DVD 'Sold Out Vol. 10': The publicity states... 'Sold Out volume 10' is something special… Ever since the inception of Pyramid, we’ve been inundated with requests to release a volume focusing on the final year. We all know that the last year was difficult for Elvis. And for those of us who love the man and his music, it’s still hard to see footage from some of those shows. But there were also those nights where he could pull it together and blow everybody away with the power and might of his voice: performances like “How Great Thou Art”, “Fairytale” and “Hurt” are a testament to that fact. “Sold Out volume 10” has plenty of those moments. And some truly great close-ups of the man giving his all on stage.
One of the advantages of footage from the final year is that it’s often more complete, and indeed one of the shows on this release even clocks in at over 54 minutes. And there are various cool concert rarities including “Funny How Time Slips Away” as the third song in the show, a solid “Until It’s Time For You To You”, a neat “Steamroller Blues”, a back-to-the-basics “That’s All Right Mama”, and more. There’s also plenty of light moments where he is in a playful mood, teasing Charlie and J.D., hiding behind Jerry, etc.
We’ve once again included several fascinating behind-the-scenes films, of Elvis in his penguin outfit, the band & singers arriving at a venue, fans waiting in line, shots of the Lisa Marie at night, etc.

Graceland announces Holiday Season plans: EPE have announced their Winter Holiday Season plans.
Activities include the Traditional Christmas Lighting Ceremony, Special Tours and Holiday Themed Concerts by the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Ultimate ETA Dean Z, and other holiday shows at the Soundstage including The Beach Boys.
This holiday season at Graceland will be filled with more festive events than ever to celebrate one of Elvis' favorite times of the year.
Festivities include.
- Graceland’s Holiday Lighting Weekend November 18-20. The weekend kicks off with the annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony, which will feature internationally renowned songwriter and producer David Porter, along with students from the Stax Music Academy, “flipping the switch” to light Elvis’ iconic Graceland Mansion |

for the holiday season. Round out the weekend with Dean Z’s Rockin’ Christmas Show on Saturday, Nov 20.
- Special afternoon Christmas Tours (December 1-20) featuring live tour guides sharing holiday stories throughout Graceland Mansion. The tours allow guests to explore Graceland decorated for the holidays after-hours, hear stories of what it was like to spend Christmas with the king at Graceland and tour the grounds to see the beautiful lights and up-close looks at the festive lawn decor that was part of Elvis' annual decorating tradition. Each tour is limited to eight guests with an expert guide and will include a holiday photo ops both inside and outside Graceland Mansion. |
There will be a 'Graceland Virtual Tour: Christmas Edition' on December 20 for those that can't make it to Memphis. COSTS US$98.50 ! Angie Marchese, Vice President of the Graceland Archives and Exhibits, will be leading a behind the ropes look at Graceland decorated for Elvis’ favorite holiday. Angie will share stories of how Elvis spent the holidays around the mansion and show the holiday décor he handpicked and left up all the way through his birthday on January 8.
Graceland will be decorated for the holidays from November 18 through January 9, 2022. Visitors during this time will be able to enjoy Elvis' holiday decorating traditions throughout the grounds of his home, Graceland Mansion. Outside, are the traditional lights including hundreds of blue Christmas lights lining the driveway, a life-size nativity scene, Elvis’ Santa and his sleigh lawn decorations, and more. The interior of Graceland is beautifully decorated with Christmas décor that includes his traditional red velvet drapes, Christmas trees throughout, and Presley family Christmas artifacts on display.

Exhibition 'Elvis: Direct from Graceland' for Victoria, Australia: The Australian southern state of Victoria has scored and unprecedented Elvis Presley exhibition for early 2022.
This major new biographical exhibition exploring one of the most iconic and influential figures of the 20th Century. Elvis: Direct from Graceland, will open on 19 March 2022 at Bendigo Art Gallery.
Exclusive to Bendigo, VIC, the exhibition will explore Elvis’ stellar career, his larger-than-life persona, lesser-known aspects of his early years, interests and personal life, and his radical sense of style.
In a major coup the Gallery has been able to secure unprecedented access to the Graceland archives to present a comprehensive exhibition on the world’s greatest and most popular artists.
Elvis: Direct from Graceland will feature around 300 authentic artifacts owned by Elvis direct from the icon’s Graceland home - including his military uniforms, his 1976 Red Bicentennial Custom Harley Davidson, and an amazing array of his famous jumpsuits to personal items like Lisa Marie’s baby clothes, Elvis’ first job application and the 1st grade crayon box he took to school. Visiting Australia for the first time ever is a bright red convertible 1960 MG from the movie Blue Hawaii, the only car from his films that Elvis actually owned and had brought to the Hawaii location to get around in his free time.

The exhibition will also feature many items that rarely travel beyond the Graceland gates, including Elvis’ wedding tuxedo and Priscilla’s wedding dress, two costumes from the acclaimed television performance known as the ‘68 Comeback Special, and garments from his eclectic home wardrobe.
Graceland's Angie Marchese stated, "While Elvis was never able to visit Australia himself, it brings us great pride at Graceland to know that his legacy and music lives on there. We look forward to sharing a glimpse into Elvis’ life with the fans in Australia.”
Key periods in Elvis’ life and career will be covered, including his early years living in the ‘shotgun shack’ in Tupelo, Mississippi, his break-out Sun Studios hit, U.S. Army service, his time in Hollywood, his unforgettable ’68 Special performance, and the glamorous Vegas years.
The exhibition also moves beyond the familiar story of his musical and acting career to present his more private side, his devotion to his parents, his love of books, motorcycles, horses and karate and the haven he created in Graceland for his friends and family.

Priscilla pays tribute to Ronnie Tutt: Priscilla Presley also recently paid tribute to drummer Ronnie Tutt, who died on October 16.
Ronnie Tutt was a longtime member of Elvis' TCB Band, which backed the King of Rock and Roll during the last decade of his life. Tutt, a prolific studio drummer who also performed with Billy Joel and Neil Diamond, was 83.
Priscilla posted on Instagram, "Rest In Peace my friend. Your sweet soul and great talent captured us all.
Elvis always bragged how you intuitively could keep up with his stage moves. Even when he tried to trick you...
My heart goes out to you Donna for your loss.
And to the TCB band members, James and Glenn.
You will be forever missed."
She included a recent photo she took with Tutt.
Tutt's wife Donna confirmed that he had died of natural causes at his home in Franklin, Tennessee, surrounded by his family.
He chose not to be hospitalized, as he knew doctors could do nothing more for his heart condition.
Donna said that "his body had had enough, he couldn't play another drum lick...."

Brandi Carlile’s Gale-Force Debut on SNL invokes Elvis: For her first-ever performance on Saturday Night Live, country singer Brandi Carlile launched right into her defiant heartland jam, “Broken Horses,” wearing a gleaming Elvis-inspired gold lamé suit.
But for all the glam, the energy of the music was straight barroom rock and roll. Carlile wielded her burnished guitar like she was steering a colt, her streaky brown hair hanging loosely around her face.
Carlile has previously acknowledged that Elvis was part of the inspiration for her 2018 album 'By the Way, I Forgive You' .. "listening to Elvis' music and understanding the emotion and intensity Elvis put into his recordings".
Carlile returned to the stage to perform her swelling country-rock drama, “Right on Time,” the lead single from her stunning new album, In These Silent Days.
This time, Carlile wore a glittering black-and-white suit, appearing alone on a darkened stage, playing the opening verse on piano. The crowd gasped as she turned to the camera and sang the end of the verse in chilling a cappella.
Then, Carlile picked up her guitar and rejoined the rest of her band at the front of the stage, bringing the song about two embattled lovers to its soul-melting crescendo.

Elvis' Las Vegas Record set to be broken: Barry Manilow, now aged 78, is set to break a long running Las Vegas record set by Elvis Presley.
Of all the performers still working it was always likely that Manilow might be the artist to conquer Vegas.
From the time he hit the airwaves with “Mandy” through “Copacabana” and “I Write the Songs” up to the Central Park rain drenched “Welcome Back New York” concert, his fans adore him.
Manilow is returning to Vegas October 14th with a bunch of shows, then more in 2022 and 2023.
All the shows are at the legendary Westgate Las Vegas Resort (formerly International / Vegas Hilton).
Manilow stated, “I love it there. Westgate Las Vegas is my home away from home and I look forward to performing there for a long, long time.”
Elvis basically lived at the International / Hilton after it opened in 1969. At the time it was the largest hotel / casino in the world.

Elvis performed 837 consecutive shows at the International Theater over seven years with the theater often packed with stars like Cary Grant and Carole Channing. His last show was in December of 1976.
No performer since then has played more shows. Barry should hit that mark in 2023.
But note that Barry Manilow first played Las Vegas in January 1988 - so that's 35 years to achieve what Elvis did in just seven years! -

“I’ll Take You Home Again Kathleen” New Promo Video: The new 50th Anniv release 'Elvis Back In Nashville' is out next month, Nov 12.
On May 20, 1971 in the early hours of the morning, having laid down a few tracks for his up-coming Gospel album, Elvis sat down at the piano on his own and trying to relive the emotion of singing alone in Graceland, Elvis sang three old favourites for his studio friends.
These were two by Ivory Joe Hunter 'It's Still Here' and 'I Will Be True' plus an old classic 'I’ll Take You Home Again Kathleen'.
Elvis singing alone playing piano in Studio B was a totally unique situation and was luckily recorded by RCA.

The BBC reports on the death of Ronnie Tutt: Yesterday the BBC noted the death of the legendary Ronnie Tutt..
... Ronnie Tutt, the drummer who backed Elvis Presley from 1969 until his death eight years later, has died aged 83.
EPE broke the news on its website on Saturday, saying it was "deeply saddened".
Dallas-born Tutt also worked with Billy Joel, Neil Diamond and Jerry Garcia in a career that spanned six-decades.
His work can be heard on Joel's Piano Man, Elvis Costello's King of America and the Gram Parsons albums GP and Grievous Angel.
Tutt joined the King of Rock 'n' Roll for his 1969 live renaissance with guitarist James Burton and other musicians to perform with Elvis at his famous Las Vegas opening.
In an interview Tutt said, "Once you met Elvis and you |

understand the charisma that the man had, you just can't help but love what he does.
We immediately had a great rapport. Visually, our eyes were constantly watching each other."
On occasion in between songs, Presley would jokingly mimic karate moves on stage in time with Tutt's drumming.
He would also introduce Tutt to the crowd and indulge him as he entertained them with rollicking drum solos.
The sticksman continued working with Presley until his death in 1977, and played with TCB band members for years after.
A prolific live performer, he was also called upon by Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers, Glen Campbell and Roy Orbison.

"So sad to hear that the great Ronnie Tutt has died. What a drummer. I was lucky enough to work with him on the Neil Diamond at The Palladium show we did for ITV. I still have the drumsticks he gave me as he came offstage. #RIP"

Ronnie played drums for Elvis as part of the TCB Band from 1969 until 1977.

Ronnie Tutt has died Aged 83: Very sad news for all Elvis fans today, finding out that the incredible TCB Band drummer Ronnie Tutt has died aged 83.
Graceland posted a heartfelt tribute...
.."All of us at EPE were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ronnie Tutt. In addition to being a legendary drummer, he was a good friend to many of us here at Graceland. We enjoyed each time he joined us here to celebrate Elvis Week, Elvis' Birthday and many other special occasions. Ronnie was an amazing ambassador to Elvis' legacy - sharing his memories of working with Elvis with fans - as well as bringing Elvis' music to arenas around the globe through later "Elvis in Concert" shows and performances.
Ronnie Tutt played drums for Elvis as part of the TCB Band from 1969 until 1977. He was part of the band put together by James Burton for Elvis' 1969 Las Vegas opening - and stayed with Elvis until his death in 1977.
Ronnie later toured with Neil Diamond's band. He also recorded and performed with the likes of Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, Kenny Rogers, Elvis Costello, Stevie Nicks, Michael McDonald, among others.
Our hearts go out to Donna, his family, his fellow TCB Band members - and to his fans around the world.

- Ron Tutt was born in 1938 in Dallas, Texas and was considered a "Child Prodigy" by many as by the age of three he was already enrolled in voice and tap dance classes. He was soon playing violin in his school orchestra, then trumpet and finally playing drums in his final years at school.
He later studied music at North Texas University before moving to Los Angeles as a professional drummer.
Ronnie said, "The two greatest music influences on my life were Elvis Presley and Neil Diamond. Elvis for the flashy, explosive, slightly out of control, style of playing that he needed and Neil for wanting the opposite and a very disciplined drummer."
Ronnie Tutt was a true gentleman, a friend to all, and a delightful person to talk to.
He will be missed by all.

Top of the list drummer, amazing work with any top recording artists and live shows.
The James Burton and Friends show in Nashville, to our knowledge, was the last show that Ronnie played and it was truly an honor to have him give of his talents to the James Burton Foundation to give guitars to kids and vets. His playing on this show was INCREDIBLE. ⚡️TCB⚡️
Playing together over the years was so much fun, it was like a hand in a glove. We knew exactly how to play off each other.
You bet I will always miss him!!! 🥁🎸
The wonderful thing is that we know for sure Ronnie is in heaven with God and his family, Elvis and friends.
What a joy for his family to have this knowledge and we love all of them so much. 🙏✝️😇

‘Doncha' Think It's Time' A new 1958 Album’ New Import: A brand new "58" cd with amazing new spliced takes and remastered masters.
On the FTD album "King Creole" new mixes of the studio masters were released, these were done by Thorne Nogar and had studio snippets, like small talk and counting of to the takes, although it is nice to have it does not play as it should. Here presented for the first time are those masters without that.
Also included are some new and unreleased "spliced takes of other songs from 1958 as well as some "essential" home recordings, also edited for your listening pleasure.
The highlight of this album must be both "reversed" masters of the title track "Doncha Think It's Time" for both masters four takes were used, on this album the same four takes are used, but this time they used the parts that were not released at the time so you get two COMPLETE new versions of this great song.
Also not to be missed is the new "Ain't That Loving You Baby" which starts of with the slow version and ends with the rockin' version.

Book Review 'From Elvis in Japan': David Ward's 'From Elvis in Japan: Elvis Presley Japanese LPs 1956-2018' is the a very detailed and visually attractive Elvis “discography”. It covers Elvis LP (vinyl) releases in Japan between 1956 and 2018, the e-book is full of interesting information about each release and stunning images of the LP covers and discs.
The discography contains information on 131 Elvis LPs released in the “land of the rising sun”, a complete song index, and “value add” sections such as How to Read Elvis’ Name in Japanese, Japanese Albums with US Artwork, and English Lyrics (the translations are often outrageously funny!).
Japan also pressed plenty of unique compilations such as 'Elvis Presley Special 24', 'Elvis on Screen', 'Elvis Presley The Complete Singles (11 LP box set)' and 'Elvis Presley By Request of Japanese Fans'.

Framed under glass Elvis Summer Festival (1970) banner up for auction – starting bid price, a cool US$680,000.00: File under Elvis' nickname "crazy" - but now on ebay check out the "Orange satin banner from the International Hotel' Framed with wood and glass that measures 24 x 42 inches and the banner measures 11 x 28 inches. The photo was taken outdoors and the trees and sky are just a reflection and are not included."
While the banner is certainly a rare collector’s item, the starting bid price is particularly optimistic.

Elvis related novel wins Victoria Children’s Book Prize (Canada): The winners of the 2021 Victoria Book Prizes have been announced. Leslie Gentile won the $5,000 City of Victoria Children’s Book Prize for her book 'Elvis, Me, and the Lemonade Stand Summer' (Cormorant Books, Dancing Cat Books).
In their citation, the jury noted Gentile’s “first-rate storytelling, with a surprising plot twist, a twist on the twist, and a believable happy ending.”

Book of poetry opens with passage from Elvis song: Katherena Vermette prefaces the opening section in her second collection of poetry, river woman, with an epigraph from Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love.”
This may seem like a counterintuitive choice for the poems that follow, until one remembers that Elvis was repeatedly castigated for appropriating the music and styles of other cultures to turn a profit. This sort of cultural theft – by white Europeans at the expense of a racialized minority – is very much on the poet’s mind in river woman.

'Elvis vs. Lenin': A Superpower Confrontation on Canvas: An exhibition in Berlin examines the differences, and surprising confluences, between Cold War-era paintings from the United States and the Soviet Union. The exhibition opens with an obvious juxtaposition: Andy Warhol’s iconic “Elvis Presley (Single Elvis)” from 1964, with the singer brandishing a gun and dressed like a cowboy, is hung near an early-1980s portrait of Vladimir Lenin by the Russian artist Dmitri Nalbandyan, which shows the Soviet leader in his library. Both are clichés, but they jolt viewers into thinking about their own preconceptions.

Studies about social influence on boosting the uptake of flu vaccines suggest that talking about other people getting their shots might help to improve the uptake for Covid-19 vaccines, too. Baz Luhrmann Taking Care Of Business!: ELVIS movie director Baz Luhrmann has announced a weekly ELVIS DAY when he will share pictures to get fans involved in his upcoming biopic.
Luhrmann tweeted.. "Still taking care of business here... Thought we’d make Monday, ‘Elvis Day’, dropping you some favorite pics as we go through our journey."
Next summer his new ELVIS biopic will hit cinemas, charting the life and career of The King of Rock and Roll. But with less than a year to go we still haven’t had our first look at Austin Butler as Elvis or Tom Hanks as his manager Colonel Tom Parker, let alone a trailer.
The first set of pictures featured Elvis posing and performing back in the 1950s. The second set yesterday featured the comment, "To Understand The Elvis phenomenon you must first understand the Colonel".

Both soundboards are incomplete with both concerts starting after 'I Got A Woman' with Elvis' third song 'Love Me'...
EIN Note: in 2017 FTD released 'Elvis In Altanta' two of his three 1975 shows that he performed in this tour. At the time we noted that the audio mix left a little to be desired "The sound quality is what we expect from this tour with VERY prominent Piano and Voices but with everything else - drums, guitar, orchestra - way in the background. The benefit is you can easily hear Elvis" but we also noted "There is no doubt that he was well loved by his adoring audiences in Atlanta. The Omni ‘Opening Night’ captures a great crowd reaction and Elvis truly enjoying himself on stage. Worth playing several times." lets hope his final Omni performance is as good.

FTD Fire Down Below: The original September FTD release news we were expecting suddenly never happened. It seemed that something had gone wrong - and indeed we have the terrible news confirmed today that there has been a fire at the Denmark Impulse warehouse where all the FTD stock is stored.
FTD's Roger Semon has said that the fire was a few weeks ago and a lot
of older stock - "almost the entire FTD catalogue" according to some - has been destroyed.
The fire luckily did not go through the whole factory. Fingers crossed that some stock may be recovered.
EIN is not sure if this has affected release of the new FTD 'Making Of Jailhouse Rock' book from David English.
" .. It is with regret that due to another major fire at Impulse, FTD will be unable to distribute or supply any back catalogue items for the foreseeable future. It will be sometime before an in-depth assessment can be made regarding saleable product. We will obviously update as and when possible."

Baz Luhrmann’s ELVIS biopic: It has been revealed that at its CineEurope presentation in Barcelona, Warner Bros rocked out with a brief first-look at Baz Luhrmann’s ELVIS and screened some behind-the-scenes footage from Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore, providing a bit of fresh insight into both projects.
Elvis was also in the building, sort of, with this first-look at Luhrmann’s musical biopic. The film explores the life and music of the King of Rock and Roll (portrayed by Austin Butler), as seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (played by Tom Hanks). The footage included a look at Hanks as Parker and Butler as Elvis, interspersed with stills and set against the backdrop of some of Presley’s music.
In a video message, Luhrmann described the film as Parker’s take on Elvis.
Luhrmann began his creative journey on the film with 18 months spent in an office barn at The King’s home of Graceland. There he had access to the Presley archives to research the movie before shooting in his native Australia with Austin Butler as Elvis and Tom Hanks as The Colonel.

Change of Habit Blu-Ray release: Kino Lorber is releasing a Blu-ray edition of William A. Graham's Change of Habit (1969), starring Elvis Presley, Mary Tyler Moore, Barbara McNair, Edward Asner, and Jane Elliot.
The release is scheduled for release on October 19.
The company originally released the film on Blu-ray in Germany a year or so ago, however, the new release is for the (native) English speaking countries (English text cover).
The extras include a new audio commentary by film historians Howard S. Berger and Nathaniel Thompson, the theatrical trailer and optional English subtitles.

Priscilla reveals singers Elvis liked and didn’t like: Priscilla Presley revealed that Elvis had strong opinions on many contemporary artists and not all of them were positive. For example, he felt some contemporary singers deserved more acclaim. On the other hand, he couldn’t stand a certain type of singer.
Priscilla said, “Elvis could spot talent instantly. In Las Vegas, we regularly took in lounge acts featuring various up-and-coming artists, and if Elvis liked the show, he patronized the club. encouraging the entertainers to pursue their careers, infusing them with confidence and enthusiasm.”
Priscilla said Elvis liked mainstream performers and more obscure performers.
“Some of his favorites were Ike & Tina Turner, The Righteous Brothers, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, dancers Tybe and Bracia, and old-timers Fats Domino and the Ink Spots, all talented people deserving acknowledgment in their craft. Elvis of course admired the singing prowess of Tom Jones particularly 'Green, Green Grass of Home'.

Tom Jones was Elvis' friend, as was Bill Medley of The Righteous Brothers. Elvis sang their 'Unchained Melody' and 'You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’'.
"Elvis had some other very special favorites, Arthur Prysock, John Gary, opera star Robert Merrill, Brook Benton, Roy Orbison, and Charles Boyer’s recording ‘Where Does Love Go?”. The album of the same name reached #148 on the Billboard Album chart in 1966 and the 'spoken-word' album became one of Elvis' favourites.
The album included 'What Now My Love' and 'Softly As I Leave You', songs also recorded by Elvis.
Priscilla said her husband stood out from other artists because he was happy to see other people succeed. She said other musicians she knew didn’t act that way.
Priscilla also added that Elvis didn’t like a certain kind of singing. “He couldn’t abide singers who were, in his words, ‘all technique and no emotional feeling’ and in this category, he firmly placed Mel Tormé and Robert Goulet. They were both responsible for two television sets being blown away with a .357 Magnum.”

'Elvis Firearm & Weapon Collector' Re-Release: Back in August 2020 prolific author Paul Belard published 'Elvis Firearm & Weapon Collector: An Illustrated Compendium'
Elvis’ love of guns (and other weapons) is well known, but until now there has not been a detailed narrative and visual record of this passion. Belard has managed to compile a visually impressive and comprehensive account, presenting hundreds of Elvis’ guns, knives, holsters, and other associated items, and most of the items are in color.
Includes interesting background information and a range of rare archival material - including affidavits, auction records, and letters of provenance.

Elvis Was A Spy for Richard Nixon!: The UK Guardian recently ran one of its satirical "Pass Notes" about Elvis.
And the story brought a smile to EIN's face.
In it The Guardian claims that progressive BBC DJ Bob Harris - of the "Old Grey Whistle Test" TV series - recently confirmed that The King really did spy on John Lennon for Richard Nixon!
Recently speaking on the Rockonteurs podcast, Bob Harris said that "Nixon had detailed Elvis to gather as much information about John Lennon as he could”.
“Nixon loathed Lennon, he really did,” due to the latter’s outspoken criticism of the Vietnam war. By 1972, Nixon was trying to get Lennon deported from the US.
Elvis and Lennon also disliked each other when they met in 1965. “It was hate at first sight,” said Harris.
But is this story about Elvis spying for Nixon true?
Harris claimed that Nixon and Elvis were great friends, and while that may be an exaggeration, it is true that the King and the president had a famously weird meeting at the White House in 1970.
The article humorously continues... Elvis doesn’t really strike us as the undercover type. How do you suppose he’s managed to keep such a low profile over the years?

Latest release from Paul Belard – Elvis June 1956: Paul Belard’s latest Elvis photo-journal, Elvis June 1956, will be published shortly. Its 220 pages are filled with background information on Elvis; activities that month, rare archival material (reviews, press ads, etc) and hundreds of photos including several colorized images showing Elvis on stage wearing an impressively stylish red jacket.
From the book Preface:
... The 1956 juggernaut is picking up strength during this month. On the 3rd, Elvis gave a concert in Oakland. The next day, he flew to Los Angeles to rehearse his second ap pearance on the Milton Berle show which took place on the 5th. Elvis’ legendary rendition of “Hound Dog” delighted the fans, and enraged the crit ics. One described his exhibition as “tinged with the kind of animalism that should be confined to dives and bordellos.” Another explained with a hint of racism that Elvis “makes up for vocal shortcomings with the weirdest and plainly sugges tive animation short of an aborigine’s mating dance.” The reaction of the Catholic church was predictable. In an article titled “Beware of Elvis Presley”, it wrote: “If the agencies (TV and others) would stop handling such nauseating stuff, all the Presleys of our land would soon be swallowed up in the oblivion they deserve.” It did not happen! Concerts followed through the 10th.

appeared on Wink Martindale’s “Dance Party” show on WHBQ TV. He did not sing, but promoted the July 4 charity show in Memphis. On Tuesday, June 19, Elvis attended “colored night” celebrating Juneteenth, the old est known celebration honoring the end of slavery in the United States. By choosing to attend the black-only event in one of the most racially divided cities in America, he demonstrated his close affinity with African-Americans. It led local newspapers to report that Elvis had violated segregation laws when he attended the Memphis Fair grounds amusement park on ‘“colored night” only. On the 21st, he embarked on a 7-day tour of Georgia, North and South Carolina. The month culminated with a rehearsal for his appearance on the Steve Allen show, which would take place on July 1st, and a concert in Richmond on the last day of the month.

(Mini Book Review) 'The Elvis Film Collector An Introductory Guide to Collecting UK Film Memorabilia 1956-1977' (Harry Carrington): Already in its 2nd printing, this is an impressive large hardcover release with 282 pages, which you will browse through time and time again. With great page design offering neat balance and placement between text and image, and good use of white space, it offers a treasure trove of narrative, photo, and many rare archival treats. While largely descriptive, the narrative is interesting and offers the occasional surprise, such as this in the Fun In Acapulco section:
... Elvis' records had been banned from Mexico's radio in 1957 and for complete sale in shops in 1959 after Ernesto Peralta Uruchurtu, a powerful politician had spread the rumour that Elvis had said he “found the country distasteful as a whole and would’ve preferred to kiss three African Americans than a single Mexican.”
Elvis had not said this, and it was later revealed it was the politician’s revenge for Elvis not agreeing to do a private concert for his daughter’s fifteenth birthday.

Bob Moore, Elvis bass-man, Dead at 88: Bob Moore one of the key "Nashville A-Team" who played on Elvis' sessions from June 1958 (A Big Hunk O' Love) to January 1968 (US Male) died yesterday, aged 88.
Bob Moore played on recordings, often at RCA's Studio B, with artists from Patsy Cline to Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Tom Jones, Kenny Rogers, Brook Benton and Elvis. In the 1960s he had a string of hits with his own band including the instrumental “Mexico.” Bob’s bass playing helped blend country music and rock and roll to form the Nashville Sound along with fellow A Team members Boots Randolph, Harold Bradley, Floyd Cramer, Buddy Harman and producers Owen Bradley and Chet Atkins.
Bob Moore was born in Nashville and by age 15 he was playing double bass on a tent show tour with a Grand Ole Opry musical group. In 1950 producer Owen Bradley hired Moore to perform on a direct-to-disk transcription which was recorded via cable from the stage of the Ryman Theatre. Moving to become as session musician Bob Moore then went on to perform on over 17,000 officially documented recording sessions.
In June 1958 he played on his first of many Elvis Presley sessions at RCA Studio B. The following year he teamed up with Fred Foster to establish Monument Records, where, as the label's musical director, he created arrangements for Roy Orbison. In 1960 he formed the Bob Moore Orchestra and recorded an album which included 'Mexico' a 1961 single that went to #7 on the Billboard charts. Bob Moore also plays the bass intro on the Roger Miller hit "King of the Road".

This was, of course, long before he came to be referred to as ‘The King.’ Elvis was a good person. A genuine, likeable person. He had a beautiful voice. He was very serious about his music. Dedicated. But not a boring stick in the mud. We always laughed and had a good time in the studio. Elvis loved hanging with the guys and being part of the creative process. Looking back, I’m sure those years were the happiest years of Elvis’ life. It hurts me deeply to know his life ended so tragically."

Elvis books rank well on Amazon Children’s Rock Music (CRM) Top 100 Sales Chart: On the 19 September Amazon CRM Top 100 chart, Elvis had eight titles. Highest placed was the softcover book, Who Was Elvis Presley? (Geoff Edgers) at #2 (The Story of Rock was #1). This release is part of a “Who is/was/were?” series and others in the Top 100 Chart included editions for the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen. Geoff Edgers’ book also ranked at #34 for its Kindle edition and #46 for the Audible Audiobook release. At #32 on the chart was an allegedly “Official” 2022 Elvis Calendar (as it is independently published, EIN has a suspicious mind about it being an “official” calendar), #56 was Elvis is King (Jonah Hill - hardcover), #73 Elvis and the Talent Show (Charles Weaver - softcover), #76 Elvis The Story of the Rock & Roll King (Bonnie Christenen – hardcover), and at #96 was the Kindle of edition of Elvis is King (Jonah Winter).
EIN found it a major positive that Elvis books are appealing to a young audience.
With Christmas fast approaching they could make a novel addition under the Christmas tree or in the Christmas stocking.

Elvis, the Big Loser in Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Songs of All Time 2021: This week Rolling Stone magazine has compiled another debate-triggering list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time'.
There are some truly sublime and life-changing artists featured in their Top Ten - but unbelievably NOT Elvis Presley.
Apparently 'Dreams' by Fleetwood Mac and 'Hey Ya!' by Outkast are much greater songs than Hound Dog, Heartbreak Hotel, Blue Suede Shoes, Jailhouse Rock, Suspicious Minds and That's All Right!
Interestingly Rolling Stone magazine reviewed 'Dreams' when first relased by Fleetwood Mac on their 1977 album as.. "'Dreams' is a nice but fairly lightweight tune, and Nicks nasal singing is the only weak vocal on the record." How hilarious is that.
EIN thinks someone's been drinking the kool-aid!
Aretha Franklin with her fantastic take on Otis Redding's 'Respect' is voted the 'greatest song of all time'.
Public Enemy's 'Fight The Power' apparently not worthy of the top 300 back in the previous 2004 list is now voted #2.
Sam Cooke's brilliant 'A Change Is Gonna Come' is third.
There is something very strange going on.

Sam Bell, Elvis' childhood friend, Dead at 85: Sam Bell who is well-known to Elvis fans as a friend from his Tupelo days, has died at 85.
Sam Bell was also known for breaking racial barriers through his athletic prowess and local community leadership.
He died on September 6, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
Sam Bell was a close childhood friend of Elvis' and shared many stories of his friendship with Presley.
Dick Guyton, executive director of the Elvis Presley Birthplace & Museum in Tupelo, said he met Bell in the 1980s when the two were working in human resources.
They saw each other from time to time, but he didn’t find out about Bell’s connection to Presley until Guyton came to work at the Birthplace.
Bell was invited to all of the Birthplace's events and participated in many fan appreciation days alongside fellow friend of Presley, Guy Harris.
"There are all sorts of stories. Sam and Elvis used to go to Black churches and listen to their singing on Sunday nights. They used to play together. It's a great loss."
Sam Bell commented about Elvis, "We had a swimming hole and go fishing together in the creeks. We'd go down to the fairgrounds and |

play baseball out there. He'd end doing a concert there later on.
It hurt so bad when he had to leave (for Memphis).
His Mother Gladys used to make the best cool-aid and she always trusted Elvis being with us.
Elvis was a different kinda' guy, he wasn't boastful but he wanted to do better. We were surprised when the family left. -

Convention Center in Fort Worth Texas. These were the first four shows

'Think Twice: Elvis in The Studio 1971': The forthcoming 'Back In Nashville' boxset is going to shine the spotlight on Elvis' 1971 sessions which have traditionally been ignored by the official label. In this fascinating and detailed article EIN contributor Shane Brown examines these all too easily dismissed Nashville sessions and discovers some real gems.
It’s very easy to look at the March, May and June 1971 recordings out of context. While the recordings are certainly not up to the standard of those from June 1970, it’s also true to say that Elvis was in a very different place personally by spring 1971.
In June 1970 Elvis was riding the crest of a wave with his recent successes but by January 1971 he was in the newspapers due to an ongoing paternity suit.
The Presley’s marriage was on the rocks and Elvis was having problems with his eyes.
However despite all of this there was something very interesting going on during the 1971 sessions.

| New MRS VINYL Review: What Elvis playlist do you listen to on August 16th ever year? Mine is always some recent new VINYL.
There is something so tactile and visual about VINYL that not only does it feel more "genuine" but it also reminds me of when Elvis was alive and everything we listened to was on vinyl.
This year 2021 - while in CV19 lockdown - my most recently acquired vinyl were the three recent MRS VINYL releases and what fine and innovative albums they are.

'Selling Elvis in 2021' EIN Spotlight: One of the most common questions asked of EIN is "how do I sell my Elvis records?"
Sadly, the market for Elvis’ recorded material is a shadow of what it was in the decade following his death. The exceptions are high quality original Sun Studio singles and various obscure releases such as test pressings, demos and acetates.
The best time of the year to sell anything ELVIS related is, of course, now around "Elvis Week" in August.
In 2021, demand for Elvis records generally continues to diminish as the sheer volume of Elvis records pressed means most collectors already have what they want, older fans are passing away, and younger fans are not as interested in physical records.
Highlighting the situation, a recent edition of the excellent Vintage Rock magazine featured a fascinating article discussing how the market for 50s vinyl has dipped and which artists and recordings are maintaining buyer interest.

RCA/Legacy Commemorates 50th Anniversary of Elvis Presley’s Final Nashville Sessions with release of 'Elvis: Back In Nashville' on Friday, November 12
The 4 Disc Collection presents 82 pristine Studio Original Recordings, free of overdubs.
Like its predecessor 'From Elvis In Nashville' from last year, 'Elvis: Back In Nashville' is designed to showcase Elvis Presley and his core band as they sounded during the actual sessions without orchestral overdubs and vocal accompaniment. A key difference between Elvis’ 1970 and 1971 Nashville sessions is that many of the 1971 recordings included backing singers; therefore, Elvis: Back In Nashville offers a variety of song performances both with and without vocal augmentation.
Given the prolific output of great recordings created by Elvis during the fabled 1970 marathon sessions that may be heard on From Elvis In Nashville, RCA and the Elvis camp decided to stick with the winning combination of tight band, seasoned studio, well-chosen repertoire and relaxed spontaneous Elvis behind the microphone and record as much material as possible over a short period of time. |

With Elvis’ upcoming concert activities increasing, future studio time would be limited and so the goal of these sessions was to generate perhaps a year’s worth of new songs. RCA and the Colonel let Elvis know they’d like a new Christmas album, a gospel album, a pop album, and “several new singles for summer and fall releases” and so, Elvis’ music coordinator/producer Felton Jarvis booked a whole week of all-night sessions starting March 15, 1971 and brought on the same band he’d used the year before.
Elvis Presley’s return in 1970 to recording in Nashville had been revelatory. Those sessions, on the heels of his Memphis recordings and a return to the stage, had done more than simply sustain a comeback. They also introduced Elvis to a great new rhythm section and gifted Elvis with a great new sound. Bassist Norbert Putnam, drummer Jerry Carrigan, and pianist David Briggs had helped transform country music rhythms in the sixties after they transplanted their R&B-indebted style from F. A. M. E. studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, to Nashville session work. When producer Felton Jarvis teamed Elvis with the Muscle Shoals boys, along with session guitarist Chip Young, jack of all musical trades Charlie McCoy, and Presley’s bandleader James Burton, they together created the belatedly acclaimed Elvis Country in the process providing Elvis with a country-soul template he’d trace often in the last years of his life. |
Music critic Dave Marsh once wrote that, even with his acclaim, “Elvis Presley was probably the most underrated singer of all.” Overdubs removed, what’s revealed on Elvis: Back In Nashville is some of the most compelling singing of Presley’s career.
Disc 1 features 18 tracks and includes The Country/Folk Sides (an unrealized Elvis project featuring songs by Ewan McColl, Gordon Lightfoot, Kris Kristofferson, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and Bob Dylan), The Piano Recordings (raw Elvis singing Ivory Joe Hunter with piano accompaniment) and The Pop Sides (classic pop compositions including “Padre,” “Fools Rush In Where Angels Fear To Tread,” “My Way,” “I’m Leavin'” and more).
Disc 2 features 25 tracks divided between The Religious Sides (classic and contemporary gospel) and The Christmas Sides (sacred and secular seasonal holiday music).
Disc 3 features 19 tracks and picks up on the country pop repertoire adding some rock ‘n’ roll with a variety of cuts including impromptu performances of “Johnny B. Goode” and “Lady Madonna,” an epic take on Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, (It’s Alright)”, fresh interpretations of “Help Me Make It Through The Night,” “Early Morning Rain” and more.
Disc 4 features 20 tracks and includes The Religious Outtakes and The Christmas Outtakes

UPDATED- The collapse of the Elvis Bootleg Empire: Has Ernst won the war?’: Back in 1999 Ernst Jorgensen and Roger Semon convinced BMG to let them start the FTD collectors label in order to counteract the Elvis bootleg companies which had been selling unreleased material to fans since the very first vinyl bootleg 'Please Release Me' was issued back in 1970.
Of all the bootleg labels that have come and gone the 'Madison' label was one of the very few that always produced high-quality releases and which happened to start at the same time as FTD. The designs were top-notch and with detailed sleeve notes they easily competed with the legal Elvis releases.
In 2021 ‘Madison’ have returned with the new bootleg ‘A Legendary Performer Volume 9’ but all is not what was promised. The Elvis bootleg vaults are empty and FTD appears to have won the game.

'ELVIS: Las Vegas Hilton ‘73' FTD Review: Released last month as double 5” digi-pak, this set features Elvis in two shows at the Las Vegas Hilton, August 20 (midnight) and September 2nd (3AM) - in his 9th Las Vegas season.
The August 20, 1973 (Midnight Show) is an old favourite that was released as a Fort Baxter bootleg back in 1995 on 'A Profile The King On Stage Vol 1'. It was a "stereo sound booth audience recording" in pretty good quality.
The September 2, 1973 (3AM show) however is previously unreleased - and it is great fun!
After the earlier traumas Elvis’ health had improved by his 1973 Las Vegas Summer Season and while there is a slight feeling of boredom (which can be no surprise after the peak of Aloha) Elvis was enjoying himself teasing the audience and playing pranks. He would also add new songs ‘Trouble’ and ‘My Boy’ to the setlist while still feeling the freshness of ‘Steamroller Blues’.

MRS ‘Las Vegas International Presents Elvis – September 1970': MRS will release a series of special releases titled ‘Las Vegas International Presents Elvis – September 1970' on 24th September 2021.
The formats include a 2CD deluxe that will feature a new previously unreleased soundboard from 2nd September 1970 and a bonus CD, that will cover the final rehearsals at the International Hotel on August 10th before the start of the summer festival with great technological improvements upgrades.
In September 1970 Elvis was still excited to be back on stage and performing for his fans.

As we announced about Antonella’s book last month:

"On Tour" 50th Anniversary - FTD vs Lorentzen release:
In the same way that the FTD 'TTWII' Collectors Edition had to include similar photos to Erik Lorentzen's 'TTWII' Summer Festival publication, a debate among Elvis collectors has already started regarding the two new 'On Tour' editions and which one to purchase.
Lorentzen promises the earlier publication this year, whereas FTD are still gathering documentation and unseen images for their 2022 release.
Trouble has also started as Lorentzen has stated about his book, "Unique in this 1200 page edition is that for the first time the complete and very extensive information of all shows and sessions" yet now Ernst Jørgensen has posted that his personal session notes are being used without permission.

It will be difficult for fans to decide which to buy, or both, especially with the extra wait for the David English / Pål Granlund 50th Anniversary FTD 'On Tour' project.
Ernst Jørgensen posted the following statement..
"It has come to my attention that some of my personal recording notes are being used in Erik Lorentzen’s forthcoming Elvis On Tour book.
This is disappointing; as Erik has been notified that this information is private and confidential, and prior to publication permission is required, which has not been granted.
Pål, David and myself are working on an 'Elvis On Tour' FTD release for 2022, this information will be included with this release."
We do however also know that FTD will be including audio cds with their publication, the audio content however has not been finalised as yet.

(Book Review) Elvis November 1956: As fans, we do not always realize that what we think we know about Elvis’ life, happened in short periods of time. Paul Belard’s visual biography series illustrates how hectic Elvis’ life and rise to fame was.
The latest release in Paul Belard’s series of photobooks, covering just one month in 1956, highlights just how much happened.
It was a busy time, Elvis spent time with his girlfriend Natalie Wood and buddy, Nick Adams on his new Harley Davidson. He did a small tour in the south with Scotty, DJ and Bill making stops in Toledo, Cleveland, Troy and Louisville, Kentucky. And managed to squeeze in a 10-day holiday with Bitsy Mott, Gene Smith and Richard Dougher to Las Vegas, returning to the New Frontier Hotel.
EIN’s Nigel Patterson and Elvis Day By Day’s Kees Mouwen joined forces to provide a detailed review of the narrative, visual and archival highlights from what was a a very busy month for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

'Elvis UK' Book Re-Issue: Following the successful release of 'Elvis UK3 The Ultimate Guide To Elvis Presley’s British CD Releases 1983-2005' as a Flip book in February 2021, co-authors John Townson and Gordon Minto are pleased to announce that their original book – the long out-of-print Elvis UK – published in 1987 – is now to be made available using the same digital technology but with an additional 60 pages of ‘bonus material’.
Our prime reason for making this book available is due to the constant requests for hard copies as it went out of print in the late 1980s. Unfortunately, a physical reprint was not an option, owing to extremely high production costs – just as it wasn’t for Elvis UK3. However, unlike the latter project - which we wanted to be able to update when required – 'Elvis UK' will be available as a download. The document will not be held on a digital platform and accessed via the internet, but will be available on the buyer’s own device.
Importantly though, the original book appears exactly as it was in 1987 as it has not been possible to make any textl amendments as the book did not exist in a digital form.
The original Elvis UK was a 565 page hard-backed reference book, published by Blandford Press, dealing with the then hitherto largely unexplored subject of Elvis Presley’s UK record releases from March 1956 through to 1986, nine years after Presley’s death. The digital copy of Elvis UK features:

Book Review: 'Elvis The King of the Rings Vol 1': Author-researcher Paul Belard has released the latest installment in his ongoing Elvis day-by-day biography series, visually (and narratively) documenting Elvis Presley's life and times. Unlike previous volumes, this book doesn’t cover a specific period of time, it covers a “shiny” part of our man's life, his love for big and glittery jewelry, specifically rings.
Elvis liked expensive things: cars, motorcycles, clothes, and jewelry. His jewels befitted a king. He wore sumptuous pendants hung on heavy gold chains; huge lavish rings dripping of rubies, sapphires, lapis lazuli, and emeralds; bracelets of gold and precious gems.
The singer Robert Goulet described Elvis’ penchant for generosity: “I remember once we sat together backstage for two hours. And he was a charming, delightful man. And at one point I said, “That’s a beautiful ring you have there.” He said, “You like it?” I said, “It’s beautiful!” He took it off his hand and put it on mine. He gave me his ring.”
Belard's new book features 254 pages dedicated to Elvis’ love of rings.
The photos include close-ups of so much glorious "Bling" along with stories of Elvis wearing them on-stage and even where they ended up.

'Jay Thompson and Elvis Presley' Spotlight: In April 1956 Disc-jockey Jay Thompson, from Breckenridge radio station KSTB, interviewed a young Elvis Presley while he was touring through Texas on a string of one-night stands. In that 1956 interview Elvis interestingly revealed that he was previously training to be an electrician, that his first movie would be The Rainmaker and that he did not know Bill Black or Scotty Moore before their Sun session.
In 1982 Elvis fan Scott Wheeler befriended and interviewed Jay Thompson about the experience. Although Jay never actively participated in Elvis-related events or productions in later years he also never sought notoriety for the interview either. However we believe it's important that Jay Thompson be well remembered for his valuable contribution to the history of Elvis.

'Summer Festival 1970: The Rehearsals' In-Depth Review: MRS's new triple-CD set 'Summer Festival 1970: The Rehearsals' was released last month.
The CDs contain rehearsal highlights from one of the most memorable periods in Elvis’ career - his captivating performances at The International Hotel Las Vegas in the summer of 1970. Book Review - 'ELVIS UK3': Recently published 'ELVIS UK3' The Ultimate Guide to Elvis Presley's British CD Releases 1983-2005' by John Townson and Gordon Minto comprises 1400 pages with over a million words plus 4,000 plus illustrations.
This examination of Elvis’ British releases is an incredibly detailed narrative and visual record of his CD releases in the UK from 1983 to 2005.
The first Elvis CD, 'The Legend' (3CD), was released in the UK in December 1983. Reflecting the fledgling nature of the format, UK fans had to wait another 12 months until the release of not one, but three, Elvis albums, in December 1984. By that time, the flood gates for the CD medium were starting to strain.
As with the authors’ earlier two volumes on Elvis UK vinyl releases, the information in Elvis UK3 is exhaustive.
To say that Elvis UK3 was well-researched would be a serious understatement. There is so much information in this book that it is difficult to comprehensively review it all. While many collectors will be most interested in the technical details for each entry, the author’s narrative is excellent.

'The Best Use of Elvis Music in Recent Movies': In the first two decades after his untimely death it was rare to hear an Elvis song in a new feature film - and certainly not in a TV advert.
EPE / BMG seemed reluctant to licence Elvis' music which is strange considering the amount of sub-standard Elvis products they were pumping out to fans. But everything changed in 2002 with ‘ALLC' hitting number one all around the world .
So with Baz Luhrmann's ELVIS biopic in production it's a good time to revisit some of the best use of Elvis music in recent movies.
Film producers have discovered that using ELVIS in recent movie soundtracks can be a powerful and positive idea.
From the cartoon Lilo & Stitch to the blockbuster Blade Runner 2049 and the Elton John biopic Rocketman, the use of Elvis songs in the soundtrack can add that something special.

A 4CD collection presenting the definitive chronicle of Elvis' 1970 marathon sessions with the "Nashville Cats".
Recorded live in RCA's Studio B over the course of an epic five day run in June 1970 now, for the first time, the sessions are presented in pristine audio, newly mixed by acclaimed engineer Matt Ross-Spang without the added overdubs appearing on earlier releases.

(Book Review) From Elvis in Memphis (Eric Wolfson): The 150th volume in the popular Bloomsbury Academic 33 1/3 series of music history and criticism books is Eric Wolfson’s From Elvis in Memphis (due out on 12 November).
EIN’s Nigel Patterson recently sat down and submerged himself in what is the first (and long overdue) extensive examination of any Elvis album.
What Nigel found was a deeply considered, strongly written, and thought provoking analysis of what many regard as Elvis’ finest album.

Folk singer Arlo Guthrie (son of legend Woody Guthrie) tells a truly wonderful life-affirming story of singing Elvis' 'Can't Help Falling In Love With You' at a European folk festival, to 30,000 folk music lovers!
He jokes about choosing a song made popular by 'The King of Folk Singers' Elvis Presley.
Arlo Guthrie teases fellow musician Pete Seeger about him being a core "Folkie" and exactly how Elvis' music fits into the whole equation.

'ELVIS In The 2010s' A Personal Review of the Past Decade: Rather like Elvis’s own career, each decade since Elvis’s death appears to have had a theme or identity of its own. Clearly the late 1970s were difficult for RCA as they struggled to find the right direction with which to take their posthumous releases, and so it was the 1980s that was the decade when the company slowly but surely learned how to look back at Elvis's legacy and start to make some sense of it.
The 1990s were when that reached a peak, with the decades boxed sets, and the Elvis in the 90s series, thus bringing virtually the whole catalogue back into print in a coherent way.
The 2000s were when errors of judgement at retail level started to occur (despite huge successes like Elv1s), but also when FTD came into its own and flourished.
And so what will we make of Elvis releases of the 2010s when we look back on them from the future?

'What was Elvis searching for?' EIN Spotlight: The question is raised – but never answered – in the title of HBO’s recent absorbing, imperfect documentary 'Elvis Presley: The Searcher'.
At the start it seems clear what the teenage Elvis was searching for – an escape from the oblivion of poverty in the American South. Yet his quest was cultural as well as financial.
Later Elvis read obsessively, seeking out such books as The Impersonal Life, Joseph Brenner’s guide to self-discovery and Kahil Gibran’s book of fables, The Prophet. In his copy of Gibran’s tome, Elvis jotted down the line: “A singer can sing his songs but he must have an ear to receive the song”.
So what exactly was Elvis searching for? In this fascinating EIN Spotlight respected author Paul Simpson takes a close look at this all important question which, for some reason, was basically ignored in the recent HBO documentary..

The VINYL Boom: Over 7.6 million vinyl LPs were sold in the USA during the first half of 2018, a 20% increase from the previous year, while in Australia vinyl sales increased by $3 million, the same increase of 20%. In the same period CD sales however dropped by 15%.
Elvis vinyl is still selling very nicely with ‘ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits’ recently in the UK Top ten VINYL charts.

... What is there to say about Elvis Presley that hasn’t already been said?
It may be 41 years since the icon died tragically at only 42 years old but his music continues to live on, and likely will forever. It’s actually mind-blowing to think that his music has survived for almost as long as he was alive. In 2002 Sony Music released a new greatest hits collection titled ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits, which dominated charts across the world and sold millions and millions of copies. 16 years on from its original release, ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits has been reissued on 2LP vinyl.
Taking inspiration from the album cover, the release has been pressed on gold vinyl making the whole package feel very special.
Presley was an incredibly prolific artist so getting this collection down to 31 tracks was no easy feat. It also includes the ALLC Junkie XL remix.
What was achieved with ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits though, is a

collection that gives you all the highlights you need from The King’s career to showcase the incredible impact he had on music. The album opens with Heartbreak Hotel and there isn’t a single filler track here.
It’s actually near impossible to pick out highlights across the 2LPs because every single one of these songs is a classic.
Of course no Elvis collection would be complete without Suspicious Minds and that track is near the end of the track listing on the final side.
The release features the artwork from the original 2002 release and it’s a beautiful, high-quality gatefold. I mentioned earlier about the gold vinyl but what I’ve not commented on yet is the sound. The CD version was a little patchy given that the songs were all recorded at different times. It’s not as noticeable on the vinyl release and the quality is crystal clear. The warm crackle of vinyl adds to the overall feel too.
ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits is a must-have release for any Elvis Presley fan. While he had plenty of great songs that aren’t featured here, this collection truly is the definitive one to own. There’s not a single bad song here and it’s lengthy enough to give you value for money. The whole vinyl package is fantastic and it looks as good as it sounds.
They don’t make artists like Elvis anymore and they probably never will again.

Mindi Miller Interview with EIN: Mindi Miller was a working actress when she met Elvis in early 1975. She was interested in karate (she performed all her own movie stunts), exploring spirituality and the Bible and so they had a lot in common.
Mindi Miller and Elvis bonded over their common interests and soon afterwards he asked her to go on tour with him in April 1975.
She stayed friends with Elvis through the years - along with members of the 'Memphis Mafia' - and attended his funeral.

'Marty Lacker: A Life Well-Lived' & Elvis at American Studio's Interview: It was with immense sadness that last month EIN had to report on the death of our great friend - and a true friend to Elvis - Marty Lacker. We will miss him dearly.
Marty is well-known as one of the key members of the Memphis Mafia and also co-Best Man at Elvis' wedding. He was known for both his honesty and being forthright with his opinions. He was the only member of the Memphis Mafia who still watched and commented on recent Elvis News. He had no issue with holding people to account (especially ones who would inflate their importance within Elvis' legacy) and would regularly ask EIN to add his comments or to correct any inaccuracy.
Elvis fans often ask about Marty Lacker's background, how he came to meet Elvis, as well as his involvement in the music industry outside of working for The King.

Did Elvis Record 'Tiger Man' At Sun?: A question that has puzzled Elvis fans through the years is whether he actually recorded the song ‘Tiger Man’ during his years at SUN studios.
The basic question is why did Elvis refer to 'Tiger man' several times in concert as “The second song that I ever recorded, not too many people heard it”?
And if Elvis DID record it, then why hasn’t any reference to it at SUN or proof of its existence been found?
Elvis would first perform ‘Tiger Man’ in concert at his first 1969 Las Vegas International season and would continue playing it through the years – usually in a medley with Mystery Train - until his last performance at Saginaw on May 3 1977. He would sing it over 150 times on stage!
The thought that there might be an acetate or undiscovered tape of Elvis at SUN singing ‘Tiger Man’ is a mouth-watering concept - but is it an unlikely fantasy or strong possibility?
