'The Bicentennial King Vol. 5' New Import CD: The fifth release by the Millbranch Music label is another complete performance by Elvis Presley in the year of 1976. From May 6, 1976, this very long show (more than 90 mins) would not fit on one cd so this release simply has to be a 2CD set.
Out by December 7, 2012 this will be factory pressed, limited to only 300 copies with an 8 page booklet containing lots of photos and information regarding Elvis´ last concert series in Lake Tahoe. The sound is very good for an audience recording and Elvis is delivering a decent show with some rare songs, being in good spirits. This concert has NOT been released yet on factory pressed cd. All you fans out there know what to expect from Elvis´ 76 Lake Tahoe performances - so if you are interested be advised to get your copy as soon as you can.

We have 2 sources on cdr.. one in a bit better sound and slightly incomplete during the intros.. the other one a hair worse and complete..

‘Love Me’ New Vinyl EP!: Coming soon a ‘Compact 33 EP’ that could have been released in December, 1960. Supposedly everything was ready for this release back then. There is recently discovered official RCA paperwork - ‘RCA Listing Notice’ – that shows the preparation for the release, assigning catalogue number ‘LPC-123’ to the release. For reasons still unknown the release was withdrawn at the very last moment. The title track ‘Love Me’ was obviously well chosen to be released just before the Christmas of 1960. The other tracks ‘Hound Dog’, ‘Don’t Be Cruel’ and ‘Jailhouse Rock’ are of course huge hits for and by Elvis, adding excitement to the release. Now, 52 years later, this EP is finally released to and for the Elvis fans! A fantastic produced release in a stunning and wonderful looking full color sleeve. The EP is available in traditional black colored vinyl but also in special blue colored vinyl.
Check out your local dealers. This is selling for a higher price than 'Prince From Another Planet'! - a real collector's item!

US Congress considers 'Elvis Presley Day': While official Washington is preoccupied with such serious matters as averting sharp tax increases and severe government spending cuts Rep. Larry Kissell (D-N.C.) is focusing his efforts on passing an official declaration to observe Jan. 8 as “Elvis Presley Day.”
The resolution introduced this week is cosponsored by eight House Democrats and a lone Republican, and would recognize Presley’s birth in Tupelo, Miss. in 1935.
“Elvis Presley remains one of the most famous American entertainers of all time whose influence on music and whose cultural impact continues today,” the resolution said.
The legislation also notes that in addition to Presley’s vast catalogue of work — 750 songs and one billion records sold worldwide — the King of Rock and Roll also served honorably in the Army.
“Whereas Elvis Presley often shared his success with the less fortunate through benefit concerts and contributions to charity … (he also) exemplified the American dream by pulling himself up from poverty through hard work and personal talent,” the resolution said.

“Whereas in a time when the trade deficits of the United States continue to grow, the sustained export of American music and culture is a uniquely American product that can never be replaced by foreign competitors,” the resolution said.
Presley’s home Graceland is designated as a National Historic Landmark while iin 1993, the Post Office issued a first class stamp featuring Presley’s likeness, and is one of the most popular stamps sold.
The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform for consideration, but with only a few weeks left in the congressional session, it does not stand a strong chance of passage.

Humes High School to Close: It was announced this week that six Memphis city schools will be closed because of the low student occupancy.
One of the schools is the former Humes High School that Elvis, Marty Lacker and Red West attended back in the 50's. For the past decade or more it was changed to Humes Middle School and no longer a high school.

Humes, on the National Register of Historic Places for famous graduate Elvis Presley, is the face of an exodus in North Memphis running its course since the '80s when International Harvester, Kimberly-Clark and Firestone left town.

Like Elvis, Humes once served students who lived in densely populated public housing development. By 1999, fewer than half of the 450 units at Hurt Village were occupied; at Lauderdale Courts, the fraction was much smaller.
As early as last spring, Cash anticipated Humes would be closed or repurposed. The sixth grade was moved to Gordon this fall, taking 140 students.
Marty Lacker comented to EIN that.. "The Mayor announced that the plans for the building will be changed to a school for the performing arts. How fitting is that."

Cliff Richard and Elvis Duets Album: Sir Cliff Richard (now aged 72) would like to record a Cliff and Elvis 'Duets' Album and has already contacted EPE but they appear to have turned it down. He even has the album cover ready.
Early on he was known as Britain's answer to Elvis Presley but emerged as a superstar in his own right. It's estimated that Cliff has sold 250 million records over his career, from early on with The Shadows to his hugely successful solo career.

Alanna Nash Elvis book nominated: "Elvis and the Memphis Mafia," by Alanna Nash with with Billy Smith, Marty Lacker and Lamar Fike, has been nominated by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in its salute to 100 Great Stories by the school's alums. The University has noted, "For the launch of our centennial year, the J-School curated a list of 50 great stories that illustrate the excellence and historic sweep of Columbia journalists’ work. The collection is intended not as a list of the best work, but a representative snapshot of your achievements over the past century."
This is for the culmination of the Journalism School’s centennial in April 2013.

..Elvis Presley jerked his tenuous way across the stage, "sang" 8 or 10 songs, thumped on a guitar, fell to the floor, knocked over microphones and set off a din of teenage squealing unparalleled since the heyday of Sinatra.
At matinee and evening performances before nearly full houses on each occasion (the auditorium holds 10.000). Elvis the Pelvis started each show with a small tiny belch and on each occasion brought the house down. It was that kind of show.
When police started to move in, Elvis jerked his way back to the center of the stage and comparative safety of the trio which backs him up. He flings his limbs about and quivers in such a way as to make one think he might have a trick knee or hip, possibly from an old war injury, but this is not the case. This is just Elvis Presley.

Elvis Rolex - A FAKE!: Elvis Matters have just announced that the Rolex for auction at Christie's (see below) is a fake. Elvis Matters received an email from Loanne Parker. The Rolex was never given to Elvis by the Colonel, nor did Elvis ever wear it. She noted..
1 - The last thing Colonel would give Elvis was jewelry. Colonel was appalled at the amount of money Elvis spent on jewelry.
2 - Colonel never referred to himself as Elvis' "pal". That was not their relationship.
3 - A gift would not be engraved "Col. Tom Parker". He would have used simply "Colonel" or the nickname Elvis called him.
It would be interesting to know who is claiming this is an authentic item.

Elvis' Rolex for Auction: A Christie's specialist displays a watch showing the engraving, given to Elvis Presley by his manager for Christmas in 1976. The watch, estimated to sell for $9,500 or more, is a diamond-set Rolex given to Presley in 1976 by his longtime manager Tom Parker. It is engraved, "Elvis Merry Christmas your pal Col. Tom Parker." It was the last Christmas for Presley, who died the following year.
The watch estimated at $9,500 to $12,750 will go on sale in the Pop Culture auction on Nov. 29 in London.
Also up for auction is Madonna's corset worn on her 1990 "Blond Ambition" tour. Designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier it is of green silk with conical cups and beaded fringe, embroidered with candy stripes of opalescent sequins and peppermint bugle beads. Christie's estimates that the corset will sell for at least $16,000.
The Christie's auction is next Thursday.

'The Elvis Today Blog Volume 2' New Book: The second volume of The Elvis Today Blog is now available, collecting 230 posts from January 8, 2010 to August 16, 2012. A special bonus post features a previously unreleased interview with Elvis’ first drummer D.J. Fontana. The foreword is written by Michael Jarrett, who wrote "I’m Leavin’" and "I’ll Be Home On Christmas Day" for Elvis.
"When I started the Elvis Today Blog on August 16, 2007, I had no idea it would result in a book. And certainly not in two," says author Thomas Melin, a public relations officer living in Sweden.
The most common reaction Thomas gets from friends and colleagues when they learn that he runs an Elvis blog is, "What is there to tell?" And it’s a justified question. After all, Elvis has been gone for 35 years now.
"So I start to explain. I tell them about all the albums with unreleased material that the official collectors label Follow That Dream Records keeps pouring out. I also mention the shows touring Europe with former members of Elvis’ band members. And I talk about the books that continue to be written."
That’s the stuff Thomas writes about. And he tells it from his perspective, what he thinks of a certain album, a concert or a book. He also uses the blog to share some of the many Elvis memories he’s had over the years.
"The interest in Elvis is as high as ever, certainly as big as when I became an Elvis fan over 30 years ago. And being a fan is as fun today as it was then. So was writing the posts that ended up becoming The Elvis Today Blog Volume 2, running from post number 271 right up to post number 500. I hope that fans have as much fun reading it," says Thomas Melin.

Elizabeth Montgomery, Elvis and her Tumultuous Life: Bewitched star Elizabeth Montgomery could get anything she desired with the magical twitch of her nose but struggled to find happiness off-screen, a startling new book has revealed.
The book claims that the blonde beauty ran through four tumultuous marriages and bewitched many of Hollywood’s leading men. One of the sexiest and most desirable women in Hollywood cast a spell on stars like Elvis Presley, Dean Martin and Gary Cooper.
She was on-set while Elvis was filming 'Kid Galahad' co-staring her second husband Gig Young. "He was married to Elizabeth Montgomery, and when she would come up on the set, Elvis would just go bananas. God she was beautiful. This was a boxing picture, and Elvis would get up in the ring and dance up and down on the ropes, just cooing over her." noted Elvis' friend Lamar Fike. She also had that Ann-Margret vibe.
However the daughter of movie legend Robert Montgomery seemed drawn to troubled men, not nice guys. She was always looking for the ‘bad boy’, which may have been part of her rebellion against her father. Though she had her Bentleys and Beverly Hills mansion and made millions from Bewitched, ultimately she had a dark side to her.
In the early sixties, the actress became a close friend of President John F Kennedy.
Montgomery became a star as Samantha Stephens, the bubbly, nose-twitching housewife witch of ‘Bewitched’ yet her four marriages were as troubled as her affairs.

Lisa Marie on Elvis' Massive UK Singles Success: To round off the UK Official Singles Chart 60th anniversary celebrations, they spoke to Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of the most successful solo artist in UK chart history - Elvis!
Elvis Presley, or The King Of Rock And Roll as he would become to be know, made his UK chart debut in 1956 when his track Heartbreak Hotel peaked at Number 2 on the Official Singles Chart. Later that same year, he landed his first Number 1 single with All Shook Up. This would prove to be the first step on the way to setting the record for the most amount of Number 1 singles in British history. To date, Elvis has had 21 Number 1s., and has sold over 21.7 million singles in the UK alone.
Despite his tragic and untimely death in 1977, Elvis’ legacy remains incredibly strong in the UK. Over the last decade he has sold over 5.7 million albums and 2.2 million singles (this includes 1.3 million digital track downloads). In the last 18 months alone he has sold an incredible 317,000 albums and 333,000 track downloads.

For many years there was a recording in circulation that was basically unlistenable. This must be the most historically important audience tape to have turned up in recent years from the concert years. The MSG Garden shows were a true career highlight for Elvis, and opening night on June 9, 1972 was The Night. Moments before this recording started, Jackie Kahane was booed off the stage, but all that was forgotten once Elvis stepped on stage. He gave New York a night to remember. In fact, this may well be the best of the four MSG shows. Elvis’ performance is super-tight and his voice is just incredible. THIS is the show that the New York media all attended; and now, after 40 years, you can finally hear the actual performance that got him so many glowing reviews. |

- 'It's Christmas Time' drops from 60 to 64 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart
for w/e 1st December, 2012 with sales of 8456 units. Total sales to date:
1,416,367 units. It also drops from 3 to 5 on the Catalog Album Chart but
remains at 9 on the Holiday Album Chart.
- 'The Classic Christmas Album' jumps from 174 to 152 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart and from 26 to 22 on the Country Album Chart with sales of 4,007 units. Total sales to date: 9026 units. It also jumps from 142 to 126 on the Top Current Album Chart (top 200 minus catalog albums) and is on Holiday Album Chart at 33.
- 'Blue Christmas' jumps from 19 to 17 on the Holiday Songs Chart.
- 'Prince From Another Planet' debuts on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart at 187 and 148 on the Top Current Album Chart (Top 200 minus catalog albums) with sales of 3423 units.

Deep Purple's lead singer rates Elvis The Best: In a recent interview with Ian Gillan of the group Deep Purple when asked 'Who in your opinion is the greatest'? he noted...
Ian Gillan: It’s all very different. I don’t think it’s a science but if you were ask me who had the greatest voice in rock music of all time I would have to say a young Elvis Presley, without a doubt. He was the Pavarotti of rock music. I remember listening to Dame Kiri Te Kanawa a few years ago on the BBC and the presenter asked her who she thought was the greatest voice she had ever heard. I was expecting her to say something like Caruso, Joan Sutherland or Pavarotti, but she said the young Elvis. He touched us all, he got through to us, his personality. Technically Elvis was perfect, his pitch and tone were absolutely wonderful and his sense of rhythm, something came deep inside him that literally did touch us all. That’s a secret of greatness.
Q. You have been screaming rock music for over 40 years. How do you do it?
IG: I think it’s quite natural, I do a lot of it, and so I keep myself fairly fit. My mates who were singers they quit to enjoy their success or raise families and they didn’t continue. Then they tried to come back years later but it was very difficult because vocal cords, unlike guitar strings, are unforgiving, you can’t change them.

'Snoopin´ Round My Door (1955 – 1977)' new 3CD Import set: 1956 is without any doubt the most crucial year of Elvis’ career. The Hillbilly Cat became the King of Rock & Roll during that year. Elvis was the first true rock star, and 1956 is the year where the whole thing just exploded for him. With a fresh RCA Victor recording contract in his pocket, an ambitious new manager named Thomas A. Parker promoting him, and nationwide television exposure to look forward to, the year looked very promising right from the outset. Even though some of the RCA Victor execs expressed concern about the quality of the material recorded at the January 1956 session in Nashville, the first single from that session, ‘Heartbreak Hotel’, became a huge hit thanks to his appearances on the Dorsey Brothers ‘Stage Show’. From that point onwards, Elvis could do no wrong. He recorded so many great, classic songs that year, that it’s quite a task to list them all: ‘I Was The One’, ‘Blue Suede Shoes’, ‘My Baby Left Me’, ‘Lawdy Miss Clawdy’, ‘I Want You, I Need You, I Love You’, ‘Hound Dog’, ‘Don’t Be Cruel’, ‘Love Me Tender’, ‘Too Much’, ‘Love Me’, ‘Paralyzed’… the list goes on and on. These recordings define Elvis’ greatness: they are the reason why we still listen to him today, more than 35 years after his death.
Instead of using the regular versions, we wanted to dig a little deeper.

So we searched out alternate versions from jam sessions, rehearsals, live shows, and in one instance, a re-recording. Most are complete versions, some are fragments, a few are mere one-liners – but they all help in explaining the importance that these songs had on the remainder of Elvis’ career. These songs were so crucial to him that, like it or not, he had to do them on stage. Much has been made of the sloppiness with which he performed some of them in his final years, which is undeniably true, but there are also numerous examples where he did very credible versions of these songs or where he tried to reinvent them.
Instead of telling you what to listen out for and what to enjoy, we felt it would be more fun to make you do the exploring. The fun of releases like this is the surprise of hearing something that you weren’t expecting.

'Elvis: Walk A Mile In My Shoes' - EIN Review: 'Elvis: Walk A Mile In My Shoes' is subtitled “Arjan Deelen talks to the

Arjan Deelen's interviews were carried out over a 14-year period and he interviewed everyone from Scotty Moore & D.J. Fontana and the TCB Band through to Shaun Nielsen, Jim Murray & Terry Blackwood, The Memphis Boys, Mary & Ginger Holladay and many, many more.
The book is publicised as a feast for the eye, with almost 300 rare and unpublished photos of Elvis, in some cases sourced from the original negatives and dias. These photos cover the whole spectrum of Elvis’ career, from 1954 to 1977.

"What the Beatles thought about Elvis" Not Quite So!: - Marty Lacker has written to EIN pointing out the major error in the recently reported story (see below) about a new interview with The Beatles discussing Elvis.
This week's media report stated.... "Bishop was given unparalleled access to the band after building a strong rapport with John, Paul, George, Ringo and their entourage. Presley, though a hero of theirs, was scorned after they first met in Memphis that year."
As Marty correctly notes..
... The Beatles didn't ever meet Elvis in Memphis, the one and only time all 4 of them met him was in August,1965 at his Perugia Way house in Bel Air, California.
I do agree with them about his shifty records from '63 to '69 which were mainly the crummy movie songs that Parker and the movie producers got him to sing in the films. They primarily came from Hill & Range writers who were influenced by Parker and Freddy Bienstock of H&R who didn't give a damn just as long as |

they had the publishing on the songs so that they could personally make money. Elvis' recording career suffered because of it. That is why I wanted him to cut at American studios in Memphis with Chips Moman and the American Studio band because I wanted him to return to have #1 and top 10 records that he was capable of and so richly deserved. Latest Billboard Album Charts: The following appeared on the Billboard charts.
'It's Christmas Time' jumps from 87 to 60 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart
for w/e 24th November, 2012. It also remains at 3 on the Catalog Album Chart and
remains at 9 on the Holiday Album Chart.
'The Classic Christmas Album' is a new entry on The Billboard Top 200 Album Chart at 174 and jumps from 56 to 26 on the Country Album Chart with a 'Pacesetter Award' for the greatest sales gain.
No other catalog chart information available at present.
We are waiting for this week's chart to see how 'Prince From Another Planet' has officially done.

Bernard Lansky Dies Aged 85: Bernard Lansky, the Memphis retailer who helped a young Elvis Presley establish his signature clothing style of pegged pants, two-toned shoes and other flashy duds in the 1950s, has died. He was 85.
Julie Lansky, the clothier's granddaughter, said he died Thursday at his Memphis home.
Bernard Lansky and his brother Guy started a retail business in Memphis in 1946, with help from a $125 loan from their father, Samuel.
After World War II, the store started selling Army surplus goods on Beale Street. When the supply dried up, they opened a high-fashion men's store, where Bernard Lansky established his reputation as a natural salesman and storyteller.
Lansky Bros. ended up supplying Presley with the pink and black shirts and other outfits.
"It's a statement to say that he dressed one of the most influential entertainers of all time," said Julie Lansky, "He knew that for any entertainer, they had to look different."
Even though his style of dress changed over the years — including sparkling jumpsuits — Presley shopped at Lansky Bros. the rest of his life. Lansky even picked out the white suit and blue tie that Presley wore when he was buried.
"I put his first suit on him and his last suit on him," Lansky was fond of saying. |

By the early 1950s, Lansky's shop was known as a place where a man with a taste for flash could find the styles Lansky referred to as "real sharp."
At the time, Beale Street was a hot spot for blues, rhythm and blues and jazz, and drew a colorful parade of musicians, gamblers and hustlers from the Mississippi Delta.
Presley began hanging around Beale Street as a teenager and picked up quickly on its music.
Lansky first met the future King of Rock 'n' Roll when Presley was just a teenager working as an usher at a nearby theatre and liked to window shop at Lansky's.
After Elvis' success the Lansky brothers often opened the store at night so Presley could avoid drawing crowds and took outfits to Graceland for him to check out.
Lansky dressed him for the "Louisiana Hayride" and his first TV spots on the Tommy Dorsey and Ed Sullivan shows.

Elvis Presley's Conquest of NYC: Billboard has also grabbed onto the publicity for the new RCA release. >>> It was June of 1972. Though his career had enjoyed more triumphs than most any other in showbusiness, there was one city that Elvis Presley wanted to conquer: New York City. It had been over fifteen years since the "King of Rock & Roll" had performed there -- and he had not forgotten how he felt.
"He was back in a city that a few years earlier had caused him the most ridicule -- which actually turned out to be good," explained "Memphis Mafia" member Jerry Schilling. "He was really put down in New York for the TV shows, especially Milton Berle," he said of his controversial early performances. "It was a very strange environment for him. Being from the south, and being around Sam Phillips, New York was a scary place for a young boy from the south -- especially if you're in the spotlight and you're 21 or 22 years old." |

However, this time around, Presley exerted his power over the Big Apple. The evidence can be heard on "Prince From Another Planet," released this week.
In addition to Schilling, legendary musician / journalist Lenny Kaye was there. Originally there to review the show for Cavalier, he told Billboard that reminiscing about it brought back a wave of memories. "I was small in the 50s when I first heard Little Richard, then Elvis. I know how much that music energized me, and helped me decide who I wanted to be when I grew up. To witness some of the greats as they showed themselves to the world is a great blessing, and I'm very happy to have witnessed Elvis in the flesh."
Kaye, who also contributed a 5,000 word essay to the liner notes of the project, also commented on the uniqueness of a Presley New York performance. "New York is not the south. When he was touring regularly, his base was the southern quadrant. He never played much live in the 50s. I think the Colonel moved him to movies and merchandising, and kept him away from his audience. I think that toward the end of the 60s, it started to get to him. He thought his movies were very formulaic and not challenging. No matter how much he was complicit in this, I think he had the heart of a performer. At the end of the decade, I think he put his foot down. But he never played New York -- even in the 50s. When he came here, it was to do a television show."
It was a packed house that witnessed the Presley magic at the Garden -- including many of his contemporaries. Paul Simon, George Harrison and a young Bruce Springsteen -- who had just signed with Columbia that week -- were all noted at the show. "Many of his fellow musicians wouldn't have missed the opportunity to see him -- especially if it was just a subway ride away," said Kaye. "David Bowie even took a plane from England to see the show. Here's one of the most iconic and most inspirational figures in music, and of course, you'd want to be there."
Forty years later, Schilling still marvels at the artist Presley was. "When he went out on tour again, not only was he still a rebel, but he had developed vocally, as well as his stage presence," he says. "I think of all that when I look back on that time. His playing Madison Square Garden -- possibly the most well known venue in the world for the first time -- was so exciting. It was very emotional for him in a lot of ways."

New Footage Shows Elvis Saying He'd Like to Play England: And from VVN Music.... Elvis Presley famously never played a show in England, much to the chagrin of his British fans. Now, newly unearthed footage shows that the U.K. was, indeed, on his mind for a possible future stop.
A spectacularly rare press conference by Elvis Presley accompanied by his dad Vernon Presley, that took place the day before his legendary four nights at New York's Madison Square Garden in 1972, has been included for the very first time as part of the release of Elvis Presley: Prince From Another Planet, released today on Sony Music.
In one of the last press conferences that Elvis Presley would do, just five years before he died, Elvis spoke of his desire to perform in Britain. When asked if he would play abroad Elvis said "I've never been to Britain, I'd like to, very much, I've never been out of this country except in the service."
The rare footage has been unearthed and added to a brand new anniversary edition of Prince From Another Planet, as recorded live at Madison Square Gardens. As well as the two CD's which feature the Saturday show of his long-awaited New York residency, the bonus DVD features hand held film of his afternoon show and an incredible documentary. This legendary 1972 concert was the first time that Elvis Presley had played in New York, despite his career starting 15 years earlier. It would also be his last.
Rarely is unseen footage of Elvis in concert discovered, footage of the Saturday afternoon show, captured on hand-held camera by a fan is a rare treat. The film is a revealing portrait of a physically commanding Elvis and his powerhouse TCB Band, background vocalists, and orchestra.

'What the Beatles thought about Elvis' newly found interview: He was the King of Rock'n'Roll, who could reduce millions to a swooning frenzy with a flick of his hips. They were the Fab Four, who drove legions of girls to a screaming, hysterical frenzy with a shake of their mop-tops. For the cameras, the King and the Fabs were all mutual bonhomie and back-slapping. But a newly discovered interview reveals how the Beatles, at the height of their fame, slate Elvis for not playing live and pour scorn on their roots, their films and even some of their fans.
Given to a US DJ called Jerry G Bishop over a series of weeks as the group travelled around the States on their 1965 summer tour, the previously unreleased interviews have remained in the hands of an LA record executive – until now.
One interview reveals snide put-downs on everything from the Cavern Club ("a dirty old cellar") to musicals ("they're boring") and some of the band's fans, who only turned up at gigs "to riot". Even their own films don't escape. On Help! John Lennon admits: "It's a bit of a let-down when it gets to the Bahamas ..."

A cocky McCartney dismisses the King's 1960s output: "Yeah, well of course, since when I was 16, I've loved his records. We used to do a lot of his songs until we started doing our own … but I don't like the new stuff half as much – we told him that last night."
Presley had all but given up making music in the mid-60s and had become something of a recluse, shunning personal appearances and spending most of his time making films.
In another honest assessment of Elvis, Lennon said he quizzed him on why he only made films: "We were asking him about just making movies, and not making any personal appearances, and I think he enjoys making movies so much ... We couldn't stand not doing personal appearances – we get bored quickly." (EIN note, The Beatles stopped touring themselves the following year!)
When asked by Bishop whether a joint Elvis/Beatles album was in the pipeline, Lennon retorted: "None of us have ever liked those albums where they put two people together. I'd hate an album like that."
The tape is expected to fetch up to £35,000 when it is sold at auction in London at the end of this month.

'Prince From Another Planet' in Wall Street Journal: Great to see the new MSG release getting main steam coverage and publicity.
The Wall Street Journal recently ran the article "When Elvis Played New York — Nervously."
Uneasy in his chair behind a long table at the New York Hilton, Elvis Presley listened as a reporter asked why he had decided to resume touring. "Just as soon as I got out of the movie contracts, I started to do live performances again," Presley said. "There are so many places that I haven't been yet. I've never played New York."
Presley's news conference on June 9, 1972, occurred just hours before the start of his sold-out, four-concert run at Madison Square Garden—the only New York City arena shows of his career. Colour video of his 20-minute media Q&A is part of the new "Elvis Presley: Prince From Another Planet" (RCA/Legacy) 3-disc set OUT TODAY. RCA recorded the afternoon and evening shows on June 10 and released a double LP nearly two weeks later to beat bootleggers to the punch.
Don Lance, a fan, surreptitiously filmed the afternoon performance on the new set's DVD.
"A well-connected friend got a bunch of us tickets in the fourth row, center," said Mr. Lance, who was 24 at the time. "My girlfriend snuck my camera into the Garden in her shoulder bag along with six rolls of film. To steady the camera during the show, I put it on a tripod I had brought in strapped to my leg. Each time I went to film, friends on either side blocked security's view."
Mary Malin, daughter of Joe and Carmel Malin, both of whom played violin at the Garden behind Presley—attended one of the concerts. "I was 17 years old and wasn't really into Elvis—most kids my age weren't listening

to him then," she said. "But my mother had tickets for great seats and insisted I go, calling it 'a happening.' So I took my girlfriend. By the end, we were both standing on our seats and screaming like everyone else."
Presley certainly felt pressure. Many rockers showed up for the concerts, including George Harrison, David Bowie, Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel and members of Led Zeppelin. It also didn't help that Jackie Kahane, Presley's warm-up comedian, ran into trouble on opening night.
"Poor Jackie was booed off the stage—the audience wanted Elvis and that was it," recalled Joe Guercio, Presley's musical director. "When Elvis began to walk out on stage, he was nervous. As he passed me, he gave me one of those million-dollar glances that said, 'Let's do it.' Then a shower of camera flashbulbs went off, the crowd loved him, and he was at ease."
Instead of flying in Presley's horn and string players who were based in Las Vegas, Mr. Guercio turned to Joe Malin, a local New York violinist and music contractor, who hired the necessary musicians. "He brought in top studio jazz guys to play behind Elvis," Mr. Guercio said. "So as I'm conducting, I'm looking at greats like Al Cohn, Sonny Russo, Wayne Andre and Al DeRisi."

Mary Smiley (of 'Elvis Underground') is Dead: Mary Smiley passed away last month (October 15), aged 80 from heart disease. A name not well known to most Elvis fans, Mary was one of the major players in the "Elvis Underground", a secretive world of "believers" that Elvis didn’t die in 1977. While Gail Brewer-Giorgio started the "believers" movement and operated captured worldwide attention and big sales with her first few books about Elvis possibly having faked his death, Mary Smiley operated below the radar in a largely closed world of an often maliciously charged, ever changing network of newsletters and message boards.
Mary published her hardcopy newsletter, ‘The Elvis Beat’, for a number of years from the late 1980s and from the late 1990s presided over several covert message boards including the House of Lanterns, The Elvis Beat and Mary’s Private Board.
--- Regardless of what some may think of Mary, this grandmother was a colourful and formidable character who played a vital and important part in the "believers" movement. It is EIN’s view Mary was the most important person in the movement behind Gail Brewer-Giorgio (who disappeared from things Elvis around 2000), as Mary was there from the beginning, never left

its ‘grass roots’environment and was matriarch of its last potent phase as an intricate web of covert discussion forums.
Mary’s husband, Joe Sr., passed away three years ago from cancer. Mary is survived by her son, Joe Jr. and daughter, Shannon.
Showing the resilience of Elvis fans, the "Elvis Underground" still exists today, albeit on a much smaller scale as a generally impotent force compared to its peak from the late 1980s to early 2000’s.

Elvis Presley Blvd. will soon receive face lift: Elvis Presley Blvd., the street thousands of fans visit every year, is getting a face lift. And in the coming months you will see some $43 million in improvements along the blvd.
Renovations you can look for include upgrades to traffic signals, street lights and landscaping. A series of public meetings helped residents and business owners get a better understanding of what Elvis Presley Boulevard will look like in the future.
You know, everyone wants to live somewhere they are proud of - and if it looks nice they feel a lot better about being here, about supporting the businesses here, and living here," said Misty Rosser, Businesswoman.

'The Rebel and The King' featured in Huff Post: The Huffington Post yesterday featured an article on the Nick Adams / Allyson Adams book. The article mentions.. 'Walking In Memphis'; Adams writes glowingly of the loving interaction between Elvis and his parents, Gladys and Vernon, when he accompanied The King to Memphis as Elvis prepared for his Sept. 26, 1956, homecoming concert in Tupelo.
He stayed at the family home at 1034 Audubon Drive in Memphis for a week. (It wasn't until the following year that Elvis bought what would become the famous Graceland mansion).

Adams details the gargantuan breakfasts Gladys prepared for her famous son and other sumptuous meals and snacks, including, yes, those famous peanut butter-and-banana sandwiches Elvis so craved.
Here, the sense of Elvis as pop icon and homeboy-done-good roar through. Everywhere he and Adams go, they are mobbed -- at the fairgrounds where they won teddy bears for people by throwing baseballs at milk bottles, in a toy store and along the road after Elvis was flagged down by well-wishers who repeatedly ask him, "What's it like in Hollywood?" Hundreds lined the fence outside the home every day just to get a glimpse of him.
"It just read like a circus ride through Memphis," Allyson said, noting that the two alternately indulged in and escaped from the attention Elvis' fame brought them.

The '3000 South Paradise Road' new FTD: New flyers have been produced for the '3000 South Paradise Road' new August 1972 special double FTD release.
EIN has been informed that the audio from the August 12 Dinner Show soundboard has been vastly improved upon from its original 'Blazing Into The Darkness' bootleg release. Elvis was very focused and motivated at this engagement which is a surprise at his seventh Las Vegas season.
Our friend Rock Legend also reports that the rehearsal CD is pretty decent audio and better than expected.
Treats are a very relaxed ‘Blueberry Hill’, ‘My Babe’ with a very different James Burton guitar solo not heard in other versions and ‘True Love Travels On A Gravel Road’ is not the rehearsal that we know but a better version, closer to the original release.
Robert Frieser and Hans Slebos have collected some stunning and rare photos (EIN notes - Isn’t it great to see Elvis not in jumpsuit for a change!) plus tons of memorabilia and documents which make the whole package a real winner. Don’t miss out on this one.

Bruce Springsteen Names Elvis as Inspiration: Bruce Springsteen credits Elvis for being his musical inspiration in a new biography featured in The New York Times. The article looks at the ups and down of the pop icon and names him a worthy heir to Elvis Presley.
"We witness the rental of a first guitar after Mr. Springsteen saw Elvis on 'The Ed Sullivan Show.'"
Springsteen has often credited Elvis as the beginning of a new language in popular culture. In a speech at the Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas, Springsteen said his "genesis moment of inspiration" was in 1956 when he watched Elvis perform on "The Ed Sullivan Show."
Bruce Springsteen's black leather jacket is featured at the "ICON: The Influence of Elvis Presley" Exhibit at Graceland.
Recently Springsteen also talked of his own life and experiences with music from Elvis Presley to soul to punk and country music, he said, "Whatever the genre, it's all about how you're putting what you do together. There is no right way, no pure way of doing it, there's just doing it." |

Paraphrasing famed rock critic Lester Bang's Presley obituary, "Where Were You When Elvis Died?", Springsteen said, "Elvis was probably the last thing we were all going to agree on… We would never see eye to eye again."
Back on April 30, 1976 Bruce Springsteen hopped the fence at Graceland hoping to get to meet his idol. At 3am in the morning 26-year-old Springsteen and E-Street Band's Steve Van Zandt visited Graceland. When he saw lights blazing inside the mansion, Springsteen climbed over the wall and ran to the front door. But just as he was about to ring the doorbell, he was intercepted by security. Explaining who he was, Springsteen begged to be let inside but instead the unimpressed guards told him that Presley was out of town (which was true) and escorted him promptly to the sidewalk.
Springsteen proudly bears an Elvis fan club button on his successful 'Born to Run' album cover.

Elvis 1976 Setlist up for Auction: Elvis Presley’s set list scribbled on the back of an envelope is set to fetch a King’s ransom at auction. Fuelled by adrenaline, Elvis grabbed the first scrap of paper to hand to scribble down his set list before a show in Las Vegas. Today that hastily-written scrap, actually an envelope, is tipped to sell for £4,000.
The King jotted down the running order of 15 of his hit songs ahead of the 1976 concert. On the reverse he jotted down the words 'Introduce Engelbert (Humperdinck) and Roy Orbison’.
This was a reminder for him to give a shout out to the two famous singers who were in the audience at the gig at the Hilton Hotel in Vegas. Elvis’ stage director and musician Charlie Hodge afterwards found the envelope lying around backstage after the concert and kept hold of it. The piece of paper is now to be sold at auction accompanied by a letter of provenance from Hodge, who died in 2006.
Hodge wrote, 'I served as Elvis’ stage director and personal aide. I would hand Elvis his scarves and water while on stage, help him with his set lists and also sang harmony on stage with Elvis. the Hilton... for Elvis’ last engagement there ever in December 1976. It was my job to keep track of how much time we had been on stage and this list of songs was kind of a way to keep track.'
Auctioneer Darren Julien said: 'This item comes with very solid provenance. The handwriting is perfect and undoubtedly that of Elvis. This simple document gives us a fascinating insight into how Elvis almost chose at the last moment which songs he was to sing and in what order almost hours before he went on stage. On the reverse Elvis wrote "Introduce Engelbert, Roy Orbison" who were evidently in the audience for his performance.'

Sony Elvis Impersonators Downunder in TROUBLE?: Our good friend Lee Dawson at Elvis Express UK is troubled. He says.. Just what are the team over at Sony Australia thinking? Their official promotion campaign for the CD 'Elvis By Request' involves IMP-ing the King! Sony hired Elvis IMP Anthony Petrucci to carry out a national tour which will be ending on November 24th. The live tour has the IMP performing the songs that feature on the 2 CD album & he then signs the albums for the fans in attendance... talk about how to ruin a good Elvis album! Sony Australia do state that If this campaign is a success, then more impersonator shows will be likely for future releases.... Now wait one cotton pickin' minute. What's wrong with ELVIS, you do remember him right!
What a great opportunity for Sony Australia to seek out a strong live band to perform with either Elvis on a screen (a small scale concert as we get now) or get the hologram set up, then the future of Elvis promoting his albums would be amazing. FTD December Releases: Three new FTD releases for December.
- '3000 South Paradise Road' - A two disc 7" "Classic Album" type release with 16-page booklet. It takes a closer look at Elvis’ engagement at the Las Vegas Hilton in August of 1972. The main disc is the excellent Dinner show on August 12, and the second disc is culled from the rehearsals on August 4th, the date of the opening of the engagement.
As with '48 Hours To Memphis' this release has been prepared by Robert Frieser and Hans Slebos, who once again has done a fabulous job of collecting information and materials for the project. There will be additional information in the next few weeks.
'3000 South Paradise Road' provides a unique experience of Elvis rehearsing, 6 hours before the opening night at the Las Vegas Hilton on August 4, 1972. As disc 2 is captured on a personal tape recorder, the sonic quality is below standards, but historical significance more than compensates for its audio limitations. Disc 1 is a soundboard recording.
This is a great Las Vegas dinner show from August 11, 1972 with Elvis in a
confident mood, giving excellent performances on almost every song, and enjoying
being back on stage. Elvis wore a cool range of two piece suits and was up for
lots of karate action and with lots of energy. Previously released as the
bootleg 'Blazing Into The Darkness'.

Elvis moves Killers Brandon Flowers: Mormon rocker Brandon Flowers from band The Killers was shown a sacred text previously belonging to Elvis Presley and was stunned to see notes and messages from the rock 'n' roll icon written inside.
The Killers frontman was the face of his church's high-profile advertising campaign last year and as a reward for his patronage, religious leaders gave him permission to peruse some of the artifacts housed at their headquarters in Utah.
One item he discovered was a Book of Mormon which had belonged to Presley - and Flowers was fascinated with the handwritten notes made by the Heartbreak Hotel hit-maker.
He tells Q magazine, "Elvis wrote, 'There can be only one King'. He didn't like being called The King because, to him, Jesus Christ was The King. It was so cool that I got to see that."

Bob Holton author of 'The King is Dead' Dies: A notification we missed back in August - Author Robert R. "Bob" Holton, 89, was a journalist and author, he passed away mid-august. He was the founding editor of Common Sense (later The West Tennessee Catholic), the weekly newspaper of the diocese of Memphis. Mr. Holton wrote two books, an account of the funeral of Elvis Presley, The King is Dead (1998) and an autobiographical record of "a journey with three bishops", In the Beginning (1982).
Holton’s book was the story of the funeral director involved, Robert Kendall (Memphis Funeral Home). It answered several questions rampant in the ‘Elvis is alive’ story but of course those believers didn’t want to know.
Born in Reading Pennsylvania in 1923, he enlisted in the US Air Force in 1942. In 1954 he and his family moved to Manhattan, where he reported for the AP until 1966. His family moved to Memphis in 1975.
A Memorial Mass was celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Memphis back in August.

"Elvis Duets" Dvdr: Now on dvd a colorful collection of Elvis songs with the theme: ‘Duets’. During his movie career, Elvis recorded a vast amount of songs together with other vocalists. The result is a wide variety of songs and video clips out of the many well known Elvis movies. An entertaining collection that is nice to watch. Rare are the images of the 1960 ‘Welcome Home Elvis’ Frank Sinatra Tv-Special; they remain a unique momentum to see. Other rare performances include Lisa Marie’s duet with Elvis on ‘In The Ghetto’ during a Oprah Tv-show, complete with Gospel Choir. It is beyond anyone’s guess why this never turned in to a big hit; great performance. Also: Celine Dion’s duet with Elvis on ‘Amercian Idol’ and Martina McBride appearing – with Elvis on screen – on a tv-show to promote the ‘Christmas Duets’ album. The odd one out is a clip from ‘Beyonce & Jay-Z’. A nice produced dvdr with a special selection of songs and images.
EIN notes that it is a shame Celine Dion's name is spelt wrong on the cover!

'An Afternoon In The Garden' soon to hit GOLD: Going on previous rate of sales for 'An Afternoon In The Garden' and 'The Essential Elvis' (2CD) EIN contributor Brian Quinn has made a conservative extrapolation and estimate their sales as of this week are:
'An Afternoon In The Garden' - 498,098 Units. Estimated GOLD qualification within 2 weeks.
'The Essential Elvis' (2 CD) - 972,734 Units (including double sales under RIAA rules). Estimated PLATINUM qualification around March, 2013.
The 'Christmas Duets' sales are difficult to predict but as of 8th September, 2012 were 490,322 Units.
Of course, as already stated these figures are merely guestimates.
Interesting as "Prince From Another Planet" will soon give both Madison Square Garden shows the upgrade they truly deserve.

The Mobile E/S 29th August 1976 is an improvement upon the terrible A/S but not that much really. Elvis didn't up his performance on this poor 1976 tour until 4th September onwards. Take note there is no info on what the sound quality is like for either of these two release."

Elvis Presley is Dead!: A homeless man who died last week when he was run
over while sleeping outside a garage in San Francisco's South of Market area was identified Monday as Elvis Presley of San Francisco, according to the medical examiner. The dead man was Elvis Presley. (NO photo of the homeless man was provided as yet)
Presley, 55, was sleeping outside a garage on the 500 block of Third Street around 7 a.m. on Oct. 23 when a 28-year-old woman pulled her car forward out of the garage and drove over him, said police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza. Presley died at the scene. The death was found to be an accident.
Presley was well known to neighbours and others in the area and often told people he was related to the famed singer, but authorities were not able to find records that indicated he was, the medical examiner's office said.

Meanwhile on EBay..Fake Elvis Shirt sells for $3,750: On Ebay recently was a "ELVIS PRESLEY owned and worn Suede Shirt from Colonel Parker" which sold for $3,750 after 22 bids. While no photos of Elvis accompanied the auction and surprisingly little information, there was a supposed "signed and dated letter from Colonel Parkers Office attesting to it authenticity."
Sadly it looks like this was yet another fake.
Col Parker's widow Loanne Parker notified Elvis Matters, "I saw the item on ElvisMatters web site regarding whether the Elvis shirt COA was actually signed by Colonel. IT WAS NOT! August 8, 1978 Colonel was in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Hilton hotel. When there, he used the Hilton office stationery and I typed the letters. My initials (at that time "lm") were always at the bottom of the letters. The stationery used for that letter was Box 417 and |

at one time that was the PO box number for his office, but by 1978 it had been changed and 417 was no longer used. Most of all the style of this letter was not one Colonel would have used AND he did not sign his name that way on letters. That letter is not authentic. Loanne Parker"

Alfred Wertheimer's "The Kiss" Featured in New Book: The man who captured Elvis during his rise to stardom is currently featured in a new book dedicated to the most notable photographers of our time. In a new article titled "The Faces Behind the Lens," Alfred Wertheimer is seen with his famous photo "The Kiss."
According to the Daily Mail, photographer Tim Mantoani reveals the faces behind some of the most memorable photos of the last generation. Wertheimer's "The Kiss" portrays 21-year-old Elvis in a passionate kiss with a woman backstage at the Mosque Theater in Richmond, Virginia on June 30, 1956.
In this new coffee table book titled "Behind Photographs: Archiving Photographic Legends," Mantoani has compiled 153 portraits of the world's most famous photographers and their most iconic images.
"My hope is that this project will become a way for future generations to not only appreciate the photography of our time, but the photographers as well."

'I Love You Because' Lisa/Elvis New video NOW: Lisa Marie Presley premiered her new video 'I Love You Because' an emotional duet with her late father Elvis on CMT - but it was soon removed from YouTube by the Internet police.
The single 'I Love You Because' was out October 16th, and the full video was available on iTunes this weekend. Lisa Marie also announced she will hit the road for two weeks in November in support of her new album "Storm & Grace," starting November 1 in Tunica, Miss. and ending November 17 at Carnegie Hall in New York, NY.
The video was a personal project for Lisa Marie, in which she introduces her four children as the continuation of her father’s legacy.

Jordanaire Louis Nunley passed away at 81: It is with great sorrow that we have to let you know that Louis Nunley who was with The Jordanaires for several years passed away last night at the age of 81. Louis Nunley (right, next to Gordon Stoker and Ray Walker) never worked with Elvis but was a familiar face to most fans. The Jordanaires lineup consisting of Gordon Stoker, first tenor and manager, Neal Matthews, second tenor and lead, Hoyt Hawkins, baritone, and Ray Walker, bass, would be the group's most stable lineup, lasting throughout the 1960s and 1970s. The group changed again in 1982, when Hoyt Hawkins died. His replacement was Duane West, formerly of Sonny James' backup group, the Southern Gentlemen. The lineup remained constant for another two decades, with West leaving due to illness in 1999 (he died in 2002). In 1999 his replacement was baritone Louis Nunley, formerly of the Anita Kerr Singers. Neal Matthews died the next year. He was replaced by new lead Curtis Young. Hugh Jarrett died at 78 on May 31, 2008, from injuries sustained in an auto accident in March. And now Louis Nunley is gone too... R.I.P.

Elvis Presley still Third Highest Earning: While Elizabeth Taylor tops the Forbes 2012 List Of The Top-Earning Dead, it is still hard to beat Michael Jackson at this year's #2. The pop singer, who died in 2009 at the age of 50, still raked in more than any living artist in the past 12 months, $145M - but still a notable $25Mil drop from last year.
Jackson's earning are also due to the 50% stake in Sony's ATV catalog, which features artists such as The Beatles, Lady Gaga etc,
But this year that wasn’t enough to keep Jackson at the top of the list, as beating him to the No.1 spot is his old friend Elizabeth Taylor (right, with Elvis in 1957). The estate of the glamorous actress, who was 79 when she passed away last year, earned a staggering $210 million last year.
Most of that money came from the record-breaking Christie’s auctions of the star’s jewelry, costumes and art work, which brought in $184 million. Every one of the 1,800 lots sold. The most expensive item was an 1889 Van Gogh painting that went for $16 million.
Elvis Presley however still had $55 million in earnings pulling in the same amount as he did in 2011. As with Jackson, Cirque Du Soleil launched a whole show around Presley’s music in 2010, Viva Elvis, at MGM’s Aria casino in Las Vegas. But with ticket sales flagging, MGM asked Cirque to bring down the curtains at summer’s end. Luckily for Elvis, traffic was brisk at Graceland this year, making up for the lost revenue from the show.

Elizabeth Taylor won't really be in the top competition next year and Jackson's earnings will no doubt continue to drop and will eventually fall below Elvis'. Elvis left the building 35 years ago - will Michael Jackson still be in the list in 31 years time? - EIN truly has its doubts.

"If I Can Dream" Elvis & Celine Dion Duet Released: As we noted below, the new compilation album, "The Best Of Celine Dion & David Foster," features the 'If I Can Dream' duet with Elvis.
The album is currently available for preorder on Amazon.com and will be released internationally on October 30, but is available in Asia already as a download.
Celine Dion first performed alongside Elvis in a virtual duet on the American Idol TV special "Idols Give Back", a charity show broadcast in April 2007 to help raise funds for poverty relief programs in America and Africa.
