Glen Campbell To Retire: Legendary country star Glen Campbell and friend of Elvis, is finally hanging up his guitar - he plans to retire after releasing a swansong album this year. The veteran Grammy-winning singer/songwriter, 75, has been working in the music industry since the early 1950s and has enjoyed a varied career.
Working with Elvis as far back as the Viva Las Vegas sessions, Campbell was a member of Phil Spector's infamous band of studio musicians before going on to enjoy a successful solo career.
The Rhinestone Cowboy hitmaker has recorded more than 50 albums - but his upcoming release, Ghost On A Canvas, is likely to be his last. Campbell tells Mojo magazine, "Most people are retired at 60. And I'm slowing down. I've slowed down, I'll put it that way."
Campbell has said he thinks often of Elvis.
"He's with me all the time," Campbell said. "I'll see stuff and it'll remind me of him. He was really, really a nice guy. I knew Elvis when he came in through Albuquerque, and that's where I was at the time playing in my uncle's band.
That's the first time I met him and he opened for Farron Young, and guess how many times he opened for Farron Young? Once. The crowd was saying, 'We want Elvis! We want Elvis!' I think Elvis had more charisma than anybody I've ever played with, ever met or ever seen. He just had it."
"When I started the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour in 1969, I'd make it a point to go to Elvis, when Elvis was there, and he'd make a point to (come to me).'Cause we really enjoyed talking to one another and singing. He was born and raised the same way, out in the sticks."

Two of Elvis' Personal Books on Ebay Re-listed: Further REDUCTION, the last chance to buy two ELVIS owned books from his personal collection now at an even lower price! Keen Elvis fans know that Elvis liked to read books especially spiritual and religious book plus books pertaining to the entertainment industry. One day in the early 70's Marty Lacker was in Los Angeles on music business and it was the same time Elvis was in L.A. after one of his Vegas engagements.  A number of times Elvis' looks were compared to that of Rudolph Valentino's. They were both very handsome men.  Elvis was fascinated for awhile by that and he asked Marty to get him a book recently published about Valentino.  So the next day Marty went to Pickwick Book Store on Hollywood Blvd and bought him the book. Elvis read it that night and for a couple of years he had it in his bookcase at Graceland.
In the mid 70's however we Elvis was cleaning out his bookcase he gave Marty Lacker the two books as a gift, one was The Valentino book and the other was entitled "The Wit & Wisdom Of Hollywood" by Max Wilk. That book has many
wonderful inside stories about Hollywood and the movie business and those that ran and participated in it. Marty kept both books a number of years and now because of personal reasons he has decided to sell them.
Marty Lacker has now listed these books individually as these valuable books being sold together put them out of reach of most fans.
Here's a better chance to own Elvis' very own books - touched by Elvis' loving hands.

Thursday 28 April 2011 - - with NINE new Elvis stories!
Budapest Names Small Park After Elvis Presley: Budapest's city council has approved a plan to name a small park after Elvis Presley in commemoration of The King's support for Hungary's anti-Soviet revolution of 1956.
Budapest mayor Istvan Tarlos said Wednesday that a plot near the Margaret Bridge will be called Elvis Presley Park to honour the singer's "sincere sympathy" toward the short-lived uprising.
On Jan. 6, 1957, during his last appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show," Elvis sang a gospel standard, "Peace in the Valley," which Sullivan said reflected the singer's concern for Hungarians' plight after the uprising. Sullivan said Elvis wanted people to make donations to be sent to Hungary.
The site in Buda, separated from Pest by the Danube River, was chosen in voting held last month on the city website.

Bill Baize Received "Elvis Presley Memorial Award": Elvis Presley's former back-up singer and member of the famous "Stamps Quartet" Bill Baize is the winner of the German "Elvis Presley Memorial Award 2010", created by the fan service "The King's World".
Bill Baize was chosen especially because of his close gospel connection to Elvis, who loved gospel music more than any other kind of music. The tenor had made outstanding contributions to Elvis' presentations of this beloved gospel music, and Elvis admired Baize's vocal abilities so much that he even let him sing solo numbers at his concerts from time to time. Until today Bill Baize supports efforts of fans all over the world to keep the memory of Elvis alive.
Bill Baize received the award last week from Sandra and Peter Beines of "The King's World" in Randers, Denmark after the grand opening of "Graceland Randers".
The "Elvis Presley Memorial Award" is the very first German award created to celebrate outstanding contributions of musicians, singers, songwriters and producers to the unique art of Elvis Presley. Its first winner had been Elvis' piano player and arranger Glen D. Hardin.

'You'll Never Walk Alone' New CD: In a couple of days, Straight Arrow will release a new CD called 'You'll Never Walk Alone' (SA 2011-20-02). It will feature Elvis' famous July 19th, 1975 8:30 pm show from Uniondale, NY.
17 years ago, Claudia label released this show in slightly incomplete form, using an unknown generation tape copy of the original recording. Straight Arrow managed to obtain the original (mono) tape directly from person who recorded it. No edits - and in the best possible sound! The title-song in particular sounds stunning: a truly goosebump-inducing performance in the best soundquality possible!
As most of die-hard fans know, Elvis' July 1975 tour was one of his best. No need to go into big details. His evening Uniondale concert was of the highest quality - a rockin' setlist, rare songs, great mood and brilliant vocal work.
As you've come to expect from Straight Arrow, this original recording was completely restored in a studio and the sound was enhanced for the best possible listening pleasure.
The CD package is completed with a standard 16-page booklet, including a

collection of photos from the Uniondale 8:30 pm show and a critically written but positive review by Nick Cohn.
"You'll Never Walk Alone" will be released in early May, 2011. Don't miss your chance to obtain the ultimate release of one of the coolest Elvis shows ever. And as the front cover show, on stage, Elvis was never walking alone!

Cowboy Jack Clement Performs With Million Dollar Quartet stageshow: Sun Records' engineer and songwriter Jack Clement joined the cast of Broadway’s Million Dollar Quartet on stage on April 21 to perform his original song, "It’ll Be Me," made famous by Jerry Lee Lewis. Cowboy Jack Clement is a legendary songwriter and record producer. On the date of the 1956 Million Dollar Quartet sessions at Sun Records, Jack was the engineer. Without Cowboy Jack, Presley, Cash, Lewis & Perkin's impromptu recording session would never have been documented on tape. Cowboy Jack worked with such legends as Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Ray Charles, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, Jim Reeves, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tom Jones and Hank Snow. After attending the MDQ performance he dubbed "the best show I've ever seen in his life," Clement walked on stage to join cast members Eddie Clendening as Elvis Presley, Lance Guest as Johnny Cash, Jared Mason as Jerry Lee Lewis and Erik Hayden as Carl Perkins.

"Elvis - Full Of Rhythm And Blues'' New Import CD: Brookville Records are proud to announce "Elvis - Full Of Rhythm And Blues'', a superb collection of one of Elvis' finest rhythm and blues recordings. All areas are selected: the early 50s, the swingin' 60s and the glittering 70s.
Elvis was influenced by the blues as a music genre. Big Mama Thornton, Arthur ‘Big Boy’ Crudup, The Prisonaires, Lowell Fulson, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Little Richard, Fats Domino and many others were all admired by Elvis who recorded many of their songs while traces of their music, delivery and style are evident in many of his other recordings.
In Memphis Elvis listened to Dewey Phillip’s ‘Red, White and Blue’ show on WHBQ. Phillips (like his Sun Studios counterpart with the same name) offered a show which pushed at the boundaries and allowed teenagers (both black and white) to ‘get down and dirty’. For white youth this was the avenue they needed to escape the mainstream conservatism of the music revered by their parents.
One of the finest white blues singers the world has ever known, Joe Cocker, went on record as saying that Elvis was the greatest white blues singer in the world.
Elvis’s blues legacy has never been fully examined and is generally little appreciated.
It's strange that, despite 2 albums that were officaily released in the 1980s ( 'Reconsider Baby' and 'Blues') there are not many Elvis Blues albums in the collection of the devoted Elvis fan.
''Full Of Rhythm And Blues'' is a fantastic 25 track album. Elvis didn't merely cover blues songs, he made them is own.
- 25 Tracks, Many Rare Recordings, 4 "Unreleased" Tracks (EIN notes, ie new edits)

Female Elvis Impersonators Talk Shop; When Elvis Presley released his first album 55 years ago, men wanted to be like him and women wanted to be with him. But that concept has evolved. Now women want to be like Elvis, too.
In a sea of thousands of Elvis impersonators, three tribute artists stand out: Jacqueline Feilich of Australia, Laura Baxter Herbert of Massachusetts and Helen Anne Gately of Seattle.
These women -- all die-hard Elvis fans -- also moonlight as female Elvis tribute artists, or "ETAs," sporting bejeweled jumpsuits in homage to their all-time favorite singer.
Jacqueline Feilich, a lady Elvis tribute artist from Australia, is known as "She Is The King." She's been moonlighting as a female Elvis for the past 12 years, performing modern-day versions of the rock 'n' roll icon's classic songs.
Despite the male-dominated ETA industry, these lady Elvises each told AOL News that, over the years, they've learned to hold their own as female versions of the "King."
But that doesn't mean their paths haven't been challenging.
Feilich, a singer/songwriter who goes by the trademarked title "She Is The King," has been performing as a female Elvis for the past 12 years and full time as a corporate act for hire since 2006.
Even with all the experience under her bedazzled belt, she said some audiences still second-guess her abilities as an ETA when she first hits the stage simply because she's a woman.
Feilich, however, is quick to remind the crowd that she's not trying to impersonate the King, but rather honor his legacy through her own modern-day interpretations of his music.
Feilich goes the natural route as well, keeping her black locks long and straight.
As for Laura Herbert, she's open to copying Elvis' coif -- color, sideburns and all.
She said the first time she ever dressed up as a lady Elvis was in 2002 for Halloween. Herbert went all out -- dying her short hair black and gluing some serious sideburns to her face. And, if it meant looking more like Elvis, she'd do it again.
Although being a female ETA certainly has its challenges, Feilich, Herbert and Gately aren't giving up their gigs anytime soon.
They said they'll continue performing as lady Elvises because, ultimately, they think the King would've wanted it that way.
"I really believe Elvis would've gotten a kick out of what I do. Many fans have said that he would've been proud of me," Feilich said.
"I would hope that Elvis would be flattered and find what I do to be sort of cute," Herbert added.
After all, Elvis was a ladies' man.

'Matinee Majesty' Import CD OUT NOW: Straight Arrow's new CD called 'Matinee Majesty' (SA 2011-19-02) as recorded at the Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island, Saturday, June 26th, 1976, 2:30PM is out now.
Unlike many other concert recordings from 1976, this one is quite enjoyable. It was Elvis' 2nd show of the tour and he was still full of energy and in fine voice. Most of songs are performed well, including the oldies. The highlights, however, are ballads like "And I Love You So", "Love Letters", a double dose of "Hurt" and a majestic performance of the 2nd national anthem, "America The Beautiful".
The fidelity and clarity of this STEREO audience recording is excellent. We believe that you will be pleasantly surprised with such a topnotch recording of a very upbeat performance from what is generally known as a troubled year for our man. As you've come to expect from Straight Arrow, the producers managed to get the best possible source - an original tape was obtained from a person who WAS THERE. This recording was completely restored and the
sound was enhanced for the best possible listening pleasure.
The CD package is completed with a 16-page booklet, including a collection of photos from the Providence matinee show and a very positive press review of the show.

Danish Graceland grand opening: Despite a legal issue between owner/business man Henrik Knudsen and the EPE estate, the doors of the Danish Graceland copy opened this weekend. After the countless Elvis impersonators, this is the first Graceland imitation, although as you can see on this publicity picture handed out as a press photograph, only the facade of the house looks like the real thing. It is crazy that EPE should be so upset. Elvis's guitar player James Burton, who was announced as THE special guest for the opening, was not present. EIN has been informed that both James Burton and Larry Geller failed to show up at the last moment at opening, because EPE instructed them not to! Owner and co-financer Henrik Knudsen expects up to 125.000 visitors per year. The real Graceland has 600.000.

'Losing Graceland' Book Review - plus Micah Nathan Interview: Released earlier this year, 'Losing Graceland' by Micah Nathan is a fictional novel with Elvis as its main protagonist. The press release described it as "An irreverent tale about a recent college grad, a mysterious old man who may be Elvis, and a perilous road trip that could lead to the old man's final comeback."
As a true Elvis fans I always seem to be reading one kind of Elvis biography after the next and so it is a pleasant change to read a fictional Elvis novel that had be engaged and amused all the way through.
The story starts in Buffalo, New York when college graduate Ben Fish replies to a newspaper ad that states "Driver Needed Seven Days. Excellent Pay No Druggies, Drunks, or Felons."
He meets the 'Old Man' who just happens to have a lot of spare cash, an old Cadillac and wants to get to Memphis to find his missing granddaughter.
With this book the delight for Elvis fans is the fact that you can clearly imagine this "Old Man/Elvis" who denies that he truly is Elvis, but also says he was ‘the King’. He also seems to know way too much about Elvis Presley's past not to be Elvis. . . .
EIN’s Piers Beagley reviews this novel and interviews author Micah Nathan.

'Spanish Eyes: By Request' OUT NOW: Gravelroad Music's new release 'SPANISH EYES: BY REQUEST', Elvis live at the Sahara Tahoe in May 1974 is out now. This absolutely excellent tape, from the Tahoe Friday, May 24, 1974 MS, was the very first available soundboard recording from Lake Tahoe, released in 1995 by Fort Baxter. At this show Elvis was heard taking a personal request for "Spanish Eyes," not something he did too often...
Early comments about the new release are positive.
" The design is certainly an improvement over the cardboard sleeve of the original. A nice booklet, containing mainly shots of Elvis in the rainbow suit completes the nice cover. I belong to the lucky bastards that received an invitation for opening night on almost A4 format, okay it is almost 30 years too late, but still... also a greeting card - used for confirmation - was added. Both cards carry great shots from Aloha and I am told the originals are very rare!
The soundquality has certainly improved. There is more "space" and that makes the show more lively and most important: the speed is corrected."

EIN will post its full review asap.

The booklet is filled with Tahoe '74 facts, photos and detailed liner notes, there is also a reproduction of the rare May 1974 Sahara Tahoe reservation postcard with the color photo of Elvis on back, and another menu-sized, "Your Personal Invitation" card with the invite on the flip-side. Both of these collectables are very hard to find, and suitable for framing. Go to EIN’s 2011 Elvis CD releases for full tracklist & details

'An Afternoon In The Garden' back in Billboard Charts yet Again! During the past couple of months the 'An Afternoon In The Garden' album has re-entered and left the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart. It is back again this week re-entering at #123 with a star denoting greatest airplay and sales gain. It has also re-entered the Catalog Album Charts at No.12 with a star.
It is interesting, apart from being a great album, as to why this particular one should be getting so much chart success now, even performing better than the recent 'Elvis Is Back' Legacy release.
We are informed that the album is on sale for $5, along with others, at such stores as Walmart.

Danish Graceland Stocked With Elvis' Items: It looks as though the monarchy in Denmark needed a king.
It must be why this Friday Elvis Unlimited plan to open their own version of Elvis Presley's Graceland.
Denmark Graceland has been duplicated brick by brick and is stocked with 6,000 of Presley's personal effects.
Henrik Knudsen, the owner of the museum, who is a true Presley fan, expects to attract 75,000 to 125,000 visitors a year.
The project has cost around 5 million US dollars from various investors.
Doors will open Friday with a special opening event April 15.
The press release promises Suzy Quatro, James Burton,  Glen D. Hardin, Bill Baize - The Stamps and Stephen Ackles will be present, among others.
- EPE was earlier threatening legal copyright action and now EIN notes that the Elvis Unlimited website is down at the moment.
Surely not more Elvis legal skulduggery?

'Hound Dog' Most Played Elvis Song In Space!: 60 years ago April 12th, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first man to orbit the Earth. Twenty years later to the day the space shuttle era began with the maiden voyage of Columbia. Thomas Melin of the Elvis Today blog joins the celebration by looking at the most played Elvis songs in space.
The use of music to awaken astronauts on space missions is a NASA tradition that stretches all the way back to the Gemini program in the mid 1960's. Picked by flight controllers or by crewmembers' friends and family members, the playlist is ranging from rock, country, classical, bluegrass and jazz, to children's' choruses and songs from the countries of international crewmembers.
The first time Elvis' music was used to wake up astronauts was on January 31, 1974, aboard the Skylab space station, when "Burning Love" was played. It would then take 17 years before an Elvis song would blast through the speakers aboard a spacecraft again, this time aboard the space shuttle Discovery. On the other hand, this was a mission where Elvis music was put to extensive use, just look at this:
STS-48 September 12-18, 1991
9/13/91 ―"Hound Dog" by Elvis Presley
9/14/91 ―"Release Me" by Elvis Presley. In anticipation of deployment of Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite
9/16/91 ―"Are You Lonesome Tonight?" by Elvis Presley. Chosen for its line ―Are you sorry we drifted apart? referring to Discovery‘s separation from its payload (UARS)
9/17/91 ―"Return to Sender" by Elvis Presley. In honor of expected landing.
Two years later "Release Me" was used again on a Discovery mission (September 1993), together with "Heartbreak Hotel," although actually it wasn't Elvis who was singing this time, but well known Elvis impersonator Carl Walz on his maiden spaceflight. He had the unusual distinction of hearing his own voice singing for his first wakeup in space.
The real Elvis made an appearance one year later, when "Hound Dog" was used to wake up the astronauts on another Discovery mission, on September 15, 1994. And would you believe the same song was used the same month the next year, on September 8, 1995, aboard the shuttle Endeavour.
On the morning of December 3, 1996, "Return To Sender" was the choice to get the astronauts up on their feet, on a mission flown by space shuttle Columbia. Then, on the first shuttle mission to the International Space Station (ISS), "Hound Dog" was used for the third time, on December 12, 1998.
Ten years later, on Mars 19, 2008, the wheel had come full circle, when "Burning Love" was again played in space, on the shuttle Atlantis for Mission Specialist Mike Foreman. No Elvis song has been used since then to wake up astronauts.

To sum up, "Hound Dog" has been played three times, "Burning Love" and "Return To Sender" two times each, followed by "Release Me" and "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" which were used one time each. Five Elvis' songs all together.

Now what song would you choose? If I was an American astronaut, I bet it would be an emotional moment looking out through a window down at the North American continent, listening to "An American Trilogy."

Sir Cliff Richard Visits Graceland: English pop star and Elvis fan Cliff Richard stopped by Graceland this weekend while in Memphis recording a new album. Richard, who has sold over 260 million records worldwide, dominated the British popular music scene in the pre-Beatles period of the late 1950s and early 1960s. With his fifties style copied from Elvis, Cliff's 1958 hit single "Move It" is often described as Britain's first authentic rock 'n' roll song. He continues to record and perform around the world and is the only artist, other than Elvis, to make the UK singles charts in all of its first six decades (1950s–2000s).
This was a return visit for Richard who came to Graceland in the '60s as a guest of Elvis' father, Vernon Presley. Richard was very excited to be back at the home of the King of Rock 'n' Roll and said, "Elvis is the reason I became a rock singer. If he hadn't been around, I don't think there would've been a Cliff Richard either."
One very lucky group of Graceland guests, who happened to be from the
UK, had a very special moment when, just before they entered the mansion for their tour, Cliff Richard exited. Their mouths dropped open and one guest said, "CLIFF RICHARD...What are YOU doing here?" Richard responded with a smile, "You never know who you are going to see at Graceland!"

Two of Elvis' Personal Books on Ebay: Books now listed individually.

Greg Page may sell his massive $4 million Elvis Collection: Former Wiggles performer Greg Page sang and danced his way to riches — but has lost substantial sums of money in the global financial crisis.
Page, who wore the yellow skivvy in the popular children's entertainment group, has not disclosed how money much he has lost.
But it is believed he may be forced to sell his $7 million home and his collection of Elvis memorabilia — reportedly the fourth largest in the world and estimated to be worth $4 million.
Page left the Wiggles in 2006 due to a blood-circulation illness that left him suffering from fatigue and dizzy spells, rendering him unfit to continue with the group's demanding live show schedule. The Wiggles for several years were one of Australia's richest entertainers, with earnings of $33.5 million from live performances, merchandising and television endorsements.
It is thought when Page left the group he received a severance payment of up to $50 million, on top of his earnings from more than 15 years with the Wiggles. Page then started his own property
development business about 18 months later, buying and selling multi-millionaire homes in the Hills district, in Sydney's north-west.
Page is expected to reveal more details about his financial woes in a tell-all autobiography to be published next month.

Special Elvis Exhibition in NSW, Australia: ‘Elvis: His Treasures, His Story’ celebrates the story of the greatest entertainer ever to grace the earth, Elvis Presley, and brings to life aspects of his career and off-stage life through the display of artefacts that were owned by or connected to him. The display from Greg Page's private collection is at Stockland Baulkham Hills from now until April 29 2011.
The exhibition features Australia’s only chance to see Elvis’ 1956 Lincoln Continental MKII before it heads home to Graceland later this year. A significant vehicle in Elvis’ life and career, he purchased this car whilst on tour in Miami in February, 1956. Elvis drove this car from Graceland to Fort Hood, Texas when he was drafted into the Army for his National Service in 1958. He also drove his bride-to-be, Priscilla, to Graceland for the first time in this car when she came to live in Memphis in 1962.
The story of Elvis Presley is much more than the records that he has sold and the concert attendance figures that he has achieved. The story of Elvis is about a human being with an altruistic spirit. Elvis gave so much money to friends, family,
charities and even to strangers on the street. Each year, Elvis would give $1000 to each of 50 local Memphis charities. He was not only the most successful entertainer in the world, but perhaps also the most generous.
Today, Elvis is still assisting those in need – the exhibition is on display to aid The Salvation Army’s Disaster Relief Fund. There have been so many natural disasters in our region of the world in the past 6 months – the Queensland floods, the Victorian floods, the Christchurch earthquakes, the Japanese earthquake and tsunami – all of which have left devastation, despair and costly damage. The Salvation Army will be taking donations from people who visit the exhibition, so that in the spirit of Elvis, we can all help others less fortunate.
Greg Page (former Yellow Wiggle) is a keen Elvis collector and avid Elvis fan. Greg Page says that “The fact that the display of the artifacts is endorsed by EPE is a huge bonus for people coming to see the exhibition – it’s almost like the doors to the vaults at Graceland have been opened JUST for the people of Australia to enjoy these artefacts.”
Items on display include:
Original Aloha Cape made for Elvis to wear at his Aloha from Hawaii Concert
Elvis and Priscilla’s marriage certificate
Gold nugget ring with 10cts of diamonds given to a fan by Elvis at one of his concerts in 1975
Stage worn leather outfit seen on CD covers
Elvis' Shirts from “Jailhouse Rock” and “Loving You”
Cuttings of Elvis’ hair from his first haircut as a GI
Police Badges collected by Elvis
Earliest known signature of Elvis on a library card

Elvis On The Milton Berle Show Tops List of 100 most Influential Shows: In a new article, Adweek ("The best of advertising, marketing, pop culture") explores the 100 most influential TV shows and how they changed pop culture. At the top of the list is "The Milton Berle Show" followed by "The Ed Sullivan Show."
Elvis appeared on "The Milton Berle Show" twice and on "The Ed Sullivan Show" three times. During Elvis' second appearance on "The Milton Berle Show" on June 5, 1956, his sensuous performance of "Hound Dog" disgusted the press and some adult viewers. Kids in the audience, however, loved it and the controversial performance only seemed to fuel Elvis' unstoppable popularity.

The stink bug initially caught his eye due to its "stunning colour and intricate camouflage". He said: "I was simply in awe at the beauty of the camouflage - I know many insects use it to avoid being preyed upon but I'd never seen anything like it before.
I was just captivated by the bright colours. Then on closer inspection it just hit me there is actually a face on its back."

It was ELVIS, be it in Stink Bug form!

Newly Discovered Elvis photos valued at $10,000! It was the most exciting day in a young girl's life - a meeting with Elvis Presley, a kiss on the cheek and the gift of a rose. These pictures, unearthed after 50 years, show the day a teenager met her rock 'n' roll idol while he was serving with the U.S. Army in Germany.
The girl's mother and father took her to Bad Nauheim in 1959 when Elvis was living there, close to his base. By a stroke of luck, they found him relaxing off-duty.
The parents took the photographs in which their 16-year-old daughter is seen with Elvis, who in one snapshot has his arm around her as she wears his Army cap while he wears his combat helmet.
Elvis, then aged 23, also signed some publicity photos that she already had of him. The photographs were shown this weekend on BBC's Antiques Roadshow after a German-born Londoner brought them to one of the programmes at the British Museum.
The woman in possession of the pictures, who wished to remain anonymous, was a 14-year-old schoolgirl living in Mainz when her friend revealed that she had met the world's most famous heart-throb.
She said: 'My friend told me excitedly,'I've seen Elvis and I've touched him and he kissed me.'
'To prove it, she gave me copies of the photographs that her folk had taken of them.

"When word got out, there was a meteoric rise in her popularity. She had obviously been able to spend some time with Elvis and, being a very pretty girl, seems to have impressed him.
'She got kissed by him and she wouldn't wash her cheek for a whole week. He gave her a rose, which we pressed and she shared the petals with me. I kept the dried petals in foil under my bed. I still have them.
'Although we lost touch long ago, I kept the photographs safely in a drawer.'
Roadshow memorabilia expert Hilary Kay said: 'I've never seen Elvis Presley look more gorgeous. It is a wonderful collection and the thing is that nobody knew these photographs existed'
She valued the collection at up to $10,000 because the 'fan base for Elvis is still really strong.'
Those must be some of the most stunning pictures of a young Elvis I've ever seen and to think, they've never been seen in public before.'

EIN contributor Tony Stuchbury now informs us that these photos were in fact published in 1993 in 'PRIVATE ELVIS' along with her name and with a whole center section in the book. The lady who brought the photos along was unaware that her friend had previously done this. Obviously the BBC did not do too much research.

Jerry Weintraub, How Elvis saved me from disaster: In the recent documentary Jerry Weintraub (see below) tells how Elvis saved him from a business disaster.
>>. For New Year’s Eve 1975, I took Elvis Presley to Pontiac, Mich, for a concert at the Silverdome, which is the 80,000-seat stadium right outside Detroit.
I ran the concessions, which always did fabulously well. When Elvis sang, he used to take his scarf and give it to girls in the audience. He would change scarves 10 times in a single show: sweat, wipe sweat off his brow, give the scarf to some girl, and she would smell it and faint. I decided as a new item, in addition to all the key chains, pictures, and everything else, I was going to get scarves made. So I went to India, China, somewhere, and bought 35,000 scarves with his picture on them. When I arrived at the football stadium, my concessionaire came to me and said, "We got a big problem. The scarves you bought? Nobody’s buying them. You’re going to get stuck with 35,000 scarves."
Oh, my God, I thought. What a stupid mistake this is! Now I’m going to have to ship these things back. Why the hell did I do this? - (Right;Elvis the scarf, Pontiac 1975!)
I was sitting backstage with a frown on my face, which is very, very rare for me. And in comes Elvis and his entourage.
Elvis walks up to me, and says, "Are you OK? You look terrible."
"No, I’m not OK," I said. "I made a terrible mistake."
"Why?" said Elvis
"I bought 35,000 scarves and nobody cares about them."
He said, "What are you talking about? You got 80,000 people, you’re probably making $1 million tonight. What are you carrying on about?"
But I was still down.
So Elvis said, "If I fix this for you, will you smile?" And I said, "Sure, but I don’t know how you can possibly fix it." Well, he went out there and did the first two numbers, then he stopped and said, "Turn the lights on, I can’t see you." So they turned the lights in the stadium on, and Elvis said, "I tell you what I’m going to do. I’m going to take a break, get a Coca-Cola. If you go out to the concession stands, do me a favor and buy a white scarf. And then when you come back, wave it at me, and I’ll be able to see you." He went off. I sold 35,000 scarves. I was upset I didn’t have another 35,000.
I’m right much more than I’m wrong, but in that case I was really wrong.
So I guess the lesson here is: don’t buy 35,000 of anything unless you have Elvis Presley to sell them.

Larry Geller Unseen Elvis Photos: This week Elvis' friend Larry Geller has posted two new photographs from his archives.
From my personal collection. I took this picture of Elvis and Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits, with Col. Parker standing by, during filming of "Paradise Hawaiian Style" in 1965.
Plus another picture - never seen before - that I took during filming of "Paradise Hawaiian Style." Elvis loved little kids, becoming like one of them himself when he was around them.

Elvis in Art Graceland Competition: Memphis artist Debbie Crawford liked the way Elvis Presley revolutionized music in the 1950s, so when she decided to paint Elvis she wanted to change the way people look at him.
New York artist Laurentiu Todié produced a "digital painting" of Elvis' signature smile. "It is the grin I remember best from when I was a kid," he said.
"He didn't sing the regular old way. He showed us a whole new way of looking at music, and I wanted to show a new way to look at him as well," said Crawford. She submitted an abstract expressionist portrait of Elvis as her entry in Graceland's contest for the best representation of Elvis' rise to fame in 1956.
The abstract Elvis is one of dozens of entries arriving so far in a national contest in which a panel of Graceland judges will choose its favorites, then submit those pieces to Facebook. On Facebook, users can vote for the best by using the Facebook "like" feature. The entry receiving the most "likes" wins.
Crawford, head of sales and marketing for Pugh's Flowers, based her
acrylic painting of Elvis on a 1956 photo by New York photographer Alfred Wertheimer. It was one of a series of photos of Elvis returning by train from New York to Memphis after appearing on "The Steve Allen Show."
The Graceland contest emphasizes the 1956 theme by offering 56 prizes, and Crawford said she was especially drawn by one prize - a free trip to Memphis and Graceland. Although she lives in Memphis, she has never taken a tour of Graceland. "I wouldn't mind a trip to Graceland. I've been to the vigil (candlelight vigil in August), but I've never actually been inside Graceland."
At Graceland, marketing vice president Scott Williams said Graceland's archives include hundreds of pieces of art created by fans. "Thanks to social networking, we'll be creating a virtual gallery that allows art inspired by Elvis in 1956 to be viewed by Elvis fans around the world and will give them the opportunity to select their favorites and share those with their friends on Facebook."

'Spanish Eyes: By Request' New Import CD: Gravelroad Music (GRM) returns with yet another great package like ELVIS: GOOD TO BE BACK, this time it's SPANISH EYES: BY REQUEST, Elvis live at the Sahara Tahoe in May 1974.
Now the performance is presented by GRM at the correct speed, with improved sound and in a super-deluxe package.  Along with a booklet filled with Tahoe '74 facts, photos and detailed liner notes, there is also a reproduction of the rare May 1974 Sahara Tahoe reservation postcard with the color photo of Elvis on back, and another menu-sized, "Your Personal Invitation" card with the invite on the flip-side.  Both of these collectables are very hard to find, and suitable for framing.
GRM would like to consider this YOUR personal invitation to the May 24, 1974 midnight show at the SAHARA TAHOE.  For new fans
the show will be a thrill and for longtime fans, an absolute rediscovery.  This show captures Elvis being happy and giving his best.

Elvis promoter Jerry Weintraub Doco on TV: A self-made Brooklyn-born impresario, Jerry Weintraub was only 26 when he enjoyed his first great success with Elvis Presley. He went on to work with such legendary musicians as Frank Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond and John Denver.
There is a fascinating documentary about the legendary Hollywood producer, directed by Oscar nominee Douglas McGrath, where Jerry Weintraub, the film producer and personal manager steps out from behind the scenes as he takes his turn in the spotlight with the feature-length documentary HIS WAY. The film premieres Monday, April 4th at 9:00p.m. exclusively on HBO.
His stories about Elvis will be very interesting to hear. Charming, clever, confident, brutally honest, unabashed, unorthodox and sometimes outrageous, Weintraub presents a portrait of a man who was taught early in life to work hard and dream big, to pursue his visions and to never take no for an answer.
However on the Jimmy Fallon talk show yesterday Weintraub talked about the difficulties of setting up his Elvis concert on the July 4th holiday in Miami. The odd thing that EIN noticed was that Elvis only played Miami twice and that was actually in September 1970.
The film debuts on MONDAY, APRIL 4th (9:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT) in the USA exclusively on HBO.

Elvis Presley UK Sun Collection, the lost sleeve notes: An quirky story from author Nigel Goodall. The Elvis Presley Sun Collection was one of the first writing gigs that he undertook on spec for an album. On hearing about the project, he approached Shaun Greenfield, then the RCA product manager in the UK, with his offer to submit some sleeve notes for the 16-track compilation of recordings Elvis had made in the Sun Studios in Memphis between 1954 and 1955. Although RCA had asked Roy Carr of the New Musical Express to write the notes, it was not one hundred percent settled if he would. It was under those conditions and the proviso that if Carr went ahead, they would be featured on the finished album. Unfortunately Carr's sleeve-notes made the album even though Goodall had already delivered them to RCA. The only copy of the notes that Nigel retained was his own personal copy that were printed on a blank white record sleeve, and signed by Elvis in 1976, but regrettably lost during a house move in the early 90s.

Elvis USS Arizona Memorial Benefit Show - Golden Anniversary: Fifty years ago on March 25th, Elvis Presley helped raise money and directed much-needed attention to the stalled efforts to build the USS Arizona Memorial.
In the late 1950s the US Congress authorized the construction of the memorial to honor the crewmembers entombed when the USS Arizona was sunk during an aerial attack by the Japanese that plunged the United States into World War II. The Pacific War Memorial Commission was tasked with raising $500,000 to build the USS Arizona Memorial.
Ralph Edwards, host of the hit TV series, "This is Your Life," kicked off the public fundraising efforts on his Dec. 3, 1958 show when he featured Arizona crewmember and Medal of Honor recipient Samuel Fuqua. More than $95,000 was raised.
But contributions and attention dwindled over the next couple years, with less than half of the $500,000 raised. Presley's manager, Colonel Tom Parker, read about the stalled efforts in the Los Angeles Examiner.
Presley, who was already scheduled to be in the islands to film "Blue Hawaii," agreed to help by performing a benefit concert. It was his last live stage performance for more than eight years.
On March 25, 1961, the 26-year-old Presley took the stage to an arena packed with 4,000 frenzied, screaming fans who paid anywhere from $3 to $100 a ticket.
Introducing him Rear Admiral Campbell noted, "Our Honored guest tonight is a fine American. He has had many starring roles. In one of these roles, his role as a soldier in the U.S. Army, his performance was outstanding, and it's a great pleasure, to welcome him here, and to present to you... Elvis Presley."
Elvis performed 15 songs that night, including 'Heartbreak Hotel', 'Such
A Night', 'I Got A Woman', 'I Need Your Love Tonight', 'Don't Be Cruel', 'Are You Lonesome Tonight' and 'Swing Down Sweet Chariot'. He ended the show with a rousing performance of "Hound Dog," which included a slide across the stage on his knees. This was the final night that Elvis would wear his famous gold lame jacket on stage.
The concert raised about $54,000, and public and private donations poured in following the show, which received heavy publicity across the country. Hawaii's then-freshman Sen. Daniel Inouye, who today is the most senior member of the Senate, helped secure the final $150,000 to complete the construction during the fall.
"Mr. Presley's role is significant because it brought renewed interest in finishing the memorial and undoubtedly had an influence on the citizens of the United States and our government," Daniel Martinez, Pearl Harbor historian said.
The USS Arizona Memorial was dedicated the following year on Memorial Day — May 30, 1962. The gleaming, white, open-air structure straddles the Arizona's sunken hull, where 1,177 lives were lost. In all, some 2,400 sailors, Marines and soldiers were killed in the attack on Dec. 7, 1941.
Elvis is now being remembered for his contributions as the historic sites at Pearl Harbor enter a new era.
Pacific Historic Parks, in partnership with EPE, will start selling Commemorative T-shirts on Friday for $24.95 to commemorate the iconic crooner's historic benefit concert at Pearl Harbor's Bloch Arena on March 25, 1961. Proceeds will support the educational programs at the USS Arizona Memorial and the new $56 million Pearl Harbor Visitor Center.
"This is one of many examples we have of Elvis' desire to use his talent to help and honor others," Jack Soden, president and CEO of EPE said, "Especially considering his own military service, we're certain this one was especially significant to Elvis."

Note that the soundtrack to this sensational concert was released on the "Silver box-set" but is scheduled for a future FTD upgraded release.
