The Books of Paul Lichter
|
One of the most prolific authors in the Elvis world is Paul Lichter. Since the mid 1970s Paul has released more than 25 books and photobooks about Elvis. The Paul Lichter Photo Archives comprises more than 40,000 transparencies! In addition, a number of Paul's quality "coffee table" releases are highly sought after by collectors.
In particular, hard-to-find titles like EP In Concert; Rebel Heart; Elvis Memories A Love Story; and Elvis Behind Closed Doors sell for a high price through dealers and on ebay.
On eBay Millennium Elvis was listed with a start price of US$99.99 and Elvis Thank You Very Much with a start price of $124.99.
In recent correspondence, Paul told EIN:
"Most recently I have supplied 99% of the photographs and material featured on the CD for Joe Tunzi's Charro book. I've also done the same for a new book and CD by Joe that should be out in January 2007 for the movie Tickle Me.
I am currently involved in some projects with Peter Haan and when these books are completed they will feature complete concerts with exclusive, never-before-seen photographs in many different rare Elvis jumpsuits. As a heads up I will tell you that in 1980 Sean Shaver and I purchased all of Judy Palmer's original transparencies. We split them 50/50. Sean used his in his big Elvis books, mine have never been produced for the public nor have they been viewed by anyone outside my personal archives. That will change in the near future with the above mentioned project and a potential project with my good friend, Bud Glass.
I have over 40,000 original images that are part of Paul Lichter's Photo Archives. Many have been seen but the majority, which consist of candids, Hollywood, personal and concerts from the 50's through the 70's have not." |

Millennium Elvis had the distinction of being released as "two books in one", with two main covers, each having its own sub-title:
"larger than life THE CANDIDS"
and
"as good as it gets THE CONCERTS"
The book was cleverly designed with its content split in two and the reader had to turn the book upside down to read and view the second half. |

At the time of its release this was certainly one of the best, if not the best, of its kind.
