Graceland for sale?: Sid Shaw's latest Elvis cyberalert suggests rumors are again circulating that Graceland and EPE are for sale, with a reported asking price of US$350 million. The rationale for selling Graceland and the EPE franchise would be concerns that older fans won't be around much longer and receipts are likely to diminish in future years. With fan numbers much less than
anticipated at this years "50th Anniversary of That's All Right/Birth of Rock & Roll" Elvis Week some alarm bells may be ringing. Apart from a potential big 3oth anniversary Elvis Week in 2007 EPE may continue to experience slim pickings at other times. (Elvis News, Source: Sid Shaw)

Kismet summons Presley music entourage and fans alike to historical new music project! (Yes it’s true! Some may call it Kismet: Although we can’t bring Elvis back, we can - and we have - brought the magic of Elvis’ music back! Elvis' life and spirit lives on in the synergy of this new music. Welcome to Elvis’ world: “Miracles, I guess, still happen now and then.” And somehow, fans, this is our “miracle”. The legacy continues..... Richard Davis dies: Elvis' valet manager, movie stand-in, and member of the Memphis Mafia, died on Wednesday night in his sleep, apparently from a heart attack. Richard, who played a lot of touch football with Elvis, joined E's entourage in 1962 and worked for E for 7 years. Elvis bought him a white Cadillac convertible. He was eventually fired by Vernon Presley in a cost-cutting move. Following Elvis' death, Richard faced a few years of very hard times. He worked part-time at George Klein's gigs. After the casinos opened in nearby Tunica, MS, Richard righted his Life and found employment at one of them in the security department, eventually becoming a supervisor at one of the casinos. At some of GK's gigs, he would tell stories, but it was always the same two stories -- (1) of how Elvis threw flash bulbs into his swimming pool, then shot them all, causing the debris to sink to the bottom of the pool and being hell to clean out; and (2) how he had once hidden in the rafters at a movie studio and dropped water-filled balloons on the Mafia below. Richard Davis, overall, was a very nice guy. He seemed to be enjoying to the fullest the re-birth of his Life. So sad it had to end at this stage. (Elvis News, Source: Bill Burk)

Ed Bonja talks to EIN about Al Dvorin, who sadly died this week. Al Dvorin was one of the kindest & friendliest people nicest ever to work for Elvis and was there right at the start. Our thoughts go out to Al Dvorin’s family, to his close friends and especially to Ed Bonja. Al Dvorin will be sorely missed by everybody. EIN interviewed Elvis photgrapher Ed Bonja about life with Elvis, just 2 weeks ago. Ed Bonja was nephew to Tom Diskin, Colonel Parker's right-hand man. Ed knew Colonel Parker from when he was a child, even calling him "Uncle Colonel"! Al Dvorin was one of Ed Bonja's best friends and in part of the interview Ed talks about his friendship with Al. Here is the excerpt. (Elvis News, Source: Ed Bonja)

Fans not happy at EPE's decision to charge for its "elvis.com" email service: after several years of providing fans with a free elvis.com email service, EPE has moved to the full-service company, Aristotle, and has introduced a charge of US$21.00 or $2.00 a month. It is obvious from discussions on the various Elvis messageboards and messages circulating in Elvis email groups that many fans are far from happy about this change. The Artist Collection: BMG offices worldwide will be releasing a new mid-price series in October. Called 'The Artist Collection', there will be 16 titles including one for Elvis (12 tracks). The covers for the series will stun fans as they have been designed by one of the world's leading alternative artists. The Elvis cover has The King's image composed by using a piece of cheese with alfoil for his mouth, pieces of leather fixed by a rivet punch for his eyebrows and star studs around his neck! Other artists in the series include Dolly Parton, Santana, Hall & Oates, Kenny G., Kylie Minogue and Eric Clapton. Several of the titles will be combination DVD/CD releases, but the Elvis one is CD only. BMG is developing a marketing strategy to promote the series. We will have the artwork for the Elvis release shortly. (Elvis News, Source: BMG)

EPE flexes its muscles (again) over Elvis web site shop: EPE lawyers (Glankler Brown) have written to Jordan Ritchie telling him his Elvis World Shop (logo) "was willfully hurting and unlawfully making funds from Elvis' name". The letter was postmarked 16 August. As a result of the letter, Jordan has had little option but to remove his shop from his site, all profits of which went to charity. This is not the first time EPE has instructed its lawyers to pressure changes on web sites. EIN received a letter in the late 1990s. It will be interesting to see if other sites with Elvis Shops are similarly pressured. (Elvis News, Source: Jordan Ritchie/Elvis Collectors Messageboard)

Elvis' ghost summoned in seance: the ghost of ELVIS PRESLEY was summoned in a Las Vegas seance to mark the 27th anniversary of his death. Illusionist and escape artist DIXIE DOOLEY invited members of the public to witness him attempt to contact the King, who died at his Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee after suffering drug abuse and heart problems. Dooley held the seance at the Nevada gambling capital's Greek Isles Hotel And Casino, as it was once owned by one of Presley's friends, Debbie Reynolds. Dooley hoped to contact Presley's spirit at 2.01pm (-7GMT) because 2, 0 and 1 were the late rocker's favourite numbers and he was an avid believer in numerology. (Elvis News, Source: contactmusic.com) - EIN note: anyone present at the seance, please let us know how Elvis is.

Viva Las Vegas DVD: a 'budget' priced release will be issued in England on 30 August with an RRP under 10 pounds. The film grossed around $4m in the US alone and regularly rates in the top 5 Elvis films in polls of critics and fans. With fun story, pleasing songs and sexual chemistry, this is one film that couldn't miss. (Elvis News, Source: Sendit.com/EIN)

Fans want Elvis drummer in hall: Elvis Week 2004 would be a good time to fix a glaring oversight from Elvis history: D.J. Fontana, his first drummer, is not a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Since the hall has a "Sidemen" category, there's no reason he shouldn't be - a point recently made in a letter to the hall signed by drummers Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones, Ringo Starr of the Beatles, Levon Helm of the Band and Max Weinberg of the E Street Band. "To me, it's an embarrassment D.J. isn't in there," says Weinberg. "He was a major influence on so many drummers who followed. "It's not just that he and Scotty Moore are the last living guys who rode in that car with Elvis. D.J. was the link between big band jazz and rock 'n' roll." Dominic Joseph Fontana, 75, doesn't claim anything that sweeping, although his footprints are all over the rock 'n' roll trail. "A lot of (the) country audience then didn't want drums," says Fontana, who often played behind the curtain. "Some artists didn't want them, either." But Elvis was different: "He wanted drums. He liked a lot of noise, bangin' and bashin'." (Elvis News, Source: The New York Daily News)

D.J. Fontana live in England: and while we're speaking of D.J., he will be a guest act during the Eddie Cochran Rock 'n' Roll Weekend in Chippenham (September 24-26). Other artists are Dave Edmunds, Little Richard and Marty Wilde, to name just a few. (Elvis News, Source: alt.elvis.king messageboard)

Israel's Elvis Inn welcomes Arabs, Jews: The Elvis Inn, a truck stop diner on the outskirts of a small Israeli town, is famous for uniting Jews and Arabs for a meal and to hear the King's music. Elvis - A 50th Anniversary Celebration (DVD): should now be available in Australian record stores. On July 5th, 1954, Elvis stepped into tiny Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee and changed the world forever by recording the rockabilly standard "That's Alright, Mama." This DVD is a rare tribute with stars such as Tom Jones, Pat Boone, Neil Sedaka, Kenny Rogers, ZZ Top, Suzi Quatro, Julio Iglesias, Cliff Richard, Buddy Holly's Crickets and many more reflecting on Elvis' extraordinary talent and enduring popularity after half a century. Plus you'll see rare, color footage of Elvis performing onstage and hear the historic first recording session at Sun Studios from the people who were there! (Elvis News, Source: Ezy DVD)
