Did
Sinatra Contract Ruin Jones/Presley TV Duet?: Tom Jones
claims he missed the chance to perform on TV with his pal
Elvis Presley because of a contract The King had with Frank
Sinatra. Jones asked Elvis to appear on his hit TV show many
times, and Presley was keen to duet with the Welshman - but
he'd signed a contract forbidding him to appear on any show
before returning for a Sinatra special. The 63-year-old Sex
Bomb singer explains, "Colonel Parker (Elvis' manager)
wouldn't let him do it. Elvis wanted to do it, but apparently
when he did the Frank Sinatra Show in 1960 he'd signed a contract
saying that he wouldn't do guest spots on TV until he'd done
another Sinatra show. "He didn't want to sing with Sinatra
again. Well, that's what he told me anyway."

Ernst
talks Elvis with ICE magazine: RCA/BMG Heritage has January
slated for reissues of Elvis Presley’s first three albums,
Elvis, Elvis Presley and Loving You, which spent a combined
total of nearly half a year at the top of Billboard’s album
chart (25 weeks combined at #1). They won’t differ from their
previous CD incarnations, which carried several bonus tracks
each; but they will have newly mastered sound, using DSD technology,
and a dramatically reduced price from $17.98 to $11.98. "Fifty-year-old
albums at full price doesn’t work anymore," Presley reissue
producer Ernst Mikael Jorgensen told ICE. (News,

In an interview with The Times Online, Irish actor Jonathan
Rhys-Meyers takes time out from trashing Oliver Stone
and his part in Alexander – he calls Stone a "tempestuous
boy" at one point – to briefly discuss his title role
in the upcoming CBS miniseries, Elvis. "I can't ask Elvis
how he did Elvis, I can only perceive how Elvis became
Elvis. I'm trying to do my interpretation of how Elvis
is. The more raw I can make it the better it'll be," Rhys-Meyers
explained. "I'm playing Elvis – from Cork. Can you imagine?
They're paying me a fortune. (Expletive), imagine if I
turned them down," he mused. Elvis begins filming this

Organizers of Tupelo, Mississippi's Elvis Presley festival
says they're not certain about its future with a new company

was born in Tupelo and the festival brings in thousands of
visitors to the city each year. But Tupelo's deal to put Presley's

Jailhouse
Rock tops England chart on Elvis' 70th birthday: Late
US rock legend Elvis Presley, who would have celebrated
his 70th birthday last weekend, was back at the top of
the British pop charts yet again with a re-release of
his 1958 classic "Jailhouse Rock". |
|
The
single became the 999th number one in the 52-year history of
the British pop charts, and the music icon is also hot favourite
to take the all-important 1,000th top spot with another old
favourite. His British record label, SonyBMG, are sequentially
re-releasing each of Elvis's 18 previous number ones week-by-week
to mark the 70th birthday celebrations -- in what could also
be seen as a bid to break a record for consecutive number ones.
The next release, "One Night", is also heavily tipped to top
the charts, as well as a series of other singles. Elvis, who
was born on January 8, 1935, died in 1977 but still remains
one of the world's best-selling recording artists. "The King"
last topped the British charts in 2002 with "A Little Less Conversation",
a dance remix of a previously little-known song which shot to
prominence after being used in a television advertisement. (News,
Source: Yahoo News)
Jailhouse
Rock sales figures are low: Here are the UK sales figures
for last week's singles according to a post from the official
Steve Brookstein's forum site. "Jailhouse Rock" sold 21,262
copies, making this the lowest weekly and 1st week sale for
a #1 ever (another record for Elvis). "All Shook Up" sold
17,624 copies which would list this single at #2 if it had
eligable for the chart. The number of sold singles for the
#2 single by Steve Brookstein were not mentioned. Iron Maiden's
#3 sold 14,279 copies. (News, Source: ElvisNews.com)
Elvis
Odds On For 1000th Number One-bookies All Shook Up: After
taking a number of large bets, bookies William Hill have slashed
the odds on Elvis having the 1000th No.1 this weekend from
Even money to a 1/8 near certainty. On Sunday Elvis racked
up his 19th number 1 single and this weeks release of One
Night looks almost certain to rack up his 20th No.1 on Sunday.
There are a number of other contenders who are in with a sporting
chance and Hills make Ciara, a 19 year old R & B act from
the States, joint second favourite with the Scissor Sisters
at 14/1. The outsiders include The Killers 20/1, Steve Brookstein
25/1 and the Roosters at 33/1 "Last week we were offering
Even money that Elvis would have the 1000th number one but
we had not factored in the fanatical nature of Elvis fans.
Judging by the weight of money that we have seen for Elvis
it looks like the Elvis juggernaut is definitely on the road.
That said, we probably owe Elvis fans a payout as we have
a taken a number of bets over the years on Elvis to be found
alive which is currently 1000/1." said Hills spokesman Rupert
Adams Wednesday. (News, Source: rgonline.com)
Fans
celebrate Elvis' 70th birthday at Graceland: On Saturday
in Memphis, Tenn., more than 500 Presley fans gathered on
the front lawn of Graceland to celebrate the king of rock
'n' roll's 70th birthday. They sang "Happy Birthday" and cut
a cake in honor of Presley, who was born January 8, 1935,
and died at Graceland in 1977. His fans gather each year on
the anniversaries of his birth and death. This year is special,
though, for many because it would be Elvis' 70th birthday.
Jerry Engelby of Jefferson City, Mo., said age doesn't mean
much when you're talking about Elvis. "He's immortal. There's
no age to him," she said. (News, Source:

Elvis
at 70: Would the pompadour be grey? Would arthritis
have stilled the swivelling hips? Would the lip now curl above
false teeth? If he were still alive, Elvis Presley would have

being dead haven't slowed down the King as this article shows.

Elvis
lived with secret lover for three years: ELVIS PRESLEY's
alleged secret girlfriend has shocked the late rocker's fans
by describing the three years she spent at his Graceland home
during their passionate love affair. SHERRY WILLIAMS claims
she began her romance with Elvis after being introduced through
a mutual friend on her 18th birthday in 1970. Williams ended
their affair just months before Elvis divorced his wife, PRISCILLA
PRESLEY, although she insists Priscilla was aware of her husband's
infidelities, and tolerated them. The 52-year-old says, "The
first time I came back was only a year and a half ago and
it was very difficult for me. On that occasion, I had been
back since Elvis' death and went to Graceland but the emotions
of my entire time with him came flooding back. "The first
time we met, he arranged for me to stay in a room at the hotel
and told me that one of the guys would be in touch with me.
I didn't know what that meant. I was 18 at the time and very
naive girl. I had never had a boyfriend.

Elvis
comes to town: The Elvis Revival Festival in Parkes, NSW,
Australia continues to grow and grow with the weekend's activities
clearly the best in its 13 year history. Capacity crowds attended
most events during the three days of the festival - and the
street parade on Saturday morning was undoubtedly witnessed

And the good point to emerge is that everyone says they will
be returning next year! The festival was launched in fantastic
fashion with more than 300 people greeting passengers on the
Elvis Train which came up from Sydney on Friday afternoon.
Then followed the street parade on Saturday morning which
attracted huge crowds all along Clarinda Street from the Star
Hotel to Cooke Park. The atmosphere at Cooke Park was tremendous,
with everyone obviously enjoying the picturesque surrounds
and ideal weather. The various venues hosting entertainment
also reported capacity crowds, but the highlight was the Uniting

650 people in attendance. (News, Source:
