"The Memphis Boys" get Beale Street Honor: Marty Lacker is proud and happy to announce that The American Band aka "The Memphis Boys" (right- who played on Elvis' all-important 1969 Memphis sessions) will be honored with a Beale Street Blues Note on Beale Street in Memphis at 5:PM, August 13, 2012 during Elvis Week.
All Elvis fans are invited to the ceremony which they can attend free of charge.
In addition the band will be giving a concert on the night of August 14th across from Graceland behind where the Lisa Maria airplane is located & sponsored by EPE. Chips Moman and I plan to attend if Chips has recovered from his hip replacement surgery by then. EPE is erecting a huge temporary building that supposedly will hold 1,000 people to see the concert. - Marty Lacker

The box holds 20 Original Albums and is released on August 6th 2012.

'Christmas Lights On A Friday Night' - New Import CD: Coming soon from the Straight Arrow label a special double cd release - Elvis' Las Vegas December 3, 1976 Dinner & Midnight Shows.
As the final month of 1976 rolled around, Elvis arrived in Las Vegas for what would be his 15th and final visit as a performer, playing 15 concerts to some very mixed press reviews. By all accounts, health and weight issues had unfortunately contributed to a lowering of the very high standards Elvis had once embraced as a live artist. Still, the fans always came, and sometimes Presley showed more than a hint of the magic that made him the greatest singer of all.
On this collection are the second and third appearances of the ten-day stand, and Elvis is in quite good form, including seasonal favorite "Blue Christmas" along with favorites like "Tryin' To Get To You", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "America the Beautiful" and the powerhouse gospel of "How Great Thou Art". As always, his rendition of "Hurt" is thrills both audiences. It was a Friday night to for any fan to savor throughout the holiday season.

As fans have come to expect, the recordings are of very good audio quality audience tape, sourced from original master tapes recorded by British super-fan "Gemini.” The double digipak is filled with liner notes and photos from both shows that December 3rd. Again, these recordings have been carefully engineered to be presented in the best possible sound.

NOW UPDATED - 'Elvis Memphis to Madison 1977' The Gas Station Incident: Bruce Frey witnessed Elvis stopping a brawl at a Madison Gas Station in June of 1977 - thirty-five years ago this week - the very last time Elvis would be on tour.
This particular public encounter with Presley at the gas station has been written about numerous times. Bruce Frey first reported the event to the local newspapers the next day.
Shirley Dieu first met Elvis and his gang back in 1975 when she attended a Las
Vegas concert. During the following 2 years Shirley regularly went on tour with
Elvis, as well as holidaying with him. On June 25th 1977 she was on tour with
Elvis when the infamous Madison Gas Station incident took place - Shirley Dieu recently
told Bruce Frey what she remembered.

Elvis tops "White Artists with Soul" Chart : To celebrate Black Music Month, Chart Watch collated a list of the biggest white artists in the history of Billboard's R&B chart. That may seem to be an odd way to celebrate Black Music Month, but it dramatizes that black music has influenced countless artists in a wide range of genres. Elvis Presley, whose hits 'That's All Right (mama)', 'Hound Dog', 'Mystery Train', 'I Feel So Bad', 'High Heel Sneakers', 'Crying In The Chapel' etc were remakes of earlier R&B hits, is the most successful white artist in the history of the R&B chart, which is now called Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
Twenty-one white artists rank among the top 500 R&B hit-makers in chart history in chart researcher Joel Whitburn's indispensable book Hot R&B Songs 1942-2010. The roster includes numerous blue-eyed soul singers (George Michael, Daryl Hall & John Oates), a rap icon (Eminem), disco stars (KC & the Sunshine Band), a pop provocateur (Madonna) and funk stars - but Elvis stands out above all. 1. Elvis Presley. The king of rock and roll had 24 top 10 R&B hits, from 1956's "Heartbreak Hotel" to 1963's " Devil In Disguise." Six of them, including "Hound Dog," reached #1. Blues singer Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton had a #1 R&B hit with "Hound Dog" in 1953.
2. Johnny Otis. Otis amassed 17 top 10 R&B hits, from 1948's "That's Your Last Boogie," a Joe Swift hit on which Otis and his orchestra were featured, to 1958's classic "Willie And The Hand Jive."
3. Teena Marie. Marie had seven top 10 R&B hits, from 1979's "I'm A Sucker For Your Love" to 1991's "If I Were A Bell'.
4 KC & the Sunshine Band. The disco group included both black and white members, but leader Harry Wayne Casey is white. They had 7 top 10 R&B hits, from 1975's "Get Down Tonight" to 1979's "Do You Wanna Go Party."
5. Eminem. The rap icon, a protégé of Dr. Dre, has had three top 10 R&B hits.

More RIAA Awards/Presentations On The Way: Great News for Elvis fans. Executives from Sony Music will emcee a free event at the Elvis Week Main Stage on Wednesday, August 15, as they present multiple awards for releases of Elvis' music that have achieved Gold, Platinum or Diamond status based on RIAA record sales.
EIN contributor Brian Quinn reports that he expects new GOLD Awards for 'An Afternoon In The Garden' and 'Christmas Duets' plus Platinum Presentations for Elvis' first two Albums 'Elvis Presley' and 'Elvis' and the Diamond Award for 'Elvis' Christmas Album' (1970 Version). There could be more.
Should bring Elvis' total RIAA album sales tally to at least 135.5 million.

Elvis Week 2012 Expected to Be Largest Ever: Elvis Week 2012 August 10-18 will be the largest ever says EPE. It features more than 25 events including concerts, a daylong music festival spotlighting young Memphis musicians, an art exhibition, movie screenings, panel discussions, autograph sessions, and sporting events.
As part of the celebration of the life and legacy of Elvis Presley surrounding the 35th anniversary of his passing EPE is sharing more details about the event that has become a pop-culture phenomenon and annual pilgrimage for music lovers from around the world.

The Candlelight Vigil will begin with the traditional opening ceremony on Wednesday, August 15, at 8:30 p.m. at Graceland’s front gate. Elvis music sets the tone of the evening as fans walk up the driveway to Meditation Garden. This free event lasts throughout the night as thousands of participants gather on Elvis Presley Blvd. listening to music, remembering Elvis and enjoying the memorials that are created by fans along the street.
Now confirmed the Elvis Week Opening Event will take place at AutoZone Park in downtown Memphis beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, with a street party hosted by the Memphis Redbirds. Elvis' hair sold for $4,160 at auction: A plastic vial containing clippings of Elvis Presley's hair has sold for $4,160 at an auction of celebrity memorabilia in Beverly Hills, California.
It is not the first time the King of Rock N' Roll's hair has been put up for auction. The newest collection of clippings was one of several pieces of celebrity memorabilia offered during Julien's Auctions which took place over the weekend.
The latest clippings of Presley's hair were collected by the late singer's personal hairdresser, Homer "Gil" Gilleland.
"As he worked with Elvis off and on up through the 1970s, Gilleland kept locks of Presley's hair, attaching them to business cards and ultimately giving large collections to friends," Julien's Auctions said in its listing. "There have been several large groupings of Elvis hair sold."
In 2009, a strand of hair Gilleland said he clipped from Presley's head sold at a British auction for about $1,560. A jar

containing more of Presley's hair sold for $115,000 in an online auction in 2002.
Also auctioned off at Julien's Auctions - a photo of an X-Ray of Presley's arm, taken after he suffered an injury during a karate session in Las Vegas, sold for $9,375. A pair of glass champagne coupes believed to have been used at Presley's 1967 wedding to Priscilla also fetched $312.50 at the auction. (See story below)
Not all items sold. An acoustic guitar signed by Presley, combined with a photograph of the singer performing at a 1976 concert in Syracuse, New York, fetched no bids. It was estimated to be worth at least $15,000.

Spanish Club Elvis Summer festival, this weekend: After the huge success of the first Spanish meeting from last year, Club Elvis Spain will return back to Zaragoza for the 2012 Edition of the CLUB ELVIS SUMMER FESTIVAL. We are celebrating our 21th Anniversary of the fanclub, and will bring to the Elvis fans and the members of the Club the best Spanish Tribute artists and spanish Elvis bands in a one big meeting, on Saturday June 30th.

35 Years ago Today Elvis bids "Adios" for the very last time: On June 26th 1977 Elvis walked on stage at Indianapolis for the very last time.
The Indianapolis Star newspaper review stated, "Elvis performs in true Presley style before 18,000"
Indianapolis once again prepared to great royalty-the hip-swivelling singer who has been called the King of rock 'n' roll since the Mid-1950s.
Elvis. His name was everywhere: on posters, buttons, souvenir books, T-shirts, hats, and homemade clothes that proclaimed with personal touches, admiration for a man idolized by millions.
Elvis appeared, in a gold and white jumpsuit and white boots, bounding onstage with energy that was a relief to everyone. At 42, Elvis is still carrying around some excess baggage on his mid-section, but it didn't stop him from giving a performance in true Presley style.
His opening number, the audience-grabbing 'C.C. Rider', got the show off to a flash-bulb-popping, hand-clapping start. His 'Amen', in which he encouraged everyone to lap and sing along, seemed to bring everyone together, as did 'Jailhouse Rock' and 'I got a Woman'.
His older numbers seemed to draw more applause, although just about everything he did created mass hysteria, especially his "leg jerks".
Elvis has limited his karate movements, but the stances he takes with his guitar generated screams and shrieks from delighted fans.
Elvis coveted scarves, tossed into the audience after gracing the singer's neck, caused mad scrambles by the stage as he got rid of them just about as fast as they were put around his neck. The fans were well-behaved, considering the usual ampedes that take place at rock concerts.
The packed Arena was indication enough that Elvis is still as popular as ever. Well, well, well, well!

EIN noted that, in this final concert Elvis would strangely leave out ‘My Way’ (and ‘Unchained Melody’) instead adding ’Fairytale’ "It’s kinda the story of our lives". He also added rare treats, a rather cool 'Release Me', plus a seemingly spontaneous audience request for 'I Can't Stop Loving You.' Elvis also sang a very rare and poignant 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' - a song that he only performed 3 times in 1977.
Elvis thanked the audience and despite any conspiracy theory Elvis did actually state "If you want us back just let us know, and we’ll come back!"
With that and a sweet ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ Elvis left the building for the very final time.

Elvis Presley Crypt Pulled From Auction after Fan Uproar: Thanks to everyone who signed the online petition that Elvis Matters started against the sale of Elvis' crypt at the Julien's auction. With the effort of Elvis fan clubs all over the world Elvis Matters gathered over 10,000 fans who signed the petition - and for now the crypt will remain empty - as it should!
The news made newspapers worldwide.... (see more below)
Julien's Auctions announced in May that it would sell the empty tomb at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, at its "Music Icons" auction last weekend. However Julien said that after seeing fan reaction, the company won't sell the crypt "until Forest Hills finds a plan that best suits the interests of the fans while respecting and preserving the memory of Elvis Presley."
Elvis Presley was interred there after he died on Aug 16, 1977. Two months later, Elvis and also Gladys his mother were reburied at his Graceland home. The original crypt has remained empty ever since.
Hopefully it will now stay that way.

Allyson Adams (Nick Adams daughter) Joins Elvis Week: Allyson Adams, daughter of actor Nick Adams, will share stories during the 2012 Official Elvis Insiders Conference from her father's new book that spotlights the time he spent with Elvis in 1956.
Elvis was filming his first movie in Hollywood, "Love Me Tender," when he introduced himself to Nick Adams, who was a struggling actor and part of the "Rebel Without A Cause" gang. Nick was infamous for writing about his famous friends and now Allyson Adams has published her fathers' posthumous, unedited manuscript, "The Rebel & The King." The new book is an inspirational portrait of a spiritual Elvis and describes Nick Adams’ whirlwind eight days in Memphis during the famous performer's Tupelo Homecoming in the summer of '56.

Juliens Auction Elvis Sold!: The "Music Icons" auction at Juliens Auctions last weekend got maximum attention due to the fact that Elvis' Crypt was removed from sale. However there where several other Elvis items that sold well.
1. Elvis' Motorcycle Jacket & Pants - US$41,600
An Elvis Presley owned ensemble consisting of a black leather motorcycle jacket and black Lansky Bros. tuxedo pants. The ensemble is accompanied by a typed letter from Vernon Presley to the Memphis Salvation Army written on TCB stationery dated December 19, 1976, stating that the clothing items are for the organization's fundraising efforts that year and thanking them for their good work. Signed by Vernon Presley. The Harley-Davidson brand leather jacket has an orange quilted lining, three zippered exterior pockets, zipper and belt closure. The black tuxedo pants have a label that reads "Styled for Elvis Presley,"

Elvis's Crypt Pulled From Auction Block: The online petition that ElvisMatters started against the sale of Elvis's crypt and the Letter of Protest that ElvisMatters member Fred Omvlee personally handed to the management of Forest Hill made auction house Julian's decide to pull the crypt from the auction block! What a success! They have just proven that fans can stand united! With the effort of ElvisMatters, the help of fan clubs all over the world and the support of over 10,000 fans who signed our petition, the crypt will remain empty - as it should!

New "Spiderman" felt like "Elvis": Andrew Garfield has replaced Tobey Maguire as the web-swinging super hero. However, Andrew revealed he was resigned to not getting the part after going up against Hollywood's hottest young talent - including Jamie Bell and Aaron Johnson - but ten minutes after being told he was successful he was paraded in front of the world's press, leaving him feeling like a superstar.
He said: ''I'd gotten the impression that it wasn't going to go my way. I was resigned to it. I went to see the producers having zero expectations. I imagined I'd be leaving there crying, wishing I'd chosen a different profession.''

Massive Elvis Ebay Auction: Greg Page (Yellow Wiggle) is selling a large part of his Elvis collection on Ebay. As EIN reported back in April 2011 Greg Page might have to sell his massive $4 million Elvis Collection due to losing substantial sums in the global financial crisis.
Page, who wore the yellow skivvy in the popular children's entertainment group reportedly had the fourth largest Elvis collection in the world and estimated to be worth $4 million.

'Worn to Be Wild' reunites the Harley Davidson motorcycle bought by a 21-year-old Elvis Presley in 1956 with the motorcycle jacket he bought a few years later from J.C. Penney."
According to the article, the exhibit traces the history of the biker jacket along with the "evolution of the garment from clothing to cultural shorthand." More than 50 jackets are on display, ranging from rare historical examples pulled from both the Harley-Davidson Archives and private collections to those worn by superstars of the stage and screen.

Mike Stoller Elvis Songwriter Featured in Wall Street Journal: Elvis Week special guest and legendary song-writer Mike Stoller was recently featured in the Wall Street Journal for his lengthy career of producing chart topping hits.
Stoller, along with his business partner, Jerry Leiber, were the men behind Elvis' hits "Hound Dog," “Loving You" and "Jailhouse Rock." The duo produced several more of Elvis' songs and continued their career with an expanding list of solo artists and groups.
"Leiber and Stoller's songs were more than just jukebox vinyl. In the '50s, their records helped transform R & B from segregated dance music to mainstream rock 'n' roll," says Wall Street Journal writer Marc Myers.
Stoller and Lieber's first smash-hit was "Hound Dog" performed by Elvis. Their music and lyrics opened the doors for his southern-blues sound and gave rock artists a new outlet to perform their non-conventional music. Linda Thompson slams book rumor: The infamous gossip tabloid, The Midnight Globe, recently published a story suggesting Linda Thompson was planning to publish her memoir, which would be less than flattering about her time as Elvis' partner. Linda was none too pleased about the article and published this response on her Facebook page:
Trashy tabloids that spew vitriol and libelous misinformation should not be allowed to discredit individuals who have always made an effort to "take the high road"! IF I write my memoir, it will be about my entire life. Elvis was indeed a big part of my life's journey. I have ALWAYS spoken lovingly and kindly toward his memory, and would never violate the inherent trust he placed in me during our time together! I have never capitalized on or exploited my intimate relationship with him! I have been blessed to have enjoyed great success in my life without ever having done so! It is absurd to suggest I would be interested in a "tell all" book! I have lived my life with dignity, discretion, and decorum. I plan to continue representing myself in that same fashion! The Rise of an Elvis Scion: The King was her grandpa. Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage were stepdads. Now, the 22-year-old is starting to shake, rattle and roll through Hollywood as she plays a stripper for Soderbergh in "Magic Mike."
She is Elvis's granddaughter and Michael Jackson's stepchild, Riley Keough has lived in an improbable celebrity vortex for all her 22 years. She's been asked every Elvis question and shyly confesses that the most annoying ones have to do with "people thinking I was alive when he was alive," since Keough was born 12 years after he died.
Regarding the eccentric Jackson, who married her mother, Lisa Marie, in 1994, Keough says she mainly knew him as the stepdad who went swimming with her, dropped her off at school and indulged her candy fixes at Neverland from the time she was 6 till she was 11. A few years after divorcing
Jackson, her mother wed Oscar-winning professional firebrand Nicolas Cage, which barely registered on the infamy scale with a teenaged Keough, long since inured to the tabloid gold mine that was her family.
Not a public train wreck by any means, the reserved, childlike actress, who is featured in Steven Soderbergh's Magic Mike, opening June 29, talks about her family's notoriety as if it all happened to someone else. "It felt normal because I didn't know any different," says Keough, sitting in West Hollywood's Cecconi's wearing a baggy white T-shirt and gray cardigan in mid-April.
"As I've gotten older, I'm like, 'Wow.' Honestly, I think it's because people draw it to my attention all the time. When they're like, 'Was that crazy?' I'm like, 'No, no, no,' to the point where now I'm just sort of like, 'Wasthat crazy?' "
Since she started modeling at age 14, Keough (who goes by middle name Riley instead of her first name, Danielle) has not overtly traded on that notoriety. (She politely declines to talk about her personal life, though during a photo shoot she un-self-consciously displayed a beautiful ring, an emerald surrounded by diamonds, symbolizing her engagement to fiance -- and Magic Mike co-star -- Alex Pettyfer.)
Three years ago, after walking the runway for Dolce & Gabbana and being the face of Christian Dior perfume, Keough left modeling behind and began fighting for roles in indie films such as The Runaways, in which she played sister to Dakota Fanning's Cherie Currie; The Good Doctor, opposite Orlando Bloom; and Jack and Diane, which premiered at this year's Tribeca Film Festival. Now she is enjoying a career step up to studio films with Magic Mike, a Warner Bros. look into the world of male strippers.
In Mike, which shot in St. Petersburg and Tampa, Fla., last fall, Keough plays Nora, a stripper who has a brief dalliance with Pettyfer's up-and-coming erotic dancer. "Her character is young and really wild, kind of like a siren who leads Alex's character down the rabbit hole," says Mike writer-producer Reid Carolin, who claims he wasn't aware of her legacy before she became a front-runner for the role. "Somebody said something like, 'Elvis Presley's granddaughter,' but honestly, I feel like I heard that after we saw her audition. But as you'd imagine for a Soderbergh movie, every big actor auditions for every tiny part. She put herself on tape and went straight to the top of the list."
About Keough's chemistry with Pettyfer, Carolin says, "I didn't notice something right away, but their characters were meant to be gradually drawn to one another, which is always interesting when that ends up taking on life offscreen." He adds, "They have different personalities and complement each other nicely -- she is much more laid-back. They're really good about keeping to themselves. I don't think it's one of those relationships for the press. I think they are genuinely into each other and genuinely love each other."
Not surprisingly, Pettyfer, 22, has only praise for his co-star. "Riley is one of the most talented people I've come across. Growing up, I watched Faye Dunaway, Jane Fonda, Tuesday Weld. They were truly classic movie stars. Riley, for me, is destined to be one of the greats."
Keough underwent a strip-club crawl to prep for the movie, as did much of the cast, which includesMatthew McConaughey and star-producer Channing Tatum (the movie is based on his life).
"It's odd, it's dirty, it's not somewhere I'd like to spend my time," she says of L.A.'s The Body Shop, Seventh Veil and Crazy Girls, where leering, drunken guys hit on her and her female friends. Keough found the male version -- the weekly "Hollywood Men" show at Highlands Nightclub in the Hollywood and Highland Center -- more entertaining.
"It's a totally different vibe," she says. "Women aren't threatening to men, so it's just this party. It's not hands-off, but it's not as dirty, and it's more fun. That's kind of what the movie captures." |

About her indie career before Magic Mike, Keough says, "To an extent I have to do what I get." She admits that like her peers, she competes for the high-profile roles Kristen Stewart, Lily Collins and Jennifer Lawrence have landed in Snow White and the Huntsman, Mirror Mirror and The Hunger Games. "It's definitely challenging," Keough says of her efforts to break in, as she enjoyed some misleading beginner's luck when she scored the Runaways role on her very first audition.
For the lead role of Jack in Jack and Diane, "a little story about two girls in love in New York" that Magnolia will release in the fall, Keough indicates "the characters seem more written. I find it more fun to do something with a little bit more to do." That "more to do" included cutting off her long blond hair and dying it black and repeatedly making out with co-star Juno Temple. Writer-director Bradley Rust Gray (The Exploding Girl) did the haircutting himself: "With Riley, you're not sure what you're going to get on each take."
Adds producer Jen Gatien, who hired Keough again for the as-yet-unreleased Kiss of the Damned, directed by Xan Cassavetes: "When Xan cast her as a fan of an actress, Riley made such distinct choices for who this character was. It suddenly occurred to me that she knew this sort of fanaticism and so she used it."
When she's not off shooting her other projects -- We Are What We Are, a movie that includes cannabalism, and Mad Max: Fury Road, co-starring Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy -- Keough lives in Calabasas with much of her current family, including her brother Ben, her mother and twin stepsisters from current stepdad Michael Lockwood (Lisa Marie's fourth husband).
That kind of full house is no different from the one she grew up in: "My mom had us sort of young," Keough says. "She was definitely a really great mother, but there were always people over at my house," especially musicians -- like her dad, Danny Keough, her brother, her mother and Lockwood. (Keough's youth also involved Scientology, as her parents were married in the church, a topic she politely dodges with, "If it would be OK, I'd rather not talk about religion or politics. It just feels too controversial.")
Keough may like classic rock because "it fits every mood," but she claims she has no musical aspirations.
While she considers a move to L.A.'s Westside, Keough is aware that her career trajectory, if successful, will put her squarely in the spotlight that up to now has mostly been about other family members. "It's one of those things where it's like, if you're going to do this job, your personal life is going to be everyone's business. I'm in a position where I've been really lucky, and I'm not going to act like that didn't have anything to do with it," Keough says. "So you can't be an asshole about it."
| Elvis tune reveals clues to Williams syndrome and the genes tied to emotions: Listening to certain songs, particularly some from The King, caused a spike in certain hormones. These findings may also influence treatments for autism and anxiety.
Even the toughest of hearts might melt at the sound of Elvis Presley crooning his classic song, “Love Me Tender.”
Now a new study shows that when people with the genetic disorder Williams syndrome listen to that song or others, they experience changes in levels of the hormones associated with feelings of love.
The findings provide clues about the genes that are tied to people's emotions, the researchers say. Researchers observed 21 people while they listened to music, and took blood samples to track levels of the hormones oxytocin and arginine vasopressin (AVP). The 13 participants with Williams syndrome — a genetic disorder that can bring developmental delays and mild mental retardation, along with an overly friendly and trusting personality — experienced a spike in both hormones when music played. |

Individuals without the condition saw little change to their oxytocin and AVP levels while listening.
One woman with Williams syndrome experienced significantly higher spikes in the hormones, compared with everyone else in the study; in the experiment, she listened to the Elvis tune.
The results could help researchers treat people who have this disorder and others that share some features with Williams syndrome, such as post-traumatic stress disorder and autism, said study researcher Julie Korenberg, of the University of Utah. The research provides insight to the relationship between genes and emotions, and links AVP levels to music for the first time, she said.
People with Williams syndrome have several genes missing from their seventh chromosome. They tend to be very friendly and have an affinity for music, but also are likely to have IQs as low as 60 and experience several health concerns, such as narrow blood vessels and high levels of calcium.
People with the condition often lack the ability to read social cues, despite their desire for friendship. Their disposition may be the result of high levels of oxytocin and AVP, according to the researchers.
At the start of the experiment, before any music was played, blood samples showed that people with Williams syndrome had three times the amount of oxytocin as people in the control group. Results from the hormone tests showed that the people with Williams syndrome experienced marked increases in hormone levels while listening to music.
The research "points to surprising, entirely unsuspected deleted genes involved in regulation of these hormones and human sociability,” Korenberg said.
"It also suggests that the simple characterization of oxytocin as ‘the love hormone’ may be an overreach. The data paint a far more complicated picture."
Understanding the relationship between genes, hormones and emotions will be key in treating Williams syndrome, but may also have implications for treating disorders such as autism and anxiety, the researchers said.

Riley Keough hated strip club research: Lisa Marie Presley’s actress daughter Riley Keough has vowed to steer clear of Los Angeles’ strip club circuit after learning they’re no place for girls who aren’t baring all while researching her role in “Magic Mike.”
The 22-year-old took a tour of infamous joints like the Seventh Veil and Crazy Girls as she prepared to play stripper Nora in the film, opposite fiance Alex Pettyfer, and admits she’s in no rush to go back.
She tells The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s odd; it’s dirty; it’s not somewhere I’d like to spend my time.”
But she enjoyed her trips to nude male revue bars, adding, “It’s a totally different vibe. Women aren’t threatening to men, so it’s just this party. … It’s not as dirty, and it’s more fun.” (News, Source: SFGate.com) |

| Analyst: Elvis Hologram Project Opens up New "Revenue Share" Growth Potential for Digital Domain: Digital Domain Media Group's deal to develop an Elvis Presley hologram will open up new growth opportunities for the visual effects company, an analyst said Friday.
"We believe this new project will change the growth potential for the new technology as we believe it will be established as a revenue share rather than a one-time payment," Janney Montgomery Scott's Tony Wible wrote in a report.
And he predicted that there would be more to come from the company. "We believe Digital Domain is also working on introducing other entertainment assets," he said without providing further details of his expectations. Asked by THR for his expectations, he said: "Elvis is first, and I think there are three to five [similar deals] in the works...We have speculated that we could see some rock legends." |

Overall, the new entertainment business opportunities show "how a core visual effects business can leverage its technology into new areas," said Wible, predicting that the company could also enter the military and medical simulation space.
Reiterating his "buy" rating on Digital Domain, Wible on Friday also raised his fair value estimate on the company's stock by $1 to $10 after raising some financial estimates based on a recent deal the firm struck with Abu Dhabi. It will open a studio in the emirate, which has announced a 30 percent tax incentive for production costs incurred in the country.
We believe studios will flock to this incentive, especially as the economic pressure in the rest of the world will likely curtail these incentives in many regional economies," Wible argued. "Digital Domain is ideally positioned to help studios monetize this benefit."

he is, got very romantic about his part, and I being the shy 19-year old I was at the time, I was really excited about singing the harmony with him. But with Elvis you never rehearsed really. You just started doing it. And then hopefully one of the takes would be good. So we just started doing it. I was trying to make up my part, and Elvis was getting more and more emotionally involved in the song. Let's put it that way. So several times he would kind of put his arms around me and draw me in, and I would duck under his arm and step off of the wooden box, and then get back up there in time to sing my lines. It was a little bit like a comedy, I think. But we did it, and it was OK."

'Another Saturday Night' FTD Review: Mid 1975 found Elvis back in good form and having fun on stage. Slimmed down and looking great in his new Indian Feather jump-suit Elvis seemed rejuvenated and happy to be back on stage.
As the Memphis Commercial Appeal commented … "It didn't seem to matter what Elvis sang, the audience went wild every time he moved and he made if clear he knew what was turning them on."
FTD has now released the Shreveport June 7th 1975 Evening Show - a previously UNISSUED performance, even on bootleg.
While the set-list may seem a little familiar, Elvis sure knows how to put on a crowd-pleasing show.

| 'Lonesome Summer Breeze' new Import CD: In August 1972, Elvis was a lean & mean rock & roll machine. He was still just as good as he was in 1970, but the experience that he had gained since then had made him into a mesmerizing performer. In every show that year you could see that he meant business, and like a starved predator he went straight for the jocular, taking no prisoners and knocking out audiences night after night. He was performing with a consistently high standard, and the Madison Square Garden shows show him at the apex of his performing abilities. The show on this disc was recorded roughly two months later, and the same high standard is obvious right from the get-go. This topnotch audience recording from the Straight Arrow label dates from Friday, August 25th, 1972 (Dinner show). Elvis could do no wrong in this period of time, and thankfully, someone was there to capture it all. This previously unreleased concert was taped by the same super-fan who recorded the concerts that were released on "LABOR DAY MADNESS" and "WATCHING DREAMS TURN INTO ASHES". |

As you have come to expect from us, the recording is of very good audio quality, sourced from a first-generation, 1981 cassette copy of the original mono tape. Small portions of the show were skillfully repaired using secondary source to make the recording complete. If you liked this label's previous 1972 releases - then brace yourself, because this is a keeper!

Elvis’ spirit keeps tourists coming to Graceland 30 years on: When Graceland opened to the public 30 years ago this month, nobody knew if it would be a success. Nearly 18 million visitors later, the house where Elvis Presley once lived is a money-making business that’s helped transform the city of Memphis into a top destination for music lovers.
But Priscilla says it’s the spirit of Elvis, and not just music history, that keeps the crowds coming to Graceland.
"Every time I go in there, I feel like Elvis is going to come down the stairs any minute," said Priscilla Presley in an interview about the landmark’s anniversary. "I have no doubt that he’s there, somewhere, his spirit. I think people feel that."
Elvis died on Aug. 16, 1977, and by the early 1980s, Graceland had become a burden on his estate, which faced high estate and inheritance taxes. Accountants and bankers wanted to sell the home, but Priscilla Presley thought that opening the house to tourists could solve the financial problems while keeping Elvis’ legacy alive.
Graceland opened for tours on June 7, 1982. "We had no idea whether 30 people were coming, or 300, or 3,000

that first day. Fortunately it was the latter." said Jack Soden, CEO of EPE who helped with the plan.
They sold out all 3,024 tickets on the first day and never looked back. Graceland’s success led to a worldwide merchandising and licensing business that keeps Elvis’ legend strong while generating $32 million a year in revenue. And the flow of tourists has remained steady, with an average of 500,000 annual visitors to the mansion and exhibit area across the street, according to Soden.
Visitors come all year, but they peak in August during the annual commemoration of Elvis’ death, which includes a candlelight vigil. Graceland expects to welcome its 18 millionth visitor this year.
Graceland’s popularity has also helped turn Memphis into a major music destination.
When Elvis died, Beale Street in downtown Memphis, which had been known for the blues since the early 1900s, was in disrepair and shunned by visitors, but today it’s a bustling attraction featuring blues-themed bars, shops and restaurants. Lewis, Carl Perkins and others, opened as a tourist attraction in 1985. The STAX studio, known for Otis Redding and others, has been reborn as a slick multimedia museum of the label’s distinctive Memphis soul sound. The idea of opening Graceland to the public came to Priscilla Presley after Elvis’ father Vernon died in 1979 and she was thrust into the role of managing the estate. "I realized as it was going on that there really wasn’t any money that could support Graceland or any of the people that worked for Elvis that were still there," she said. "I had a decision to make to somehow save Graceland."
By 1982, they were ready to open, with Priscilla Presley’s idea of keeping everything in the home the same as it was when Elvis was alive still intact.
Future plans include $50 million in improvements to Elvis Presley Boulevard and other infrastructure near Graceland.
"I’m blown away by the mere fact that it’s 30 years," Priscilla Presley said. "It’s been incredible to see that the legacy of Elvis is still going strong. We wouldn’t have imagined that when it was opened in 1982. Elvis is as popular now as he was then, if not even more."

'Essential Elvis' selling some 1007 copies. Total sales to date: 350,274 copies (minimum). The last Soundscan figure we have for this album at the end of 2010 was 348,357 copies sold. It is a double album and therefore under RIAA rules qualifies for double sales - so for their purposes it has sold 696,714 copies and already been awarded Gold status. However, it must be remembered we have no record of sales since the end of 2010 (until now) so the total should be considerably higher. One that could be in the frame for a Platinum Award in the not too distant future.

TIME names Elvis' Pompadour in "The 10 Most Iconic Hairstyles": TIME magazine has named Elvis' pompadour as one of "The 10 Most Iconic Hairstyles" in a recent look at the hairdos that inspired "envy and imitation" over the past century.
TIME writes, "As its name implies, the pompadour should be worn with confidence and panache, as the hair is swept high over the head with pronounced volume.
Elvis' rockabilly hairdo, along with his gyrating hips, captivated a nation and inspired countless imitations by young men hoping for that bad-boy look."
When describing someone sporting the Elvis look, the article says they are "looking to add a bit of swagger to their style."
The only other males to make the list are The Beatles' Mop Tops and Bob Marley's Dreadlocks

Elvis in Vegas released in Europe: Paul Lichter's Elvis in Vegas book has now been released in Europe. Collectors should note that the original cover for the outside-US edition was different and featured Elvis in the white/black Cisco Kid Suit. | Eliza Presley case back in court: The Probate Lawyer Blog reports: We've written extensively about the efforts by Eliza Presley to prove that she is half-sister to Elvis Presley and daughter to Vernon Presley, based on DNA and other evidence. Much of this same evidence also supports Eliza's claim that Elvis Presley is actually alive. You can get caught up to speed starting here, if you haven't followed this case before. It's been more than a year since we last wrote that Eliza's case was dismissed on jurisdictional grounds. This meant that the court in which she filed her lawsuit was not able to hear the case; rather, the case had to go to a different court. Because of this and other legal hurdles, Eliza has never had her "day in court" to present her evidence to a judge or jury. |

As we wrote then, Eliza was at the end of her road -- emotionally and financially -- and was not able to continue with the case. Trying to re-write the history books, which is what Eliza was literally trying to do, is no easy task. This is especially true when there are those who will go to extraordinary means to try to stop her.
Eliza has recently contacted us again and informed us that she has been able to restart the lawsuit, due in large part to previously undisclosed information her legal team received about Vernon Presley. But, she was forced to try a different legal approach this time. Unfortunately, Eliza is not able to disclose exactly where her case is proceeding or how. She said she is relieved that she can finally finish what she started. Eliza was able to share this redacted letter from her attorney that disclosed something quite interesting about her case:
A third court proceeding has been started ... Ms. Presley intends to re-file in Probate Court in Tennessee ... She believes strongly that she should be recognized as Vernon Elvis Presley's child, and that she should be allowed to claim her share of the four separate trusts he left as his "unknown heirs" due to her adoption at birth. Elvis phone home - "Holo-gram": This week's news that Elvis will be given the (so called) hologram treatment saw this unusual "Open letter from Elvis to the people of the Earth" published by the National Post:
Friends, I’ll admit that I had to look it up. Turns out that old Elvis might have come across one of these at Disneyland in between waffle sandwiches and root beer cones, but, heck, I’m not sure. Holo-gram. Now that I know what it is, I just have to say: Jesus, man. Sure, you might wanna use it to show kids how rockets fly or simulate the effects of sugar substitutes on the inner workings of the nervous system, but bringing back the dead? I tell you, friends, it’s what a Frenchman might call “uncouth,” although, you’re right: I had to look that word up, too.
OK. I know I’ve been away for awhile and you’re probably thinking: of all the crazy things that have gone on in this world, it’s a hologram that brought the old boy back? I know I have some explaining to do, and I’ll tell ya: You can hold Elvis to it. Don’t worry. None of ya’s are gonna leave here not knowing the very circumstances of the last — what is it?— 35 years? Jesus and Mary in heaven.
Thirty-five years. Can you imagine slipping away for so long? Can you imagine being at the very pinnacle of the entertainment universe and then, all of a sudden, surrounded by nothing more than a grove of coconuts, a wild pig here and there, two channels of television — repeats, all of ’em — and an overgrown volleyball court? |

Heaven: whatta scam. It’s always 74 degrees and they turn off the lights at 8:30. It’s a no-fun town, friends, and believe me, I’ve done my best trying to get the heck out. But every door leads to another door, which leads to another, and after awhile you just sit down and give up. A nurse brings you an ice cream and a pill and you dream of your highschool sweetie in bikini bottoms eating cotton candy. But that’s as far as it goes.
Anyone who ever thinks they’ve run into me renting bowling shoes in some podunk pinjoint or cleaning johns in the Peoria airport or, worse, appearing in the fold of a hickory tortilla in some slop shop down Key West Way, well, listen friends, I don’t like Mexican food that much. True, the Colonel and I, we figured a good way to treat a burger was to slather the mother in jalapenos and cheese but, really, that was the extent of it. Elvis knows when someone’s been stepping over the line, and you folks: you done did it. You went kinda crazy after I died. Believe me, I would have loved to have bowled the odd frame, laid down some nice common work. Heck, I woulda given my left chestnut to have come to within 16 miles of a halfway decent taco joint. But no. Who am I to rewrite that which has been stitched into the very fabric of human tapestry?
Before leaving, I mostly had a good life: happy, sad, zany, complicated, and all of those things that anyone with a pulse ever experienced. Growing up was simple, and, truth be told, it was probably the best part of it all. Elvis wun’t nothing but a good, old country boy who liked his blues and his hog jowls. I was affected just like every other Southern kid by those things I’d seen at the minstrel shows: Jumping Jimmy Jenkins and the Hotfoot Brothers and the stone cold stare of Howling Harold. Man, the way that cat would look at you; he coulda pulled Jesus off the nails. He was stricken, man, double bent over that guitar singing those songs about fast Lucy and the devil in a grey suit. Weird thing is, while nine out of 10 young’uns run away from that type of music, me, I felt something boil along my spine, like hot chitlins poured down my back. I remember Harold’s rheumy blue eyes, his crookedy hands and fingers, how he bit down on every word harder than a mongoose on a rattlesnake chaw. I swear he had fangs, but that’s probably just the age in me showing. I mean, he couldn’t have had ’em, could he?
First time I saw Harold, I was 12. Went with my daddy. He bought me a candied apple dusted with cinnamon and brown sugar. Daddy bid on a bull for the farm, but got shut out. Didn’t matter, though. I saw Harold, and then, years later, I was bringing home more bacon than any bull woulda provided, although I know that bacon comes from a pig; Elvis ain’t that out of it, friends. Anyhow, after Daddy saw his bull go the other way, he lost his liquor quicker and worse than Freddy Pompeii and so we had to sleep in the truck, where I laid on the flatbed, stared at the stars, and dreamed I wanted to be like Harold. Wanted people to remember me for my fangs. As opposed to dying on the toilet. Which, yup, I did. I’m not here to sugar-coat things, folks, for this is the truth and nothing but.
True, the Colonel got me young. I was 16 when I first recorded at Sun studios. Man, that was some day. I was decked out in the fanciest silver suit — swoosh! I was dressed to kill, if only for Tom, the studio engineer, Sam Phillips, the producer, and his secretary, a gal by the name of Cherry Margolis, who was grateful enough to take Elvis out back for a bit of whatfor after 17 hours of straight singing. Seventeen hours. I don’t want Elvis to come across like some geezer standing up here judging every little two-bit nosebleed who ever hummed a tune in public since, but 17 hours! The last time I was around, there was this fellow named Billy Jo-el. He was all the everything just before I left, and not to speak out of turn here, but I doubt that he ever sang that much.
Tom pressed the record, and the next thing you know — bam! — I was backstage at the Sullivan show. It was a hot night and, I believe, one of those nights where even the most misinformed brother on the planet — the pencil pusher with his button done up tight to his neck — well, even he was aware that something was circling in the air, like some sort of invisible bird that you couldn’t see, but could feel weighing above you. Mr. Sullivan was very courteous, but he told me, “Son, if you plan on shaking those hips of yours, we might be forced to pull away. We have a nice proper situation here in this country, and we don’t need you riling up the kids for no reason at all. The bosses upstairs have it directly from the White House.”
Of course, I didn’t want to disobey the president, let alone Mr. Sullivan, let alone the beautiful backstage scene with the Champagne on ice and the flowers and all the attendants a man shy of royalty would ever need to call on. No, I was filled to the brim with the pleasure of getting even a sniff of such high living, especially after coming up through the grit and dirt of Southern life, where most folks didn’t own a television, let alone appear on one of its programs. Still, once that swirly red cherrytop lit up on that big old camera, it was all Elvis could do to not push my way through the lens into the lap of the nation’s living room. Folks, I set off like a lit firecracker. Not that I have to sell it to you — I know you’ve all seen it; you study it in history class today, am I right? — but I was a shiver of electric shock on that cold, flat stage.
Not only that, but I hadn’t sung as good in my entire life. I took America by the throat and I done shook it. All of the rocks in its pockets came flying out and, after that, everybody loosened up. ’Course, a lot of other people got a whole lot uptighter, but you know what I mean. Rock ’n’ roll, as we know it, had arrived. And they’d only shown half of me. People talk about some of the things I done did later on in life, but how would you feel, friends, knowing that you’d done what you’d done with half your body showing? It would be like Picasso showing half a painting, Mozart composing half his symphony. But in the end, it’s what they didn’t show that got people juiced. The joke was on Mr. Sullivan and the potentates at the major networks, I suppose. After awhile, they were clamouring for more, but, of course, I fed them nothing. Elvis never answered to no man and don’t you forget it.
Now there’s this hologram business. They want to put me in a concert again and hologram me up the way they hologrammed that bare-chested fella who kind of looked like Howling Harold, only in blue jeans, undershirt and a pirate’s cap. What I want to say, folks, is this: I want to say no. The way I see it, what’s dead is dead. What’s gone is gone. And those of you who are gonna be selling tickets to watch some video ghost who looks likes me — who was me — dance around: well, shame on you. You can’t do that without asking a dead man, and I’m here to tell you that dead men don’t talk, no matter how grave the matter or hilarious the comedy or serious the predicament. Believe me, I’ve done my share of shouting and causing a ruckus from above. But all you people get is cold, hard rain at the wrong times and for that, friends, I apologize.
If you people of Earth wanna see me moving around again and doing the thing that set the country’s pants on fire, well, that’s why God invented the DVD (which he did; he told me when we were playing volleyball last month). Better yet, go find some tape from that appearance on the Sullivan show. I was crazy the way Harold was, only maybe a little better looking, which is not my way of seeming boastful, it’s just the facts. No hologram will ever capture that, and besides, the whole thing seems creepy to me and looks bad on you. If you wanna spend your money and your days watching Hologram Elvis instead of looking for the New Elvis or the Next Elvis — and believe me, folks, he is out there; he might even be a she; who knows? — then let me tell you: you’re doing no better than me playing volleyball against God, and really, folks, you can’t win for losing; that’s just the way it is. Instead, why not take the wife bowling; why not go outside and, heck, fetch some fine red hot tortillas? Next to building a hologram to raise the dead, it might not seem like much. 'Elvis By Request' Australia's "Best Of" CD outsmarts 'I Am An Elvis Fan'!: EIN has now had confirmed that the Australian 'Best Of' collection will be a 40 track double CD compilation which has (possibly!) been in the planning stage before the 'I Am An Elvis Fan' international version!
Australians will also be able to select their favourites to be included on the 40 track set from every Elvis Master.
This is also going to be promoted via the 'Golden Oldies' type radio stations and with TV promotion as well. Thus hitting, and making a mark, on the 'General Public' rather that the EPE subscribed Elvis fan.
The concept is to wake up the "General Public" to Elvis’ on going popularity as the 35th Anniversary approaches.
The voting promotion is from June 4 until Friday July 13.

Elvis Presley Hologram More News: It has now been confirmed that the makers of a Tupac hologram that debuted at Coachella in April 2012 will create an Elvis hologram next. Digital Domain Media Group has signed an agreement with CORE Media Group, the parent company of EPE to develop and produce a series of "virtual" Elvis Presley likenesses for projects including appearances in shows and film and TV productions. "This is a new and exciting way to bring the magic and music of Elvis Presley to life. His lifelong fans will be thrilled all over again and new audiences will discover the electric experience of Elvis the performer," EPE's Jack Soden noted.

The companies have already begun work on the Presley likenesses, but no announcement has been made yet about when and where audiences can see the first virtual performances.

The realistic likeness of Shakur reuniting with rapper Snoop Dogg at Coachella was created by Digital Domain "based on techniques developed for the Academy Award-winning CG likeness of Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and more," according to Digital Domain's website.

'VIVA ELVIS' Star DVD Review: Now that we know 'VIVA ELVIS' is to close, the timing is perfect for STAR to release their specially edited version of the show's recut classic Elvis songs. Described as .. for ELVIS FANS, Cirque Du Soleil Fans and Non Cirque Du Soleil Fans - one thing's for sure… after watching it… the album itself can't be played without seeing the sensational footage created on this dvd. It has nothing to do with Cirque Du Soleil, but if you did see the show in Vegas, it will bring back some memories as some footage is linked to it.
The STAR DVD label in the past have created some of the best-edited and impressive Elvis videos of all-time. Their '1st, 2nd & Forever' is worth watching again and again.

Another fact to consider is that Elvis spent well over twice as many weeks on the UK singles chart than The Beatles.
Artist with Most Weeks at Number 1 - Elvis Presley who topped the chart for a total of 80 weeks (as of w/e 5th Feb 2005). Top group is The Beatles (69 weeks). Top female performer is Madonna (29 weeks - as of w/e 17th May 2008).
Elvis also has 'The Most Top 10 Hits' with 76 as of May 2005. Cliff Richard follows with 67.
While newcomer Rihanna’s figures are impressive they are pretty much all downloads which as a 'Single' today costs far less than an 45RPM was for teenagers in the 50s & 60s.

‘Pure Gold For Your CD Collection’ New Import CD: Pure Gold was a 1975 compilation album released as part of RCA's budget "Pure Gold" series of albums. Though at this point in his career Presley was focused more on the country music market, this compilation focuses more on earlier material than his 1970's hits.
"Kentucky Rain", "Fever", "It's Impossible", and "In The Ghetto" are true stereo mixes. All other tracks are in "electronically reprocessed" stereo. When this album was eventually issued on CD for the first in the early 1990s, the 6 songs from the 50's were restored to original monaural sound. The album wasn't a strong seller when it was first released in 1975.
It was certified Gold on 9/12/1977, Platinum on 3/20/1988 and 2x Platinum on 3/27/1992 by the R.I.A.A.

CKx plan New Elvis Presley Projects: American Idol owners CKx are considering new Elvis Presley projects including a Graceland upgrade, Elvis duets album and possible hologram tour. The company that owns the rights to American Idol is restructuring the TV show in light of the recent ratings drop but also developing projects for its other assets, including the creative exploitation of Elvis Presley and Muhammad Ali.
CKx, which will change its name to Core Media Group, has especially big plans in store for Presley: an upgrade of the Graceland museum is in the works, as well as a possible Elvis drama series based on the singer's early life. Core is also in talks with Sony about a potential duets album, which would pair contemporary singers with Presley in much the same way that past duets albums have done with Frank Sinatra. A subsequent tour may see singers performing alongside an Elvis hologram.
Core is also planning a revamp of Idol, which comes on the tail of the show's 30% ratings decline in its 11th season this year.

"Elvis Experience” Coming to Brazil: Tickets are selling fast for the first-of-its-kind exhibition outside the United States called the Elvis Experience.
This will be the first time that an exhibition of such size will be mounted outside the United States. The Elvis Experience will feature over 500 rare and personal items such as tools, documents and photos - most of which have never been seen outside of Graceland.
The new exhibition will open on September 5, 2012 in Sao Paulo at the Shopping Eldorado Mall. Elvis Presley in Concert will also be on tour in South America during the same time this exciting exhibition launches in Sao Paulo.

'Follow That Dream' 50th Anniversary Spotlight: Follow That Dream was Elvis’ 9th movie and although filmed after ‘Blue Hawaii’ the Elvis "travelogue formula" still hadn’t been established. ‘Follow That Dream’ was still a fresh chance for Elvis to try out his relaxed comedic style of acting and without the added pressure of too many soundtrack songs. Filmed almost entirely on location in Florida it is one of Elvis’ best films. It was released 50 years ago this week on May 23rd 1962.
A great number of Elvis fans share an appreciation for this particular movie even though that appreciation is virtually absent from all critical texts. There are two reasons for this continued level of likeability. One of course is that Follow That Dream is a pretty good movie. The second, less obvious reason, is the fact that it says something good about human nature and that observation makes you feel a little bit better about living.

Tupelo ELVIS Festival This Weekend: For the first time in the history of this festival, three of the past five National Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artists will perform at the Lyric Theatre. Featured artists include Bill Cherry, the 2009 Ultimate ETA, Brandon Bennett, D.J. Fontana, Sonny Burgess and the Pacers and the reigning 2011 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Cody Slaughter at the 2012 Elvis Festival this weekend May 31-June 3.
The "Elvis Tribute Artists" however are in fact just one part of the festival, which also features a variety of local, regional and national musical acts including the headliner at Fairpark, "Little Big Town."
Debbie Brangenberg with the Tupelo Elvis Festival said, "We try to do some music that influenced his musical style. We've asked our entertainers if they would do an Elvis song while they're here. So, everybody's excited about that."
Meantime, there are other activities during the four day festival from a carnival for the kids to a pet parade you might say is fit for a "King." Each activity or event at this year's festival, just like in previous years, will have an element of Elvis to it. |

12 Original Madison Square Garden slides on EBay!: On June 11th 1972 Elvis played for the final time at Madison Square Garden in New York. He gave a masterful performance to a 20,000 strong audience. Elvis was at the top of his field at this time in his life. Even though he was going through personal turmoil, he was a consummate artist taking a back seat to nobody in the music field.
I have for auction 12 (35mm) slides taken on that day. This is one of the rarest shows from Madison Square Garden to find photos from. These are original slides from the original owner and photographer. The film was developed on June 12th 1972, the day after the concert. This is a wonderful opportunity to own a piece of Elvis history. The 12 original slides have been carefully stored for 40 years and now with the 40th Anniversary of Elvis' Madison Square Garden appearances approaching; I feel it is a good time to let another fan/collector enjoy them.

Elvis Presley crypt to be sold in Memorabilia auction!: The private mausoleum crypt in Memphis, Tennessee in which Elvis Presley was first buried is to be sold at auction.
The lot includes the crypt itself, the right to open and close the vault for a burial, a memorial inscription and the use of a small chapel for a service.
The person who will be able to buy the opportunity will be laid to rest in the private crypt after his or her death, where the singer was originally placed after his death in 1977.
In an unbelievably tacky statement Darren Julien, who is conducting the auction, said "I just consider that if you're an ultimate fan of Elvis Presley, it's an opportunity. It's definitely a conversation piece. Only one person can say, 'Hey, I'm going to be buried where Elvis Presley was'," he said.
Following Presley's funeral at his Graceland home in August 1977, his body was temporarily entombed in a crypt at Forest Hill Cemetery. Around 80,000 people lined the processional route that Presley's coffin took from Graceland to Forest Hill.
Within two months, both his body and that of his mother Gladys were moved to a permanent site in the meditation garden on the Graceland grounds.
Presley's body was at the tomb at Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, for around two months before it was transferred to be re-laid at his home in Graceland.

'The Elvis Mag' #77: Out Now is the 'Essential Elvis' new May/June magazine #77. It features a detailed article on Elvis' Circle G Ranch and the operation to save it for Elvis fans. The Stamps Bill Baize (far right) gives a lengthy interview on his times spent with Elvis, plus the continuing look at composer Randy Starr's (rather unspectacular!) work and the usual reviews and news.
It is worth noting today that The Elvis Mag previous issue #76 featured a lengthy article about 'The Forest Hill Cemetery' where the administrator of the cemetery stated "This is a very special place and I personally consider a sale to be extremely unlikely. This place of pilgrimage is an asset to our cemetery"!

'The Wedding' EIN Spotlight: Whatever people's own personal feelings are toward Priscilla, Elvis clearly loved her. We can debate whether he was ‘pushed’ in to marriage by outside forces or whether Elvis who belonged to the women of the world should have married at all, but the fact is that Elvis did marry Priscilla 45 years ago. May 1st 1967 was no ordinary day in Elvis' life.
There were however some odd choices to the day and the ‘last minute’ exclusion of some of those who grew-up with Elvis was a particularly bad and hurtful.
Marty Lacker was Elvis' co-Best Man at the wedding and he has kindly given EIN permission to publish his story of what happened on that famous day.

Comeback producer Robert Finkel has died: Emmy Award-winning TV director and 1968 'Elvis Comeback Special' executive producer Robert Finkel has died. He was 94.
Publicist Dale Olson said Friday that Finkel died April 30 of age-related complications at his home in Beverly Hills.
In his long career, Finkel produced TV series with Andy Williams, Jerry Lewis, Phyllis Diller and other stars. Finkel won a Peabody Award for a show with Julie Andrews and directed sitcoms including "Barney Miller" and "The Bob Newhart Show."
It was Bob Finkel who hired Steve Binder as the director/producer of the Comeback Special. (Photo right, Steve Binder, Elvis, Bob Finkel at the press conference)
Finkel also produced specials with Bing Crosby John Denver, among others.
A Pittsburgh, Pa., native, Finkel is survived by family members including his daughter, Terry.

Marty replied.. That surprises me because Bobby and I were friends and he never talked that way before. He recorded at American and would show up every once in awhile because he lived in L.A. He did play on some early sessions at American Studios but I do not remember Bobby playing on Suspicious Minds or any of Elvis' songs.. Somehow or another I think whatever they took out of his head has messed him up and made him bitter. I have not seen him in years. - Marty Lacker. |
Bobby Womack thinks Elvis "stole" his entire career! The soul music legend Bobby Womack said this week that he played on Elvis' track 'Suspicious Minds', but wasn't impressed by the star.
After a recent cancer scare the UK tabloids report that Womack said: "People say: 'What did you think of Elvis Presley?' I say: 'He wasn't s**t. Everything he got he stole.'"
Bobby also wrote one of The Rolling Stones first ever hits, 'The Last Time', and worked with the band on their 1986 album 'Dirty Work'. While he got on with some members of the band, he "had a problem" with singer Sir Mick Jagger.
Speaking about 'The Last Time', he added: "To be honest with you, I said: 'Let the Rolling Stones get their own f***ing record and record that."
Speaking of Mick, he added: "Some people never grow up if you give 'em too much. They gonna be as*holes, then they just become a bigger as*hole." |

EIN notes that recently Womack has had a tumour removed and perhaps this is causing him to be nasty to other performers and previous friends.
His statements can be considered as rubbish since there is no proof in the studio session logs that he ever played on the 'Suspicious Minds' session at all. Maybe this is all a tabloid news beat-up?

Four New June FTD Releases: The following FOUR releases have been announced by FTD for late June.
'G.I. Blues Vol.1' Classic Album – The long-awaited first volume of G.I. BLUES material in the classic album series. As always in a 7" inch digi pack format with booklet. However like the ‘Jailhouse Rock Classic album’ the first volume will be without the In-and-Outtakes section, which will be featured in Volume 2 and will summarize all the G.I. Blues recordings. A lot of effort (and money) has gone into making these the best sounding G.I. Blues recordings ever.
‘From Hawaii To Las Vegas’ (Unreleased 1973 Rehearsal)- The new 5" digi pack release ‘From Hawaii To Las Vegas’ is from a previously unreleased cassette recording of Elvis’ January 25 1973 dress rehearsal for his January/February Las Vegas Hilton season. The rough audio quality is more than compensated by the fascinating insight into how Elvis worked in order |

to create his shows. With little talk, and a lot of music, we are invited to a first row presentation of what Elvis had in mind, and yet he decided to change the repertoire the next day. Among the many songs is "Separate Ways" – rehearsed with and without the orchestra - a song that Elvis chose to never perform in public. This will be a fabulous collectors’ release.
The one track ‘I'm Leavin' It All Up To You’ was previously released on the FTD ‘Stage Rehearsal’ and was one of the best tracks on that compilation. The audio quality was pretty good as we noted in our review "Elvis tries it out in rehearsal and it’s another spontaneous Elvis moment, luckily captured in pretty good sound – the best quality bonus track here."
