Luhrmann’s ELVIS movie now for 2022 release: Baz Luhrmann’s ELVIS biopic, now currently in production in Australia, has moved its official release date from November 5, 2021 to June 3, 2022.
The movie will explore the life and music of Elvis ( Austin Butler), seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks.
The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America.
Olivia DeJonge, Gary Clark, Jr., Yola, Shonka Dukureh, Shannon Sanders, Lenesha Randolph, Jordan Holland, Kelvin Harrison Jr. , Alton Mason also star.
Australia's David Wenham will play TV director Steve Binder. The biopic also stars Natasha Bassett as Dixie Locke, Xavier Samuel as Scotty Moore, Leon Ford as Tom Diskin, Kate Mulvany as Marion Keisker, Gareth Davies as Bones Howe, Charles Grounds as Billy Smith, Josh McConville as Sam Phillips, and Adam Dunn as Bill Black.
On the cast, Luhrmann said: “Elvis was surrounded by an extraordinary array of rich personalities, and we are very fortunate to pull together a tremendous ensemble to tell this story. Jimmie Rodgers dies [composer of 'It's Over']: James (Jimmie) Rodgers composer of Number 1 'Honeycomb', 'Kisses Sweeter Than Wine' and 'It’s Over' which Elvis featured in his stunning Aloha TV performance died on January 18, aged 87.

... The death of Jimmie Rodgers at age 87 from kidney disease and COVID-19 complications on Jan. 18, 2021, prompted a deep dive into his discography. Between 1957 and 1967, the Camas, Washington-raised artist accumulated 14 Top 40 Billboard singles such as “Honeycomb” [No. 1], “Kisses Sweeter Than Wine” [No. 7], “Oh-Oh, I’m Falling In Love Again” [No. 7], “Secretly” [No. 3], “Are You Really Mine?” [No. 10], and “Bimbombey” [No. 11]. Rodgers’ composition “It’s Over” [No. 37 POP, Glen Campbell and drummer Hal Blaine were on the session] was given an orchestral makeover by Elvis Presley during his innovative Aloha from Hawaii satellite broadcast.
A songwriter and acoustic guitarist since his Korean stint in the Air Force, Rodgers’ career trajectory found him exploring pop, folk, country and western and even gospel. Rodgers pioneered folk rock and had an unusual guitar style where he strummed hard right hand rhythm barre chords with his thumb. A lap steel guitar belonged to his parents, and Rodgers learned by tuning to an open E chord. Richie Havens was a similar picker, albeit on a more accomplished scale. Towards the end of Rodgers’ four-year tenure with Morris Levy’s notorious Roulette Records, he waxed “Sloop John B” under its alternate title of “The Wreck of the John B”.
A diverse array of singers- e.g. the Weavers, Johnny Cash, soul stirring balladeer Jerry Butler, Barry McGuire, Dick Dale and His Del-Tones, The Ventures, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed — have tackled the traditional folk standard recounting a sailor’s homesickness going back to the dawn of Truman’s second presidential administration.
Founding Beach Boy Al Jardine acknowledges the Kingston Trio’s 1958 recording, found on their debut self-titled album, as inspiring Brian Wilson’s landmark Pet Sounds production which enlisted the prolific Wrecking Crew for a lush, Spectorized “Wall of Sound” intertwined with multi-layered group harmonies. “John B” was a runaway smash in the hands of America’s Band, narrowly missing the top of the charts in late spring 1966 and becoming an oldies radio perennial.
Besides an unexpected Top Five hit in the UK with “English Country Garden” in 1962, Rodgers’ radio-friendly days grew sporadic.

In spite of a heart attack and earlier major altercation with the Police, the deeply religious Rodgers toured intermittently, singing and playing guitar live to deep cuts including the Buddy Holly-dedicated “500 Miles Away from Home.” Elvis fans heard him interviewed on Memphis mafia alum George Klein’s SiriusXM Elvis show. In 2016 Rodgers exhibited symptoms of dementia and was living in a care facility in California at the time of his passing.

(Interview) academic and Elvis researcher Mathias Haeussler talks to EIN: In December 2020 Professor Mathias Haeussler’s book, Inventing Elvis: An American Icon in A Cold War World was published.
EIN’s Nigel Patterson sat down with Mathias for a fascinating face-to-face (via the wonders of Zoom technology) and thought-provoking interview.
In the first part of their discussion, some of the topics explored are why Mathias decided to write a book about Elvis’ role in the Cold War context; the official certificate he noticed on display at Graceland; Elvis, youth culture and propaganda in the 1950s; the impact of Elvis’ sexualised performing style; Elvis’ films and the Cold War; and Elvis and the issue of Race.

New "Letters of Colonel Tom Parker" Book: Another confirmation that music writer and Elvis author Peter Guralnick is working on a new book around the “letters” of Colonel Tom Parker. In an interview with Jim Patterson (for chapter16.org) Peter Guralnick said: I’ve started now on a project that initially I wanted to start 20 years ago, which was a collection of Colonel Parker’s letters, which I would select and annotate and introduce. That’s actually becoming a reality.
This will give us a completely different picture of Colonel Parker than most people have, because the letters are so eloquent, so witty, also so smart and so to-the-point that they’re just fascinating.
I learnt when I told both Sam Phillips and Col Parker the title of the first volume of my biography of Elvis, “Last Train to Memphis,” Sam got hugely indignant. “So what are you talking about? The last train? There’s going to be lots |

more trains. This isn’t the last train. You know, the future is looking bright ahead.”
At the time Col Parker said to me, “What are you talking about? We took trains and buses... You know, money doesn’t grow on trees.” So I thought, okay, that’s it. No more revelations along those lines.

| 'Don't Be Cruel: The Story of Bill Black' New Book for 2020: News update that Danish super-fan Henrik Knudsen is working on a new book about Elvis' first 'Blue Moon Boys' bassist Bill Black. After quitting Elvis' band in 1957 he had a successful solo-career with The Bill Black Combo. The working title for this project is 'Don't Be Cruel - The Story of Bill Black'. Bill Black's brother, Johnny Black, is contributing to the project, which will be published by the Memphis Mansion label.
More news when we have it, a release date has not been decided.

Shrinking QAnon to Merge with Elvis Conspiracy Theory: A satire for our times from The New Yorker, Borowitz Report ...
.. QAnon, which has hemorrhaged supporters since Inauguration Day, has announced that it is merging with the conspiracy theory that claims Elvis Presley is still alive.
The announcement, made at a press conference in a parking lot across the street from Graceland, Presley’s longtime home, was seen as a bid to prevent QAnon from vanishing altogether.
The overture to the Elvis conspiracy theorists came after QAnon proposed a similar merger with the National Rifle Association, which declined, citing difficulties of its own.
At the press conference, Harland Dorrinson, a QAnon spokesman, was upbeat about the new joint venture, which will be known as QElvis.
“We are proud to be joining forces with the Elvis conspiracy |

theory, which has been going strong ever since that fateful day in 1977 when Elvis didn’t die,” Dorrinson said.
Tracy Klugian, representing the Elvis theorists, denied that there had been friction between the two groups as they hammered out the merger, and dispelled rumors that the Elvis faction had attempted to downplay the QAnon faction’s obsession with cannibals.
“Absolutely untrue,” Klugian said. “Every member of QElvis is committed to one simple truth: that Elvis is still alive, and that his death was faked by George Soros and Hillary Clinton.”

(Interview) Brandon Yip (author of Elvis Presley “All Shook Up” in Canada): Elvis only performed outside the USA on five occasions – all shows in Canada in 1957. Canadian born and bred writer and author, Brandon Yip, formed an obsession about Elvis’ Canadian concerts.
Dissatisfied with the information he had read about the shows, particularly Elvis’ final Canadian performance in Vancouver, Brandon went in search of more information, tracking down and interviewing people who were lucky enough to see Elvis “live” in Canada.
The result of his research is his new book, Elvis Presley “All Shook Up” in Canada. It includes first-hand accounts by fans and legendary Canadian radio DJ, Red Robinson.
Brandon recently took time out to talk with EIN’s Nigel Patterson about his book and what he found.

Baz Luhrmann praises Austin Butler’s ability to embody ELVIS: Legendary performer Elvis Presley has never been given the proper biopic treatment and with such runaway successes as Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman filling cinema seats and garnering Academy Awards, it is about time he did.
Australian Director Baz Luhrmann (The Great Gatsby) stepped up to the challenge to do the King justice, but the biggest issue with telling Elvis’ story was always going to be casting the correct actor to play the versatile star.
Thankfully Luhrmann believes he found the perfect on-screen Elvis in former Disney star Austin Butler. He explained: “I knew I couldn’t make this film if the casting wasn’t absolutely right. We searched thoroughly for an actor with the ability to evoke the singular natural |

movement and vocal qualities of this peerless star [Elvis], but also the inner vulnerability of the artist.”
Touching upon the arrival of Butler, Luhrmann said: “I had heard about Austin Butler from his stand-out role opposite Denzel Washington in The Iceman Cometh on Broadway. Through a journey of extensive screen testing and music and performance workshops, I knew unequivocally that I had found someone who could embody the spirit of one of the world’s most iconic musical figures.”
Despite being a relative newcomer to cinema, he was in Tarantino's Award winning Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Butler has already gained quite the fan in Luhrmann.

What was it like being an Elvis fan in the 50s?: Even after decades, Elvis Presley - known to many as the King of Rock & Roll, or simply "The King" - still has a profound impact on popular culture as we know it today. His ascent into superstardom in the 1950s was one that America had never seen of before, and one that was only made possible by his fervently devoted fans.
Amidst the norms of conservative etiquette and manners, Elvis fans threw away their inhibitions to scream and dance freely, mass buy records, and turn up the energy at sold-out shows in a way no one had ever seen before.
Fans of Elvis were arguably one of the first iterations of what we see as typical youthful fandom behavior today. But as with anything new and unfamiliar, there was backlash and dark sides.
For every unforgettable concert, there was a ruthless review condemning Elvis and his fans for moral corruption and delinquency. And for every time a mob of fans crowded tore his clothes off, there was probably an unsuspecting fan who fell prey to Elvis' own advances.
Here's what it was really like to be an Elvis Presley fan in the 1950s.
According to Andrew Solt in an interview for EPE, a post-World War II, 1950s America had a sleepy character. Without war looming over everyone's head, much of society had settled down calmly. But for some, calm also means boring. This seemed to be especially true for middle-class teenagers who had been too young during the war to appreciate the serenity of their lives in the 1950s. When Elvis burst onto the scene, American teens were the first to latch on to who they saw as a breath of fresh air, a symbol of the non-traditional.

As suggested by Solt, the rock & roll star represented their sense of "brewing rebellion."
As it is with many artists, huge fame often comes with equally strong criticism. Fans of Elvis in the 1950s likely had to deal with those around them, especially older adults, vehemently disapproving of the controversial rock & roll star.
While his fans would scream and faint at the sight of his shaking hips, others were horrified at the vulgarity. According to Rolling Stone, churches and religious organizations condemned his moves as lewd and protested the corruption of the youth. Parents saw him and rock & roll as instigators of disobedience and "juvenile delinquency."

Future stars in the Elvis fan club: Being a fan of Elvis in the 1950s would have put you among some notable company. Countless musical legends have mentioned being a fan of Elvis, often citing him as one of the main reasons they got into music.
Cher, at the age of 11-years-old, went to an Elvis show as her very first concert, a fact that was presented at the "Icons: The Influence of Elvis Exhibit" (via Moody Blue). "Even at that age he made me realize the tremendous effect a performer could have on an audience," she has said.
Her mother used to take her to Elvis concerts, "It was so exciting and I remember that all the girls were standing up screaming on their chairs and I hadn't gotten to that point yet. I wasn't sure

what that whole thing was, but I said to my mom, 'Can we stand up on our chairs and scream?' My mom said, 'Sure let's do that'. I was screaming for him before I even knew why I was screaming for him."
She was in great company with other Elvis fans and future music sensations, such as The Quarrymen.

Phil Spector Dead Aged 81: Phil Spector the massively influential music producer whose “Wall of Sound” productions revolutionized the way pop music was recorded in the sixties, died Saturday at the age of 81.
Spector’s life was tumultuous and ultimately tragic as his groundbreaking studio accomplishments were overshadowed by his 2009 conviction for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson.
At the height of his career he was hailed as the first person to see the potential of the recording studio as an instrument in itself. The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson described him as the most influential music producer he knew. (Right: In the studio with Darlene Love and Cher)
Phil Spector always recorded using LA's "Wrecking Crew" musicians who were in effect "The Beach Boys" on Brian Wilson's major recordings.
Similarly it was the "Wrecking Crew" who backed ELVIS on his NBC TV "68 Comeback Special" while many of the same musicians ie super-drummer Hal Blaine worked on countless Elvis sessions.

Phil Spector began recording on the West Coast in L.A.’s Gold Star Studios where soon produced four Top 10 hits in 1963: the Crystals’ “Da Doo Ron Ron”, “Then He Kissed Me”, “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” and greatest of all The Ronettes’ “Be My Baby”.
He had twenty Top 40 hits between 1961 and 1965. Co-Produced The Beatles “Let It Be” with his most stunning achievements The Righteous Brothers “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” which sold over 2 million copies and became another Number One hit plus Ike and Tina Turner's “River Deep – Mountain High”.
John Lennon called him the greatest music producer of all time, (with him he produced the song “Imagine”) but Spector’s inspirational career came to an end in the late 1970s.
Phil Spector had a few ELVIS connections. Being a friend of composer "Doc Pomus" Spector produced some demos for Elvis including the Pot Luck track 'Night Rider'.
Darlene Love (of The Blossoms) was also a lead singer for Spector. She commented, "Both were important men in my musical life. Elvis looked like something that God just created, just for us - while the other proved himself to be a jackass."
Phil Spector was a huge fan of Elvis and noted in an interview, "Elvis is sensational. He can do anything with his voice. He

can sing anything you want him to, anyway you tell him. Elvis is the unquestionable King of Rock n' Roll".
In an interesting sidenote Phil Spector also introduced Elvis to his personal bodyguard Mike Stone who was similarly interested in martial arts. Soon after this Mike Stone would become Priscilla's Karate instructor and that particular affair would help lead to Elvis and Priscilla's divorce in 1973.
Phil Spector knew that his studio magnificence was tempered by the lows of his depression and what he described as the demons inside him.
"I'm probably relatively insane" he told the UK Daily Telegraph in 2003 just before he murdered actress Lana Clarkson. "I'm my own worst enemy."
He needed serious help and therapy, he never got what he needed. After the 2009 murder trial he was sentenced to 19 years to life - Spector died in prison due to Covid19 complications.

(Book Review) Inventing Elvis – An American Icon in a Cold War World (Mathias Haeussler): The latest academic examination of the Elvis Presley story explores his relationship in the context of a rising trans-national youth culture and Cold War politics. Assistant Professor Mathias Haeussler has written a powerful account of how Elvis’ role in each of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s was an evolutionary one, reflecting the broader socio-cultural and political changes of each decade.
The subject matter is diverse, ranging from Elvis’ image as a threat to the morals of youth in the 1950s (in a sense mirroring the threat of communism), to the cultural imperialism reflected his 1960s movies (while American culture and political influence was spreading globally), and Elvis’ decline in the 1970s (at a time when America was reeling from its own excesses including the disastrous Vietnam War).

Tom Jones Talks Elvis: If there is one performer who loves to relate their tales of time with Elvis it is Tom Jones. This season Tom Jones is a judge on the UK "The Voice" TV show.
Recently Sir Tom revealed to UK viewers that Elvis sang his own ballad back to him.
Another Voice UK judge Olly Murs probed Jones about his decade-spanning career and meeting with Elvis Presley.
Olly asked: “Tom, was there anyone you were nervous singing with?”
“Well, Elvis Presley I sang with - and I was excited. Well, I mean Elvis was the one of course, I met him in LA in 1965 with a ballad out called With These Hands,” Sir Tom recalled.
“And he was coming towards me and he was singing ‘With these hands, I will cling to you’ - You know, it was Elvis Presley with his hand out, do you know what I mean?
“I went, ‘If the boys back home could see me know?’ Elvis is singing my song back to me.”
Sir Tom even pretended to be Elvis as he snag snippets of With These Hands.
His revelation left the UK judges stunned and viewers at home also wanting to hear more about Sir Tom’s relationship with Elvis.
Later in the show, Olly asked Sir Tom to sing With These Hands and while the judge was initially reluctant, he eventually gave in.
Viewers at home were overcome with emotion as they listened to Sir Tom give an impromptu performance.

Elvis used the bible and then gave it to Elvis’ Aunt Nash, in early 1965 during one of their many bible discussions. Any time that Aunt Nash was around Elvis would often take her upstairs to his bedroom, wrap her in a blanket and they would have in-depth conversations about the bible. This, now classic, is totally sold out for many years. Now we have restored this recording again from scratch. In 2020 we obtained two quality tapes of other NYC concerts from June 10th Evening and June 11th, Afternoon.

We are fully aware that the June 10th Evening show was released several times officially by RCA from the professional multi-track tapes. Lisa Marie Sells Out of the UK: Lisa Marie Presley has finally sold her manor house in East Sussex for £3.35 (US$4.57) million.
Elvis’ only child, 52, bought Coes Hall in Rotherfield in 2010 with then husband Michael Lockwood. (photo right)
When they split in 2016, she put it up for sale but despite its indoor pool and 50 acres of land she found no one was interested.
Back in 2010 Lisa Marie said, "I had to leave LA. It was like living in a goldfish bowl. I had tour buses driving past our house, looking in like we were on show, and celebrities hanging out wherever we went.
I have taken to country life in the UK and love all aspects of living here. And the people who live here are so |

1970 rehearsal cds was expensive at £180 but this set at £111 (US$240) for a 200-page book (not totally on Elvis) plus two 1976 soundboard concerts (with audio doco) seems ludicrous. Atlanta December 1976 features a very poor piano-heavy audio mix.
Hopefully FTD see reason and release the soundboards as a CD- double-pack after this limited edition sells-out -

Las Vegas drive-in’s Birthday Movie homage to Elvis: The Las Vegas Sun reported on the Snappy Burger boutique drive-in theater Elvis movie marathon
Snappy Burger boutique drive-in theater launched an Elvis movie marathon last week set to culminate on Friday, Elvis' 86th birthday, with a screening of, of course, “Viva Las Vegas.”
Presley made 30 movies from 1956 to 1969 and Snappy showed them all back to back.
The hardest of the core those who stayed for every single film without leaving their cars for any, yes any, reason would be rewarded with a special certificate from the Graceland-recognized local Elvis fan club and free Snappy food for a year.
Bob Pinch, 86, and his companion Joyce Dickerson, 83, weren’t there as competitors, just on a date.
Pinch noted that he was stationed with the Army in Germany at the same time as Presley, but they didn’t

cross paths. They’re huge fans of Presley’s music. “Their” song is “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” Dickerson sings it for Pinch at karaoke night.
Snappy proprietor Jon Basso, 55, is living a dream with his drive-in. “I told my wife, ‘I’m gonna own a movie theater before I die,’” he said. She told him to make it clever and profitable, so that’s what he set out to do.
And he’s tying in his own Elvis affection with the movie marathon. As a young fan growing up in Phoenix, Basso would dress up in white jumpsuit garb and go cruising with his buddies to celebrate the King.
If you missed the marathon Basso plans to do it again for the anniversary of Elvis’ death in August.

Online historians’ forum marking Elvis’ 86th Birthday – all Elvis fans invited: Mathias Haeussler (author of Inventing Elvis: An American Icon in a Cold War World), is convening a historians' roundtable on YouTube to mark the occasion of Elvis's 86th birthday on Friday 8 Jan. The basic idea is to discuss Elvis's significance and importance from the viewpoint of "professional"/academic historians, both during his lifetime and today.
The participants were Michael Bertrand (Race, Rock , And Elvis), Bertel Nygaard and Mathias Haeussler.

Elvis Presley’s Performance Was So Sexy Americans Burned and Hanged His Effigy in Protest: Elvis Presley, known as the King of Rock and Roll, is still considered an iconic figure today. He and his music have inspired many musicians since he became famous in the mid-1950s. During the time he was famous, teens everywhere were in a frenzy over the hip-swinging Presley. However, parents weren’t impressed and soon became concerned for their children. History.com reported that Presley was seen as so sexy that people burned and hanged his effigy after one of his performances. Presley was born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, grew up in poverty and when Presley was a teenager, the family moved to Memphis. There he recorded an acetate at Sun Records and after listening to it, producer Sam Phillips eventually gave him a contract. Presley performed blues and country songs, rocknroll, gospel and so much more.
Presley already has a flashy personality, and he always liked to wear outlandish colored clothing combinations. Still, his musical personality became more developed when he began performing blues singer Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup’s song “That’s All Right Mama.” By 1955, Presley had started to gain a substantial following in the South. This same year, Presley’s management was handed over to Colonel Tom Parker who negotiated a contract with the larger RCA label. After this, Presley’s career took off. His debut album topped Billboard’s album chart in 1956, and his single, “Heartbreak Hotel” sold more than one million copies.

In the Summer of 1956, Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, arranged a deal to make three appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show for a fee of $50,000. Ed Sullivan considered his television show to be family-oriented. So he initially said he would not book Presley because of his hip-swiveling and lip curling. Sullivan changed his mind after Steve Allen hosted Presley on his show in July 1956, and his rating skyrocketed past Sullivan’s. Presley’s first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show happened in September 1956. Sixty million people tuned in, which was more than 80 percent of the TV audience at the time. After his second appearance on the show in October, people in Nashville and St. Louis were angry by his sexy performance. They were worried rock music would corrupt teenagers. So, they hanged and burned Presley’s effigy.

'Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony' Watch live: Happy Birthday, Elvis! EPE plus a very few Elvis fans gathered at Graceland to celebrate Elvis' birthday with three days of social-distanced events and, of course, Birthday cake.
The 'Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony' was earlier today at Graceland with reserved but free admission.
Due to mask-wearing and social-distancing, as well as wet windy weather, the ceremony and the birthday cake cutting was basically a non-event.
This year, Elvis decided to stay upstairs and watch from his bedroom window. You can watch the REPLAY ceremony - with nothing to really see, it runs 10 minutes

Buzzy Forbess has passed away: EIN has heard the sad news that Elvis’ high school close friend, Buzzy Forbess, has passed away.
Elvis and Buzzy were good friends at Humes High and Elvis’ early days at Sun.

In his freshman year of high school Elvis teamed up with three friends, Buzzy Forbess, Paul Dougher and Farley Guy, to start a lawn business. With a push lawn mower that his father, Vernon, purchased for him, and a few sickles, Elvis and his team mowed yards at the cost of $4.00 per yard.
Buzzy noted that "In the early days Elvis didn’t have the wiggle and what-have-you then but some things about Elvis never changed. But when Elvis started singing he’d always affect people just with his voice and singing."
Over the years Buzzy was interviewed in various newspaper, magazine and Elvis television documentary specials, contributed to several books and helped inspire an upcoming book about Elvis’ appearance at the Grand Ole Opry.

Brand New Elvis Army Footage: A lovely surprise for New Year as Chicago Film Archives uploads 18 minutes of new footage of Elvis entering the army.
The quality is excellent and you can see the apprehension on Elvis' face as he heads to a very uncertain future.
Described as, "Singer Elvis Presley is processed into the Army on March 24, 1958 at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. He talks to reporters, fills out paperwork, and gets a physical examination. Elvis' parents, Vernon and Gladys Presley, are seen briefly, looking dour. The day was dubbed "black Monday" for his fans by the press.
The singer entered regular Army service as a private, rather than joining Special Services, in which he would have entertained troops."

Decades After His Death, The Estate Of Elvis Presley Is Still Making A TON Of Money: January 2021, Elvis has been dead for 43 years and he is STILL making a TON of money. Sure, the coronavirus pandemic has slowed down the tourist traffic to Graceland, his former home turned museum devoted to all things Elvis. In a typical year, Graceland brings in more than $10 million of Elvis' estate's earnings. However, 2020, is anything but typical in all ways. Graceland was closed for two months due to Covid-19 and is now operating at reduced capacity. That said, the King of Rock and Roll is the fifth highest-paid celebrity of the year with $23 million in earnings. That's pretty incredible considering it's been more than four decades since Elvis left the building for the last time.
Elvis' earnings from beyond the grave come from two main sources, album sales and Graceland. Despite album sales that are still surprisingly good (even when compared to living artists), Graceland still brings in the bulk of his post-death income. |

Elvis sells more than one million albums per year – yes, albums. Elvis is timeless and iconic but the bulk of his fan base is collecting retirement benefits and still playing vinyl albums – something they have in common with hipsters. And isn't Elvis in a way the original hipster? However, Elvis is not, as of yet at least, trending on Spotify, so with no downloading of his music, we expect Elvis' income to wane a bit over the coming years as his biggest fans are, quite literally, dying off (and hopefully getting to meet their idol in the afterlife).
Elvis also earns royalties from concerts and old TV appearances, DVD sales, and the royalties from his movies being shown on television. Elvis' estate has been pretty savvy at pivoting with the times over the years, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to wake up at some point in the near future with a "Release Radar" email from Spotify announcing some all-new Elvis feature. And then there's always the hologram tour that could happen when we get Covid-19 under control and can have concerts and festivals again.

Tom Hanks shows off new look for upcoming Elvis biopic: Tom Hanks, is that you? The 64-year-old actor was a virtual guest on Tuesday's The Graham Norton Show, and admitted that he's not thrilled with the latest hairstyle he's rocking to play Elvis' manager, Col Parker, in Baz Luhrmann's upcoming biopic about the King of Rock and Roll. For the part, Hanks currently has a completely bald head with the exception of a few patches of hair on the sides.
"Here, let me show you the horrible haircut I have to have in order to portray Col Tom Parker. Check out this horrible — can you see that?" Hanks told the host via video from Australia, where the movie is being filmed.
"Look at that thing!" Hanks quipped, "I just scared the children. I want to apologize for showing that."

"Evidently, that's my gig now, so I only play real people in show business," the Oscar winner replied.
To get a better idea of the infamous character, Hanks previously had dinner with Priscilla Presley.
"He was both a genius and a scoundrel," Hanks said of Parker, "He was a very disciplined man, but also a guy who you might want to check your wallet to make sure you still have all those fives and 10s."
Hanks had dinner with Priscilla in the hopes of getting a better take on the man he was playing. Hanks said he was taken aback by her reaction.
"I was expecting to hear stories about the distrust she had for 'Colonel Tom' Parker over these many years, but she said, 'No. He was a wonderful man, and I wish he was alive today. He took really great care of us. He was a scoundrel in his way,"

Composer Geoff Stephens Dead aged 86: British composer Geoff Stephens died December 24 aged 86. A prolific songwriter Elvis recorded his songs, 'Heart Of Rome', 'This Is Our Dance', and 'Sylvia', hardly Elvis' best work.
Geoff Stephens had major chart hits in the UK and worldwide, often collaborating with others.
Hits included the 1966 #1 'Winchester Cathedral', 'The Crying Game', 'There's a Kind of Hush' (Carpenters, Herman's Hermits), David Soul's #1 'Silver Lady' and many others.
His songs for Elvis were Freddy Bienstock supplied and Geoff Stephens realised that Elvis had little interest in them.
He told Ken Sharp for 'Writing for The King', "It was a great feeling to know that Elvis had recorded some of my songs and he performed them well enough. But there was a spark missing somehow.
It sounded as though they were just fulfilling record company demands without giving a great deal of thought to the recordings. I'm not sure Elvis connected with any of my songs. From what I have heard and read, Elvis did whatever The Colonel asked without questioning."

'From Memphis to Taipeh': The book 'From Memphis to Taipei - A Reference Guide to the Colorful Magic of Elvis' Asian Vinyl' by Dick Dekker ('Bootleg Elvis' book) and Ferry Van Der Werf should be published next month, January 2021. The limited print run is 750 copies worldwide.
It was in the late 1950s that the first Asian records featuring Elvis' music were released. Hundreds of records followed afterwards many with beautiful covers in different variations and with beautifully coloured vinyl. However no collector's guide to Elvis' Asian vinyl has ever been published. There has never even been an information booklet on these Elvis albums.
So this new book is the very first reference guide to Elvis' vinyl releases in Asia.
This volume examinest the 10" and 12" vinyl releases from six major Asian countries: Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.
In the book fans can discover where, why and for whom these records were made. And there were plenty of Elvis fans.
The cover images and label designs are presented in large format so you can check the design and often the interesting spelling mistakes.

David Bowie’s Christmas impression of Elvis: In a neat coincidence David Bowie and Elvis have the same birthday, January 8th.
Bowie was a keen fan of Elvis, performed Elvis songs in concert and said of Elvis, “Elvis was a major hero of mine. And I was probably stupid enough to believe that having the same birthday as him actually meant something."
David Bowie's first wife Angie said that Bowie could do a “devastating impersonation of Elvis".
So back in 2013 it was no surprise when David Bowie delivered his own Christmas message from the USA in character as Elvis, including the cool, Thank-You-Very-Much.
Bowie joked, "Hello everybody this is David Bowie making a telephone call from the US of A. At this time of the year I can’t help but remember my British-ness and all the jolly British folk, so here’s to you and have yourselves a Merry Little Christmas and a Happy New Year, “Thank you very much.”!

Paul McCartney, "Elvis was the Coolest Person I Ever Met": Discounting his third wife Nancy Shevell, Paul McCartney recently revealed that thinks ELVIS was the 'Coolest Person' he had ever met.
The Beatles and Elvis only ever met once on 27th August 1965 sadly under mutual agreement that no photos or recordings would be made.
In a new interview on The Adam Buxton Podcast, Paul McCartney was asked to name the coolest person he ever met.
He replied, "My wife Nancy she is very cool, however speaking like that if I had to choose I’d have to do Elvis. I met Elvis Presley who was darn cool, this was pre his Las Vegas and the rhinestone suit period, this was just sort of Beverly Hills sixties. And he was really cool."
Other than calling him super-cool, McCartney also explained about Elvis’ influence on The Beatles music and not only at the start. After

they stopped touring it was Elvis who helped inspire their iconic 'Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band'. McCartney said, "We came back after touring and we started to think, ‘What can we do, we don’t want to tour again’. We heard that Elvis Presley had sent his gold-plated Cadillac out on tour. He didn’t go with it, he just sent it out. And people would flock to see Elvis’ Cadillac, and then it would go to the next town and those people would flock. So we thought, ‘That is brilliant! Only Elvis could have thought of that.’ We said, ‘Well, what we should do is, we should make a killer record and that can do the touring for us.’ So that’s what creating Sgt. Pepper was all about.

Elvis and Linda Thompson At Christmas: It is close to fifty years ago that Elvis started dating Linda Thompson. This week Linda, now 70, has shared some of her Graceland Christmas photos via instagram.
She commented that..
"This is a photo of our first Christmas together, and he had given me this coat, along with a beautiful platinum and diamond ring that I found in the coat pocket at his urging. He had taken the diamond from one of his rings and had it mounted in the beautiful ballerina ring he had designed & made for me. Christmas was his very favorite time of year… Because he was so inordinately generous, and he derived so much joy in giving to others. Elvis was so incredibly generous that we called him the real Santa Claus. Of course Christmas always reminds me of Elvis’s generous spirit and sensitivity to this special time of year."

A Tribute to William Speer: In July 1955 a 20 year old Elvis Presley arrived at Memphis photographer William Speer's doorstep. He had been sent by his manager Bob Neal to have some photos taken that could be used in the promotion of the rising star.
The session produced eleven portrait shots that have obtained iconic status..
"Elvis had an electric charge, an animal magnetism", William Speer noted.

Elvis' Graceland Birthday Celebrations: Graceland will be celebrating Elvis' 86th birthday on January 7-9, 2021, with three days of events - including the annual Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony on January 8, a Birthday Celebration “Elvis Unplugged” Concert featuring singer and musician Dean Z, exclusive tours and more. Events will be held in accordance with the Shelby County Health Department COVID-19 protocols will apply with socially distanced seating at events.
Festivities begin on January 7 with a dinner and a movie at the Guest House, featuring the fan favorite movie “Blue Hawaii.” Later that evening “Gates of Graceland” Host Tom Brown and Graceland’s VP of Archives and Exhibits Angie Marchese, will lead an exclusive, after-hours tour of Graceland Mansion. This one-of-a-kind experience will provide a glimpse of items not seen on regular tours.
On Elvis’ birthday January 8, the annual Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony will take place in the Graceland Soundstage in Elvis Presley’s Memphis.

A 4CD collection presenting the definitive chronicle of Elvis' 1970 marathon sessions with the "Nashville Cats".
Recorded live in RCA's Studio B over the course of an epic five day run in June 1970 now, for the first time, the sessions are presented in pristine audio, newly mixed by acclaimed engineer Matt Ross-Spang without the added overdubs appearing on earlier releases.
Elvis’ 1970 Nashville session was very different from the previous Memphis sessions or even Elvis’ later sessions. Nashville was a real mix of Elvis recording RCA supplied demos along with one-take spontaneous favourites Elvis threw into the mix.
As Elvis noted, "It don't take much to get these guys going, boy, I'll tell you…. Just give them a "well..." and they're gone. That's what I call 'Sittin' on ready".

News regarding the new REX MARTIN DVDs: EIN has been contacted by several readers wanting us to confirm the authenticity of these new 'Rex Martin' dvd releases.
Back in August 2013 EIN reported the sad burglary of Rex Martin's home just after he died. At the time we noted,"After Rex died, someone entered Rex's home and removed some personal items as well as the core of Rex's Elvis Collection. Since there was no sign of a break-in, it is believed that this person or persons had access to a key to the property. It is also evident that whoever did this had inside knowledge as to what Rex's rare Elvis Collection consisted of, where it was stored and where he kept his personal belongings.
Anyone seeing Rex Martin items offered especially SUPER 8 for sale PLEASE contact Rex Martin's family via his website Moments In Time."
Sadly EIN cannot confirm where these tapes have come from, although super-fan photographer Phil Gelormine has commented that it was he that filmed Elvis' College Park concert, NOT Rex Martin. "I would like to find a guy who is falsely claiming that these are all from the Super 8 reels of Rex Martin. Many of the shows advertised I have attended but I haven’t seen these two DVDs yet but I can unequivocally tell you that the College Park footage is mine and I have the original reel to prove it. The underground Elvis market is very devious and I have been stolen from before but as long as I have breath in me, I will seek credit, compensation and an apology."
The Bootleg Elvis world is sometimes a worrying place. Buyer Beware.

'Elvis and Nixon' 50th Anniv New Graceland Exhibit: Graceland has opened a new exhibit to commemorate Elvis' meeting with President Nixon 50 years ago on December 21, 1970.
Graceland unveiled the new pop-up exhibit, among the artifacts displayed are the five-page handwritten letter from Elvis to Nixon, the outfit Elvis wore to the Oval Office, the Presidential cufflinks given to him as a gift from the President and the badge presented to him.
Elvis was an enthusiastic collector of police badges and the owner of dozens from departments and agencies from all over the United States. But there was one badge that he really wanted: a badge from the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. So, in December of 1970 he flew from Memphis to Washington, D.C. with his friend Jerry Schilling to hand deliver a letter he wrote while on the plane, to President Nixon at the White House. In the letter he offered his services in the war on drugs, as a “Federal Agent at Large.”

Elvis' arrival at the White House gates on December 21, 1970 proved effective. Following some confusion from the Secret Service and White House staff, after a few hours he had the meeting with President Nixon, gifted him with a Colt .45 pistol and asked for the badge he so wanted to own. Nixon obliged, they had their photograph taken, and the next day Elvis returned to Graceland.
The official photo of this unusual event has become the most requested in the history of the National Archives.

Thomas, Neil Diamond, Willie Nelson, Wilson Pickett, The Gentrys, Sandy Posey, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Carla Thomas, and Bobby Womack..... just to name a few.
There are many fascinating accounts in the book, including the scandal caused by Petula Clark touching Harry Belafonte on national television and how Ms Clark and her husband erased (nearly) all the takes of the scene.

Rex Martin (Worldwide Elvis News) exclusive EIN Interview: It was in 2008, that EIN tracked down the ellusive Rex Martin who had been keeping away from the Elvis scene for quite a few years. Nigel Patterson spent several hours talking with Rex Martin publisher of the legendary publication, the Worldwide Elvis News Service Weekly.
The result was a fascinating multi-part interview. In Part 1 Rex speaks about his early years, becoming an Elvis fan, why he started the fondly remembered weekly, his trips to the US and what he has been doing since he ceased publishing the Weekly in 1978.
For those not familar with Rex's publications, the "Weekly" revolutionised how fans right around the world received their Elvis news while his Elvis booklets (see opposite) offered well researched and rare material for readers to enjoy. The home videos he managed to film of Elvis would impress any fan.

(Book Review) Destined to Die Young (Sally Hoedel): Could Elvis’ death at the young age of 42 have been avoided? This question is answered in Sally Hoedel’s thought provoking book, Destined to Die Young.
The book is the result of exhaustive research by the author who found a key factor which was to affect Elvis throughout his life – one which meant that regardless of his diet and overuse of prescription medication, he was destined to die young. The narrative is full and colorful, and its depth of detail reflects the extent of research undertaken by the author.
In her introduction, the author establishes an important context for Elvis’ longevity (or lack of longevity) and health issues, this being his family tree.... Hoedel identifies the genetic disorder as Antitrypsin Deficiency, a condition which can result in lung and/or liver disease. In this respect, her discussion of the life and death of Gladys Presley is thought provoking..

Charley Pride country superstar dead: In very sad news Charley Pride, the first black country-music superstar, died Saturday and tragically of complications from COVID-19. He was 86.
The trailblazer charted 29 #1 hits and another 21 Top 10 singles between the 1960s and 1980s, including "Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone" and "Mountain of Love."
Pride enjoyed his greatest success in the 1970s, becoming the best-selling performer for RCA Records after Elvis Presley with over 70 million records sold..
His final performance was on Nov. 11, when he received the Country Music Association's Lifetime Achievement Award at Nashville's Music City Center. He brought down the house with his hit "Kiss An Angel Good Mornin'."
One of 11 children born to a sharecropper in Sledge, Mississippi, Pride served in the Army, worked at a Missouri smelting plant, and tried several times to break into big-league baseball before moving to Nashville in 1963.
He recorded demo tapes soon afterward, but it was years before Chet Atkins signed him to a contract with RCA. |

Pride won three 1972 Grammys for a gospel single and a 1973 Grammy for best male country vocal performance.
In 2000, he became the first black performer elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame.
In 1967, Pride became the first black performer to appear at the Grand Ole Opry in more than a quarter century.
Country music legend Dolly Parton noted, "I'm so heartbroken that one of my dearest and oldest friends, Charley Pride, has passed away. It's even worse to know that he passed away from COVID-19. What a horrible, horrible virus. Charley, we will always love you."
Elvis and Charley Pride were friends and Elvis not only introduced him when Pride attended his shows but also sangs lines from his songs 'Kaw Liga' (a #3 in 1969) and 1968's 'The Easy Part's Over'.
Pride said of his RCA co-star Elvis, "We used to play the Houston Livestock Show. In fact, I went to two of Elvis' openings. The third opening I went to with him was 1971. That year, I won male vocalist and entertainer of the year. I was out in the audience.
Elvis said, ladies and gentleman, out in the audience is a (singing) "The Easy Part's Over now", the line in one of my singles - and he says, Charley Pride. So I waved and everything, and he invited us all up to the suites. Then I got up there, Lulu, and I walked all the way around all those 15 suites up there. I said, boy, this is a long way from picking cotton beside my dad...

(Book Review) Beyond the Stars: My Seven Year Journey with Elvis Presley (Grace Pearl): Do our souls survive our mortal being? Can we communicate with those who have crossed over? Some believe, others don’t. EIN’s Nigel Patterson approached this new book by psychic-medium, Grace Pearl, with an open mind.

1970 rehearsal cds was expensive at £180 but this set at £111 (US$240) for a 200-page book (not totally on Elvis) plus two 1976 soundboard concerts (with audio doco) seems ludicrous.
For super-keen Elvis fans who purchased the book when it was first released, this seems an unfair deal to have to buy it all again just for the 1976 soundboards.
Hopefully FTD see reason and release the soundboards as a separate double-pack after this limited edition package sells-out

NOV 20 - 'From Elvis In Nashville' OUT NOW: Great news as Elvis' 2020 major release 'From Elvis In Nashville' is out now, even delivered by the Australian postman at 9am this morning. (Despite rumours the release would be delayed in Australia).
And it is an absolute gem, capturing Elvis creating some truly magnificent Nashville magic. While these Marathon Sessions have often been compared unfavourably with the life-changing 1969 Memphis Sessions Elvis and his core musicians work truly hard as the camarderie between them inspire some of Elvis' best work of the 70s.

The shame is that the core soul of the original recordings of Elvis and the Nashville Cats would often be hidden by the later orchestral overdubs or clean ups.
As the publicity says, "these sessions are presented in pristine audio, newly mixed by acclaimed engineer Matt Ross-Spang without the added overdubs of earlier releases - in other words how Elvis would sound if you were in the room with him" and it is right.
There are delights to discover in the previously unreleased Undubbed Masters such as I've Lost You, The Sound Of Your Cry, The Fool, It's Your Baby You Rock It, Stranger In The Crowd, Mary In The Morning, Just Pretend, even Bridge Over Troubled Water never before officially released as Undubbed but with harmony vocal.
While others such as I Really Don't Want To Know,The Next Step Is Love, Funny How Time Slips Away, I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water, even Only Believe have a new "fuller" more soulful feel courtesy of the Matt Ross-Spang new audio mixes.
The 28 booklet is packed full of information plus two detailed articles, four pages by Ernst Jorgensen on the session themselves plus an interesting 7-page essay by Nashville author David Cantwell explaining how the musicians all came together to create such important music. |

Ernst writes, "What Elvis called "sitting ready" essentially meant that he expected the musicians share his inspired moments and instantly fall in with whatever he began singing.... Spontaneity was key, and to Elvis, it was always about the feel, and not about perfection."
A core thread is that it was the RCA Range & Hill supplied material that let the overall quality drop and plenty of those tracks never even get mentioned in Ernst's session essay.
Like the STAX 2013 deluxe SONY release and 'Way Down In The Jungle Room' once again it is Elvis' pure recordings that prove he was still a force to be reckoned with after the musical renaissance of the 1969 Chips Moman Sessions.

As there was no official publicity portrait session for the movie, the original six-track EP featured a cover shot from Girl Happy. Around the same time as the ECEG EP release, "See The USA The Elvis Way" EP (based on the ECEG EP art design) was released exclusively in Australia and New Zealand. For this 2-LP limited edition, we have mirrored this rare design that included a publicity portrait from Spinout. Elvis recorded the songs on september 28 and 29, 1966.
Includes Bonus Songs 'Come What May' and 'Fools Fall in Love' plus alternate takes and instrumentals.

(Book Review) From Elvis in Memphis (Eric Wolfson): The 150th volume in the popular Bloomsbury Academic 33 1/3 series of music history and criticism books is Eric Wolfson’s From Elvis in Memphis (due out on 12 November).

UPDATED- 'Elvis: St Louis & Spokane 1976' FTD In-Depth Review: 1976 is not an easy Elvis concert year to review. There were no major set-list changes, no dramatic "emotional roller-coaster" of 1974 and no high-flying "Huntsville" 1975 excitements.
Released as a 2-CD 5” digi-pak, this new FTD set features Elvis at the Kiel Auditorium on March 22 1976 and The Coliseum on April 27 1976.
Both shows were "Closing Nights" of these short 1976 tours where Elvis would often go that little bit further for his loving fans.
Larrie Londin played drums with the TCB band on the March 1976 tour so it will be a treat for collectors to get an official release featuring 'A Different Beat' with Larrie Londin playing at St Louis on March 22, 1976.

Folk singer Arlo Guthrie (son of legend Woody Guthrie) tells a truly wonderful life-affirming story of singing Elvis' 'Can't Help Falling In Love With You' at a European folk festival, to 30,000 folk music lovers!
He jokes about choosing a song made popular by 'The King of Folk Singers' Elvis Presley.
Arlo Guthrie teases fellow musician Pete Seeger about him being a core "Folkie" and exactly how Elvis' music fits into the whole equation.

'ELVIS In The 2010s' A Personal Review of the Past Decade: Rather like Elvis’s own career, each decade since Elvis’s death appears to have had a theme or identity of its own. Clearly the late 1970s were difficult for RCA as they struggled to find the right direction with which to take their posthumous releases, and so it was the 1980s that was the decade when the company slowly but surely learned how to look back at Elvis's legacy and start to make some sense of it.
The 1990s were when that reached a peak, with the decades boxed sets, and the Elvis in the 90s series, thus bringing virtually the whole catalogue back into print in a coherent way.
The 2000s were when errors of judgement at retail level started to occur (despite huge successes like Elv1s), but also when FTD came into its own and flourished.
And so what will we make of Elvis releases of the 2010s when we look back on them from the future?

'What was Elvis searching for?' EIN Spotlight: The question is raised – but never answered – in the title of HBO’s recent absorbing, imperfect documentary 'Elvis Presley: The Searcher'.
At the start it seems clear what the teenage Elvis was searching for – an escape from the oblivion of poverty in the American South. Yet his quest was cultural as well as financial.
Later Elvis read obsessively, seeking out such books as The Impersonal Life, Joseph Brenner’s guide to self-discovery and Kahil Gibran’s book of fables, The Prophet. In his copy of Gibran’s tome, Elvis jotted down the line: “A singer can sing his songs but he must have an ear to receive the song”.
So what exactly was Elvis searching for? In this fascinating EIN Spotlight respected author Paul Simpson takes a close look at this all important question which, for some reason, was basically ignored in the recent HBO documentary..

The VINYL Boom: Over 7.6 million vinyl LPs were sold in the USA during the first half of 2018, a 20% increase from the previous year, while in Australia vinyl sales increased by $3 million, the same increase of 20%. In the same period CD sales however dropped by 15%.
Elvis vinyl is still selling very nicely with ‘ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits’ recently in the UK Top ten VINYL charts.

‘ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits’ on GOLD Vinyl: ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits was re-released by Sony Music on GOLD Vinyl on 12 October. UK's Entertainment-Focus have posted this cute review.
... What is there to say about Elvis Presley that hasn’t already been said?
It may be 41 years since the icon died tragically at only 42 years old but his music continues to live on, and likely will forever. It’s actually mind-blowing to think that his music has survived for almost as long as he was alive. In 2002 Sony Music released a new greatest hits collection titled ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits, which dominated charts across the world and sold millions and millions of copies. 16 years on from its original release, ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits has been reissued on 2LP vinyl.
Taking inspiration from the album cover, the release has been pressed on gold vinyl making the whole package feel very special.
Presley was an incredibly prolific artist so getting this collection down to 31 tracks was no easy feat. It also includes the ALLC Junkie XL remix.
What was achieved with ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits though, is a

collection that gives you all the highlights you need from The King’s career to showcase the incredible impact he had on music. The album opens with Heartbreak Hotel and there isn’t a single filler track here.
It’s actually near impossible to pick out highlights across the 2LPs because every single one of these songs is a classic.
Of course no Elvis collection would be complete without Suspicious Minds and that track is near the end of the track listing on the final side.
The release features the artwork from the original 2002 release and it’s a beautiful, high-quality gatefold. I mentioned earlier about the gold vinyl but what I’ve not commented on yet is the sound. The CD version was a little patchy given that the songs were all recorded at different times. It’s not as noticeable on the vinyl release and the quality is crystal clear. The warm crackle of vinyl adds to the overall feel too.
ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits is a must-have release for any Elvis Presley fan. While he had plenty of great songs that aren’t featured here, this collection truly is the definitive one to own. There’s not a single bad song here and it’s lengthy enough to give you value for money. The whole vinyl package is fantastic and it looks as good as it sounds.
They don’t make artists like Elvis anymore and they probably never will again.

UPDATED - Trying To Get To You: The Truth Behind The Elvis And Roy Orbison Show Rumours: For decades there has always been an unsubstantiated rumour that Elvis Presley appeared as a guest on Roy Orbison's TV show on the local station KOSA.
The Roy Orbison website notes that both Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley performed on Roy’s TV show in late 1955.
Respected author Colin Escott wrote in his book Good Rockin’ Tonight about a kinescope of Elvis on the Roy Orbison TV show actually existing.
Some keen Elvis fans have said that they have seen this very kinescope at Elvis Week shows back in the 80s.
But like infamous Pied Piper of Cleveland does this footage really exist and is there any real proof that Elvis did appear on the Roy Orbison TV show?
Shane Brown (author of Reconsider Baby: Elvis: A Listener's Guide) has done an immense amount of investigation and thinks he has found the answer.

Mindi Miller Interview with EIN: Mindi Miller was a working actress when she met Elvis in early 1975. She was interested in karate (she performed all her own movie stunts), exploring spirituality and the Bible and so they had a lot in common.
Mindi Miller and Elvis bonded over their common interests and soon afterwards he asked her to go on tour with him in April 1975.
She stayed friends with Elvis through the years - along with members of the 'Memphis Mafia' - and attended his funeral.

'Marty Lacker: A Life Well-Lived' & Elvis at American Studio's Interview: It was with immense sadness that last month EIN had to report on the death of our great friend - and a true friend to Elvis - Marty Lacker. We will miss him dearly.
Marty is well-known as one of the key members of the Memphis Mafia and also co-Best Man at Elvis' wedding. He was known for both his honesty and being forthright with his opinions. He was the only member of the Memphis Mafia who still watched and commented on recent Elvis News. He had no issue with holding people to account (especially ones who would inflate their importance within Elvis' legacy) and would regularly ask EIN to add his comments or to correct any inaccuracy.
Elvis fans often ask about Marty Lacker's background, how he came to meet Elvis, as well as his involvement in the music industry outside of working for The King.

UPDATED - 'Way Down In The Jungle Room' EIN Review: Released for August 2016 this SONY Legacy pack celebrates the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ last recording sessions which took place in Graceland’s Jungle Room.
The publicity noted the sessions “have been newly mixed by Matt Ross-Spang at Sam Phillips Recording” and “includes both outtakes and in-the-studio dialog, providing a ‘fly-on-the-wall experience’ of what the sessions were like".
Elvis' original 76/77 albums were fairly uninspired collections (bar a few fine singles) and on the original LPs it was almost impossible to glimpse any sign of creative input from Elvis through the syrupy overdubs. It wasn't until the release of FTD’s magnificent ‘The Jungle Room Sessions’ that many fans began to understand the raw emotion, close camaraderie and Elvis’ personal feelings that were revealed by these intimate Graceland sessions.
To produce that same kind of revelation for the 'General Public' would be a very tricky project but that is exactly what the new legacy team has done - and to great effect.

Did Elvis Record 'Tiger Man' At Sun?: A question that has puzzled Elvis fans through the years is whether he actually recorded the song ‘Tiger Man’ during his years at SUN studios.
The basic question is why did Elvis refer to 'Tiger man' several times in concert as “The second song that I ever recorded, not too many people heard it”?
And if Elvis DID record it, then why hasn’t any reference to it at SUN or proof of its existence been found?
Elvis would first perform ‘Tiger Man’ in concert at his first 1969 Las Vegas International season and would continue playing it through the years – usually in a medley with Mystery Train - until his last performance at Saginaw on May 3 1977. He would sing it over 150 times on stage!
The thought that there might be an acetate or undiscovered tape of Elvis at SUN singing ‘Tiger Man’ is a mouth-watering concept - but is it an unlikely fantasy or strong possibility?
