Graceland Three New Exhibits confirmed for 2012: As previously announced on EIN back in August, Graceland will be opening three new special Elvisexhibits in 2012 to commemorate the 35th anniversary year.
These 3 new exhibits will explore various sides of the king.
Elvis on Tour Exhibit
Opens January 5 at Graceland Crossing
Take an in-depth look at "Elvis on Tour," the 1972 Golden Globe award-winning documentary about Elvis’ multi-city tour during April of that year. This limited-time exhibit features artifacts such as the producer’s Golden Globe award, jewelry and stage clothing worn by the king during the concerts, rarely-seen photos, video and more. This exhibit is located at Graceland Crossing.
Elvis...Through His Daughter's Eyes
Opens February 1 as part of the Graceland VIP Tour
This special exhibit highlights the relationship between Elvis and his only child, Lisa Marie. Through numerous items, including family photos and home movies, guests will be able to explore Lisa Marie's experience of growing up at Graceland and the relationship she had with her famous father. Artifacts in this exhibit include Lisa Marie's baby foot prints, clothing, childhood tricycle, record player, crib, gold ID Bracelet given to her by her father, and much more.

Opens March 1 at Sincerely Elvis
Celebrate Elvis’ status as a music pioneer and icon who paved the way and influenced many of today’s artists and celebrities through this exciting 2012 exhibit. The exhibit will feature many artifacts on loan from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum |

in Cleveland, in addition to items from the collections of many of today’s biggest names in music. Some of the featured items include: Bono’s “MacPhisto” suit from U2’s Zooropa performances; Sammy Hagar’s Yamaha Red Rocker custom guitar and outfit from his 2004 Van Halen tour; one of Bill Clinton’s saxophones; and clothing from James Brown, Elton John, Wanda Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Ringo Star, among others.
Each exhibit will be open for one year.

Elvis Presley Estate Sued For $130 Million By King's 'Real Daughter': A Swedish woman who for more than two decades has been trying to convince everyone that she's Elvis Presley's real daughter and that Lisa Marie Presley has stolen her identity, has filed a lawsuit against the Presley family claiming more than $130 million in damages for defamation and infliction of emotional distress. Previously she had refused a DNA test, but now she has agreed to one.
Lisa Johansen is the author of 1998 memoir, "I, Lisa Marie: The True Story of Elvis Presley's Real Daughter." In the book, she told the story of how after Elvis died in 1977, Priscilla Presley left America while fearing for her daughter's safety. Forced to assume a new identity for her own protection, Johansen says she struggled to reclaim her name and heritage. To show she's the rightful heir of the huge Presley estate, Johansen also reportedly pointed to some evidence, such as a skull and face analysis of Lisa Marie Presley.
At the time of the book's publishing, the odd story gained some press attention, but it quickly lost its luster after Johansen reportedly refused to take a DNA test. In 2000, the Texas-based publisher of I, Lisa Marie, which had given her a $200,000 advance to write the book, sued her for $50 million for damaging sales of the book.
Johansen became mostly forgotten, subject to occasional rumors, but she hasn't backed off of her claims.

Recently, she's pressed authorities in the UK to investigate possible identity theft, and a few months ago, on the anniversary of Elvis' death, she showed up at Graceland and had conversations with some of the staff.
This led the Presley family to reach out to Marty Singer, the pitbull Hollywood attorney, who in August fired off a warning letter to Johansen's representatives. In the letter, Singer advised that the "malicious false claims and offensive wrongful conduct" of Johansen would no longer be tolerated and that it would lead to action if the woman didn't restrain herself.
So Johansen reacted by filing her own lawsuit a week ago in Tennessee federal court against the Presley estate. The woman says that the family has been attempting to intimidate her and has been spreading lies about her. She says that she went to Graceland by invitation and that the defendants are attempting to harass her away from her claims.
Meanwhile, the whole bizarre mystery might be put to rest soon enough. According to one of documents she submitted in this case, Johansen consented to a DNA test from London authorities in 2010.

Elvis Xmas UK Chart Campaign?; Brian Quinn informs EIN that apparently, the Official UK Elvis Fan Club want to try and get one of Elvis' Christmas songs into the top ten for Christmas. The song they would like for this is of course 'Blue Christmas' and what they are asking is from the 1st of December for every fan to download 'Blue Christmas' from i-tunes or other download sites (where the download counts "chartwise") and at least try to get Elvis into the top ten. In order to get a high chart entry we will all need to download during the same
week. Fans who are interested Please do not download until the exact dates are
given. EIN will keep you posted!
EIN points out that The Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain should get their act together and start using modern media to spread the word! There is no mention of this on their website (their latest posted news is 3 weeks old) nor are there any "purchase" links for UK fans to easily follow. In this day and age if fans want to get Elvis into the Top Ten then one needs to use more than word-and-mouth.

We heard early this morning that Nathan's battle ended after the bravest of fights to defeat this disease yesterday evening. Our hearts, love, thoughts and prayers are with Donna, Ronnie, Hilary, Gavin, Gipsy and the entire Tutt/Campbell family at this time. 'Elvis For Everyone' Magazine #51: Two recent Elvis magazines arrived at EIN this week. The Dutch 'Elvis For Everyone' is impressive as still being the large format A4 size. This issue features articles on the new Graceland Randers, Elvis and his Stutz Blackhawk car, Bad Nauheim Elvis locations, as well as extensive CD reviews plus a detailed article on the 2012 'Original Elvis Tribute Tour' forthcoming concerts. Sadly for English-only readers, the articles are all in Dutch, but the size and photos (like the delicious rare one far right) makes it another cool European Elvis magazine.

'The Elvis Mag' #75: From the other side of the channel, the 'Essential Elvis' new December magazine #75 features plenty of interesting reading (though less Elvis photos). Of particular interest is the interview with Jennifer Tucker who got to examine the upstairs of Graceland for the National register back in 1991. The Stamp's Ed Hill (far right) is interviewed on his times spent with Elvis, there is lengthy examination of Hound Dog and its writer Jerry Leiber - plus an interview with composer Randy Starr and the usual reviews and news. Plenty to read as we head to Christmas.

Elvis Singles Downgrade - Billboard Responds Again: Following multiple posts by EIN's Brian Quinn and others on Billboard's Facebook Page they have printed the following:
Billboard wrote: "Brian, we hope this explanation helps clarify. Thank you for your feedback and let us know if you have additional questions based on the below.
>> The chart statistics referenced the Rihanna story were based on the Hot 100 chart which launched in 1958. The Hot 100 was the first chart of its kind to rank songs based on a combination of juke box plays, airplay and sales. Prior to the Hot 100, we printed various pop charts based either on disc jockey reports/airplay, sales or juke box plays. This includes the Top 100, which started in late 1955 as a limited hybrid chat and morphed back into a sales-based chart in 1957. Elvis’ No.1s on those pre-1958 charts have been counted by some sources in conjunction with the Hot 100 when considered among No. 1 songs in the supposed rock and roll era (1955 to present), which is where the confusion lies. As is the fact that some sources equally count a pre-Hot 100 No. 1 if it topped either of the Hot 100’s predecessors (Top 100, Best-Sellers, Juke Box, Disc Jockey). As is the case with Elvis’ “I Want You I Need You I Love You” which topped the Best-Sellers chart, but not the Top 100 in 1956.
In no way are we diminishing Elvis’ chart achievements. In fact, we specifically reference Elvis in the above story, mentioning his No. 1 total prior to the Hot 100: |

EIN still believes that in only using the "Hot 100" Billboard is still distorting the impact of Elvis' past achievements. The modern "Pop Era" of rock'n'roll started well before 1958 and should still be included or amalgamated with the overall statistics.

‘San Francisco Bay Blues’ New Import CD: As recorded at the Cow Palace, San Francisco, Sunday November 28th, 1976. 14 years after the first release of this show, Audionics delivers a slightly more complete version of Elvis' November 28th, 1976 show, as taken from the mixing desk. Elvis first played San Francisco on October 26th, 1957, two shows on one day, near the very end of his final fifties tour. He would not return to the legendary "City by the Bay" until almost exactly 13 years later, on November 13th, 1970, at the legendary Cow Palace.
Presley made his final two appearances in the same building on November 28 and 29, 1976. Unlike most tour shows earlier in the year, Elvis was in fine form, and the shows were well received by the San Francisco crowd.
For the San Francisco Bay Blues reissue, Audionics worked directly with a first generation, DAT copy of the original soundboard tape and made some improvements to the audio. It was a painstaking process of repairing and enhancing the original binaural recording, and then the sound was mixed down to genuine stereo. |

Originally, the left channel consisted of all vocals and nearly all the instruments, while the right channel featured only piano (Tony Brown) and rhythm guitar (John Wilkinson). To give the listener an idea of how this sounded, four digitally-restored, binaural bonus tracks are included.
Unfortunately, the original tape ends during "Hound Dog" (previously unreleased), missing the show's closing tracks "Hawaiian Wedding Song", "Blue Christmas", "That's All Right" and "Can't Help Falling In Love".
San Francisco Bay Blues is presented in a neat-looking digipack filled with photographs taken during the November 28th Cow Palace concert.

Elvis - King Of Catalog Albums: Last week Elvis sold more catalog albums (32,609) than any other artist in the US (based on the Top 200 Catalog album chart). Elvis also had the most titles listed on this chart - nine albums.
1 Elvis Presley - 32,609
2 Susan Boyle - 21,219
3 Adele - 18,512
- Michael Jackson was much further down the list with only 11,209, The Beatles at a paltry 4,609!
Billboard defines a catalog title as one that is more than eighteen months old and has fallen below position 100 on the Billboard 200. The only exception to the 'eighteen months old' rule pertains to holiday releases. A 'holiday' album is eligible for the Billboard 200 only during its initial year of release. After its first year, a holiday-related album appears on Top Catalog Albums.

Further, the above figures only include sales from those Elvis albums listed on the Top 200 Catalog Album Chart in the U.S.A. The Elvis Presley catalog is one of (if not the) largest there is. In 2008, over 60 Elvis albums were listed on the UK Year-End (Top 10,000) Albums list - more than any other artist.

March 1974 was Elvis' ninth tour of the USA and twenty-five performances in under 3 weeks. Freed from the constraints of the Las Vegas Hilton casino crowd, Elvis was in fine form and putting on great shows getting fabulous on-stage feedback from his enthusiastic audiences from the Southern states. Every concert sold out in a few hours and extra concerts had to be added to meet the demand.

Rockin' Robin Rosaaen sets the Record Straight: Recently the joint Michaan's auction of memorabilia from Elvis secretary Trude Forsher and the Rockin' Robin Rosaaen collections surprisingly did not do as well as expected.
At the time the Elvis Matters website reported that it might be due to "the economic crisis or the doubtful reputation of seller Robin Rosaaen!"
Several fans were taken aback by this comment and Rockin' Robin Rosaaen contacted EIN requesting to "Set the record right as too many times people that I have never met post incorrect information about me on some web sites without ever contacting me first". - About the statement by Elvis Matters -

New Elvis Film explores His Gospel Music Influence: Elvis Presley loved gospel music and often called band members and backup singers to his suite after a performance to sing the music he learned as a child. Those impromptu sessions often lasted into the wee hours of the morning as the King led guests through rousing renditions of everything from 'Amazing Grace' to the latest gospel tune he had heard and loved.
A new film, 'The Identical,' is set to examine this gospel-influenced side of one of the best-known performers who has ever stepped onto a stage or made a recording. The $3 million independent project from Nashville's City of Peace Films will star Ryan Pelton (right), who is a real-life Elvis impersonator and does an entire show based on the iconic entertainer's gospel influences.
Earlier this week, the Hollywood Reporter revealed that 'The Identical' was one of four films in various stages of development about Elvis.
The other three films that are in production are 'Fame & Fortune,' 'Last Train to Memphis' and 'Elvis & Nixon.' 'Last Train to Memphis' is based on Peter Guralnick's book of the same name, while 'Elvis & Nixon' is based on the singer's meeting with President Nixon in 1970. Eric Bana will portray the legendary singer, with Luke Wilson playing Elvis' bodyguard, Sonny West. Danny Huston has been in negotiations to handle the role of the former president. 'Federal-Agent-at-Large' in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. The meeting took place on Dec. 21, 1970, at which time Elvis presented the Commander-in-Chief with several gifts, including a Colt .45 pistol.
Elvis received a total of 14 Grammy nominations but won just three Grammys in his lifetime -- all in the gospel music category -- for the albums 'How Great Thou Art' (1967) and 'He Touched Me' (1972) and for a live concert recording of 'How Great Thou Art' in 1974. He was also recognized with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1971.

How popular is Elvis in Australia?: USA Today reports that Elvis is popular enough that an Australia-based event organizer has been able to fill an entire cruise ship with Elvis fans. More than 2,250 rock'n'roll fans boarded the ship in central Sydney for the inaugural The King Tribute Cruise.
Australia's newspapers report that what's billed as Australia's first Elvis cruise set sail this week on Royal Caribbean's Rhapsody of the Seas, which is spending the winter in the region.
The three-day King Tribute Cruise, as the Elvis-themed voyage is called, features shows by 14 Elvis tribute artists. Organizer Johnny Welsh got the idea after running a successful '50s and '60s music cruise last year, and he was so convinced the cruise would sell out that he mortgaged his house to pay the $340,000-a-day fee to charter the ship from Royal Caribbean. The real success and Elvis' on-going popularity was shown by there being not one spare bed left on this sold-out cruise.

Elvis impersonator Dean Vegas joins race for Australian mayor: Elvis impersonator Dean Vegas last week joined 5 other candidates in the race for mayor of Australia's Gold Coast.
Vegas insisted he was a serious candidate and would inject passion and pride back into the Glitter Strip, which he said had lost its lustre through council disunity.
"I can unite the community to work together," he said.
"We've got the 2018 Commonwealth Games coming up and must unite. I know a lot of people are proud of our city but they're not proud of our council and our leaders."
Mr Vegas came in tow with the real Elvis Presley's former tour manager, Joe Esposito, who said the Gold Coast needed an Elvis as its mayor.
"I want to help him - I love this Gold Coast," said Mr Esposito (right with Elvis in 1969), who lives in Las Vegas.
"If Elvis knew that this town was here, he would have come here and visited. I know he would love this place."

'Viva Elvis' likely to close in 2012: MGM Resorts is likely to ask Cirque du Soleil to close its "Viva Elvis" towards the end of next year and replace the Aria production with a new title, according to a company memo. No closing date has yet been confirmed.
It would be the first of Cirque's seven Las Vegas titles to close since the opening of "Mystere" in 1993. Ticket sales suggest Las Vegas showgoers are not as enthusiastic for this Elvis Cirque du Soliel show as originally hoped.
"All of us at Cirque du Soleil are saddened that we may have to bring 'Viva Elvis' to the end of its journey. However, we respect the decision of our partner as ticket sales have not met expectations," Daniel Lamarre, Cirque's president and chief executive officer, wrote in a memo to the cast and crew of the show, which was released after a backstage meeting Wednesday afternoon.
"We will now take the appropriate time to focus on redeploying as many of the show's employees as possible, when the time comes, and evaluating next steps for exploring the many possibilities for creative content," Lamarre added.

extended period next winter for substantial changes that would shift the focus from Presley biography to Cirque acrobatics. Now, the show will close only from Feb. 4 to 11, but it will still incorporate the "banguine" acrobatic act from "Zed," another Cirque closing in Japan.
"Elvis" will undergo "some artistic changes but not a full revamp," said Renee-Claude Menard, the show's senior director of public relations.
Lamarre's memo noted that nearly 900 performances have drawn close to 1 million guests since the Presley tribute opened with the hotel in late 2009 (with its formal grand opening in February 2010). "Like you, I am proud of our work on this show and understand that this is simply a business decision," he wrote.
"Viva Elvis" is produced in partnership with CKX Inc., owners of the Presley estate. The title, which drew mixed reviews, was said to be more creatively restricted by the estate than Cirque's "Love" venture with The Beatles.

EPE Loses Legal Battle: The legal heirs of Elvis Presley lost a lawsuit Wednesday in Germany claiming a fortune from Sony Music Entertainment Germany for what they called
the "exploitation of Elvis Presley's greatest hits".
The Judge hearing the case in the Munich court mockingly quoted one of Elvis' 50s songs, saying, 'Money, honey, if you want to get along with me,' as he threw out the claim by Elvis
Presley Enterprises for a share of the record company's profits over the past 40 years.
The unprecedented deal, thought up by Colonel Parker saw Elvis sign away to RCA Records in 1973 the rights to all his classic hits and more, including Heartbreak Hotel and Jailhouse Rock, for a lump sum of $5.4 million dollars. The deal saw both Parker and RCA Records profit greatly while Elvis was walk away with less than £2 million dollars for all but his entire career. Sony later acquired the rights.
The Elvis estate argued the package was now worth $130 million dollars thanks to German copyright extensions. They partly based their claim on a 2002 provision in German rights law that ordains a top-up of royalties for unexpected best-sellers.
But the judge disagreed. Christian Czychowski, the lawyer for Elvis Presley Enterprises, in which the icon's daughter Lisa-Marie Presley holds a 15-per-cent stake, said his client
would appeal.

Shawn Klush and Donny Edwards In Australia - Review: Elvis Tribute Artists Shawn Klush & Donny Edwards along with Elvis' Sweet Inspirations have recently been touring Australia together in concert. Since 2007 when EPE named Shawn Klush (right) as the “Ultimate ETA” he has become one of the World's most sought-after Elvis tribute artists. Similarly Donny Edwards regularly features in the top “Ultimate ETA” contests held in Memphis and he is renown for his remarkable authenticity.
The Sweet Inspirations need no introduction - only to mention that thankfully they are still continuing to perform under the guidance of Estelle Brown after the untimely death of Myrna Smith.
The group also helped out by joining with the Joe Esposito fundraiser that had been organised by Australian ETA Mark Andrews.

Patti Parry Memorial: The Memorial Service for Patti Parry was last Friday at Mulholland Tennis Club, Los Angeles. EIN contributors Joan and Paul Gansky were great friends to Patti and told us about the moving tribute to the very lovely Patti Parry.
>>> About 100 people were there, including Larry & Shira Geller, Cynthia Pepper, David Stanley, Jerry Schilling, Myrna Smith's son and his wife (Jaden and Candi). Priscilla slipped in after the program began, and left before it ended.
The location was beautiful and the ceremony was very moving, with three ETA's (Lou Vuto, Ted Torres, E-Rock) singing Patti's favorite Elvis songs. Patti's brother Robert, family members and friends shared their memories of Patti. We all laughed and cried as we remembered our own personal moments with Patti.
In the evening, many of us attended the fun party celebrating Patti's life, held in Hollywood (Rolling Stone restaurant). Everyone enjoyed many more songs by the ETA's, and other friends and family who showed off their own singing talents.

Australia's first Elvis tribute cruise: Hold onto your blue suede shoes and rhinestone jumpsuits, the King is coming to town but this time by ship. Tomorrow more than a dozen Elvis Presley impersonators and thousands of Elvis fans are preparing to shake, rattle and roll their way out of Sydney Harbour aboard Australia's first-ever tribute cruise to the music legend. The unique three-night trip is the brainchild of Adelaide resident John Welsh, who has chartered Royal Caribbean's multi-million dollar 'Rhapsody of the Seas' cruise liner.
Welsh has enlisted the help of world-renowned tribute artists Pete Storm, Rob Kingsley plus Australia's Mark Andrew, Mark Anthony, She Is The King plus other as part of the ship's Elvis-inspired entertainment program. The sold-out cruise departs Sydney on November 24, but a second is slated for 2012.

‘Elvis Country’ Legacy Edition: Sony Legacy have issued a press release publicising the new January 3rd release.
It includes…
The original 12-song Elvis Country (subtitled "I'm 10,000 Years Old"), debuted January 23, 1971 on the Billboard album chart, peaked at #12, spent 21 weeks on the chart, and was certified RIAA Gold.
In the original Rolling Stone review future Presley biographer Peter Guralnick wrote, "Elvis has come out with a record which gives us some of the very finest and most affecting music since he first recorded for Sun almost 17 years ago." The idea of inserting excerpts of "I Was Born About Ten Thousand Years Ago" in between the album tracks gave the LP a conceptual feel that had never been encountered before. And the songs, from the high-energy rock of "I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water" and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" (which gives Jerry Lee Lewis a run for the money), to the big ballads that were becoming an Elvis trademark (Eddy Arnold's "I Really Don't Want To Know" and Willie Nelson's "Funny How Time Slips Away" among them) that were some of Elvis' greatest performances ever.

Elvis Country was a breath of fresh air for most of his millions of fans, and signaled a renaissance of his creative energies.
The new Nashville band had the feel of the Memphis hitmakers of 1969, mainly because their core members were part of the original Muscle Shoals sound which put that town on the map: bassist Norbert Putnam, pianist David Briggs, and drummer Jerry Carrigan. Add in masterful guitarist James Burton - who had become indispensable to Elvis after the two recent Las Vegas residencies - and the scene was set.

present He laid down first and second takes with ease, and then turned around and initiated impromptu studio jams that kept the musicians firing on all cylinders.
It all came to a head on the fourth night. After a couple of warm-ups (including Eddy Arnold's "I Really Don't Want To Know"), they thought back to the country tunes they'd already recorded, and the idea of a country album began to take shape. In short order, Elvis laid down Bob Wills' western-swing standard "Faded Love" and Ernest Tubb's "Tomorrow Never Comes." After cutting Hank Cochran's barroom weeper "Make The World Go Away" (via Eddy Arnold), Elvis and crew moved on to Willie's "Funny How Time Slips Away" and then "I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water," familiar to rock and roll fans of Johnny Rivers, but originally a big country hit for Stonewall Jackson.
Ernst Jorgensen wrote about the session, "Elvis seemed inspired, singing with a passion and soulfulness that recalled Memphis, the band fell in with equal feeling, their confidence and expressiveness growing along with his. Both singer and band were performing out of genre, improvising their own rhythms and phrasing on the spot, challenging each other." To paraphrase Jorgensen, "they had something to be proud of."

This one sheet of paper has Elvis Presley's handwriting on both sides. On one side Elvis has handwritten six songs that he wanted to perform on his upcoming tour. On the other side Elvis has written a note to his friend and musical director, Charlie Hodge, simply stating "Charlie, Make sure you get these - I want to do them." Estimate: $45,000 - $50,000
- Elvis 1968 Comeback Special Stage Worn Black Leather Boots, Elvis gave the boots to his close friend Alan Fortas at the completion of the show's filming.

Elvis aged 12 on newly discovered Film!: Hot news from our friends at Elvis Express Radio, with talk of a never before seen film which is claimed to feature a 12 year old Elvis as he leaves Lawhon School in Tupelo.
The film is said to be of Children leaving the School and the young Elvis is said to be seen for only a fleeting moment but if this is the real thing, it will be an amazing piece of early Elvis history. We were told a representative from EPE has checked it out.
EPE confirmed to us they had met with the individual who showed them the film, but at this time they had not been able to examine the footage in any great detail.

RARE Elvis NZ Christmas LP in Record Collector magazine: This month's Record Collector magazine features an article on the world's rarest album sleeves. The well-known "Parlophone execs" Sgt Pepper album is the world's most sought-after, but Elvis Presley's 1957 New Zealand Christmas album RCA Victor LOC 1055 is also listed as one of the rarest.
The alternate NZ album cover is a classic, but buyers beware as several bootleg versions were also printed and are often seen for sale at inflated prices.
If it looks too new, don't believe it is the original!

'Rather See You Dead' - New e-book Novel: Author Rick Shefchik's fourth novel 'Rather See You Dead' is a Rock'n'Roll mystery.
What would have happened if John Lennon had decided to try to visit Elvis Presley when Elvis was serving in the U.S. Army in Germany between 1958-1960. It seemed natural that Lennon would at least think about trying to visit his idol before he left Europe. Many young fans visited Elvis’s rented house in Bad Nauheim, Germany. Why not John? After all, he traveled to Hamburg, Germany, just a few months later with his band, the Beatles.
Most of the novel takes place in the present. An out-of-work newspaper reporter named Phil Cropper is hired by a network TV talent show to investigate the background of Jessie Bridges, a terrific singer with a troubled past who’s been receiving cryptic mash-ups of Beatles and Elvis song lyrics. Cropper discovers a secret that leads to several murders and puts his own life in danger. Interspersed are flashbacks to 1960 and the events that could change rock ’n’ roll history if they become public knowledge.

Elvis Presley Music/Gladys Music sign with Imagem Music: Worldwide music publishers Imagem Music USA and Elvis Presley Music/Gladys Music announced today a publishing deal for representation of the Elvis Presley catalogue, effective January 1, 2012. The impressive Presley catalogue, co-owned by EPE and the families of the late, great publishing giants, Jean and Julian Aberbach, includes over 1,000 songs that have been recorded by Elvis Presley, Peggy Lee, Nat King Cole and other legendary entertainers.
Songs from Elvis' catalogue include some of the most sought-after for commercials, television shows, movie trailers and soundtracks around the world.
Recently, "A Little Less Conversation" was included in the Dreamworks animated film Megamind; "Can't Help Falling in Love" is featured in the current film, Like Crazy; "Jailhouse Rock" was utilized for a television commercial for Fiat; and "Fever" could be heard in a spot for Brazil's leading fashion retailer C&A, just to name a few.

Billboard Magazine Downgrades Elvis - Follow-Up: Following our story below about the downgrading of Elvis' Billboard achievements, the following response has been supplied by EPE after speaking with Billboard Magazine:
"The confusion seems to come from the fact that these stats in the article are ONLY based on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which launched in 1958, after Elvis' landmark years of 1956 and 1957.
Since 11 of Elvis' number ones were on various Billboard pop charts over a "rapid-fire span" of three years, three months and three weeks, all which happened prior to the Hot 100's Aug. 4, 1958 inception, he would not be on that particular list.
They said that prior to the Hot 100, Billboard printed various pop charts based either solely on airplay, sales or juke box plays. This includes the Top 100, which was a sales-based chart. Elvis' number ones on those pre-1958 charts have been counted by some sources in conjunction with the Hot 100 when considered among number one songs in the rock 'n' roll era.
So Billboard is in no way changing their system to reflect less number ones for Elvis and they were very much wanting to make sure we let the fans know."

sales, you cannot ignore past sales and chart placings whatever changes have happened over the years.
This stupid decision by Billboard will no doubt create the wrong historical impression with many of their readers - and lead to the situation where such unbalanced statistics will be quoted out of context in musical journals throughout the world.
"Chart History" will change and Elvis's amazing musical legacy will get belittled by it.

'Elvis Presley's GOLD CADILLAC Tour of Australasia 1968-69' Revised: This unique 2006 book looking at 'Presley's GOLD CADILLAC Tour of Australasia' has now been revised and enlarged to 106 pages, with heaps of coloured pictures, not used in the previous three pressings of the book.
The issue has many new features, including a couple of very rare photographs supplied by Graceland /EPE of the awards presented to Elvis by the NSW Benevolent Society.
Additional items have also been supplied by Bob Stephens who was President of the Elvis Presley Fan Club in Sydney at that time, especially the Official Invitation Card that was sent to a very select few.

'Elvis Country' next Legacy Release Confirmed : As we stated last saturday, it is now confirmed that 'Elvis Country' will be the next double-disc Elvis Legacy release from SONY, with the release date noted as January 3, 2012.

Elvis Presley by Jose Feliciano!: A clarification on the rather unbelievable story below, which was misrepresented by the Miami Herald. - Singer Jose Feliciano is currently working on a new album, Elvis Presley by Jose Feliciano, executive produced by George Klein, Elvis’ best man and producer of the SiriusXM radio’s Elvis Presley program.

Jose some Elvis song titles he could record. He has also provided Jose Feliciano

the new album more impact. That is in fact the extent of his "executive producer" credit. The Miami Herald also missed the point that ELVIS was George Klein's Best Man, not the other way round.

Whitney Houston on meeting Elvis: In a recent interview Whitney Houston told Access Hollywood's Shaun Robinson how she met Elvis Presley back in 1969. She explained how her mother Cissy Houston who sang with the gospel group Sweet Inspirations, use to sing back-up for Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin for many years.
Whitney elaborated, "You don't actually MEET Elvis, you just have to LOOK at Elvis!"
She goes on to tell how they were sitting in a room backstage and Elvis walked in with his mink (real fur), glasses on, and she just looked at him and could not say a word- (star struck). She said he was amazing to look at, and it was a moment she would never forget.
Whitney went on to talk about her 30 years in the business and return to the silver-screen

'Love Me Tender' Premieres 55 years ago: On November 15, 1956 a 21-year-old Elvis Presley made his feature film debut in Love Me Tender, a musical Western that featured the young star in an originally minor role that was expanded to account for his exploding popularity.
Set during the Civil War, the movie cast Presley as the youngest of four brothers who stays home to look after the homestead while the other three go off to fight for the Confederacy. Trouble brews when all three brothers are reported dead, Presley marries one of their girlfriends (Debra Paget) and the brothers return home as outlaws after robbing a payroll.
Not only was Love Me Tender notable for being Presley's acting debut, but it was also the only film in which his character dies on screen. The film was originally intended to be a straight-up acting job, but the success of the titular single prompted boss Colonel Tom Parker to turn the movie into a marketing vehicle for the soundtrack. The formula proved successful, and Parker did likewise on a series of Presley movies that from the early 1960s onwards were increasingly criticized for their thin plots and uninspired music.

"The 40 Greatest" new Import CD: The 'ELVIS 40 GREATEST' double-album was UK's 5th best-selling album of 1975 and the 6th best selling LP of the 1970s.
It topped the charts for ten weeks and part of its success was due, undoubtedly, to the fact that it was advertised widely on TV - the first album ever to be promoted in this way.
Equally the change to get so many good tracks on one release, and at such a reasonable price, was something fans and the general public alike did not want to miss. The album was not, however, issued in the USA.
RCA also later released this album in October 1978, when it reached No. 40 in a 14 week chart run.
Despite its legendary status, the original album was never released on silver pressed CD.

Elvis' Personal Leather Traveling Case on EBay; Re-listed due to a fake bid , the winner could not pay - On EBay is Elvis' Personal Leather Traveling Office Supply Case that he gave to Marty Lacker.
Described as ... One late afternoon Elvis decided he wanted to go to Lowenstein's Department Store on EP Blvd, just up the street from Graceland. On this occasion Marty and Richard Davis went with him.
While browsing and looking at various items they were in a department where they sold some leather goods and Elvis picked up this small leather zippered case that was like a travelling office supply case. It held a ruler, a very small stapler, scissors, a tape measure, a small razor, paper clips etc. He also purchased a few other things and then they returned to Graceland. Elvis went upstairs and Marty went home to finally return later that night. |

When Marty came back Elvis asked why he left, seems Elvis came back down about 20 minutes after they went home and was looking for Marty. Marty asked if he needed him to do something for him and he replied, "No, I just wanted to give you this, I thought you could use this in your work more than I can and it would be good when you go on business trips." And with that Elvis handed Marty the small leather travelling office supply kit and said, "I really bought this for you." Marty said Elvis never ceased to amaze him.

Elvis 1955 Cadillac sold for US$172,000: The 1955 Cadillac Series 75 Fleetwood limousine that Elvis Presley used to transport his band to shows all over the Southern United States sold for $172,000 at the
Bonhams annual Classic California auction.
This well documented car was purchased by the King in January of 1956 and immediately repainted Black. He may have died a very rich man, but in '56 Elvis still needed his father to co-sign on the car.
Unlike many older Cadillacs that head to auction with questionable Elvis ties, this Limo is a well documented car with clear proof it was owned by Presley.

The Caddy ended up at the Elvis Presley Museum in the 1990s before being put on display at the Elvis-A-Rama Museum in Las Vegas. Currently owned by a prominent Texas collector, this piece of Memphis-by-way-of-Detroit history comes with the original conditional sales contract from Southern Motors of Memphis that was co-signed by Elvis' father, Vernon Presley. Also included is the original owner's manual with Elvis' signature on the back cover, plus one spare tire, lug wrench, and jack.
The car sold for more than the presale estimates which were between $100,000 and $150,000.

Of all of Elvis' 70s concerts, those in Lake Tahoe are the most poorly-documented. In a way it's a real pity, because the beauty of the Nevada surroundings and the intimacy of the Sahara showroom always seemed to bring out the best in him. Although Elvis looked somewhat unhealthy in May 1976, he appeared to be in a very good mood, and his warm interaction with fans made the shows quite memorable. The May 2, 1976 gig featured on this release is one of the longest and most entertaining that he gave.

- Since the late 70s, there were rumours that the tour opening in College Park was a complete disaster and according to several books, the Detroit, MI, September 29th, 1974 afternoon performance was another of the most controversial Elvis Presley events. In a recent book, "DAY BY DAY", it's said that Elvis was on stage for 30 minutes only, giving his worst concert of the tour.
In August, Straight Arrow obtained a bunch of tapes, among them a 1st generation copy of a previously unknown audience recording of this Detroit concert. The producers decided to release this particular recording because it is an interesting show in good sound quality. Will another myth be shattered? Is the show as bad as its reputation? Judge for yourself.

Elvis Poised To Conquer The Big Screen - in four new movies?: It's been thirty-four years since one of the most influential figures in the music industry died - the International Business Times reports. Yet time and time again, attempts to make an Elvis Presley biopic has led to Heartbreak Hotel. In this respect, among others, Elvis might as well be the Holy Grail.
In a time where biographical films are a dime a dozen, the King of Rock and Roll has remained strangely elusive. CXK Inc. is fiercely protective over Elvis' works, making any attempts at translating the icon's life on screen extra challenging.
"A biopic about Elvis is a gargantuan challenge, and that's probably why there hasn't been one," a veteran producer tells The Hollywood Reporter.
On paper, Presley's life is perfect material for the big screen. A humble childhood, a rollercoaster relationship with his wife Priscilla and his wild, unprecedented fame - all of these combined should have lead to at least three biographical films by the 21st century.
There's zero for now, but within a year or two, there might be plenty of Elvis films around to satisfy fans who have been waiting for three decades.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, there are currently four unauthorized Elvis projects in development.

biography "Last Train to Memphis" with screenwriter John Fusco.
"Elvis & Nixon", a comedic flick that chronicles Presley's White House visit, has already reportedly cast Eric Bana as the singer and Danny Huston as Richard Nixon.
Another adaptation "Fame & Fortune" offers an insider's perspective, telling a story of a former bodyguard's relationship with Presley.
Rounding off the Elvis projects is "The Identical", which will focus on one of the many Elvis impersonators and will have more of a faith-based angle.
One of the many obstacles to making a film is purchasing the licenses of the crooner's famous hits, which can be extremely pricey.
"CKX has not been asked for any licenses to Elvis Presley's music by any of these film projects, nor has it granted any," a representative of the company says, but declines to give further comments. (News, Source;IBT) |
Elvis Presley Boulevard could get facelift of $50 million: It may be the gateway to Whitehaven and Memphis' most iconic tourist attraction, but Elvis Presley Boulevard "has lost all visual and contextual cohesion" and "aesthetic quality," a new city plan says. That's a bureaucratic way of saying it's downright ugly.
But a joint city and state initiative would provide a nearly $50 million makeover for a three-mile stretch of the Elvis Presley corridor.
The city project, which could begin by late 2013, would rebuild Elvis Presley Boulevard by relocating overhead utilities and installing landscaped or specially designed medians and new street lighting.
Cameron said that while the project would help Graceland -- and an expansion planned by Elvis Presley Enterprises -- others would benefit, too, including business owners, residents and the larger community.
"It's not strictly about the tourism," he said. |

Jack Soden, CEO of EPE concurred, saying the project also could improve Memphis' image, noting that "people from all over the world" travel the boulevard.
"We've been interested in improving the appearance of Elvis Presley Boulevard for over 20 years," he said.
EPE, whose parent firm, CKx, was purchased by a private-equity group this year, has been working on plans to add attractions in the Graceland area. But those plans are being "reshaped" in the wake of the economic downturn, Soden said.
Attendance at Graceland hovered around 600,000 annually for many years, but it has dipped this year as a result of the poor economy and what Soden describes as sensationalized reports in the national media about Mississippi River flooding this spring

Elvis Presley by Jose Feliciano!: The Miami Herald reported a story EIN found hard to believe - Singer Jose Feliciano is going back to school to receive an honorary high school diploma as part of Miami Lighthouse for the Blind’s 80th Anniversary dinner concert at the Biltmore Hotel. As a young boy growing up in Puerto Rico, Feliciano had to drop out of high school to play music to help out his family financially.
At 66, Feliciano stays busy, currently working on a new album, Elvis Presley by Jose Feliciano, executive produced by George Klein, Elvis’ best man and producer of the SiriusXM radio’s Elvis Presley program.
- - EIN points out that George Klein was not Elvis' Best Man, nor can we imagine him producing an album in 2011.

George Klein is the producer? He has been tone deaf his entire life in spite of playing records as a radio DJ. In addition he wouldn't know the first thing about producing a record or how to work a studio control Board even if it was computerized.
On a number of occasions at American studios when he was there and made unsolicited suggestions to Elvis or Chips, not only on an Elvis session but on one or two other artists he was totally ignored because his suggestions were totally wrong.
Somebody has to be playing a joke about this. Either that or Klein will have as much to do with producing the album as my 3 year old Great Grandson.

New Elvis Presley Recording Discovered?: Before you get excited, EIN states actually NO it's not true!
However Newschannel 3's I-Team say it has uncovered a new Elvis recording.
THEY SAY >> Elvis fans have been living in the heartbreak hotel since his death, wanting to hear anything new from the king.
Now, a new, never before heard recording, potentially a demo track, has surfaced that could be Elvis Presley.
This is the story of a king, and a recording of a song called 'Living to Love You.'
According to Battle Creek attorney Violet Hinton, that recording has Elvis Presley singing. She says the song comes from songwriter Jimmie Crane and producer Albert Leigh, recorded in 1976, the year before Elvis died.
There was a series of unfortunate events, Hinton says Jimmie Crane passed away, Albert Leigh had a stroke, his studio was broken into and Leigh died after a second stroke. The recording disappeared, only to be rediscovered years later, collecting dust in the attic of Albert Leigh's wife's home. |

“He was the greatest. There's no one like Elvis Presley, never will be,” said Hinton. “When I heard that, I knew that was Elvis Presley. I knew it.”
Hinton says she's verified the authenticity of the documents and says they connect Elvis, Jimmie Crane and Albert Leigh to the song. Perhaps most important are shipping records, on the song line, “Living to Love You,” on the artist line, “Elvis.”
Hinton brought the case to Newschannel 3 and they tracked down forensic audio expert Ed Primeau and noted music journalist Gary Graff to help solve the mystery.
Ed Primeau has done forensic audiovisual analysis work on dozens of legal cases and he says “Yes, It's Elvis Presley, there's no doubt in my mind.” The tonality, vibrato, phrasing and the spectrum, all a match.
And Hinton hopes to eventually make it so other Elvis fans across the world can enjoy the king's 'newest' song as well.
This may only be the beginning of the journey for the recording. Graff says if the right people hear about it, they could raise ownership questions. Also, the original reel to reel may also exist, but the Leigh family doesn't have that.
Newschannel 3 reached out to Graceland and Sony Music Entertainment about this story, but we did not get a response.
EIN notes that Elvis never recorded with producer Albert Leigh and this tape sounds like a poor imitator. Any "forensic audiovisual analyser" sure doesn't know their Elvis if they think this is Elvis singing. Crazy!

Marty Lacker Reacts to anti-Elvis Billboard move: Elvis' good friend Marty Lacker reacted to the this week's news (see news story below) that Billboard have removed 11 of Elvis' US Number Ones from their qualification lists.

Most of the people at Billboard today and for the last decade are people who either were not born when Elvis broke the barriers in recorded music in the 50's and many of them were not even born when he died, so their mindset is that The Beatles and all those young artists who came along since are their idols and icons. They really don't have a clue about Elvis' importance to the music business and even in a round about way, to their jobs.
I can assure you from my personal involvement and experiences in the music business including my friendships with many of the powers that were back in the day at Billboard, those older people who were around back from the 50's through the 70's held Elvis in high esteem and knew what he accomplished in the recording industry and what he did for the business.

It is sad what has happened to the music business today including the fact that many of these so-called superstars today really can't sing. They use all kinds of technological gimmicks in the studio to make them sound good and all kinds of productions on stage to deflect from the fact that they can't sing.
There will never be another artist who will ever do what Elvis did, including the fact that he changed the culture of the world in the 50's as well as breaking down the barriers for Black music and Black artists.
He is the measuring stick which all artists are rated.
Best thing for everyone to do is enjoy his music because all the peripheral crap means nothing,including Billboard and the rest of the media today.

In Fact Billboard started to downgrade ELVIS after the success of "Elvis: 30 #1s" and "A Little Less Conversation" in 2002. They refused to acknowledge "A Little Less Conversation" as a legitimate number one despite the fact that it topped the singles charts in over 20 countries, including Billboard's singles sales chart. They said it doesn't qualify because it wasn't the "main singles chart".
I guess they mean nobody paid them enough money to get "A Little Less Conversation" the top airplay spot upon it's release. It is a possibility that the reason for Billboard's latest downgrade is because ELVIS finally passed the Beatles on the singles sales chart in 2004 with the re-release of "That's Alright" which gave "THE KING" his 21st number one. That was the straw that broke the camel's as far as Billboard Magazine and their "new editors" was concerned. They figured they had the deck stacked in the Beatles favor for years and then the inevitable happened.
They gave the second spot to Mariah Carey who never earned any of her number one singles. Proof being suggested skullduggery that all of her #1 singles were number one in airplay via the old "payola scandal". It's a safe bet that Billboard will not allow Carey to surpass the Beatles in number ones.

Facts are, ELVIS is still the solo artist with the most number one singles and there is nothing Billboard can do about it. Their vendetta against ELVIS will back fire on them and when they go bankrupt they will be forgotten while "THE KING" will still be remembered in 50 more years.

Elvis By Special Request '71 At 40 (Book Review): The latest Joseph Tunzi - Paul Lichter collaboration provides a long overdue visual focus on what some refer to as Elvis' 'lost tour".

Billboard Magazine Downgrades Elvis: Elvis pretty much started what we have today in the music world, he was the original Rock and Pop King and he re-wrote the American Charts, became the All American Hero and paved the way for all to follow.
Instead of being hailed by the official music charts of his own country, Elvis Presley is having
his historic achievements removed from the official statistics. The Billboard Hot 100 was first launched on August 4th 1958, but Elvis has always had his hits counted due to them reaching #1 on the main charts of the period.... Until now!

simply erased 11 of Elvis' American #1s.

Elvis Mural in Milan, Italy: Spotted in Milan’s trendy Navigli neighborhood near the 4th-century church Chiesa di San Lorenzo Maggiore (“Basilica of Saint Lawrence”). A large mural of Elvis Presley, called “Elvis, Elvis” which was painted by American Pop Surrealism artist Ron English and was inspired by Andy Warhol’s “Double Elvis.”

Michael Douglas visits Memphis: Movie star Michael Douglas visited Memphis for the first time Friday as part of an effort to help Methodist Healthcare in its fight against cancer. "I cannot tell you how much I like Memphis," he said.
Recently recovered from stage 4 tongue cancer, the actor shared his story during a sold out luncheon at the Peabody. Douglas captivated 1,200 people with reflections on his recovery, and entertained with stories from his amazing movie career, including his Academy Award winning role of Gordon Gecko in "Wall Street."
"Diplomacy stops wars," he said. "If you're talking to each other, a lot of times, diplomacy stops a war from going on."
On a lighter note, Douglas said, his 11-year-old son is a huge Elvis fan. The actor promised to return to town with his famous wife Catherine Zeta Jones for a trip to Graceland.
The Catherine Zeta-Jones, George Clooney movie 'Intolerable Cruelty' in fact featured 'Suspicious Minds' as its main film title theme.

Elvis Director Hal Kanter dies at 92; Hal Kanter (right) was an Emmy Award-winning comedy writer, and a director and producer whose career included writing for Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, directing Elvis Presley and creating a landmark 1960s TV series "Julia" starring Diahann Carroll, has died. He was 92.
Among his movie credits as a writer are Hope and Crosby's "Road to Bali" and Martin & Lewis' "Money from Home" and "Artists and Models" as well as the movies including "Pocket Full of Miracles".
He also directed Elvis Presley in the 1957 movie "Loving You," which Kanter co-wrote; and he wrote the screenplay for Presley's 1961 film "Blue Hawaii." Kanter's longest-running writing job was the annual Academy Awards ceremony. Beginning in 1952, a year before the broadcast moved from radio to television, he wrote for the Oscar show at least 33 years.
In 1991 and 1992, Kanter was among the Oscar show writers who shared Emmys for outstanding writing in a variety program.

Kanter: First of all, while we were having dinner at Elvis's house, a rather boisterous gentleman came barging into the living room. That was Colonel Tom Parker. That's when I had met him for the first time. He was on his way to Shreveport where I was going to accompany Elvis for his farewell concert on the Louisiana Hayride. And Elvis was very proud of me, because I was his Hollywood director. He kept introducing me to people as my director from Hollywood, overlooking completely the fact that I was the writer which I was more proud of than being a director, and still am as a matter of fact.
... We drove at night through Tennessee and into Louisiana and arrived very, very early in the morning at the Shreveport Hotel and tried go get some sleep.
And I was awakened about maybe 7:30 by hoards of children shouting Elvis's name trying to waking him up. And he finally opened the window in his hotel room and leaned out and said, "Please, let me get some sleep, folks. I'll see you all later." And they quieted down. And I was amazed at that. I never saw anybody control a crowd so effortlessly as he did.
Anyway, I was wearing a shirt, a black velour shirt that my wife had given me just before I left to go to Memphis. And Elvis admired the shirt. He said, "Where did you get that?" And I said, "Do you like it?" And he says, "Oh, I like it very much." I said, "I'll give you this one." So we changed shirts. I took my shirt off and gave it to him. He couldn't believe that I had given him that shirt. He was so proud of that black velour shirt. And so I got another shirt and went about our business. When he showed up in Hollywood several weeks later to start rehearsing the show, he was wearing that shirt. And I said to him, "That's a good looking shirt you're wearing there, Elvis. Where did you get that?" He said, "Well, some fan gave it to me!"

Anyway, early in the next morning, I went to the Shreveport Fairgrounds where he was to perform that evening. And Bill Black had drove me there. And I picked up a couple of things that I had made notes of and later incorporated into the film itself.
What do you think it is about Elvis that keeps fans loving him?
Kanter: I think that, first of all, Elvis was a very unique talent. I had completely misjudged him at first. I think most people my age misjudged him. He was uniquely original talent, because he combined all of the best of Black music and all of the best of Country music. And as a result, he was unique. He was just unusual. You can't forget him. Once you are exposed to his music, it's very hard to forget the man himself. I found his music was unique, unique and original. He was an original man, even though a lot of his originality is eclectic because he took from here and took from this and took from this that. I don't think that he was aware of the fact that it was taken from other people. It was something inborn, something so genuinely lyrical about the man that once you hear him and once you pay attention to him, you're not going to forget him. And I think that also here's a good actor. And I think that given time and given better scripts and more retention and less reliance on money and on lyrics and on singing, he could have been a superb motion picture actor. He could have done a lot of other things that he was never able to do under the thumbs of Tom Parker.

Paul told EIN: “Paul Lichter's Elvis In Vegas is like no other Paul Lichter book. It has taken 4 years of my life and I am extremely proud of the finished product. | 'Elvis Is Back Sessions' - Special double-VINYL version: The special 2-disc, 180-gram vinyl set is sure to make Elvis fans around the world happy because it’s been the most requested FTD album for vinyl release ever. This very limited release has been re-mastered from the original analogue tapes and includes lots of great photos from the Graceland archives in Memphis.
"Elvis Is Back!" was released in April 1960 and was Elvis’ tenth album. Recording sessions took place on March 20 and April 3, 1960, at RCA Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee. It was his first album to be released in true stereo and peaked at number two on the Top Pop Albums chart and is included in the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die." The album was certified Gold on July 15, 1999, by the RIAA.

Elvis and Us Exhibit featured in Hello Magazine: The newly opened Elvis and Us exhibit, at The Beatles Story in Liverpool, England, continues to get attention worldwide and was recently given a rave review by Hello Magazine.
Titled “The Elvis Influence”, the article starts off saying, “Liverpool may be the home of the Beatles, but there were plenty of other influences in their lives. And 'the King' was one. Now, the Fab Four's home city is hosting the unprecedented 'Elvis and Us' exhibition, which offers a chance to discover more about the relationship between these musical greats.”
The Elvis and Us exhibit will be open through 2012, and displays a fabulous array of Elvis' items previously only seen in photographs, films, and on stage such as his iconic "Jailhouse Rock" shirt.

New Elvis Museum in Germany. On November 18th the 'Elvis Museum' opens its doors in the city of Dusseldorf. Over 1500 items will be on display with a special focus on his military years 1958-1960.

"Kissed By Elvis" Janet Fulton Interview: Janet Fulton was only 13 years-old when she attended Elvis' Canadian Ottawa concert on April 3rd 1957, despite her family having great reservations.
One of the highlights of her life was not only meeting Elvis but also being kissed by him, as shown in the famous photo.
Last month Janet Fulton contacted EIN regarding some other photos she was tracking down and was kind enough to let us interview her about the experience of meeting Elvis and being a young teenage fan in the fifties.
She tells us the experience of being at Elvis' famous Canadian concert in Ottawa "the nuns were saying it was the Devil's work" - and how meeting Elvis was a totally unexpected surprise.

Elvis' Personal Leather Traveling Case on EBay; On EBay now is Elvis' Personal Leather Traveling Office Supply Case that he gave to Marty Lacker.
Described as ... One late afternoon Elvis decided he wanted to go to Lowenstein's Department Store on EP Blvd, just up the street from Graceland. On this occasion Marty and Richard Davis went with him.
While browsing and looking at various items they were in a department where they sold some leather goods and Elvis picked up this small leather zippered case that was like a travelling office supply case. It held a ruler, a very small stapler, scissors, a tape measure, a small razor, paper clips etc. He also purchased a few other things and then they returned to Graceland. Elvis went upstairs and Marty went home to finally return later that night. |

When Marty came back Elvis asked why he left, seems Elvis came back down about 20 minutes after they went home and was looking for Marty. Marty asked if he needed him to do something for him and he replied, "No, I just wanted to give you this, I thought you could use this in your work more than I can and it would be good when you go on business trips." And with that Elvis handed Marty the small leather travelling office supply kit and said, "I really bought this for you." Marty said Elvis never ceased to amaze him.

"On Stage - The Ultimate Edition" CD Misprinted!: Recently released by the Backdraft label this single CD presents the "Best of" the unreleased RCA multitracks featured in the earlier Rebooked deluxe box-set.
However it has now been discovered that the factory delivered CDRs in the digi-sleeves as opposed to printed discs.
Backdraft have published this apology and state that a replacement proper CD should be distributed FREE by your local supplier.
"Apology to all fans from Backdraft, for the major cock up on the disc, this was done beyond our control, and was not noticed until fans started receiving the package, once it was brought to our attention we immediately put into action getting the CD-R’s replace with proper factory pressed discs as what was originally ordered by us."
To be honest the CD is printed so stylishly that EIN did not notice the fault until we looked closely at the disc.

Ernst Jorgensen on 'Young Man With The Big Beat': More than 55 years have passed since 1956 and Elvis Presley’s pivotal year. The young singer’s dramatic rise is exhaustively chronicled in a new five-CD box set, “Young Man with the Big Beat". For producer Ernst Jorgensen it was a chance to reassert the true size and scope of Elvis’ impact on the world.
“He was No. 1 on the singles chart for half of that year,” Jorgensen explains. “This was totally unique, and it changed the record business forever. And I thought that the idea of just picking one year to demonstrate how significant the early success of Elvis Presley was would be a fun task to do. We thought it would be wonderful to tell this story again, because there are so many people out there who have forgotten how big Elvis was.”
In 1955 country-music DJs named Presley “Most Promising C&W Artist” and kept his Sun singles in heavy rotation from the beginning.
'Heartbreak Hotel' Elvis’ first RCA single, received enormous benefits as a result. The country DJs — many of whom actually had a sense of ownership in Presley’s success, according to Jorgensen — played the single incessantly, despite the fact that it bears no resemblance to what today is considered country music.
“In a broader commercial sense, ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ was a strange record,” Jorgensen said. “It was a No. 1 country hit for 17 weeks… |

Yet the country environment ended up having serious misgivings about Elvis in that Elvis and his music basically stole their audience. Elvis stole the show when he was performing on country shows with Hank Snow and other big names. Nobody wanted to follow Elvis anymore.”

"On Stage - The Ultimate Edition" CD Review: Released by the Backdraft label, this single CD presents the "Best of" the unreleased RCA multitracks featured in the earlier Rebooked deluxe box-set.
Rebooked at the International Hotel for a month long engagement from January 26, 1970 to February 23,1970, RCA was on hand to record his performances for a second live album eventually released as, On Stage – February 1970".
This CD features these multitrack -recordings including the unreleased leftovers made by RCA. These are the original rough mixes made by Felton Jarvis in early 1970 in preparation for the upcoming second Las Vegas live album. No repairs or overdubs whatsoever. This release brings back the original feeling and atmousphere that Elvis passed on to his audience.

Elvis 1955 Cadillac goes to auction: The 1955 Cadillac Series 75 Fleetwood limousine that Elvis Presley used to transport his band to shows all over the Southern United States will go up for auction at Bonham's Classic California sale on November 12.
This well documented car was purchased by the King in January of 1956 and immediately repainted Black. He may have died a very rich man, but in '56 Elvis still needed his father to co-sign on the car.
Unlike many older Cadillacs that head to auction with questionable Elvis ties, this Limo is a well documented car with clear proof it was owned by Presley.

The Caddy ended up at the Elvis Presley Museum in the 1990s before being put on display at the Elvis-A-Rama Museum in Las Vegas. Currently owned by a prominent Texas collector, this piece of Memphis-by-way-of-Detroit history comes with the original conditional sales contract from Southern Motors of Memphis that was co-signed by Elvis' father, Vernon Presley. Also included is the original owner's manual with Elvis' signature on the back cover, plus one spare tire, lug wrench, and jack.
Presale estimates have the Fleetwood selling somewhere between $100,000 and $150,000.

Sir Jimmy Savile Dies, aged 84: Sir Jimmy Savile was an eccentric British disc jockey and TV presenter who raised more than £40 million for charity. He was also a keen fans of Elvis, with his radio programmes guaranteed to feature hits by The King.
The flamboyant radio DJ and face of UK TV show "Jim’ll Fix It" was found dead at home in Leeds by police officers only days after he told friends he felt "indestructible". He was due to celebrate his 85th birthday tomorrow. He had recently returned home after spending 10 days in hospital with suspected pneumonia.
Savile was knighted by the Queen in 1990 for his charity work.

Savile first met Elvis in 1960 when he presented him with his first UK Gold Disc for 'It's Now Or Never', while Elvis was filming 'Wild In The Country'.
Jimmy Saville recalled the story...
.... I remember my first meeting with Elvis, when I presented him with his first British-earned Gold Disc for 'It's Now Or Never' in the winter of 1960, while he was filming 'Wild In The Country' in Hollywood. I actually didn't have an appointment or even an address when I arrived in LA with that framed disc under my arm. I just had a scrap of paper with a phone number of the Elvis Presley office in Paramount Studios, so I dialled the number and someone answered. "I've just popped over from England with this Gold record for Elvis,'" I said.

"You've what?" an incredulous voice replied, but nevertheless my enterprise got me an appointment for 3p.m. the following day. Not with Elvis, but with the 'fearsome' Colonel Parker. 'You're late boomed the Colonel at 3.30p.m. when I arrived at the studios. '"It's 6,000 miles" I protested, "And the traffic was bad!" From that moment the Colonel and I became friends, or rather, he was the professor and I was the pupil.
"Bring the boy", the colonel said to one of his assistants - and five minutes later I was shaking hands with a legend and having my photograph taken with Elvis - the first DJ ever to be allowed that privilege.
They actually stopped work on the film, for me to make the presentation of the Gold Disc. Elvis said, 'Gee, isn't it fabulous?' and then did something quite unexpected. He danced around the set, clutching the latest trophy in his hands and showing it to everyone - artistes, technicians and studio hands, even as we chatted he wouldn't put it aside or give it to someone else to take to his dressing room.

Patti Parry, Elvis’ “Little sister” has Died: EIN has confirmed the terrible news that Elvis’ good friend Patti Parry passed away this morning in hospital. We have heard that her brother took her to a hospital last night, and that she passed this morning.
Patti Parry was a good friend to EIN and was always a joy to be with, full of fun and life and wonderful stories of times spent with Elvis.
Patti Parry was one of a small number of girls who hung out with Elvis and the guys for many years in L.A. from the time they were young in the early 60s.
When EIN interviewed Patti Parry in 2003 she recalled that when she knew him .. “Elvis didn't have a Mum, he didn't have a sister so I was a girl who was around who could nurture him. He needed that nurturing. I was the only girl there and if he needed it I would give him a lot of help and a shoulder to cry on. I was his Little Sister, I was a very lucky girl. (laughing) They were lucky too!”

Elvis and Michael Jackson top Forbes 2011 List: It was a battle of music royalty for the top spot, as the King of Pop went head to head with the king of rock and roll in a battle of the hip-shakers Forbes List of High-Earning Dead Celebrities.
With a slew of merchandise, Graceland admissions and a Las Vegas show bringing his 2011 earnings to $55 million, Elvis Presley put up a valiant fight. Yet while Michael Jackson moonwalked his way into first spot with a staggering $170 million of revenue, this is a huge drop of $100 millions on what he earnt the first year after his death. A legendary back catalogue helped account for a large chunk of this and the singer's stake in the Sony/ATV (Beatles) catalogue also helped swell his coffers.
Jackson's earnings will no doubt continue to drop and will eventually fall below Elvis'. Elvis left the building 34 years ago - will Michael Jackson still be in the list in 32 years time? - EIN truly has its doubts.

Four new FTD releases for December: FTD has announced four new upcoming releases for early December....
1. 'Promised Land' - The long-awaited double-CD "Classic Album" version of 1974's 'Promised Land' album.
Recorded in December 1973 at Stax Records in Memphis, the original album was released in 1974 and is thought by some to be the best Elvis studio album from the ‘70s.
The title track, "Promised Land" was a cover of a 1965 hit by Chuck Berry and was issued as a single and hit number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and landed in the UK top ten.

"Elvis Is Back!" was released in April 1960 and was Elvis’ tenth album. Recording sessions took place on March 20 and April 3, 1960, at RCA Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee. It was his first album to be released in true stereo and peaked at number two on the Top Pop Albums chart and is included in the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die." The album was certified Gold on July 15, 1999, by the RIAA.

'Elvis Presley – A Moment in Time, 4 Days in ’56' by "Return To Tupelo" producer Michael Rose chronicles the four days from early 1956 as Elvis barnstorms from Detroit through Columbus, and finally back to Memphis and his new home at Audubon Drive - May 25 to May 28th 1956.
In Memphis for Elvis Week 2012 Ernst Jorgenson said that it was a 192 page photo book being produced as a companion release to the Sony/Legacy 5CD box set, "Young Man With The Big Beat".
Michael Rose has been working with Ernst Jorgenson for the last 12 months hunting down contacts and stories.

Elvis - The 100 Million Video Man!: Elvis remains the King of Rock & Pop as we learn that he has just over 100 youtube videos that has all had at least One Million unique views.
Elvis Matters report that the most popular Elvis clip on the web is the If I Can Dream Duet with Celine Dion, which has just over 3 million views.
However Elvis Express now shows this is not so accurate and what's more realistic is the most viewed Elvis video on Youtube has more than 31 million unique views and is the 28th most viewed Youtube video of all time.
