SUN
box set from EU!!!
According
to a posting on the FECC site a new EU label called "Memphis
Recording Service" - which now controls all the rights including
the original logos from the 1950s - will release a Sun box.
This
release has been 3 years in the making. Here is part of the
posting: To my understanding there will be 2 box sets that
will cover the entire Sun era.
The
first volume to be released in June 2005 will deal only in
the years 1953 - 1954. It will include what Mr Joseph Pirzada
calls a 'super CD' with all tracks remastered in original
Sun sound and will include a unreleased track from 1954 as
well as live recordings. He promises a sound never heard before
that even FTD could not afford to package.
Joseph
has said 'our recording sources are much better than BMG can
ever get'.
With
the package to my understanding, will also be a 7 inch vinyl
record of 'Thats all Right' pressed from the original Master
Mother stamper which will be identical to the original 45rpm
released by Sam Phillips in 1954 with all the hallmarks and
obviously the exact sound.
Included
is a 200 page book containing unpublised photographs including
colour with documents never before seen during the 53- 54
which will include the 'most important document ever from
1954' (I am not allowed to say what that is at this stage)
that has never before seen. All items will packaged together
within the Box set.
It
is also understood that major contributions to this package
include Scotty Moore, Ed Leek, John Heath, Joseph Tunzi, Stanley
Oberst, Sheriff Hanna, Russ Howe, Bud Glass are just the few
that are involved in this project. The book itself is written
by Joseph Pirzada and John M Heath.
On
speaking to Mr Pirzada he did say this is a package made by
the fans for the fans and items contained in this package
are never before seen and many of the items contained in this
package are completely out of the hands of the FTD version
due later in the year.
We
Elvis fans know what we want and this time you are going to
get it. There is absolutely no point on relying on pen pushers
because at the end of the day, they always let you down. I
won't let myself down, I know what I want as a fan. The main
significance on the FTD release is 1955. I want to make the
best Sun package that can be had which is why we are going
into every detail to cover the 53-54 era. On having spent
6 months last year in the mid -south in the USA on research
I am going to set the story straight. Every past book I have
seen have just got it wrong. The 1955 era will have to go
on volume 2 which will be out January 2006.
Making
both volumes the ultimate Sun collection. That will have more
unreleased tracks and will have a pressing from Sam Phillips
original Master plate 'Mystery Train'. The price for the item
apparently will be made very affordable! It's also understood
that these releases will be made available in shops of HMV
and Virgin in the UK.
With
all the rare items 'Memphis Recording Service' have secured,
it appears they will not be on the FTD release.
