Elvis: Echoes of the Past: Well, being the time of year that it is... EIN has found a few free hours to peruse some other Elvis sites. In particular we have enjoyed these two interesting topics on the excellent 'Elvis- Echoes Of the Past' website.
Worldwide Elvis Christmas Vinyl: Santa Claus is back in town! This fascinating article focuses on the different styles of artwork for the worldwide releases of the Elvis' Christmas recordings in the 50′s and 60′s. All releases with picture covers are mentioned, and there were some real beauties among them, many of which are extremely rare and very collectible nowadays.

Elvis in Billboard 1954: Also well-worth checking out is the great article on the feature on each and every mention of Elvis in Billboard magazine in the magical year of 1954, chronologically put together as a trip with a timemachine through '54, examining the rise of Presley on the charts:

2014 will be a Big Year for Elvis fans: On July 5, 1954, Elvis Presley made himself comfortable at a mic in Sun Studio in Memphis and successfully recorded his speeded-up version of Arthur Crudup’s song 'That’s All Right'. Guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black helped propel the song into pop immortality.
Memphis DJ Dewey Phillips played it for the first time on July 8, 1954 on WHBQ radio, and such was its popularity that the song was put on repeat fourteen times. Thus Rock ‘n’ Roll was blasted into the lives of teenage youths of the day.
60 years on, EPE and other Elvis connections are wasting no time in  2014. New Year’s Eve will be an important night at the Hard Rock Café On Memphis’s Beale Street. Thousands will gather to watch a 10-foot guitar wrapped in the 60 years of Rock ‘n’ Roll art  descend 100 feet at midnight.
On January 8, fans will assemble at Graceland as a giant cake is cut during the Elvis Presley Day Proclamation Ceremony. Events continue through until January 11. The Memphis Symphony Orchestra will perform symphonic interpretations of those early Elvis and Sun Studio hits.
Exploring the boy from Tupelo’s Gospel side, there is even an Elvis
Fans Holy Land Tour taking place between February 23  and March 4 next. Fans who sign up for the pilgrimage can "cruise the Sea of Galilee, float in the Dead Sea, roam the beaches of Tel Aviv, and experience baptism in the Jordan River".

The Power of Elvis in the Media!: It is amazing that Elvis' legacy is so important and such a powerful "media brand" that any connection with Elvis is inevitably used as the key hook-line. (Think of  Tom Jones, Petula Clark etc on-going "new album" publicity and the inevitable use of the Elvis friendship in their publicity, etc).
Well, well, well, isn't it amazing that the only news-worthy item about a 2 1/2 hour Christmas special on the BBC hosted by members of UK band The Clash, is a David Bowie 40 second phone-call where he vaguely attempts an Elvis impersonation!

We thought it pretty lame (see story below), here is what Marty Lacker had to say..     ..... If anyone actually thinks Bowie sounds like Elvis in his stupid Christmas message I have some of that proverbial Florida swamp land I'd like to sell them!!  It comes complete with a checkup by a noted Memphis ear doctor that will correct their obviously bad hearing. - Marty!

Friday 27 December 2013 ........................... only 363 days until Christmas ....

Nashville Guitarist Harold Bradley on Elvis: Some of Nashville's most classic songs, Elvis' ‘Devil in Disguise’, Roy Orbison's ‘Only the Lonely’, Tammy Wynette's ‘Stand by Your Man’ to name a few — have one thing, or person, in common: guitarist Harold Bradley. In his decades-long career, Bradley, now 86, has played on literally thousands of songs. Some say he's the most widely recorded guitarist in history.
Bradley is the brother of one of Nashville's legendary record producers, Owen Bradley. In the early '50s, the brothers opened one of the first recording studios in the city. They formed the A-Team: a dozen session musicians who, while you may never have heard their names, helped build Nashville. These musicians thrived in the background, ready to play behind any star who came in with a new album to create.
(Right - Harold Bradley (2nd left) in RCA Studio B, with LaRawn Scaife, Ray Walker, Mike Curb, and Gordon Stoker)
Harold Bradley worked with Elvis from 1962-67 playing on sessions that produced Elvis Number 1s 'She's Not You', ‘Devil in Disguise’ plus classics such as 'Long Lonely Highway', 'I'll Remember You', 'Guitar Man' and 'Big Boss Man'.
"When Elvis first walked in the studio, he had that magic about him. He had a positive air. He was easy to work with. Elvis never blamed the band if the song wouldn't come off. He'd just go to another song. The only bad thing about him was he liked to work at night and work all night long. Some of the guys couldn't stand that. The first session I did with him started at eight Sunday night and end eight Monday morning. He'd go eat breakfast and go to bed, and we'd go eat breakfast and go back and do more sessions and meet him the next night. It was exciting to work with Elvis. He was so nice during those times."
Bradley described the session-recording process with David Greene,
"We would work from 10 to 1, 2 to 5, 6 to 9 and 10 to 1 at night. To me, it was like going to a party. A Brenda Lee party in the morning, then a Ray Stevens party in the afternoon. A Bill Monroe party and then end up with Henry Mancini and Patsy Cline and Elvis and just other people. I realized, after a while, that it wasn't my talent: It was the talent of the stars. Then, I was just glad to be on board."
While Bradley was happy to be along for the ride, he remembers moments working with some of music's rising stars that were not so sweet.
"My first session with Elvis, I tune up and I'm standing around. I hear all this commotion out in the alley. Well, I had finally gotten to where I could afford a new car and I had a Nash station wagon parked right behind the studio. I went out and opened the door, and there was a sea of kids out there. They wanted to see Elvis, and they were standing on my station wagon. I just closed the door, shook my head and I thought, 'I don't know how much money I'm going to make with this guy, but it's not going to be enough to pay for my car.' "
Bradley also had to deal with his brother, who kept him and the other session musicians on a tight leash.
"As soon as you come into the studio and you walk in the door, you leave your ego outside," Bradley says. "Whatever you think you are, you're not. You're going to go in there and you're a piece of clay, and you're going to mold yourself into whatever is musically happening on that session."
While Bradley was observing history firsthand in these recording sessions, he says he didn't realize it at first. In fact, he wasn't even keeping records.
"Everything that was happening in the studio, that was my world. That was as big as it got. And then one day, my brother came up and he said, 'Well, we're doing pretty good. We've got 25 out of the top 50 songs.' All of a sudden I'm thinking, 'That stuff we did in the studio, people are listening to that all over the world? Maybe I better pay some attention to what's happening a little bit more because, goodnight! Whatever I'm playing, these people are listening to it. And I better be good.' "

David Bowie's BBC "Elvis" Christmas Message: It must be that time of the year (see story below) but David Bowie is also channelling Elvis this Christmas.
In fact Elvis and David Bowie share the same birthday January 8 and in the past Bowie has stated that he offered his 1975 song 'Golden Years' to Presley to record, but that it was declined. (EIN presumes by the music publishers such as Freddy Bienstock and not by Elvis himself). But now David Bowie has delivered a Christmas message via BBC Radio 6 in which he does an impression of Presley.
The 30 second clip was broadcast Boxing Day during the BBC 'This Is Radio Clash' show. EIN thinks it is a very average impression, but I guess he means well.
Bowie's message is as follows: "Hello everybody, this is David Bowie making a telephone call from the US of A. At this time of the year I can't help but remember my British-ness and all the jolly British folk, so here's to you and have yourselves a Merry little Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you very much."

Snoop Dogg channels Elvis in ‘Blue Xmas’ Video!: File under "This can’t be true"! Purely for fun and only going to show how far Elvis' influence continues 36 years after his own last Christmas - but now the mega-selling hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg is also channeling Elvis with his cover of ‘Blue Christmas.’
Filmed like a home movie (VHS-style), the rapper, strums a guitar.
"Spending Christmas alone," he says in a whisper, "Sad. Sad. Sad."
He continues a monologue during the bridge, "Silent Night. Lonely night. I wish you were here to hold me tight. I’m feeling blue on this Christmas, this Christmas night."
Produced Fred Wreck and baked by Dah Dah, Snoop sings along to a live version of Elvis Presley’s ‘Blue Christmas.’
Compared to the usual ETA's this is certainly not sanctioned by EPE! - Click here to YouTube for the clip.

Wednesday 25 December 2013 ..................... MERRY, MERRY CHRISTMAS BABY. . . . .

The staff at EIN wish all of our readers a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year!

If Everyday Was Like Christmas
(words & music by Red West)

I hear a choir
Singing sweetly somewhere
And a glow fills my heart
I'm in peace with the world
As the sound of their singing fills the air

Oh why can't every day be like Christmas
Why can't that feeling go on endlessly
For if everyday could be just like Christmas
What a wonderful world this would be

I hear a child
Telling Santa what to bring
And the smile upon his tiny face
Is worth more to me than anything

Oh why can't every day be like Christmas
Why can't that feeling go on endlessly
....

Merry Christmas everybody!

EPE Fan Club Christmas CD & Message: Each year EPE sends out a highly-collectable Elvis Fan-club Presidents thank-you CD. Here is this year's along with their Christmas message....

Dear Friends,
We hope that you, along with your family, friends and fellow fan club members have had a wonderful year and were able to experience some of the amazing events at Graceland since our last note.

As we look forward to 2014, the future looks brighter than ever for Graceland, a place that will forever be our family home. Right now this home that meant so much to Elvis is decorated for the holidays, just the way he liked it during what was his favorite time of year in keeping with family tradition, we'll keep the decorations up through his birthday on January 8 when fans from around the world will gather at Graceland to celebrate the life and legacy of a man who meant so much to all of us.
The new year will usher in and help kick off 60 Years of Rock'n'Roll, an Elvis celebration which will include a special exhibit at Graceland and a variety of events to help celebrate the music milestone of July 5, 1954, and the recording of "That's All Right" at Sun Studio in Memphis. This is one celebration that is not to be missed and we hope to see you in Memphis next year.
Wishing you the joy of family, the happiness of friends, and the love of the Christmas season.
Sincerely,
Lisa Marie Presley, Priscilla Presley

Tuesday 24 December 2013- Only ONE more sleep until..It's Christmas Time Pretty Baby..

'Elvis' Christmas Album' - Best Selling Christmas Album of All-Time: According to the latest data and certifications of the Recording Industry of America, Elvis' Christmas Album, recorded by Elvis Presley has shipped at least 13 million copies since its original release in 1957. That makes it the biggest-selling Christmas album of all time. The album has been re-issued and repackaged several times, and continues to be a perennial holiday best-seller, writes Eddie Deezen.
It sold three million copies upon its original release in 1957 and has sold an additional ten million copies in the various forms it has been reissued in. It hit the number one spot on the Billboard charts in 1957 and remained there for four weeks. Released on October 15, 1957, it would be the first of two Christmas albums released by "The King." The second, Elvis Sings the Wonderful World of Christmas, wasn't released until the early 1970s.
Christmas was always Elvis' favorite holiday. The annual display of blue lights decorating Elvis' home Graceland was, and still is, a legendary Mecca for tourists and locals to behold. Nothing gave Elvis greater joy than giving out Christmas gifts to family and friends. So the Christmas album idea seemed a natural for Elvis.
Interestingly, the biggest controversy regarding the album came from one of America's most beloved composers. On the album, Elvis did a cover version of Irving Berlin's classic "White Christmas." At the time, "White Christmas" was the biggest-selling record of all time.
After hearing Elvis sing his song, Irving Berlin called for the song, and the entire album, to be banned from radio airplay. He considered Elvis' "White Christmas" to be a "profane parody of his cherished Yuletide standard." He ordered his staff in New York to telephone radio stations across the U.S. and demand the song be removed from airplay. Many U.S. stations ignored Berlin's threats, but at least one American disc jockey was, indeed, fired for daring to play a song from the album. Canadian stations refused to play the album.
Ironically, Elvis actually had based his "White Christmas" version on the song as recorded by African-American Clyde McPhatter and his group The Drifters. McPhatter and The Drifters had released their own version of "White Christmas" a few years earlier, but it had caused no controversy whatsoever. This was mainly because the record was only played on black radio stations. The Drifters' "White Christmas" was not to be heard on mainstream radio stations for a couple of decades, although it had been a hit on the R&B singles chart in 1954 and '55.
We look back now, and listen, to this 1957 version of Elvis Presley. Who could ever imagine the life he would lead in the next twenty years? This slim, fresh-
looking, swivel-hipped maverick who delighted the kids and scared the pants off their parents was in the early stages of, quite possibly, the single most successful career in the history of music and all of show business.
Good old Elvis. I always loved the guy. Wherever he is, I hope he has a Merry Christmas this year. It would be great if these people who bring so much pleasure to so many people derived as much pleasure from life themselves....

The text is full of new information and the design is simply breathtaking. 528 pages total.  The book follows the format of the Frame By Frame books, but different to those books, this package includes a CD (nothing previously unreleased).

Latin American Fiesta Queen and Elvis photo rediscovered: Thanks to a small gift store that sells second-hand items in Hernando Beach, a Pennsylvania man was reunited with a family heirloom and the mystery of a beautiful woman in a photograph with Elvis Presley was finally solved.
Sandra Marie Pedraza, a Tampa woman who became the Latin American Fiesta Queen of 1956, is featured in the photo with Presley who was in Tampa that year for a concert at Fort Homer Hesterly Armony.
Teresa Quiñonez, who owns All Most Nu, purchased the photos solved the mystery.
"Sandra Marie Pedraza was a student at Jefferson High School, in Tampa, where she was crowned Homecoming queen and was later crowned Latin American Queen 1956." The woman then met Elvis and got this unique photo taken. The Latin American Pageant was founded in 1927 and was considered one of the most prestigious crowns in the Tampa Bay area.
Pedraza had lunch with Presley at The Colonnade Restaurant in Tampa when he was in town for a concert, according to the article, which says Pedraza died of heart problems in 1998.
Pedraza's son, Christopher David English, was happy to learn
that the photos still existed. "The photos that I have are reproductions," English said. "You found the originals in the store." He had given up looking for the lost photos of his mother.
Of meeting Presley, English's mother told him the King of Rock 'n' Roll was "very handsome" but she didn't fall for him because she was in love with her high school sweetheart. "They are very special family moments," English said. "These pictures are of great significance for my family. A kind of treasure."

Esquire's Chooses "Elvis at STAX" to give for Christmas: From The Clash to The Beatles to Elvis Presley Fleetwood Mac to jazz essentials, Esquire magazine has rated the ten Best Box Sets to give for Christmas in 2013. If you have music lovers on your shopping list, a box set is a great way to cross them off. While the top-rating Box-Set is noted as 'The Herbie Hancock complete Columbia Album Collection', Elvis' Deluxe STAX box-set gets a good recommendation
"Elvis Presley, Elvis at STAX"
Elvis wasn't all jumpsuits, giant shades, and sideburns in the '70s. In fact, he made some of the best, and most overlooked, music of his career.
"I've heard all the stories, and I'd be lying if I didn't say Elvis had a wild side," James Burton, the guitarist and musical director of Elvis Presley's 1970s-era TCB band told me recently. "But when we were in the studio he worked hard and he expected the band to work just as hard."
If Elvis at STAX is any indication, Burton isn't lying. The last major studio sessions of Presley's career, from July and December 1973, Elvis at STAX features Presley in fine form, his voice rich, full and

mature, and his band tight and precise from years in Vegas and on the road with The King.
After years of releases of varying quality from the Presley archives, Elvis at STAX comes on the heels of last year's fantastic Prince from Another Planet box, documenting Presley's 1973 Madison Square Garden concerts, and is another worthy addition to The King's recorded legacy.

Country Singer Ray Price dies at 87: In 1956 there were two songs that revolutionized music, Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Crazy Arms” by Ray Price, who died yesterday at his home in Northwest Texas – Mount Pleasant – after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 87.
Ray Price was the first artist to have a success with the song "Release Me" (1954), a top five popular music hit for Engelbert Humperdinck in 1967 and later an Elvis on-stage classic. During the 1960s Ray experimented increasingly with the so-called Nashville sound, singing slow ballads and utilizing lush arrangements of strings and backing singers. Other examples also sung by Elvis also include his renditions of "Danny Boy", "For the Good Times" and "Make The World Go Away".
Beyond his compellingly distinctive sound and wagonload of hit singles, "Ray Price created an era" is the way Williams' steel guitarist, Don Helms, famously characterized Price's contribution to country music.
That sound and era reached a pinnacle with Price's 1956 hit "Crazy Arms," a record so popular it topped the country charts for five months.
His first Grammy came for his 1970 recording of "For the Good Times," the Kris Kristofferson song that re-energized his career and jump-started a second wave of popularity for him.

16 year-old Elvis Impersonator- Why Bother?: Marty Lacker replied to EIN about our recent story of the Canadian Elvis sound-alike...

Marty... I read the story about the 16 year old Canadian kid who is imitating Elvis and all the hoopla in the media about this kid is ridiculous.  That's not his natural voice and he's nothing but one of the supposed thousands who attempt to imitate Elvis. If you really know your music and Elvis, if you close your eyes you can easily tell it's not Elvis.  Hell, I can make my voice almost sound like Billy Eckstine but it's laughable when I try.
This kid must have a good PR person behind him. They even have some dummies in the media call him another Elvis, intimating that he will be a superstar on the level of Elvis.  YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You want to hear Elvis, LISTEN TO HIS RECORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Priscilla Acts Against Horse Cruelty: Priscilla Presley has put her support behind federal legislation to protect horses from lives of constant pain. She joins The Humane Society of the United States in urging Congress to pass the Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act 2013. The bill is critical to ending the cruel practice of “soring” – the deliberate infliction of pain to gaited horses in order to produce an unnatural high-stepping gait for competitions.
Priscilla said: “Over the years, Elvis and I owned several Tennessee walking horses, and I know them to be gentle, graceful creatures. Today, 43 years after the passage of the federal Horse Protection Act that was intended to end the terrible practice of ‘soring,’ these horses continue to suffer at the hands of abusive trainers. I’m calling on Congress to pass the Prevent All Soring Tactics Act to finally end this torture.”
Presley adds her voice to a cast of noted horse-loving celebrities and horse industry professionals who previously expressed their support of the bill. Celebrities who have endorsed the PAST Act include: fitness expert Jillian Michaels; pop singer Ke$ha; singer-songwriters Emmylou Harris, Lynn Anderson and Mary Ann Kennedy; actors Wendie Malick, Viggo Mortensen, Kelly Carlson, Loretta Swit, Alexandra Paul, and Dawn Olivieri; television personality Jenna Morasca; and director/author Joe Camp.

ABG's New Expansion Plans for Graceland: ABG that now owns EPE are promising major upgrades to the property surrounding Graceland which will include expanding Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel and boosting the number of Elvis artifacts available for public viewing.
"People who come to Memphis for Elvis Week in August of 2014 will be very surprised at the material things that have been done," said ABG's Joel Weinshanker. "There needs to be a better reason to come to Graceland and stay longer and that means nicer places to stay and more interesting things to see."
Additional areas of the Graceland compound may be opened up for tours and an additional site showcasing the King's memorabilia is being considered on the premises.
Details about the expansion proposed for the 128-room hotel
were not yet available.
Weinshanker was in Memphis last week meeting with local architects to map out the Graceland plans. He said the Graceland-area upgrade plans have been in the pipeline for more than a year and funding is now being allocated to move the project forward.
Jack Soden, the longtime CEO of EP will continue in his leadership role at the company. He welcomed the energy being generated by new owners. He said more details about the new plans will be unveiled in the coming weeks and that branding efforts are being developed to broaden the Elvis industry around the globe and across social networking platforms.
Weinshanker will oversee the Memphis operation while the ABG Group handles the global licensing and merchandising of the Elvis image.

16-year-old "Elvis imitator" clip goes Viral: David Thibault although only 16 years-old sings just like Elvis and the video has been viewed more than 6 million times since it was first released last week.
David Thibault was recorded performing the Presley Christmas classic at Quebec radio station CKOI, a French language Top 40 station. But there’s no trace of any accent as the talented teen delivers a flawless vocal rendition that sounds hauntingly like the departed King of Rock and Roll.
So much so, in fact, that some online posters have called the veracity of the performance into question — a question that is put to rest when Thibault slips on the guitar, resulting in an audible mistake that couldn’t have been faked.
Click here to YouTube and listen to Thibault’s performance.
EIN notes - he is damn close to Elvis - worth checking out!

'Elvis Films FAQ' Book Review: Elvis' Hollywood years are full of mystery, and supposedly 'Elvis Films FAQ' covers them all! Elvis Films FAQ by author Paul Simpson explores his best and worst moments as an actor, analyses the bizarre autobiographical detail that runs through so many of his films, and reflects on what it must be like to be idolized by millions around the world yet have to make a living singing about dogs, chambers of commerce, and fatally naive shrimps.
After all if Elvis Presley had not wanted to be a movie star, he would never have single-handedly revolutionized popular culture.
Yet this aspect of his phenomenal career has been much maligned and misunderstood – partly because the King himself once referred to his 33 movies as a rut he had got stuck in just off Hollywood Boulevard.

It is a mightly entertaining book - but go here as EIN's Piers Beagley investigates to see whether this new book by author Paul Simpson really answers all the questions you need to know ....

New FTD book 'Loving You: Something For The Girls': FTD will be distributing Flaming Star's new book by Pål Granlund and David English on Elvis’ second movie 'Loving You: Something For The Girls'. Pål Granlund and his people have produced an unbelievably beautiful book filled to the brim with classic and previously unreleased photos from the making of 'Loving You'. The text is full of new information and the design is simply breathtaking. 528 pages total.  The book follows the format of the Frame By Frame books, but different to those books, this package includes a CD (nothing previously unreleased).
ETM&HM Gordon Minto writes.. "This book breaks new ground in a genuinely innovative and exciting way, fleshing out the Elvis story in unprecedented detail.
Co-authors, Pal Granlund and David English, are especially pleased to able to show – for the first time ever – the recently-found day-by-day production schedule which has been presented here in considerable detail for your interest and enjoyment. It makes for fascinating reading, especially when you match it up against the photographic evidence. And needless to say, what is very clear is that throughout that period Elvis worked very hard either on the film set, or in one of the two recording studios where he cut the soundtrack along with other material, with little opportunity for down-time.
But the mother-lode was struck in the spring of 2013 when, on another trip to the USA, David was able to unearth a further 100 previously unseen images which confirmed that the book was a viable proposition. And as you will see from its contents the book offers not only fascinating details about the production of the film but some simply stunning photographs – most of which tell their own story.
We owe the guys who have produced such fine work a huge vote of thanks for their efforts. Gordon Minto.
Expected to be released end of January 2014. Size is 24,5 x 31,5 cm.

Elvis record player sells for US$7.200 at auction: A record player that once belonged to Elvis Presley has sold for double its estimated price at the UK auction in Cornwall.
The singer gave the record player as a wedding gift to Ellen Marschhauser in Germany in 1959, where he was stationed during his Army service. She and husband Jim Jenkins retired to Cornwall, where she died in 2010.
The Perpetuum Ebner Musical 5v Luxus was expected to fetch £2,000, but sold for £4,400 US$7.200 to an overseas bidder at Penzance Auction House.
Proprietor David Lay said he had never come across anything that had created so much interest.
Mr Jenkins said the record player had also been a "thank you" from Elvis to his wife for doing some translation work for the singer's father, Vernon.
He said he and his wife had used the record player at parties, but it
had been put away in the loft when the needle broke.
As well as playing records on it, it is believed that Elvis also used the player as an amplifier for his guitar.

'Ginger Alden Autobiography': As first reported by EIN last month, Ginger Alden's new book narrating her romance with Elvis will hits shelves in August 2014.
Ginger Alden, Elvis Presley's fiancee at the time of his death in 1977, has revealed the cover for her upcoming memoir, Elvis & Ginger: Elvis Presley's Fiancee and Last Love Finally Tells Her Story.
Alden's title not only will narrate her relationship with the King in Graceland -- from when they first met to when he passed away -- but also will "set the record straight" about their bond, and rescue the musician from the rumors and tabloid attention in which she found herself surrounded just before and after his death.
She also will share details about his exploration of Eastern religions, his perception of fame and his intimate moments with loved ones.
To cover the book that aims to humanize the legend and her love for him, the model and actress chose a photo of the couple in a wintry white setting, with Alden wearing a fur coat and Presley wearing a black jacket and purple scarf, holding his signature sunglasses.
To be released Aug. 5 by Berkley Books, an imprint of Penguin Group.

'Elvis the Penguin' New Book: At the top of the self-published book charts and perfect for a kid's Christmas stocking, is Kara Casanova's 'Elvis the Penguin'.
Author Kara Casanova recognized she had a unique, marketable storybook soon after completing the manuscript in 2006. After countless rejections from traditional publishers, she decided to self-publish Elvis the Penguin in early 2013.
"I had every belief this book, and this little character, had a place in the market, if only I could get it out there. So it was easy to make the decision to self-publish Elvis the Penguin," said Casanova.
Elvis the Penguin's adventures begin the moment he pops out of his shell in the Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. His unusual pompadour warrants his being named Elvis, and soon he's waddling in the footsteps of his famous namesake, wanting to sing and perform on stage just like the King of Rock n Roll. His many attempts to reach his dream land Elvis and his friends into one, hot, hilarious mess after another. Fast-paced and full of happy penguins, panicked flamingoes, and a bevy of beautiful Las Vegas showgirls, it's a reminder that dreams, and dreamers, come in all shapes and sizes.
.
Author Kara Casanova's first book of fiction and first children's book, with illustrations by Anne Lipscomb, is perfect as a read-to or early-reader book for children, but it is also a fun read for anyone interested in penguins, Elvis or a humorous good time.

Elvis To Be Cloned by 2040!: Something crazy to think about this Monday - A Canadian dentist Dr Michael Zuk has recently announced that DNA extracted from teeth could be used to make a clone
He owns a tooth that belonged to Elvis Presley - as well as John Lennon - and hopes to clone him. He believes that cloned versions of Lennon and Presley will be born by 2040.
EIN notes that perhaps the 2055 Christmas single can be a genuine Elvis / John Lennon duet instead of this year's UK fake one!!
Ever since his death in 1977, the idea that Elvis Presley might still be with us has become a favourite with conspiracy theorists.
But it seems that the Elvis superfans might get the last laugh as the Canadian dentist believes he can clone the King using DNA sequenced from a tooth.
Speaking on-line Dr Zuk revealed the same process used to clone Dolly the Sheep in 1996 could also be used to bring Lennon and Presley back to life.
'Legally, it is not a problem,' he added. 'If something is illegal in one country its a matter of crossing a border.
'There are people in history that everyone is fixated over…Elvis, JFK, Martin Luther King, Marilyn…it will be possible…and because of this, like the nuclear bomb, it will be happen.'
"What goes on in his brain would be largely be down to Elvis' environment. His personality and cultural tastes were formed from his upbringing and even during his lifetime his musical style changed.'
However the musical ability in his DNA is undoubted so we would aim to create an environment for the child where this ability would be nurtured and allowed to develop.'
Despite being sanguine about the ethical minefield that would need to be navigated before bringing the pair of singing superstars back to life, Dr Zuk does admit to qualms about how the cloned Presley and Lennon would cope with the media attention that would inevitably ensue.

'Elvis At 21' Canberra Exhibit Big Success: The new Australian exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra only opened last night but it is already a big success with visitors. Some keen fans have already been through three separate times to absorb the full impact of so many beautiful photos of Elvis from 1956.
Several of the photos hint at Presley's sizzling sexuality and his skill for holding women in his thrall. A photo of a young and ambitious Elvis tongue-kissing a girl backstage is among dozens of intimate portraits of the singer on display. The photos were taken just as Presley was on the cusp of stardom - just days before managers and security closed around him and prohibited close access.
Perhaps the most interesting photos come from a series of shots taken as he caught the train back home to Memphis after his recording session in New York. While he was already famous in Memphis he was largely unknown on the East Coast.
There are shots of him buying food at train stops where he is just another passenger amid the crowd. He managed to travel unrecognised, for probably the last time in his life.
'Elvis at 21' is on show at the National Portrait Gallery until March 2014. Tickets $15.

We started by going back to the basic recordings of the American sound studio; the edited repaired master tracks without the dubbing done later in Nashville.
The combination package "Elvis In Person & Back in Memphis" was the basic concept, but we wanted more. During the first days of the comeback in Las Vegas in 1969, special RCA presentation box sets were given away. These box sets are very rare and expensive to get hold of. This was the perfect 1969 package idea for this release.
INCLUDED ARE:
- A 28 page full color /b&w photo folio with 28 photos of Elvis in the style of 1969 including rare or unpublished photos.
- A 32 page full color booklet with original articles,
- An interview with Elvis from 1969, co-workers and musicians about recording at the American Sound Studios and performing in Las Vegas.
- Over 60+ photos of Elvis on stage (many from the same show), various are rare or unpublished
- 15 incredible photos of The American Sound Studio with Elvis, again some are rare or unpublished!!
- Previously unreleased versions.
- A rare studio rehearsal of January 1969.
- The unaltered raw audio of the August 24, 1969 M/S soundboard.
- The reproduction slipcase of the famous 1969 presentation box set.
- All recordings in excellent sound quality.
We hope you’ll agree we did our best to respect and honour the original artistic ideas from 1969.

Although the reporters from the local papers "Houston Chronicle" (Dale Adamson) and "The Houston Post" (Bob Claypool) were not too happy with the way Elvis presented himself (you will see their original newspaper articles pictured in the 16-page booklet that comes with the cd) the excited crowd at the Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston still loved Elvis as they did since the 1950's. "Audionics" helped us to make a significant improvement in the sound of the two soundboard recordings. If you have missed the show´s first releases from more than 10 years ago or if you want to own them in better sound than before plus exactly the way they were recorded you should not miss this great new double cd!

Tuesday 3 December 2013 - - - 45 Years Ago Today - - -
Elvis 'Comeback Special' 45 Years ago Today: At 9pm on December 3rd, 1968 NBC TV aired "SINGER presents ELVIS." The programme gave NBC its highest ratings victory of the year and the general public, along with every fan, knew that ELVIS was BACK!  1968 would end with the most sensational ‘comeback’ of all time.
While the LA Times showed just how out of touch it was by stating, "I don’t think many viewers care to see singers sweat on TV" – it was these very beads of sweat that demonstrated just how much Elvis cared for his music. The TV special revealed the passion & intensity of Elvis as he broke free from the movie soundtracks, stood up against the Colonel’s idea of a "family TV special" and reclaimed his crown. Nothing would ever be the same.
"It was the finest music of his life. If ever there was music that bleeds, this was it." -Greil Marcus

Expanded '68 Special Exhibit in Honor of 45th Anniversary: In celebration of the 45th anniversary, Elvis Presley's Graceland is excited to open the newly expanded "'68 Special" Exhibit! The new exhibit features original artifacts from this legendary televised event that took place on December 3, 1968, on NBC. The expanded exhibit features an interactive video experience, never-displayed-before pages of the script with Elvis' handwritten notes and his outfit from the club production scene, including the jacket worn during his visit with President Richard Nixon in 1970.
The show, originally named 'Elvis' but now commonly referred to as the "'68 Comeback Special," the show was directed and produced by Steve Binder. The 68 Special opened with Elvis singing a hot new version of the gutsy "Trouble," from his 1958 film King Creole. This segued into 'Guitar Man', which became the underlying theme of the show. Elvis was then reunited with two of his original '50s band members, guitarist Scotty Moore and drummer D.J. Fontana for an

informal jam session - considered the first of its kind. The show ended with the iconic performance of 'If I Can Dream'. The song, written by the show's musical director W. Earl Brown, was in response to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy. 'If I Can Dream' describes a world full of hope and free of doubt, pain, and fear.
After hearing "If I Can Dream" for the first time, Elvis said, "I'm never going to sing another song I don't believe in. I'm never going to make another picture I don't believe in." Elvis had just wrapped up his movie contract in Hollywood and was eager to return to the stage. By this time, it had been more than seven years since Elvis had appeared in front of a live audience. The special was watched by 42 percent of the viewing audience, making it the number one show for the season and giving NBC its biggest ratings victory of the year. The special received rave reviews from the critics and Elvis was indeed back on top.

New Elvis owners discussing Graceland upgrades: An executive with ABG that recently purchased Elvis Presley’s intellectual property says it is discussing ways to expand the late rock and roll icon’s brand and upgrades to the Graceland tourist attraction.
Fans’ hunger for more of the King has been fed in recent years by releases of music compilations such as the "Elvis at Stax" CD box set and by new exhibits at Graceland. Woodhouse envisions moving the brand into other realms beyond music, including the luxury items market.
As an example, Woodhouse cites the appearance of Presley’s likeness on Dolce & Gabbana T-shirts. Authentic Brands’ higher-end brands include Judith Leiber handbags, Bobby Jones golf clothing and equipment and men’s clothier Hickey Freeman.
Woodhouse believes there is also room for brand growth among younger fans. He notes that more than 9.5 million people like Presley’s Facebook page, "Clearly, he resonates on social media and he resonates on other more modern platforms as well."
Authentic Brands and Weinshanker, along with input from Presley’s former wife, Priscilla Presley, and their daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, also are discussing ways to upgrade Graceland, the tourist attraction focused around Presley’s longtime Memphis home, Woodhouse said.
Woodhouse did not discuss details of the upgrades, but says the new operators are considering some "great ideas."

Elvis at 21 at Australian National Portrait Gallery: Opening this Saturday 7 December, the new Australian exhibition chronicles Elvis Presley’s dazzling emergence in 1956 and includes photos of Elvis on the road, in concert, recording and at home captured by freelance photojournalist Alfred Wertheimer during the year Presley catapulted from anonymity to superstardom.
Photojournalist Alfred Wertheimer was hired by RCA Victor in 1956 to shoot promotional images of a recently signed 21-year-old recording artist, Elvis Presley.
Gallery registrar Maria Ramsden says even the most diehard Elvis enthusiasts will be moved by some of the images in the show. "It is a really intimate show - it's not just Elvis as you know him, Elvis the performer. That's why I think people who maybe think they're not interested in Elvis, they should come along.
It's such a pivotal point in Elvis' career, I don't think it had clicked with the Col Parker. It was probably this process that made him cotton on, when he saw some of these candid shots, it occurred to him, God, I
need to control Elvis' image because that's where the money's coming from. And so throughout the rest of his career, the Colonel controlled everything, which is quite sad."
Wertheimer's instincts resulted in images that provide us today with a candid look at Elvis before he exploded onto the scene and became one of the most exciting performers of his time.
30 minute highlight tours will run daily at 2.30pm, and a free screening of the film Love me Tender [PG], from 1956 will occur at 11.00am and 3.00pm daily.
Tickets $15. - 7 December 2013 – 10 March 2014

UPDATED - New Elvis GOLD & PLATINUM RIAA Certifications: Great news for Elvis fans Insider (and FECC poster) Victor Manuelabreu has posted that there will be a press release coming soon from Jack Soden President of the EPE working in conjunction with the RIAA pertaining to new certifications for Elvis Presley. After years of research, It is believed that new independent audited figures have been located and will be established for Elvis Presley's United States album sales in correlation to new certifications.
This is this list of albums awaiting certification by the RIAA.
1. An afternoon In the Garden - will be certified Gold.
2. White Christmas - will be certified Gold.
3. Elvis Country - will be upgraded to platinum
4. Elvis By The Presleys - will be certified gold
5. The Essential Elvis Presley - will be upgraded to platinum
6 Christmas Duets - will be certified gold.
7. Pot Luck - will be certified gold
8. Love Letters - will be certified gold
9. Good Times - will be certified Gold
10. Promised Land - will be certified gold.
11. Elvis Today - will be certified gold.
Many of the soundtrack albums will also be tabulated with new certifications coupled with new upgrades in certifications for other Presley albums.
These Soundtrack albums (as mentioned yesterday) should also receive posthumous RIAA certifications in 2014. Many of these are soundtracks that charted in the top ten when released, as noted below.
1. Fun In Acapulco - will be certified Gold. Charted #3 on US charts :
2. It Happened At The World's Fair - will be certified Gold. Charted #4 on US charts:
3. Kissin Cousins - will be certified Gold. Charted #6 on US charts:
4. Harum Scarum - will be certified Gold. Charted #8 on US charts:
5. Paradise Hawaiian Style - will be certified Gold. Charted #15 on US Charts

7. Double Trouble - will be certified Gold. Charted #47 on US charts:
8. Clambake - will be certified Gold. Charted #40 on US charts:
9. Speedway - will be certified Gold. Charted #82 on US charts:
It seems that the Presley estate was tallying the amount of records to be certified by the RIAA all at one time. Presley is already the most certified artist in the history of popular music with a combined total of 257 certifications for albums and singles. He is way ahead of the second place Beatles who have a combined total of 148 certifications. I cannot believe that Elvis is still under certified by the Recording Industry Association of America.

UPDATED - 'Elvis The Man And His Music #102': EIN's favourite Elvis music magazine 'Elvis The Man And His Music No. 102' will be out soon.
In the December Issue:
- Interview With Ron Pietrafeso - The Denver Connection Part 1:
First in-depth interview (it'll run for three parts) with the former Denver narcotics police officer in which he talks about his friendship with Elvis. Includes stories of taking The King out on patrol (!!!), hunting down jewellery for him and so much more!
- Interview With Ron Steele:
This is the first time Ron Steele has been interviewed. He was the engineer of Elvis' January 12th 1964 Nashville session ('It Hurts Me', 'Ask Me' and 'Memphis Tennessee') and although Chet Atkins has always been listed as the producer for this date (and Marty Lacker once claimed Atkins fell asleep at the session), Ron reveals he wasn't even there!
- Two's Company? - The fake Elvis 'duets' fiasco.
– Reviews - CD, DVD and book reviews.
- Stolen! - We name and shame Peter Verbruggen of Elvis Matters who used our Stump Monroe interview without permission and then, when confronted about it, tried to lie his way out of it despite the proof being in his magazine for all the world to see!

New Elvis Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Exhibit: Elvis Presley fans young and old flocked to a new exhibit at Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum last Friday to see Elvis' stylish ID bracelet, custom-made motorcycle, eye-catching rings and military mementos. The special exhibit 'A New Side Of Elvis' opened in conjunction with Elvis Presley Enterprises.
The items include a walnut-size 41-carat ruby and diamond ring, a 25.5-carat opal ring and a sapphire pinkie ring.
Visitors lined up to watch a video montage and check out Presley's 1975 custom made SuperTrike motorcycle and the white suit that he wore when he performed the song "If I Can Dream" in a television special.
More than 40 artifacts are on loan from Graceland including the rehearsal schedule from his famed 1971 Lake Tahoe performances, and a wallet-sized Army induction portrait from Fort Chaffee, Ark., where he reported in 1958.
Presley's status as a rock and roll icon is singular. Writer Lester Bangs may have said it best when he quipped: “I can guarantee you one thing - we will never again agree on anything as we agreed on Elvis.”

'Closing Strong!' New Import CD/Vinyl: Out soon on the VV label is their fourth release entitled "Closing Strong!" featuring both the complete live soundboard recording from February 23th 1970 Las Vegas Closing show and the complete live audience recording from Houston on March 1, 1970 Afternoon Show .
The publicity states that.. the producers are aware of the fact that the closing night show, as one of the best Elvis Presley concerts ever, has been previously released in different imports. But here we give you the chance to listen to the show in its entirety FOR THE FIRST TIME in a double high valued collector vinyl set (EIN notes that this GREAT show has just been released by the FTD label see 'The On Stage Season' FTD In-Depth Review) . The second show, the Houston incredible March 1st afternoon show, presents Elvis at the pick of his possibility, although not new to CD collectors, will not have been heard in this quality before. This release is taken directly from a first generation tape and has been professionally remastered to a high standard producing an excellent audio quality, The sound quality is far superior to the previous released audience recordings.

This is an Audience Recording so be sure to ask your local dealer for samples! Elvis at Houston is pure dynamite, delivering a great performance that compares with the Closing night in terms of quality, giving to this release the status of “UNIQUE”.
Here you can hear the complete opening night. Houston was three days later only from the end of the Vegas season, for Elvis the very first opportunity to face a real audience from his comeback to live scenes. The result six supernatural shows with record attendance set in the Saturday evening show…. the rest his history, Here you can hear the complete March 01 afternoon show. Elvis performed accompanied from the band only a solid and rough show singing the best of the previous Las Vegas Season, in spite the short show ( about 44 minutes) and the bad acoustic with this show as Houston Chronicle review suggest "Elvis Brings Down The House At The Dome" can be reasonably to be included in one of best shows ever!!!
EIN notes - Buyers Beware! Note that Elvis closed his Houston stint with the evening show, March 1, 1970 which is not the concert featured here.

ABG - 'More Elvis in the Right Places': Great news for serious Elvis fans fed up with his image being plastered over rubber-duckies and silly trinkets.
With its acquisition of EPE, ABG  is planning to bring a little bit of focus to the selling of Presley’s image. Authentic Brands won’t be eliminating any of the planned rollouts of new merchandise that was announced before the sale. These are the planned releases for the pending 60th anniversary of the release of Elvis’ first single, “That’s All Right” including Fathead life-sized cutouts, a line of Zippo lighters and a tequila set for 2014.
However ABG president Nick Woodhouse said the company’s approach may be to pare down some products and that one of the company’s goals is to associate Elvis with higher-end products and retailers. That could mean the end of Elvis' image being splattered all over trinkets, a strategy that may have diluted the brand over the years.
“We’ll look at high-level participation and collaboration instead of licensing,” Woodhouse said. “Fans can look for more Elvis in the right places.”
ABG will manage Graceland along with Joel Weinshanker, founder and chairman of the National Entertainment Collectibles Association. There will be an effort to make the destination more contemporary overall without diminishing the “heritage of what it means."
Weinshanker, an Elvis fan, called Graceland “Elvis’ castle,” and Woodhouse echoes his thoughts when it comes to respecting what’s already there. But he does say the destination can be leveraged more, which in turn would bring more visitors to Memphis.
“Memphis is synonymous with Graceland,” Woodhouse said. “A higher-profile Elvis means a higher-profile Graceland and a higher-profile Memphis.”

UK Elvis Album STILL HOLDS UK Top Five!: As EIN predicted below, Elvis held his UK Number 5 spot last week and now continues his great chart run still at Number 5 in the UK LP charts.
Top 30 UK Album Chart for W/E 30th November, 2013:
1. Swings Both Ways - Robbie Williams
2. The Marshall Mathers Lp 2 - Eminem
3. Shangri La - Jake Bugg
4. Loved Me Back To Life - Celine Dion
5. The Nation's Favourite Elvis Songs - Elvis Presley
Lady Gaga, last weeks #1, is already down to #9.
It is worth noting that Cliff Richard is at #13 while very surprisingly The Beatles are down at #26 with an album many thought would get to number one and beat our Elvis.
This is an excellent result for Elvis. The public has really taken to this one despite there being not one single new track on it.

'Echoes Of Aloha' New Import CD: Audionics will release their 5th CD of this year early December. It is a kind of sequel to "ALOHA JERRY” CD (Audionics 2013-01-2) - once again dedicated to the eighth Las Vegas season - February 13th, 1973 dinner show.
These recordings were captured almost a month to the day of the ”Aloha From Hawaii” satellite broadcast, and it’s inevitable to make some comparisons. It’s been said that Elvis was depressed about having to return to Las Vegas again following the huge success of the broadcast, but this newly discovered recording does not bear that out at all.
Elvis sounds more relaxed and more at ease on this recording, and there is an intimacy present on this recording that is missing from ”Aloha”. It’s interesting to note that many of the songs that he performed during the satellite show are missing here. In fact, the layout of the show is somewhat reminiscent of the structure of the Las Vegas shows in August 1970, with a strong mix of recent material and Elvis classics.
All recordings presented on this CD are previously unreleased. The
February 13th, 1973 dinner show is completely new even to die-hard Elvis fans. It was never in circulation and it is taken from an original ”booth recording, ” made from a booth close to the stage and PA speakers. It is remarkably superior to usual audience tapes and soundwise fully comparable with our "Aloha, Jerry” (Audionics 2013-01-2), February 23, 1973 Closing Night.
As a bonus, more of soundboard tracks from the Dinner Show of February 10th, 1973 are included.
This release is presented in deluxe digipack with live and candid photos taken during January / February ’73 Vegas season and with appropriate liner notes.
Go HERE for more details and tracklist.

More News and EIN exclusives from earlier in November ....
November 1976 Jerry Lee Lewis arrested outside Graceland: November 23, 1976 at precisely 2.50am Jerry Lee Lewis pulled up to Graceland in a new Lincoln Continental. Lewis was armed, angry, and obviously inebriated -- a dangerous combination for a man mere mortals call "The Killer."
"He was outta his mind, man," recalled Graceland gatekeeper Harold Loyd. "Jerry Lee was screamin', hollerin', and cussin'. `Get on the goddamn phone. I know you got an intercom system. Call up there and tell Elvis I wanna visit with him. Who the hell does he think he is? Tell him the Killer's here to see him."
Police Officer Kirkpatrick had to pull him outta the car. Jerry Lee had tried to hide his pistol by puttin' it in between his knee and the door. But when Kirkpatrick opened the door, the damn gun fell out onto the floorboard and it was cocked and loaded.

UK Elvis/Susan Boyle Duet 'X' Factor Debut: Looks like Susan Boyle will be performing 'O Come All Ye Faithfull' during the UK 'X Factor' TV show on the day of its release - Sunday, 8th December. Hopefully this will help get the "new" Elvis duet up to to No.1 for Christmas.
The singer has launched a competition to find a gifted group to help her sing her version of Christmas carol 'Oh Come All Ye Faithful' for a performance which will be aired globally through YouTube.com and social media websites.
Like it or not, the new 'O Come All You Faithful' duet has the chance of becoming Elvis' 22nd UK No.1.

You can see the new official duet video HERE on YouTube.
But EIN says maybe it is better if you don't.
At least it IS for charity with royalties going to Save The Children fund.

'The On Stage Season' FTD Review: After their excellent "On Stage" multi-track Classic album, FTD now continues their look at this excellent season with the first official release of Elvis' 1970 Opening and Closing night performances.

Elvis Presley Enterprises Bought by Authentic Brands Group: The King of Rock 'n' Roll has now joined Marilyn Monroe and Muhammad Ali to comprise a powerful group ABG owned Iconic Brands.
Authentic Brands Group (ABG) announced today the acquisition of EPE Inc assets from the CORE Media Group. Following the acquisition, ABG will own and manage, in partnership with the Presley family and Joel Weinshanker, Chairman and Founder of National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA), the intellectual property associated with one of the most widely recognized and beloved entertainers in the world.
"We are honored to welcome Elvis into the ABG brand portfolio and look forward to working alongside the Presley family and the team at EPE to increase Elvis' popularity and fan base worldwide," said Jamie Salter, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ABG.
"This is an exciting day for Elvis and his fans," said Priscilla Presley. "We look forward to working with the ABG team to further promote the legacy of Elvis. This is the opportunity the family has been envisioning to expand the Graceland experience and enhance Elvis' image all over the world."
Lisa Marie Presley noted, "While I will continue to own Graceland and Elvis' original artifacts, we are looking forward to working with

our new partners to continue the growth and expansion we have been working towards. The licensing and merchandising aspect of this business is not to be confused with the fact that the property will always remain with me and my family. However, this is a great partnership for our family and Elvis fans worldwide."
EIN notes that the previous plans to refurbish and modernize the Graceland as a bigger tourist attraction had been put on hold, but they could be renewed now that the sale is complete.
In connection with the acquisition, ABG will assume the global rights to a vast library of photographic imagery, including artwork, album covers and movie posters; video and audio assets, including television appearances and music specials; Elvis' name and likeness; and other assets, including the rights to major Elvis
themed events such as Elvis Week, an international celebration of Elvis' life and legacy.
In connection with the transaction, Joel Weinshanker will acquire the rights to the management of Graceland operations, Elvis' home in Memphis, Tennessee, with ABG and the Presley family as partners. Graceland recently captured the #1 spot on USA Today and 10Best's "Best Iconic American Attractions".
"It is with great honor, and a profound sense of responsibility that we assume ownership of the Graceland operations," said Weinshanker. "We will usher in a new era of an enhanced Graceland experience, run for the fans, by a fan. Graceland is Elvis Presleys' castle, and I look forward to helping take this global landmark to new and exciting heights. We look forward to continuing to give visitors to Graceland, whether
online or in–person, whether their first visit or their 500th, a world class experience."
ABG brands already include Marilyn Monroe, Juicy Couture, Judith Leiber, Adrienne Vittadini, Taryn Rose, Hickey Freeman, TapouT and Sportcraft. They now add Muhammad Ali and Elvis.
Based in New York ABG's mission is to further enhance brand equity through partnering with best-in-class licensees and retailers.

Perhaps one lesser thought is that this tour does not include any of Elvis' original TCB Band or musical associates which to EIN seems a sad end of an era.
.. In celebration of Elvis’ recording of “That’s All Right” in 1954 and the 60th Anniversary of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Graceland

and Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. will proudly present "Elvis Presley - On Stage" in 2014.

UPDATED-_ 'The Nation's Favourite Elvis Song' Review: EIN contributor Brian Quinn kindly supplied us with his review of last night's UK Elvis special.
... As an Elvis fan I thought the TV programme was excellent and better than expected. It seemed to fly by especially with the invasive interruption of advertisements. The sound was excellent and most important there were no impersonators involved. It was rapid moving and to the point. Put over in a documentary style it featured all the main points one would want featuring including his UK record of No.1 Hits and his one billion worldwide record sales making him the best-selling solo artist of all-time.
Of course one can always argue about the one billion figure as they could about the figure of 20 million  given for the worldwide sales of ‘Its Now Or Never’. The countdown went from 20 to 1 with the ultimate winner being ‘Always On My Mind’ just narrowly beating out ‘Suspicious Minds’. I do feel that Priscilla may have had the final casting vote for this track, however. The twenty tracks featured in countdown order were:
20 King Creole
19 If I Can Dream
18 Don’t Be Cruel
17 Viva Las Vegas
16 Heartbreak Hotel
15 American Trilogy
14 It’s Now Or Never
13 All Shook Up
12 Blue Suede Shoes
11 The Wonder Of You
10 Are You Lonesome Tonight? (including laughing version)
9 Return To Sender
8 Love Me tender
7 Hound Dog
6 Jailhouse Rock
5 A Little Less Conversation (film and remix versions)
4 In The Ghetto
3 Can’t help Falling In Love
(film and ‘live’ versions
2 Suspicious Minds
(Live Version featured)

Elvis And The Beatles in UK Chart Battle: The Beatles and Elvis Presley - two of the most successful pop music acts of all time - could fight it out for the number one spot next week in the UK album charts.
The Beatles On Air: Live At The BBC Volume 2, which has 63 tracks and is released on Monday, contains 37 previously unreleased live performances. The new Elvis best-of album, The Nation's Favourite Elvis Songs, was released this week.
History suggests both records will jostle for position in the charts - greatest hits album Elvis The King claimed the top spot in 2007, as did Volume One of the Beatles' BBC Sessions released in 1994.
The trouble is that the Elvis album contains the usual "hit songs" that fans have bought before, whereas The Beatles album contains 23 unreleased recordings.
Securing the number one spot next weekend could be tricky for both acts though, with tough competition from current artists more likely to benefit from digital downloads.
UK journalist Kevin Hughes said, "I think this Elvis Presley album probably will get to number one simply because there's a big
advertising spend, there's a big push from Sony Music for this album, there's an ITV special, fans have been voting for their favourite songs for the TV show and the estate have compiled some of the greatest songs ever recorded - these are some of the greatest songs of all time.
"But with The Beatles, yes it's a bit niche but you have to remember that the last record in 1994 - volume one of these BBC sessions - won a Grammy and was one of the biggest selling releases of that year."
Lady Gaga's fourth studio album Artpop is released on Monday while Eminem's album which went on sale this week - The Marshal Mathers LP 2 - looks like becoming one of the fastest-selling albums of the year.
Elvis currently holds the record for the most Top Ten albums on the UK chart and for the most number one singles in the UK, with 21 hits.
The Beatles are the best-selling band of all time and have had the most number one albums in the UK, with 15.

Raquel Welch on Elvis: Raquel Welch publicising her 2010 book 'Beyond the Cleavage' recently spoke to Wall Street Journal about her Elvis memories....
Raquel Welch ... I first saw Elvis Presley in concert in 1956, when I was 15 years old. He played the San Diego Arena in the spring, and my family lived in nearby La Jolla. "Heartbreak Hotel" was already a radio hit, and I couldn't get enough of it. Hearing that song was a real turning point for me as a teenager. When I saw him in action, he was mesmerizing. I screamed myself silly.
Something about his voice on that song made me think, "This must be what sex is all about." My girlfriends and I didn't have a lot of experience in that department, but you just knew Elvis had it all.
At the concert, Elvis was dressed in a pair of loose trousers, loafers, a shirt and open jacket. When he moved, he was smoldering. His hair fell over his eyes, his tone was sensual and he put a lot of body into it. His delivery on "Heartbreak
Hotel" was loaded with insinuation. The song was also in a minor key, which always triggered a sexy reaction in me.
When he slipped in those low-register Elvis-isms - you know, the huh-huh thing - it came from his body, not from his head. He had that emotional, erotic intensity that was impossible to resist.
I never imagined when I got to Hollywood in 1964 that my first job would be in an Elvis movie. In Roustabout, I was a day player with one line. I met Elvis briefly on the set, but his hair was sprayed, he was wearing stiff pants and a wimpy windbreaker. I was so disappointed. He wasn't the same guy I saw in concert.
After the shoot, one of his buddies came over and said, "Elvis is having a party at his house. He thought you might like to come by and have some fun." I wondered, "Why couldn't he ask me himself?" I didn't go.
Whenever I hear "Heartbreak Hotel" now, it takes me back. It reminds me of what a force Elvis was. He still is today. Sometimes I get misty-eyed over the whole thing.

Ginger Alden Autobiography Now on Pre-Order: Elvis Presley’s fiancée and last love, Ginger Alden, will finally publish her much anticipated autobiography "Elvis and Ginger" in 2014. You can now pre-order the book.
She notes, “Elvis, you and I know the truth and unfortunately you’re not here to set the record straight. With this book, I will try to...”
For over three decades Ginger has held the truth of their relationship close to her heart. Now she shares her unique story, and while a lot has been written about the King, the Elvis we meet in this long-anticipated memoir is a revelation.
In her own words Ginger details their whirlwind romance—from first kiss to his stunning proposal of marriage. And for the very first time she talks about the devastating end of it all, and the 80,000 mourners and reporters who descended on Graceland in 1977, exposing Ginger to the reality of living in the spotlight of a short, yet immortal, life.
Above it all, Alden rescues Elvis from the hearsay, rumours, and tabloid speculations of his final year by shedding a frank yet personal light on a very public legend. From a unique and intimate perspective, she reveals the man- complicated, romantic, fallible, and human - behind the enduring myth, a superstar worshipped by millions, and loved by Ginger Alden.
From Berkley publishers, due out August 5, 2014.

Elvis Presley #2 Forbes Top-Earning Dead Celebrity: With two touring Cirque du Soleil shows it is no surprise that Michael Jackson once again topped the Forbes list of Top-Earning Dead Celebrities, earning $160 million over the past year.
Jackson reclaims the No.1 spot from his friend Elizabeth Taylor who last year earned $210 million due to lucrative auctions of her jewellery and clothes.
Back up at Number Two is Elvis with an estimated $55 million in posthumous earnings. This is a similar amount flowing in to EPE's coffers as in the last two years - even with the closure of his Cirque Du Soleil show in Vegas.
The King of Rock n’ Roll may have taken a back seat to the King of Pop the past few years but Elvis' estate is still earning steadily thanks to his eternally popular image, the internationally touring video-concerts and the stream of revenue from Graceland and the ever-expanding EPE licensed products.
Top five Forbes magazine Top-Earning Dead Celebrities.
1. Michael Jackson $160 million
2. Elvis Presley $55 million
3. Charles Schulz ('Peanuts' creator) $37 million.
4. Elizabeth Taylor $25 million.
5. Bob Marley $18 million.
Interestingly Madonna is the top earning living Celebrity taking $125 million last year, less than the late Michael Jackson!
As Gore Vidal once noted, "Death is a good career move"!
Elvis left the building 36 years ago - will Michael Jackson still be in the list in 30 years time? - EIN truly has its doubts.

Lisa Marie Confirms new Elvis Presley Movie: In a recent discussion with the media, Lisa Marie Presley confirmed that talks for a big screen film about the life of her father Elvis have begun and she is all for a credible new biopic.
Without her naming the production it is likely to be 'Last Train to Memphis' which is in pre-production for Fox 2000 with rumoured ('Marley'/'Last King of Scotland') director Kevin MacDonald. Based on the 1995 Peter Guralnick biography, the film chronicles Presley’s early years and his transformation from a high school kid to an overnight sensation credited with ushering in a radical new era in music.
Mick Jagger and Victoria Pearman will produce through their Jagged Films banner along with Steven Bing, who will produce through his Shangri-La shingle. John Fusco is adapting the script.
Jagger has been championing musical biopics lately, clearly a natural fit for the seasoned rocker and he’s also producing a James Brown biopic starring Chadwick Boseman.
