child. The first Elvis I drew was an outline. It was his chin, hairline going up and down and that pom. Some of those first drawings are where the progressive art exhibit - "50 Years with Elvis" begins. The journey continues decades later - to the first Elvis drawing she was ever paid for. Then around the corner is a picture of her Elvis billboard, which was displayed in Memphis to commemorate the one year anniversary of his death. Ironically the images were drawn, the day died.
Today Harper's art is much different than it was 50 years go. The computer has changed things. Harper has drawn roughly 10-thousand images of Elvis. This exhibit only gives you a small taste of her work. From a child that was intrigued by The King, to an Elvis super fan and eventually the official artist for EPE. These images make it easy to see why Betty Harper is known for capturing the spirit of Elvis like no one else can. The art exhibit will be on display all the way till end of 2013 and it's totally free.

Scottish Government set to Buy Elvis Airport: The Scottish government is to buy Prestwick airport, best known as the only place Elvis Presley officially ever stood on British soil, to prevent the closure of the unprofitable terminal located 30 miles southwest of Glasgow.
The government plans to complete due diligence and detailed talks with Prestwick’s New Zealand-based owner, within six weeks.
While passenger numbers at Prestwick totaled 900,000 last year, its terminal can handle 3 million passengers a year and could easily be expanded to accommodate 10 million. In its heyday, the base served as a trans-Atlantic gateway and staging post for U.S. aircraft during World War II.
Prestwick still has Scotland’s longest runways, and with a lower incidence of fog than any other airport in Britain is often used as a diversionary terminal when others are closed.
Elvis landed at Prestwick in 1960 on his way back to the U.S. from Germany after completing mandatory military service.
There is a bar in the departure lounge, called "The Elvis Lounge".
Perhaps they could re-name it Elvis Presley Airport.

Elvis' letter To Nixon in new book "Letters of Note": In our age of email and texts, letter-writing seems set for extinction.
But after four years of collecting the letters of the famous and the brilliant, for his on-line blog Shaun Usher decided to sit down and write one of his own. 'Letters of Note' contains 125 examples that range from a clay tablet in the 14th century BC to almost the present day. The authors usually need little introduction – Mick Jagger, Ernest Hemingway, Katharine Hepburn and Leonardo da Vinci among them – but the sentiments they express might cause you to look at them in a different way.
The surprises start with the first letter, a handwritten note from the Queen to US president Dwight D Eisenhower in 1960. In relaxed, unstuffy script, she begins: "Seeing a picture of you in today's newspaper standing in front of a barbecue grilling quail reminded me that I had never sent you the recipe of the drop scones which I promised you at Balmoral."
One of the featured letters of importance from the last three thousand years is Elvis Presley's letter to Richard Nixon, 1970!
Elvis was an avid collector of police badges – and so keen to get his hands on one from the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs that he took a flight to the White House to hand deliver this letter.
"Dear Mr President, First, I would like to introduce myself. I am Elvis Presley and admire you and have great respect for your office. I talked to vice-president Agnew in Palm Springs three weeks ago and expressed my concerns for our country. The drug culture, the hippie elements, the SDS, Black Panthers, etc do not

consider me as their enemy or as they call it, the establishment. I call it America and I love it. Sir, I can and will be of any service that I can to help the country out. I have no concerns or motives other than helping the country out...."

Forty years ago Elvis and Priscilla Divorce: Forty years ago on October 9, 1973, Elvis and Priscilla Beaulieu Presley's six-year marriage officially came to an end: their divorce became finalised at the LA Superior Courthouse in Santa Monica.
The marriage, Elvis' one and only, which also produced his one and only child, Lisa Marie was marred by numerous accounts of infidelity and discord. And this tempestuous time, which left Elvis in a broken emotional state, was captured on record in an often overlooked song released by the King.
'Separate Ways', recorded in March 1972 as things started to fall apart, is by no means unknown to Elvis fans at large and it was certified gold in the US. However, it's the B-side of that single which became the better-known Elvis hit, the country ballad 'Always on My Mind' charting Top Ten in Europe.
While both songs are broodingly morose, 'Separate Ways' which details the effects of divorce on a couple's young child, contains particularly heart-ripping lyrics such as "Some day when she's older, maybe she will understand/Why her mom and dad are not together/The tears that she will cry when I have to say goodbye/Will tear at my heart forever."
Although some critics over the years have taken issue with the song's
overall arrangement the general consensus is that the pain in Elvis' vocals is extraordinarily genuine.
The deeply personal feel to 'Separate Ways' comes in part from co-writer Red West, one of Presley's closest friends since high school who worked as a bodyguard and was a member of Presley's infamous Memphis Mafia. West, who began penning the lyrics with his own marital issues in mind, decided midway through the composition that it was pertinent to Elvis and tailored the song to the Presleys' separation.
According to co-writer Richard Mainegra, West was determined the song was a good fit for Elvis, despite Mainegra's protests that the superstar would not want to spotlight what was already a very public situation. However, the King did cut the song, much to Mainegra's surprise, along with 'Always on My Mind' at roughly the same time.
West agrees that the song triggered an authentic catharsis for his friend: the pain you're hearing is real.
Red West said that the songs definitely got to him, Elvis told him at the recording session, "Man, you're killing me with these songs."
Go HERE for EIN's interview special with Red West.

Authentic Brands in lead for EPE purchase: It appears that Authentic Brands, which owns the rights to Marilyn Monroe’s name and image, has emerged as the lead bidder for the Elvis Presley and Muhammad Ali assets being sold by Apollo’s Core Media.
The brand licensing company, backed by private-equity firm Leonard Green, has been in the hunt for a while but recently upped its offer to $125 million, according to sources.
That’s $15 million more than a bidding consortium led by the G2 Group, which teamed with music publishing firm Sony/ATV and Highbridge Capital.
Authentic rival Iconix also was initially interested.
Besides the name and likeness of Elvis, Core Media is looking to unload the Graceland tour operation and Elvis’ music publishing assets as it focuses on its TV production interests.
While the negotiations are ongoing, executives of Authentic Brands, headed by Jamie Salter, have met with the two famous families involved.
Authentic has snapped up the rights dead celebrities, including reggae legend Bob Marley, in addition to buying fashion brands such as Hickey Freeman suits and Spyder ski wear.

Linda Thompson Heads for Australia: She is the mother of two reality stars and the ex-wife of the patriarche of the Kardashian family, Bruce Jenner, but that doesn't mean Linda Thompson is okay with celebrity culture.
The 63-year-old actress and lyricist is mum to Brandon and Brody Jenner, who have appeared in shows like Laguna Beach, The Hills, Princes of Malibu and Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
And although Thompson admits she has never watched an episode of the Kardashians, she has plenty to say about the crazy culture it creates.
"People get a little sidelined thinking that fame and fortune is going to bring them happiness, peace and contentment in their lives, everyone thinks they want to be famous until the paparazzi are in their face and then they're asking 'Just give me some privacy'. I'm sorry, but that's not what you signed on for."
And she would know. The former beauty queen dated Elvis for three years, which threw her into the international spotlight. After he passed away she went on to have a career as an actress, comedian and lyricist.

So, how precisely did Tim Rice get the chance to work with his idol Elvis? "Gosh, long story," Rice relates.
"Basically, I knew Elvis' music publisher, Freddie Beanstalk, and he said, 'If you guys got a song that would suit Elvis, then I'll try to get it to him,'" Rice says of the meeting. "So, two days later we gave him two songs, and Elvis recorded it "It's Easy For You" about three years later."
"It was on Elvis' last album before he was tragically taken from us," Rice adds on a historical note.
"It was the last track on the last side of his last album and we thought, 'My God' perhaps we might have finished him off!"

Elvis Bombed on the Grand Ole Opry 59 Years Ago: Elvis Presley wasn’t swayed by discouragement, and it’s a good thing. The singer made his first - and last - Grand Ole Opry appearance on Oct 2nd 1954, and it didn’t go as well as he had hoped. (right, Elvis live in July 1954)
The music icon performed on the famous stage in the very early part of his career, debuting his high-energy brand of rockabilly with ‘Blue Moon of Kentucky.’ His innovative music and gyrating performance however were not received well at the conservative establishment. Grand Ole Opry manager Jim Denny afterwards told Sam Philips that Elvis' music did not fit their format - but did tell Sam Phillips that, "This boy is not bad".
The lack of interest from the Grand Ole Opry may have been a blessing in disguise. The King of Rock and Roll went to the Opry’s biggest competitor, the live radio show ‘Louisiana Hayride,’ only two weeks later, and signed a contract to make 52 Saturday night appearances on the show, helping launch his legendary career.
Presley went on to sell what RCA has estimated at more than one billion albums worldwide. The RIAA has certified sales of more than 134 million in the US alone. 149 Presley tunes landed in the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with 18 going all the way to No. 1.

Brooklyn Army Terminal Now Open to Public: History buffs, architecture fans, and Elvis fans may want to check out the Brooklyn Army Terminal – now opening to the public for the first time. New Yorkers now get to see what's behind the gates with a new tour which takes visitors inside the 95-year-old industrial complex, which up until now has been only accessible to workers.
The tour reveals the history of the complex, including what may be the most famous face to stop there: Elvis Presley, who shipped out of the waterfront site (as shown right). "In 1958, he came through here on his way to his station in Germany after being drafted into the United States Army," says tour guide Andrew Gustafson.
The terminal was built in 1918 to store military supplies and ship them to American troops fighting in Europe during the First World War. But it's had many uses over the years.
During the Prohibition era in the 1920s it was used as warehouse to store seized alcohol by the federal government. Millions of bottles of alcohol that were stored were then taken down to the piers at the Brooklyn Army Terminal to be smashed and poured

into New York harbor. Tours of the facility are given twice a month, and take visitors to an atrium in one of the main buildings that's lined with diagonal concrete balconies.

Even in the digital world Elvis Presley is still the King: The performance rights organization SoundExchange that collects royalties from more than 2,000 digital music services, ranks ELVIS as the most frequently streamed artist of the past decade, followed by Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam.
Contemporary R&B and hip-hop acts are well represented on the Sound Exchange list, with Rihanna ranking No. 4, Drake No. 5, Usher No. 6 and Lil Wayne No. 7. But the list clearly favors classic rock acts, with The Beatles coming in at No. 8 and the Grateful Dead at No. 10. Country-pop queen Taylor Swift completes the list, ranking ninth.
"I find it interesting you've got Elvis Presley, you've got The Beatles," says Marie Knowles, SoundExchange's vice president of communication. "They're among the most listened to on this new platform. These are iconic rock acts, and they've got staying power."
Satellite radio appears to have a particularly heavy influence on the rankings. The top three acts — Presley, Springsteen and Pearl Jam – all have dedicated channels on Sirius XM, as does the Grateful Dead.

Priscilla says don't compare Miley Cyrus to Elvis: Priscilla Presley took a positive stand in support of Elvis recently when she declared that the Miley Cyrus "twerking" controversy had no business being compared to the early days of Elvis' career.
In an interview on Sirius Elvis Radio, Priscilla responded to comparisons that have been made by pundits and others that Miley Cyrus' controversial performance on the MTV Video Music Awards in August was similar to the initial outrage at Elvis Presley for his sexually-charged dance moves. (EIN notes that it DID cause the same Media reaction, which is surely what both wanted.)
In the 1950s, Elvis Presley's shaking and grinding of his hips and legs were considered vulgar by some, earning him the nickname "Elvis the Pelvis." Elvis' June 5, 1956 appearance on The Milton Berle Show (right) provoked a public outcry against the singer protesting his "shocking" dance moves. This led to a toned-down performance by Elvis subsequently on The Steve Allen Show and a censored above-the-waist view on The Ed Sullivan Show.
However, Priscilla Presley maintains that Elvis' dance moves were never "planned or contrived." These were natural movements that
Elvis felt compelled to express as he was performing. Priscilla stressed that Elvis' performance was authentic and "not calculated" like so many performances are today in the music industry, specifically the Miley Cyrus twerking performance. Priscilla further voiced her opinion describing Elvis as extremely "talented and authentic" which is just what today's music business is lacking.
Miley's father, Billy Ray Cyrus, admits that his daughter's performance on the MTV VMA's was strategically planned. Priscilla Presley's remarks remind us that Elvis did not dance around for "shock" value. As Elvis told TV Guide in 1956: "I just get kinda in rhythm with the music. I jump around to it because I enjoy what I'm doin'. I'm not tryin' to be vulgar, I'm not tryin' to sell any sex... I just enjoy what I'm doin' and tryin' to make the best of it."

Marty Lacker comments on Elvis and Posthumous Earnings: Marty Lacker has written to EIN wanting to clarify....
.. I agree with you for the most part about the desecration of Elvis' iconic music.  I can tell you that Priscilla, who Elvis really didn't want to have anything to do with his estate will do anything for a buck. (see EIN's Subo/Elvis story below - and Home Bedding story above!)
However I write this to clarify the last part of your story in regard to the comparison of what Elvis makes each year and what Michael Jackson does.  Elvis' earnings are derived solely on what Elvis performed himself, where as the reason Jackson earns so much money is because of the music publishing of other songwriters and artists that his manager and present executor of his estate, John Branca, shrewdly did back then.  John Branc,
Jackson's Attorney / Manager made a deal for Michael to buy 50% of a major Music Publishing company of all the Beatles Songs which pissed Paul McCartney off because he bid against Branca to buy it and  now the catalogue also includes Elvis' music and that of other big names.  Michael really didn't do anything in regards to that it was all Branca and his partner, that song catalogue is worth close to a BILLION Dollars and that is what is counted as Michael's earnings in death.  If you took that out of the picture Elvis would probably still be number one in death as he was in life.
Thanks - Marty

Florida Theatre re-opening 30th Aniv celebration: One of former Jacksonville Mayor Jake Godbold’s most vivid memories of the Florida was taking his future wife Jean there in August 1956 to see 21-year-old Elvis Presley perform in concert - shown right. Presley’s performance style had earned him the nickname "Elvis the Pelvis," which alarmed many of the adults of Jacksonville.
Presley was summoned to meet with Juvenile Court Judge Marion W. Gooding, who told Presley he could perform, but he needed to tone down his hysteria-inducing style and keep his hips still. To make sure Presley complied with his instructions, Gooding sat in the front row, monitoring Presley’s movement. "Those are the kind of memories we had about the theater," Godbold said.
He remembered the movies that showed on the big screen in Jacksonville’s greatest movie palace, movies such as 'Gone with the Wind' and other classics.
So when civic leaders came to him in the early 1980s, during his first term as Jacksonville’s mayor, asking for help in saving the theater, which had closed on May 8, 1980, Godbold said yes. The money was raised, the building was renovated as a performing arts center and on Oct. 1, 1983,
That’s why he’s one of four people who will be honored when the Florida Theatre celebrates the 30th anniversary of its reopening.

The Nation's Capital Is On Rock 'N' Roll Alert!: Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash helped set the stage for what would become one of the most influential musical revolutions of the 20th Century -- or any century for that matter -- the birth of rock 'n' roll.
Picture it. It's December 4, 1956. The place: Sun Records' storefront studio in Memphis, TN. The "Father of Rock 'n' Roll," Sam Phillips, who discovered all four musical icons, unite Elvis, Jerry Lee, Carl and Johnny for an impromptu recording session that is now labeled "one of the greatest rock 'n' roll jam sessions of all time."
The Tony Award musical, "Million Dollar Quartet" now at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. through Oct. 6.
"Million Dollar Quartet" features an extraordinary cast which includes James Barry (Carl Perkins), John Countryman (Jerry Lee Lewis), Tyler Hunter (Elvis Presley) and Scott Moreau (Johnny Cash). Their renditions of each icon's signature songs: "Blue Suede Shoes," "Ring of Fire," Great Balls of Fire," "That's All Right," "I Walk the Line," "Hound Dog," "Folsom Prison Blues" and "Whole Lotta Shakin ' Goin' On" leaves the audience breathless... and panting for more, more, more!
Playing the king of rock 'n' roll has to be intimidating one would think. "It feels great," says 23-year-old Tyler Hunter who nailed the Presley persona -- and THAT voice. "I really enjoy it, as I originated as an Elvis fan. It's an honor to portray him every single night. I studied some of his movies and clips of his interviews. I wouldn't necessarily say that I have him 'down' but I try my best to be as authentic as possible. I always thought Elvis was cool and there was definitely one point when I sat back and said 'I wish I could be like him' but I never thought I would get this kind of opportunity."
Rock 'n' roll will never die. Never!

UPDATED - Elvis Music FAQ - Mike Eder Interview: The soon to be released book 'Elvis Music FAQ' chronicles the trajectory of Elvis’ musical career, with a look at his pioneering original record label Sun, insight into his management, a summation of each Presley concert tour, and a full review of every record he ever issued.
Author Mike Eder is a writer and vinyl record aficionado and in his book he gives a fresh perspective on old albums and rediscovers the impact of Elvis’ creative genius, getting to the heart of why records recorded six decades ago still have such a grip on the world’s imagination.

Plenty of EIN readers have pre-ordered the book and want to know more.
What format does the book take, was Felton Jarvis a good producer, was Colonel Parker good or bad, what was Elvis' worst record, Elvis' most overlooked record, did 'Do The Clam' really chart higher than 'Kentucky Rain' ....

Elvis and Subo duet is like defacing an old Master!: Susan Boyle is using the voice of dead singer Elvis Presley for a Christmas duet on 'O Come All Ye Faithful' – and journalist Neil McCormick objects.
Elvis was the King of Rock ’n’ Roll who changed popular music forever. She once came second in a televised talent contest. Now Elvis Presley and Susan Boyle are to be united across time and space, defying all mortal bonds as their voices join together in song, a living dead duet of O Come All You Faithful. It is a musical match made in … well, I don’t know where. Not heaven, anyway. A digital editing suite on a computer hard drive, I suppose. Or the boardroom of a record company marketing department.
News of a forthcoming release by Elvis and Subo should bring a dreary chill to the soul of any music lover. They will call it a duet
but that is like defacing an old master with graffiti and calling it a collaboration. You can hear the Presley version, recorded in 1971, performed as he intended in an arrangement he was presumably happy with. And now you will be able to hear it with another voice wrapped around, and perhaps some new strings and bits and pieces added by a producer who probably wasn’t even born when Elvis died. "Isn’t technology brilliant?" in the words of Boyle herself.
The Boyle camp are stressing the legitimacy of the exercise by underlining that permission was personally granted not just by the anonymous Presley estate but by his ex-wife, Priscilla, who still carries the Presley name despite divorcing him in 1972. But the one person who has no say in the matter is, of course, the very person whose name and image is being used to sell the recording.
Now, I wouldn’t go so far as to suggest that Elvis himself would have actually objected to this money spinning exercise. But I object, as a fan and a music lover. In fact, I object to this whole posthumous exploitation industry.
Death is big business in entertainment. Forbes prints lists of the highest earning dead celebrities, many of whom earn vastly greater sums than even the highest earning living stars. Elvis is always up there, turning over $55 million last year, although that is dwarfed by Michael Jackson, a man who was close to bankruptcy when he died. Some artists are worth more dead than alive, perhaps because the dead can never say no.

Dee Stanley Has Passed Away: Dee Stanley passed away Sunday 29 September. It was reported back in July, when she was in hospital, that her condition was seriously deteriorating - but for a while she improved.
Today Billy Stanley sadly noted, "I watched my Mom step into heaven.. I'm Thankful my brothers and I were there for her."
David Stanley wrote "Mom just passed. She is with The Lord now."

Vernon Presley married Davada (Dee) Elliot Stanley on July 3, 1960. Elvis always had a close relationship with his father but when his mother died in 1958, his father then started dating a married woman named Dee Stanley. Elvis didn’t care for Dee thinking that it was too soon after Gladys' death for his father to be dating again. When Vernon and Dee Stanley married in July 1960 Elvis did not attend the ceremony.

New Elvis Art Exhibition in Goulburn, Australia: Two hours south of Sydney and 1 hour north of Canberra is the Australian country town of Goulburn. For two weeks the South Hill Gallery is hosting "Elvis Moody Blue" an Elvis art exhibition featuring Australian artists Martin Sharp, Jim Anderson, Max Cullen, Lesley Dimmick and others.

Artist Jim Anderson talks about the exhibition opening this last weekend.
"Yes I was an early guilt ridden Elvis tragic from the start, captured by his synthesis of hillbilly, black race music, the blues and white popular music back then. Guilt ridden because he came from a dirt poor white trailer trash background and my parents were horrified at my passion for him at the time. I took my little sister to see 'Love Me Tender' and my mother later said "Don't you ever take your little sister to a film like that again. I think you are getting much to close to her." It was Elvis' dancing that mesmerised me as well. In a

different cultural climate he could have given Michael Jackson a run for his money. Check out his dance to 'Got A Lot a Lovin' to Do' in that relatively forgotten early film Loving You. Before they ruined him in. Well, ultimately Colonel Tom Parker, bad advice and sycophants or not, Elvis was just Elvis and was so all the way to his early end. He could plumb great emotional depth".

Saturday, 28 Sept - Sunday, 13 October 2013

'Change of Habit' Director William A. Graham Dies:  William A. Graham who directed Elvis Presley's final film and the pilots for The Big Valley and Police Story, died Sept 12 of complications from pneumonia. He was 87.
During his long career Graham also helmed the movies 'Honky' (1971) and 'Return to the Blue Lagoon' (91). He earned an Emmy nomination and also directed three episodes of The X-Files in the 1990s.
In the '60s, he directed a number of TV series including Naked City, The F.B.I, The Fugitive and Batman.
His also directed the telemovie 'Elvis and the Colonel: The Untold Story' (1993), with Rob Youngblood as Elvis Presley and Beau Bridges as Col. Tom Parker.
Earlier, Graham (right with Elvis) directed the real Elvis in Change of Habit (1969), which has the rock 'n' roll legend, in his last film, playing a doctor opposite Mary Tyler Moore as a nun.
In an interview about Elvis, William Graham noted that he talked Presley into changing his famous hairstyle for the film.
"He had a kind of a pompadour in front and his hair was full of grease. And because this was a movie about a doctor working in the ghetto, it just didn't seem to be quite the right hairstyle, so I talked to him and I said, 'Elvis, how would you feel about changing your hair a little bit?' Well, he said he would be open to the idea. In the end we washed all

the grease out of his hair and modified the styling and it was quite a landmark achievement. It was pretty unusual to get that done. And Elvis actually liked it very much.
Elvis was wonderful to work with and honestly was the nicest man I ever met in my life. Elvis called everyone 'Sir' or 'M'am' - from the gate guard at the studio all the way up to the head of the studio. Elvis was very responsive to direction. He didn't show any of the kind of ego, the kind of temperament that you would expect from a big star -- and he was a big star. Soemtimes Elvis would come out and sit around on the set and bring out his guitar and he would sing and play for us, lots of songs like 'Hound Dog' or 'Blue Suede Shoes' and this was wonderful for us. Elvis made being on the movie set a real thrill for the whole crew".

Elvis Presley's Rolex King Midas: Elvis was extremely handsome, charismatic and ultra-talented. Very few people knew Elvis wore a Rolex, but it was not just any Rolex. Elvis wore a limited edition Rolex King Midas (Model Reference Number 9630) which Rolex only made 1000 examples of. The King Midas at the time was the most expensive Rolex money could buy. As a matter of fact, in 1970 a Rolex Day-Date retailed for $1825 and a King Midas retailed for $2500. In 1975 a Day-Date retailed for $3300 and a King Midas retailed for $5500.
This very, very rare limited edition Rolex King Midas (far right) was given to Elvis as a token of appreciation for playing 6 days of sold-out concerts in 1970 at the Houston Astrodome Livestock Show & Rodeo.

'David Lynch Understood Elvis': Marty Lacker has written to us about our EIN article (below) on movie director and music fan, David Lynch's comments on Elvis.
Marty... I read with interest the comments by David Lynch and for the first time in as long as I can remember someone who didn't know Elvis understood one of the main and important aspects of Elvis' singing, in  particular when it comes to singing blues and R&B. Many times I have stated and tried to get people to understand, especially those young black artists and even Stevie Wonder, who accused Elvis of "stealing the black man's music." He did no such thing, Elvis sang those songs because he felt that music from the top of his head to his toes.  It was inside him and he sang what he felt which is why he did it so well.
It was Elvis who in the 50's broke down the barriers in white homes for Black music and Black artists and many of them who were struggling back then to get their music heard, have always thanked him for that.  It's the young black artists, most who were not even born when he started that make those accusations towards him because they're uninformed.
Was he influenced by the old Blues singers that came before him? Absolutely and he was the first to admit that and pay homage to them.  Elvis was very informed and knowledgeable about most of them because as he used to explain to us, that as a young boy growing up in East Tupelo as a poor young boy he used to lay in bed and listen to an old beat up radio he had he used to listen to the old Mississippi

Blues stations as well as the country stations.  He felt that music in his soul.

This is a subject that has really stuck in my craw every time I hear someone accuse him of stealing the music. I understand Stevie's constant crusade for Black folk but he should have paid attention when his idol Ray Charles answered the interviewer on a show he did with white country singer Travis Tritt.  The interviewer asked Ray what he thought about Travis a white man singing his, Ray's music, meaning the blues and R&B, Ray quickly answered, "That's fine, MUSIC HAS NO COLOR"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm gratified to hear David Lynch's informed comments.....
- Thanks, Marty Lacker

David Lynch and Elvis: Director David Lynch (Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet) is the reigning master of the uneasy dream, the enigmatic detail in movies, he has also released a CD 'Crazy Clown Time'. David Lynch is also a big Elvis fan.
He recently chose Elvis Presley in the Comeback Special as his Number One performance that reached the deepest level, specifically Elvis singing 'Baby,What You Want Me To Do'.
Lynch noted, "Elvis did the Comeback Special in '68. He was falling in the ratings and it brought him right back onto the throne and, when you watch it - and this song in particular, which is a cover of a Jimmy Reed song, Elvis makes it his own - you see how come he is the King of rock'n'roll. This music is him, he's got every inflection, every feeling 100 per cent out there for all to see, it's so thrilling to watch, it's infectious. With singers and musicians, there's the surface of something and then real deep levels of being it, and nobody gets close to Elvis because he gets that thing at the deepest level and it comes alive with him and everybody feels it and it's like magic, and this brought him back like gangbusters. He looks so great in his black leather, but even if he looked weird he'd still probably be king. Elvis is the total package, he was born for it."
In the past David Lynch has also talked about early Elvis.
Lynch: When I first heard rockabilly.. it was like being hit with a truck filled with happiness [laughs]. It was a thrilling truck, and you know, I
sort of wish everybody could experience that feeling. You've heard these stories. So many musicians when they saw Elvis for the first time, they just slammed their head with their first and just sad, "Damn! This is it!" And it was just suddenly so obvious. It wasn't there, and then it was there. And it had this unbelievable power, and it just screamed out, and everybody and his little brother lit up like a Christmas tree. It was unbelievably beautiful. I just, inside, felt this thrill, this love of the sound. It was like grabbing onto an electric wire.
With my film Blue Velvet, you know, that '50s music held a happiness for sure, but you know Elvis also sings "Heartbreak Hotel," and there's a kind of sweet sadness, and that dream thing that could go either way. The '50s dream, like the Fleetwoods "Come Softly to Me," was real popular. And all the great ones there, they caught this thing. In every decade the music paints the mood. So if you listen to what was popular in the '50s, from '56 on, maybe, and it's a summer night and you're listening to this or you're slowdancing in a basement with a girl, you can go back to that time.
"
EIN Note: David Lynch's critically acclaimed 1990 film, Wild At Heart (starring Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern) has a strong Elvis sub-theme, with Nic Cage
modelling his character (Sailor Ripley) on the King. In it Cage (quite capably) also sings 'Love Me' and 'Love Me Tender'. Lisa Marie later married Nic Cage in 2002, its a crazy Elvis world!

The previously announced 'Moody Blue' classic album is now delayed to November, to be released together with the third American Sound Studio "classic album" 2CD set of the remaining Memphis American Sound Studio sessions and outtakes (Kentucky Rain, Don't Cry Daddy etc)

'The On Stage Season' - this 2-CD release features the two sensational Opening and Closing shows from January 26, 1970 and February 23, 1970. It comes with a 16-page 4-colour booklet, featuring great photographs from the season and a insightful essay by Ann Moses Marino. These historic soundboard recordings were made by Elvis’ sound engineer Bill Porter at the request of Tom Diskin

and have been previously out on bootleg releases. FTD will surely remaster these concerts for the best audio.
Disc 1 recorded at the opening night show January 26, 1970 at the International Hotel, Las Vegas.
Disc 2 recorded at the closing night show on February 23, 1970 at the International Hotel, Las Vegas.

'Café Europa - G.I. Blues Vol. 2' - This 2-disc "Classic Album" 7” set follows on from the successful Volume 1 released back in 2012. The 16-page booklet features memorabilia, photographs and contains the long-awaited "In and Outtakes" information for both releases. Newly remastered and sounding better than any previous release, the original masters including studio banter have been newly remixed from the original studio tape.
While the majority of the tracks are from the second happier G.I. Blues

session at Radio Recorders, this release does also include most of the April 27-28 outtakes that were missed from G.I. Blues Volume.1. (see GI Blues Vol.1 review and track info here)

This 2-disc collector's edition features the original album tracks but with outtakes. "From Elvis in Memphis" is the product of the same 1969 American Sound Studio sessions under producer Chips Moman that yielded the recent "Back in Memphis" FTD.

Elvis in Hawaii 1957 Rare Footage: Despite it being removed from elsewhere on the internet Elvis World Japan has posted the newly found footage of Elvis Live at Honolulu Stadium, Hawaii Nov.10, 1957. In the 4 minute clip you see Elvis arriving by car, rocking on stage and even play the piano. The footage (8 mm) was shot by Elizabeth Moore, the wife of Ken Moore who worked security for Elvis at the time. The footage was recently featured at the Graceland special Hawaii exhibit but there's lots more in this YouTube clip. Elvis is wearing his Gold Lame jacket and at one point plays the piano. - The sound has been added from Elvis' 1961 Hawaii concert.
Parts of this footage, in superior quality, can be found on the DVD Aloha from Hawaii - 40th anniversary edition - which unfortunately has still not yet arrived at EIN. CLICK HERE to YouTube to view fabulous 1957 clip

'Love Me Tender' Blu-Ray Edition Review: Elvis' first movie now out on high-quality Blu-Ray in 1080 presentation. This release contains the same extras as featured on the 2006 50th Anniversary DVD release with the added commentary by Jerry Schilling plus short bonus documentaries. However since 2006 a large number of viewers have moved across to High-Definition viewing at home and enjoy the look of movies in their own Home-Cinema set-up.
'Love Me Tender' was always an oddity as the first movie vehicle for the King Of Rock'n'Roll - so is this BluRay upgrade really worth it?
Go HERE as EIN's Piers Beagley - with the help of Harley Payette - checks out this new Blu-ray release. Plus some cool Screen Grabs..
However at only $14 how can you go wrong? Let's hope this leads to Blu-ray releases of other Elvis movies.

UPDATED - 'Houston We Have A Problem' - CD review: From the Audionics label, a previously unreleased soundboard recording of Elvis' controversial matinee concert at the Summit in Houston on August 28, 1976.
The review by Bob Claypool has often been cited in Elvis literature, and the general consensus appears to be that this concert was a real disaster. Possibly detrimental to Elvis' glorious legacy, this 'import' CD is one of the most controversial releases of the year. Elvis was certainly on bad form on this afternoon, but was he really that terrible? SONY/FTD could never consider releasing this concert, yet it has to have a certain fascination to Elvis collectors.
36 years after his death, does Elvis' legacy still need to be air-brushed to keep its glory intact, or can we accept him for all his human faults?
Go here as EIN contributor Geoffrey McDonnell takes an in-depth look at Elvis' situation in summer 1976 and explains all.. and now UPDATED with Your Comments..

UPDATED - ‘Elvis At Stax’ [Deluxe] Reviews: More new sensational reviews of the new STAX release... the Herald-Review has posted yet another great review of the new STAX set.
... The dichotomy of Presley's career and life was the split between the R&B-loving revolutionary and the Southern gentleman who sang gospel, between the hip-swivelling rocker and the charming ballad singer.
There was no interest by anyone - not his people, not his record company - of building a career for Elvis Presley. So there was never a concern about helping him release and market a fantastic album. RCA would sell its Elvis singles, and they could probably predict within 1,000 how many copies each album would sell, such would be the consistency of Presley's audience.
So Presley was never really an album artist in his lifetime. It was the concert recordings - especially from the 1970s - that exploded on the charts. But of 28 songs recorded at Stax in 1973, six made the Billboard singles charts...
Exhibit one: "Promised Land."
This song alone gives a person enough evidence that Presley was the greatest Chuck Berry cover artist ever. If you've heard "Brown-Eyed Handsome Man" or
(especially) "Too much Money Business," you've heard Presley doing Berry great. But to hear "Promised Land" is to hear transcendence.
Exhibit two: "Raised on Rock." Written by Mark James, who also wrote "Suspicious Minds," Presley/RCA thought highly enough of the song to make it the title cut of a batch of the songs released on album.
Exhibit three: "If You Talk In Your Sleep."
This is the revelation of the Stax set. Presley's final released was drenched in horns and strings, and made the Billboard top 20. But another version included on the new set is "take 5" of the song. It's filthy in a brilliant way. The band is slinky as it works around its arrangement, and Presley smolders in a way that's almost embarrassing in its intensity and intimacy. It's fantastic, at once reminding the listener what Presley was, and what he could almost be seemingly at will later in his life. If only he'd wanted to more often.....

'Viva Las Vegas - 50th Anniv Tour' in Australia: Various news sites are incorrectly reporting that The Sweet Inspirations will perform in Australia for the first time in 2014 and as part of the "Elvis In Concert" Australian tour! Both Shawn Klush and Cody Slaughter have been voted as two of the World’s Best Elvis Tribute Artists as well as performing sold out concerts in Las Vegas, Chile and Europe with Cody currently also touring America

with the ‘Million Dollar quartet’ tour. - Their Australian tour will depict Elvis Presley at his prime backed by the Sweet Inspirations and a special tribute to ‘Viva Las Vegas’.
Tour dates so far confirmed are:
April 3 & 4 - Crown Casino, Melbourne
April 5 - State Theatre, Sydney
April 6- Jupiters Casino, Gold Coast

'The Nations Favourite Elvis Songs' UK New CD: To coincide with the ITV Programme (date not yet set) SONY UK will release single and double CD versions of the album entitled 'The Nations Favourite Elvis Songs' on 4th November, 2013 as follows. The single disc will retail at £10.94 and the double CD will retail at £11.74.
The Nation’s Favourite Elvis Song will be a 90 minute special to air later this year on ITV telling the stories behind the 20 greatest songs ever recorded by the King of Rock’n'Roll from Heartbreak Hotel to In The Ghetto, It’s Now or Never to An American Trilogy.
As well as hearing from Priscilla Presley and different generations of pop stars and musicians influenced by Elvis, the show will also feature those who worked with Elvis from the 50s through to the 70s – from songwriters to backing singers, producers to session musicians.
- As EIN contributor Brian Quinn notes, there are some fantastic tracks chosen though nothing out of the ordinary, and I am sure it will chart well. However Sony have yet again lost the opportunity of introducing the general public to some ‘relatively’ unheard of gems.
