ETA in Belgian comic: For what it's worth... Elvis impersonators seem to be everywhere, even in the popular Belgian cartoon 'Kiekeboe' - as you can see by this excerpt from 'Gazet Van Antwerpen'. It's not the first time that author Merho finds his inspiration in Memphis. A few years ago, he took the liberty of using the Lisa Marie Airplane in one of his books. "2008 Ultimate Elvis Competition" announced: Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. has announced that due to the huge worldwide response and overwhelming success of this year's search, it is launching the second annual "Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest" for 2008. As with 2007, contestants will be selected at existing Elvis tribute artist contests, along with fairs, festivals and other venues holding new contests. Licensed festivals from Australia to New York have confirmed to hold preliminary contests so far, with more to follow. The qualifying rounds and finals will be held in Memphis during Elvis Week in Memphis, August 9 through 17, 2008.

"The worldwide response to the first annual competition was astounding. The contest exceeded all of our expectations," stated Paul Jankowski, Chief Marketing Officer for EPE. "Both the original and the growing new generation of Elvis fans discovered yet another way to celebrate Elvis' on-going contribution to the world of entertainment. We applaud the quality of contestants and again congratulate the winner, Shawn Klush."

"To be named The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist by Elvis Presley Enterprises was one of the most meaningful experiences in my life," stated Klush. "I am greatly humbled and honored to have received such an accolade. I just love doing what I do. I do it for Elvis and his fans." The 38-year-old was selected in the "Viva Las Franklin" preliminary contest in Franklin, TN. Since winning the title he has traveled internationally for performances and appeared on several national television programs.

Judges will be looking for the "best representation of the Elvis legacy" in talent, appearance, performance, stage presence and each contestant's overall tribute to Elvis. The best overall performer will be named the "2008 Elvis Tribute Artist of the Year."

For the 2007 competitions, 24 preliminary contests were held from Norway to New Zealand to Canada and California. For 2008, confirmed preliminary events include Coolangatta, Queensland, Australia; Arnold, Missouri; Windsor, Ontario, Canada; Lake George, New York; Tupelo, Mississippi; Penticton, British Columbia, Canada; the Boston area in Arlington, Massachusetts; and Collingwood, Ontario, Canada.

Special screening of "Jailhouse Rock" in Atlanta, Georgia: PLAZA THEATRE DANCES TO THE “JAILHOUSE ROCK” WITH ELVIS BASH Elvis impersonators and a rare screening of “Jailhouse Rock” celebrate the King’s birthday at the Historic Plaza Theatre. Are your hands shaking, your knees weak? Can’t seem to stand on your own two feet? The Historic Plaza Theatre has the cure for what ails you with a special ELVIS BASH on January 12 to commemorate what would’ve been Elvis Presley’s 72nd birthday.

ELVIS BASH begins with a special Iron Elvis competition when five Elvis Presley tribute artists take the stage to see who will be crowned king. As the Elvises sing the timeless classics live on stage, vote on who has the best studded jumpsuit, lip curl and hip swivel. Performers include award-winning Elvis tribute artist Dana Daniels.

Audience members who know their Elvis trivia may walk away with prizes, too. And don’t miss the girls, girls, girls of Blast Off Burlesque as they dance to Elvis’ greatest hits.

A rare screening of one of Elvis’ most critically acclaimed films “Jailhouse Rock” follows. The 1957 flick tells the story of Vince Everett (Presley), an ex con with rock ‘n’ roll in his soul. After getting out of the big house, he becomes a singing sensation. But will success spoil Vince? Songs include “(You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care,” “Don’t Leave Me Now” and “Jailhouse Rock.”

Stuff an Elvis fan’s stocking this Christmas with a pair of ELVIS BASH tickets. The show takes places Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 8 p.m. All seats are $12. Advance tickets are available at the Plaza Theatre box office and at www.plazaatlanta.com. Plaza Theatre, 1049 Ponce de Leon Ave., Atlanta GA 30306. 404-873-1939, www.plazaatlanta.com. ETA ties the knot: LOVE Me Tender was high on the songlist when an Elvis Presley impersonator and his bride tied the knot on Saturday. For Bill Wilkinson, who has been a professional tribute act for four years, decided to stick with the Elvis theme for his wedding to fiancee Susan Bonner.

And whilst they were "all shook up" by the torrential rain and gusting wind which greeted them outside Bury Register Office, it did not spoil the occasion. The couple first met during one of Bill's gigs at the Bay Horse pub, in Stand Lane, Radcliffe, in October 2005. Bill said: "Susan wasn't a big Elvis fan until she met me. She loves Elvis now though and we went to Memphis together earlier this year."

Instead of the formal suit traditionally favoured by bridegrooms, Bill wore a white jumpsuit with blue and red beaded tassles for the ceremony.

The couple, of Stand Lane, Radcliffe, included Elvis songs in their ceremony, with the Hawaiian Wedding Song playing as they entered the room. The registrar even got involved by wearing a gold jacket and Elvis-style sunglasses, and guests donned Hawaiian costumes. Susan (47), who works as a senior carer at Heathlands Village, Prestwich, wore a traditional wedding gown though. Bill (49) said: "It was more fun having an Elvis-themed wedding, especially in the winter. Most people are Elvis fans so they could all join in. Our family and friends really got into the spirit of it."

The theme continued past the ceremony as the couple and their guests went to Moorside Farm pub in Swinton for a reception. Best man, Dave Futcher, mentioned a series of Elvis songs in his speech, and Gracelands was the inspiration for their wedding cake. Bill even performed a 45-minute set at the reception, which was recorded and will be used as promotional footage on his website. He said: "It's stressful leading up to any wedding. It was even worse than a gig."

Bill decided to become an Elvis impersonator after discovering that he could sing like The King' on a karaoke night on holiday in Majorca seven years ago. He continued to perform at karaoke nights until he decided to give up his day job and become a full-time impersonator four years ago. Since then, he has established himself with residencies at pubs in Swinton and Eccles, and bookings at weddings and birthday parties.

Elvis to appear at BCT: BEAVERCREEK –Elvis, aka Ryan Roth of Englewood, will present a special show to benefit the theater’s lighting fund at 8 p.m. Jan. 12.

The Elvis impersonator is a 1986 graduate of Beavercreek High School, where he was a member of the Friends Show Choir. In 1988 he had his own show at Cedar point, doing ‘50s and ‘60s rock-n-roll, and over the years he’s performed in a variety of other venues including the Grand Victoria Casino, The Fraze Pavilion, TNN: The Nashville Network and the Bell Terra Casino.

“The show that I am going to do will feature two sets. The opening set will feature rock-n-roll oldies from the ‘50s to the ‘80s. The second set will be Elvis,” he said.

“Elvis was a big musical influence for me very early on.”

Roth has been performing for the last three years at Snickers in New Lebanon.

Tickets for the Jan. 12 performance are $10 per person. Tickets can be reserved by leaving a message at (937) 429-4737 or e-mailing boxoffice@bctheatre.org. They can also be purchased online at www.bctheatre.org.

Beavercreek Community Theatre is located within the Lofino Senior Enrichment and Cultural Arts Center at 3868 Dayton-Xenia Road in Beavercreek, Ohio.

Local psychiatrists portray 'The King' as a way for them to connect with patients:

The performer wore a red jumpsuit studded in gold and sunglasses rimmed in silver. His velvety voice and smooth moves -- pumping his right arm to the slow pace of ''Can't Help Falling in Love'' and tossing scarves into the crowd -- evoked laughter, cheers and whistles from an audience that spilled out of a Bethlehem clinic room and into a hall.

''I love you, Elvie,'' one woman yelled before flinging a pair of pantyhose onto the plywood stage.Fans know the performer better when he dons a suit and tie and asks, ''Are you lonesome tonight?'' without bursting into song.

He is Dr. Carlos ''Elvis'' Velas, a 70-year-old psychiatrist on staff at the Lehigh Valley Community Mental Health Center, where the show took place, and at other clinics in Bethlehem and Quakertown.

So passionate about Presley is he that Velas belts out his best impression of the ''king of rock 'n' roll'' just to entertain himself and his patients. And believe it or not, he's not the only one. Fellow psychiatrist Sung Park, 67, of Orefield, a lifelong fan who works at mental health clinics in Allentown and Bethlehem, finds impersonating Elvis therapeutic as well.

''They enjoy it,'' Velas said of mental health patients who might otherwise be anxious, ill at ease or depressed. ''Most are shy, embarrassed, fearful. But when they come here, they feel safe.''

Velas needs little provocation to perform at holidays, concerts and his own family reunions. He doesn't sing for money or in competitions such as the worldwide Images of the King contest in Tennessee, where officials remember a cardiologist and several chiropractors competing, but no psychiatrists.

Park performs less often these days than Velas but has more costumes -- about a half-dozen, all made by his wife, Chung Sook Park. Singing and dressing like Elvis, he said, helps patients see him as someone easier to relate to.

''Elvis Presley was not just a great entertainer,'' Park said. ''He also was a great communicator.''

The two have been paying tribute to the legend for more than 20 years.

Neither doctor carries the persona into his work treating and diagnosing mental illness -- although Velas' small office at the Bethlehem clinic is crammed with Elvis memorabilia: a clock with legs that swing back and forth, a rug wall-hanging of his face, albums and ticket stubs.

''Onstage, I wear a costume and sing and act like Elvis,'' Park said. ''When I take off the costume, I'm strictly a physician.''

The psychiatrists see their impersonations as good fun. So do other mental health professionals.

''We measure maturity by one's capacity to work, love and play,'' said Robert Gordon, a local psychologist. ''To think that one is Elvis is not good. …To impersonate Elvis is playful and good.''

Mick Gardner, a psychotherapist on staff at the Lehigh Valley Community Mental Health Center with Velas, said it benefits patients to see their doctor as relaxed and confident enough to stand up in front of them and do something out of character. Gardner has seen Velas' act three times. ''He's got a good voice and attracts more people each time,'' he said.

Velas and Park met at the Allentown State Hospital, where both worked for years before retiring and working at area outpatient mental health clinics. Yet they say their proclivity for Presley began independently, nurtured by a love of music.Velas, who grew up in the Philippines, plays the harmonica and used to play the clarinet and accordion. He's sung like Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Englebert Humperdinck, Billy Joel and Elton John. But his parents so adored Elvis that they gave the name to Velas' youngest brother.

Park hails from a spiritual South Korean family that sings and plays the piano and saxophone. He was a teenager, he said, when he first became fascinated with Elvis, his military service, gold records and bad boy image.

''Driving a pink Cadillac, he represented the American dream,'' Park recalled.

The doctors enjoy the cachet of imitating someone so loved around the world. They're also careful not to overdose fans by taking the same stage as Elvis. At the clinic Christmas concert in Bethlehem, Velas was the star attraction, singing about 20 songs in an hour and a half. About a foot shorter and almost 30 years older than Elvis at the time of his death, Velas played the part more than he looked it. He waited until the last minute to emerge from his office-turned-dressing room, posed for photos, and autographed concert programs.

Some selections seemed handpicked for the house: ''Blue Christmas,'' ''Suspicious Minds'' and ''Welcome to My World.'' During ''Suspicious Minds,'' Velas' favorite, the singer stopped mid-song to ask, ''What time is it?'' and show off the Elvis watches on both his wrists.

''Elvis time!'' the crowd shouted back. ''Thank you. Thank you very much,'' Velas said in his best Filipino-Southern drawl.

When the show ended, Helen Appel gave her former therapist a hug. Having made the trip from New Jersey just to see Velas, she told him, ''You were awesome.'' Added Appel, ''I loved him as a person, therapist and as Elvis.''

IMITATING THE KING: The first Elvis impersonators appeared while the singer was still alive, but the numbers of acts multiplied after his death Aug. 16, 1977, at age 42.

An authentic Elvis jumpsuit can cost anywhere from $400 to $4,000.

One of the longest-running national Elvis impersonator competitions, ''Images of the King'' contest in Tennessee, started 21 years ago and still attracts more than 100 contestants annually.

Allentown boasts 105 professional Elvis impersonators, who charge $150 to $5,200 a gig. (News, Source: Ann Wlazelek | Of The Morning Call 16/12/07)

Elvis Welsh Porthcawl Festival: The King has left the building for good. But thirty years after his death, the legend lives on in the unlikely surroundings of South Wales.  Even before 1977 there were as many as 150 Elvis impersonators, or ETAs (Elvis Tribute Artists), as they demand to be called. Thirty years on, there are more than 30,000 in the US alone. Add to that thousands-strong detachments in Asia and Europe, and fans optimistically predict that at the current rate, one in 10 people on Earth will be an ETA by 2020.  In Britain, Presley-mania thrives at convention centres and themed restaurants from Greenock to Greenwich, but its unlikely centre is the seaside resort of Porthcawl. Yes, Elvis has entered Glamorgan. On an autumn weekend for the past four years, the former miners' retreat has been transformed as a glittering army of 60 sequinned and coiffed ETAs strut their stuff at the Porthcawl Elvis Festival, hoping to walk away with a coveted Elvie award. Go here for the full story. (Source: Naveen)

Two EPE sponsored ETA contests in Australia in 2008?: EPE has informed the TCB Fan Club in Queensland:

"Thanks for your responses. The reason we need this information is because as we continue to develop our ETA program we want to know if there is enough of demand for ETA's outside US to have multiple contests in other countries such as Australia. We are hopeful that there will be at least two contests in Australia this year affiliated with EPE. There was no guy named Bardo in our contest. This information is inaccurate and others have spread similar inaccuracies but I do assure you and please assure your fan club that the only way to compete in the ETA finals is by winning a prelim. Have a great week." (Almost Elvis, Source: Chris Bamford, Dec 2007)

Top Aussie ETAs set to rock Sydney: AUSTRALIA'S top Elvis tribute artists will come together in Elvis Lives, a 30th anniversary tribute concert at the Roxy Parramatta this Sunday, December 16th 2007. The concert, with Paul Fenech, Danny Tupelo, Elias2Elvis and female interpreter She is the King, will feature songs from the 1950s, '60s and '70s.

Elias2Elvis combines Presley's vocal and physical delivery.

"The feeling of performing in an Elvis jumpsuit, singing his songs is something hard to explain unless you've done it," he said. "It becomes a mutual celebration between performer and audience reflecting the man who revolutionised music and became a worldwide icon."

Paul Fenech has been performing for more than 12 years and worked in Las Vegas, Singapore, Malaysia, Andorra, Israel and New Zealand.

Just back from Memphis, She is the King will perform songs from her debut album as well as some of the more gospel and country orientated Elvis songs. She was invited to perform at Graceland and competed in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Competition in Mississippi this year.

With over 15 years' experience Danny Tupelo brings Elvis to life. His looks, combined with his Elvis sound-a-like voice really gets the fans' hearts thumping. The Roxy, 69 George Street, Parramatta. Bookings: theroxy.com.au (Source: Charmaine Voisine)

Mark's own Blue Christmas: SELBY'S very own Elvis impersonator is hitting the stage after a successful tour of Cyprus.

Mark Summers, who dubs himself as Cyprus's number one Elvis impersonator, will be appearing at Bishopthorpe Social Club, near York, in a Christmas extravaganza of The King. Having had a six-month sell-out tour of Cyprus, Mark says he has now been endorsed by the Official Fan Club Of Elvis Presley - one of only three UK tribute acts to get the accolade.

The 24-year-old, who is originally from Selby, performs all of Elvis's hits from the GI years through to his days in Las Vegas - three decades worth of music - with all his costumes coming direct from the USA. Talking about his show, Mark said: "It's something for everybody, full of energy, excitement.

"This is the best show yet, Elvis fans will love it."

The singer has recently signed up with a management company in Essex and is now planning on bringing Elvis to all the corners of the UK over the next 18 months with additional short tours planned abroad.

He said: "Touring is the hardest part, been away from family and friends. We are flat out in 2008, all over the world."

Mark will be appearing at Bishopthorpe Sports And Social Club on Saturday, December 15, from 8pm. The show will be followed by a disco and a bar is available. Tickets for the show are available now priced at £5 for advance bookings or £6 on the door. Christmas parties are welcome. How about a Christmas party with Elvis in the house?: CHESAPEAKE - This Christmas, why not give your loved one a bit of hunka-hunka burnin' love? Chesapeake is home to two of the top Elvis tribute artists in the area in Sterling Riggs and Jim Smith.
And both entertainers will take their Elvis acts to your home for a birthday or anniversary party, graduation, family reunion or anniversary get-together.

Riggs, a South Norfolk native, has been swinging the King's thing for 13 years. When not performing with backing rhythm tapes, he appears at bigger events, corporate meetings, festivals and concerts with his TKC (The King's Court) Band, a group that's been with him for 11 years.

He regularly performs up and down the East Coast and at the Beach's Viva Elvis festival, having won its first sound-alike-look-alike competition. He's sung with Elvis' legendary backing vocal group The Jordanaires, and is part of an annual "Cruisin' with the King Tribute Cruise" out of Orlando, Fla.

"I generally do the '70s Vegas show with a jumpsuit," Riggs said. "I may do the '50s Elvis, but I'm more into the jumpsuit flash. That's me: nice 'n' gaudy!"

Smith's been a Kingly performer since 1990, having slowly developed his Elvis persona while working as a drummer for various bands. When not doing Presley for small private functions, he also does concerts, bigger corporate gigs and festivals with his Memories Band.

Smith won Virginia's Graceland-sanctioned Ultimate Elvis competition earlier this year, earning him the right to perform in Memphis for the national finals. He's worked with The Stamps Quartet, Elvis' backing gospel vocal group; and on Dec. 14 he'll headline oldies DJ legend "Rockin'" Ron Cade's "Elvis & Friends Tribute Christmas Concert" in Philadelphia.

"I like to customize my shows," Smith said. "The costume is left up to me. I show up in street clothes and then I change prior to going on."

And tapping into Presley's own charitable personality, both Smith and Riggs routinely support and perform for a host of worthy causes from raising funds for friends and neighbors and performing at area nursing homes to helping raise money for such causes as Vets House, the Joy Fund and the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

If you're looking to engage either Elvis, Riggs will give you either a half-hour show for $300 or an hour performance for $500. For either, he'll use his own equipment and backing tapes. Smith, too, brings his own gear and backing tracks and will channel the King for about 45 minutes, charging $150 to $300. Both will give you total Elvis, performed with acute accuracy, fun and attention to details.

"I have fun with the people," Smith said. "I mingle, give scarves, I work with people the best I can."

Riggs, like the real King, enjoys engaging members of whatever function he's working.

"It's high energy and fun," he said. "I bring a couple of teddy bears and a few scarves to give away."

To contact Jim Smith, call 757-546-5292 or 287-6224 or visit jimksmith.com. For Sterling Riggs, call him at 757-482-0967 or go to www.sterlingriggs.com.

Elvis Extravaganza

Please note that the Laughlin event IS on SUNDAY and MONDAY January 6 & 7, 2008

http://www.elviscontest.com/laughlin/laughlin.html

ETA concert in Bluefield: BLUEFIELD — For everyone who monitors such things, mark down Bluefield as the latest location for an Elvis sighting. When Matt Elvis Dollar — no kidding, that’s his real full name — drifted into Bluefield Area Arts Center Wednesday during the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce holiday reception, all heads turned in the direction of the man who would be a king.

“Elvis is here...Elvis is here,” Debbie Maynard said. Maynard is executive vice president of the chamber. “He kissed me right here on the cheek and handed me a scarf.”

For more than a quarter of a century, Dollar, 35, of Bristol, Tenn., has worked as an Elvis Tribute Artist. It’s a full-time job for Dollar who has a passionate appreciation for everything about Elvis Aaron Presley, the undisputed “King of Rock-n-Roll.” Dollar comes by his passion for the King naturally. His mother, the late Patsy Dollar, loved Presley so much that she and her husband Gene Dollar, got married on the same day that Elvis and Priscilla Presley wed.

“I’m me,” Dollar said, “but I always tell anyone who asks that we’re simply here to pay tribute to Elvis. Our shows are family oriented. Everything is clean. We even do religious songs as part of our shows. We try to emphasize the impact that Elvis had on the world. Elvis came to my little town 32 years ago, and people are still talking about it like it just happened. He had an impact on everyone.”

Presley was born Jan. 8, 1935 and died Aug. 16, 1977. Within four or five years of Presley’s death, Dollar started dressing up in jumpsuits similar to the ones Presley performed in. By the time he was 11 years old, Dollar was on stage with his own Elvis tribute program, performing for an audience of 600 fans. When he was in high school at Tennessee High School in Bristol, Tenn., the same school that produced coaching great Steve Spurrier, Dollar sported sideburns and an Elvis hair style.

“I got beat up a lot,” Dollar said. His high school friend, Brian Pappas, who helps Dollar when he (Pappas) isn’t at his day job as a materials handler, confirmed that Dollar took his licks for his looks, but also pointed out that schoolmates who now enjoy his concerts, “come up and say they’re sorry for the way they mistreated Matt,” Pappas said.

When he was visiting family in Bristol, Tenn., Chris Dorton, circulation director of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph caught Dollar’s act, and thought he would be a great draw for a concert aimed at raising funds for the Telegraph’s Newspapers In Education program, a program that enables the newspaper to provide newspapers to area schools for use as educational material.

Dorton and Chuck Sullins, circulation manager of the Telegraph, started working out a plan for a NIE Benefit Concert, and enlisted the help of Tom Colley, executive editor of the Telegraph, who is a big Elvis fan.

“It was great watching the two of them (Dollar and Colley) at lunch (Wednes-day),” Sullins said. “You could almost see the wheels spinning in Tom’s head as he was trying to come up with a trivia question that would stump Matt.”

“Any I could get the answer out when he was half-way through the question,” Dollar said. “I really enjoyed talking with Mr. Colley. He really knows a lot about Elvis.”

When his parents bought Presley records for him, Dollar did not take the cellophane wrapping off them. “I’ve saved everything — even all the jumpsuits I’ve worn through the years,” Dollar said. As he flipped through an album full of clippings, Dollar pointed out an 1998 article that showed him with his personal Elvis collection that he estimated in value at more than $40,000.

But Dollar has done more than collect Elvis scarfs and eyeglasses. Dollar has traveled extensively in the King’s footsteps and has be-friended Elvis’s friends including Charlie Hodge, who died in March of 2006. Hodge entered the U.S. Army with Elvis, and after the two men were discharged, he moved to Graceland and became a close confidant.

Dollar sings other songs including two recently released CDs titled, “Hooked on Music,” and “Cash,” a tribute to Johnny Cash. But he does more than sing and play guitar. Dollar sews his own costumes, and works day and night to prepare for a show whether it’s playing for a crowd of 1,000 people as the opening act for the Drifters, or performing at a nursing home. “I do lots of charity work,” he said. “We work hard at this. It’s a full-time job.”

In addition to presenting a wholesome family-oriented show, Dollar dedicates “Always on My Mind” and “Welcome To My World” to his mother at every show. He pronounces with pride that he has never smoked or used alcohol in his life. “I have no idea where I’d be in life if it weren’t for Elvis,” Dollar said. “He opened the door of opportunity for so many people. He was a great supporter of his community and opened the door for a lot of black artists to reach white audiences.”

Dollar will appear in concert on behalf of the Telegraph’s NIE program in Bluefield at 7 p.m., on Jan, 11, 2008, at the Bluefield High School Auditorium 535 West Cumberland Rd.,. Bluefield, WV

"Elvis to the Max" back in Australia

DEFINED as the world's leading tribute artist to the absolute King of Rock N Roll, Max Pellicano, will be touring Australia at the end of the year.

Pellicano will be paying a particularly special visit to Perth for an exclusive New Year’s Eve show.

See in the New Year with Elvis to the Max in a special "That's The Way It Was" live show, which features a string orchestra, taking you through the magic that is Elvis from 1969 to 1977.

Befitted with authentic costumes, you will find yourself moved in time. Starting with the 1969 Las Vegas Hilton International show where Elvis wore the "Fringe" outfit, onto the 1973 Aloha From Hawaii evening featuring the legendary "American Eagle" jumpsuit. Lastly, Max recreates the 1977 "CBS Special - Elvis in Concert" final show where the King wore his famous "Sundial" suit.

Based in Detroit, Max loves Australia so much that he has come back to do his second tour this year, with his August tour, touring with The Beatnix, (with most shows selling out) causing an incredible stir amongst fans across the nation.

Long considered to be the best in the world in the art of honouring the King, Max Pellicano has inspired many a critic to rave about his performances; Tens of thousands of people world-wide have stood in amazement as Max Pellicano delivers a flawless tribute to The King that can only be considered ‘breathtaking’.

Everything about Max is just like The King. He is a haunting clone of the pelvis-swivelling King of Rock n Roll. Pellicano looks like, sings like and cavorts on stage like Elvis at his absolute best. The legend lives on through Max Pellicano.

Elvis set to appear at First Night: A show that sponsors say is as close as today’s audiences can get to an actual Elvis Presley concert will be the grand finale of an evening of performances Dec. 31 during First Night Ada, a community celebration of the New Year.

Kraig Parker, a nationally known Elvis impersonator, will perform Elvis’ classic songs in flashy Elvis costumes, complete with a band and female singers, at 11 p.m. in East Central University’s Kerr Activities Center. His high-energy show will end shortly before midnight, followed by a countdown to the New Year and one of Ada’s biggest fireworks shows at Norris Stadium.

Parker’s show includes the Royal Tribute Band, “the world’s premiere Elvis tribute showband,” with musicians and vocalists who have recreated the sounds of Elvis in concert and “the way it was.”

Elvis look-alike, sound-alike and “Jeopardy” contests also are planned for children ages 6-12, teens 13-19 and adults 20 and older.

First Night is an alcohol-free public festival that marks the passage from the old year to the new through the arts. All First Night celebrations are licensed by First Night International and adhere to a set of standards.

Ada has the only First Night event in Oklahoma. The activities, all on the ECU campus, will begin at 6 p.m. with 40 different performing groups ranging from country music to the big band sound and rock and roll. Many will perform simultaneously at one of seven venues.

Admission buttons that will allow entry to all First Night performances are now on sale at a number of Ada businesses for $10. The price will increase to $15 on Dec. 31. Groups of five or more can purchase buttons for $8 each, and children age 5 and younger will be admitted free.

The buttons, which were designed by ECU senior Corey Fetters, will not cover the cost of food or beverages that will be offered by six vendors around the campus.

The inaugural First Night Ada is being organized by community members and is supported by contributions from individuals and organizations. Sponsors of groups or rooms will have their names displayed at the location, said Tommye Rafes, the originator of Ada’s celebration. Donations can be made by contacting Mary Ruth Barnes, ECU director of advancement activities, at 580-559-5611.

More information about the event is available from Rafes at tommyerafes@aol.com  or on the Internet at www.firstnightada.com .

“I’ve been amazed at how the community has pulled together,” Rafes said “Almost everyone is performing for free. There is only one performer, other than the finale, that we are paying, and he’s not from the area. He’s a magician for the kids.”

Volunteers are still needed, and those who volunteer at least two hours will receive a free button, she added. Buttons can be purchased at the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce, Ada Ford, Ada Nissan, Citizens Bank locations, ECU Credit Union, First United Bank locations, Gem Jewelers, Landmark Bank, Lee’s Pharmacy, Service Automall, Vision Bank locations and Zachrey’s.

Children's Hospital Show (North Carolina, USA)

The Levine Childrens Hospital in Charlotte, NC is opening their new facility. The largest one between Washington, DC and Atlanta, Ga.. It was opened to be able to serve more children with Cancer.

Elvis Tribute Artist Roy Gaddy and The Blues Brothers Review will be doing a show for the children around the first of December. The date is not yet set in stone. We are waiting on the committee to give us a date to appear.  When I mentioned to the director about doing a show for the kids, she was puzzled as to why I wanted to do this for them. You see, a couple of months back I performed in the Town of Albemarle, NC. During the show a little girl approached the stage, and I give her a scarf and a kiss on the forehead. After the show, this little girl wanted my autograph and said this to me. " I want you to know the song you sang was just for me." The song was "You Gave Me A Mountain". She said "I am climing a mountain too, cause I am sick" Her mother happended to be standing behind her and said the word CANCER. My heart broke, and I knelt down and began to take some time with this little girl that I meant something to. We as ETA's never know who we are reaching when we are performing and paying tribute to Elvis. His music is still touching people today. I was saddened when the director said that NO ONE has ever offered to do anything for these kids in the past.

Knowing this, I wanted to carry the show one step farther. I now have a couple who are going with me to play Mr. and Mrs. Clause.  I want to make this a very special visit for the children in the hospital. I just want to brighten their day. . We are told that we will be seeing about 50 children. After the show myself and Mr. and Mrs. Clause are going to the childrens rooms and give them Christmas gifts. I would like to have some new Elvis Dolls to give to the children. I already have a few stuffed animals, some beany babies, and board games donated. But I would really like to have some Elvis Dolls to give to the children to commemorate the visit.

So I am sending out a request to Elvis fans to purchase a new Elvis doll and send it to ROY GADDY PO BOX 340 POLKTON, NC 28135 USA. Please no monetary donations just  dolls for the children. I know it will put a smile on their face. We have to have all donations in by Nov. 25. We are looking to perform somewhere between Nov 30th and Dec. 14th.  I will send you a note to give to a show date as soon as they get it to me.  I have had to sign papers and wait for approval because of security sanctions at the hospital. This is why I am waiting on the committee to give me a date. We can not take candy, fruit, or breakable toys that may choke children. We also can not take cameras or have media coverage of the event, because the children can't be photographed without permission of parents. The hospital staff is excited about us coming to perform. It will be a first for them. I just want to make it special. I would appreciate help from the fans. Thank You Very much

Sincerely,
Roy Gaddy
Elvis Tribute Artist

The King to help raise money for recreation center

By CAROLE DECK, Correspondent
Intelligencer Journal

NEW HOLLAND, Pa. - The capital campaign to raise $10 million for the New Holland Recreation Center is still $1.9 million short of its goal.

According to director of development Daryl Groff, the remaining funds will be raised through community fundraising efforts.

And the first of those fundraisers will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at Liberty Fire Hall, 339 E. Main St., New Holland, and will feature Elvis Presley impersonator Jeff Krick performing "A Tribute to Elvis." Doors open at 6 p.m.

"No one can replace Elvis … his music will never die," event chair Barry Hoffard said.

"I saw Jeff … do a concert last February and thought it would be a great fundraiser for the recreation center," Hoffard said.

Krick, from Leesport, has been performing as Elvis for 17 years. The 40-year-old said he started singing Elvis songs at the age of 10, but didn't sing professionally until 1990.

"I love his music," Krick said. "He was the first rock 'n' roll icon, and he had the total package — voice, moves, looks."

Krick has performed all over the U.S. and Canada at concerts, clubs, conventions, private and corporate parties, restaurants as well as aboard cruise ships.

He made his television debut in August, with a guest appearance on "It's Your Call with Lynn Doyle" that highlighted the 30th anniversary of Presely's death.

He's also won many awards in Elvis impersonator contests.

Krick had his own band for 15 years, but it disbanded and he now uses a background music track. He tours with the Stamps Quartet from Nashville twice a year.

This is the first year Krick is employed full time as an Elvis tribute artist.

He put aside his degree in computer programming and employment in accounting to perform.

Krick said his concert will have all of Elvis' hits, like "Jailhouse Rock," "Hound Dog" and "All Shook Up."

Hoffard said the cost for the two-hour concert is $20 for adults and $10 for children under age 12. The cost includes beverages and snacks.

He said there are 300 seats available at the Liberty Fire Hall, and more than 100 have already been sold.

To order tickets, call Hoffard at 717-354-7183 or visit Radio Shack, 331 E. Main St., New Holland. You can call Radio Shack for tickets at 717-354-2200.

"It's an inexpensive night out for a great cause," Hoffard said.

ELVIS MOVIE "BLUE HAWAII"

In the romantic comedy film "Blue Hawaii" (1961) Elvis plays the part of Chad Gates, who returns to Hawaii from serving in the army two years.  His parents want him to work in their pineapple plantation, but he wants to make a go of it on his own.  His mom is played by Angela Lansbury.  He works with his girlfriend, Maile Duval (Joan Blackman, who also appeared in Elvis' tenth movie, "Kid Galahad"), as a tourist guide. Problems ensue including Chad getting thrown in jail, and being fired. However, as is the classic Hollywood Film - everything works out in the end! :)

Scenery is gorgeous !!

The songs include "Blue Hawaii", "Almost Always True", "Rock-A-Hula Baby", "Beach Boy Blues", "Hawaiian Sunset", "Moonlight Swim", "No More", "Slicin' Sand", "Hawaiian Wedding Song", "Island of Love", and one of Elvis' most popular love songs, "Can't Help Falling in Love".  Later Elvis used this song as a finale in his concerts.

Ultimate ETA Shawn Klush gets the Royal Treatment:  He made news around the world when he became King of the King impersonators. And he’s a local boy, whose hometown wants to treat him royally. So when Shawn Klush, who was named the “Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist” in Memphis, Tenn., on Aug. 17, comes back off the road to rest back in Pittston, the hometown folks want to honor him. City fathers would like to have something downtown, maybe a parade or a concert, City Councilman Joseph McLean said, adding, “We have to try to put things hastily together.”

Klush, 38, won the championship round of a series of Elvis tribute contests held around the world. Besides bragging rights, Klush won $5,000 in cash, a $5,000 shopping trip to Graceland’s souvenir shops, $3,000 toward a new Elvis jumpsuit and other prizes. EPE, managers of Graceland and the majority of Presley’s estate, crowned Klush the new king, said his manager, Dan Lentino.

It was the first contest ever sponsored by the late rock star’s estate. But just how his hometown will honor him is not yet decided, Pittston Mayor Joseph Keating said. “We don’t know what costs are involved,” he said. “If nothing else, we’ll probably proclaim a Shawn Klush Day.” It might be a few weeks before Klush is back in town, the mayor said. “We have somebody that’s talking to his manager,” he said. Klush has been touring the northeastern United States, and is scheduled for a South American tour next weekend. The tribute contest in Memphis was part of a week-long series of concerts, dances and memorials in memory of Presley, who died at Graceland, his Memphis residence, on Aug. 16, 1977. Klush, decked out in a white jumpsuit, sang “My Way,’’ “Bridge Over Troubled Water’’ and “You Gave Me A Mountain.’’
“I worked with his father, going back to the 70s,” Keating said. “I could remember him telling me how his kid was always idolizing Elvis. "He got pretty good at it.”

Trent Carlini of Las Vegas will carry the Longview mantle to the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist competition in the King's hometown in August, after besting 18 other tribute artists in the local preliminaries Saturday.

"Love Me Tender in Longview, Texas," was one of 24 rounds taking place nationally in the first Elvis tribute competition authorized by Elvis Presley Enterprises.

Local producer Carol Shahin declared the Longview show, which featured morning performances leading to evening finals, an enthusiastic success. She credited the Longview audience.

"All of my ETAs, my Elvis Tribute Artists, said, 'This audience — we've never performed for an audience like this,' " she said, explaining that most of them said they are used to crowds rooting for one contestant and sitting on their hands for the rest of the show.

"But here they didn't see that, and they said, 'Man, I want to come back and perform in Texas. The Texas audience is unlike any other audience.' And I said, I told y'all. They were on their feet many times through the night."

In addition to winning the right to swivel against the best Aug. 12 in Memphis, Carlini won $1,500 cash Saturday and an $800 certificate good toward B and K Enterprises, the company that made Elvis' jumpsuits and sells replicas. Tribute artist Nathan Belt of Grapevine earned second place, $700 cash and a $500 certificate. Third place, with $500 cash and a $250 certificate, went to Vince King of Houston.

Proceeds from the show are dedicated to Neal McCoy's Angel Network, and Shahin said Sunday that she was still tallying the take. She said Carlini had donated one-third of his cash winnings to McCoy's nonprofit foundation, which supports families with children facing disabling diseases. Shahin said she plans to produce another Elvis contest in the 2008 preliminaries. Before then, she added that she hopes to bring Saturday's three winners back to Longview to perform.

"Those three guys, they were awesome," she said. "I sure would love to have the winner of the Ultimate Elvis contest from Love Me Tender in Longview, Texas, be the one that gets picked (in Memphis)." (News, Source: Charmaine Voisine, 26 June 2007)

ETA breaks world record: One of Quebec's best-known Elvis impersonators believes he has broken his own world record by singing songs by the King non-stop for two days.Beginning Sunday night in Delson, a suburb southwest of Montreal, Gaétan Lalonde of St-Jerome, sang a rotation of 44 tunes over the course of 46 hours and 30 minutes. He will now file documents from his attempt to officials in charge of the Guinness World Records book. Lalonde, who also goes by the name Scotty Davis, was allowed a 15-minute break every four hours. An Elvis impersonator for more than 20 years, Lalonde set two similar Guinness records, singing for 42 hours and 30 minutes in 2004 and 44 hours and one minute in 2005.Before he started this time, he said his game plan was to mix ballads and slower songs with outbursts of faster tunes, such as Jailhouse Rock. He also said he would consume energy drinks and limit his food intake. He told CBC News on Wednesday that he ran into a spot of trouble just before the half-way mark."At 20 hours, I felt a little bit different. I felt, in my throat, just a little bit, that it hurt," Lalonde said.Although he ultimately was fine, "this time, I just felt a little bit nervous," he added. A medical crew was also on hand to check him out at the end.

Lalonde staged his latest attempt as a fundraiser for local underprivileged children and estimates he raised a few thousand dollars. (June 2007)

Ed Enoch working to keep Elvis memory alive: To Ed Enoch, the death of Elvis Presley seems like it was only a few days ago, not 30 years.

“It’s a time to remember,” said Enoch, a member of Elvis’ backup band J.D. Sumner and the Stamps. “Elvis was an employer, a friend and like a brother. It was all of those emotions put together. Elvis was a great entertainer and gave a great gift to society.”

Enoch, 64, of Nashville, Tenn., continues to tour the country with The Stamps, a gospel quartet. Sumner died in 1998, and Enoch took over the ownership and management of the Stamps’ name in 2003. Enoch and the Stamps will perform a concert with Reidland native Terry Mike Jeffrey at 7 p.m. July 14 at the Kenneth Shadowen Performing Arts Center at Marshall County High School. The annual concert featuring gospel music and Elvis tunes draws nearly 1,000 people, said Jeff Waters of WCBL-FM radio in Benton.

The concert normally is in August, but Waters said the date was moved up this year because of Jeffrey’s and the Stamps’ commitments to perform during the 30th anniversary celebration of Presley’s death. Elvis died on Aug. 16, 1977. The concert also traditionally fell on the same weekend as the Fancy Farm Picnic and the Benton Watermelon Bust.

“These guys are such great entertainers for one thing,” Waters said. “Then there’s the Elvis connection.”

Jeffrey performs at Elvis tribute concerts throughout the country and traditionally performs during the celebration in Memphis of Presley’s death.

“It’s a great show,” Waters said. “The first year we had Terry Mike Jeffrey, we were blown away at how good the show was. The last two years, we have booked them for a return on the day of the show. They truly enjoy performing with each other. It’s something that we have a lot of fun with.”

The show is a benefit for the Marshall County Arts Commission. Tickets are $10 and available at WCBL and WCCK radio stations, all branches of the Bank of Benton in Marshall County, and at the Paducah branch on Park Avenue. (News, Source: Paducah Sun/Charmaine Voisine, 17 June 2007)

Elvis in the building...psychics reveal: Psychics have told Daytona Beach resident Jeffery Golden he is the reincarnation of Elvis Presley's twin brother, who died at birth. Saturday, judges will tell Golden and 19 other Elvis impersonators whether they have the right stuff to win the "Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest." "Legends In Concert" show drops Elvis as headline act: Is EPE heading in the wrong direction with its Elvis stratefy? As EPE gears up on a steady diet of ETA competitions, the times are a changing elsewhere.

There's a different wrinkle to the latest edition of "Legends in Concert," which runs through June 28 at Resorts Atlantic City. For the first time in memory -- maybe the first time ever -- the popular musical mimic-fest is not anchored by an Elvis Presley impersonator. While there are sure to be some "Legends" devotees for whom this will be a major disappointment, it certainly doesn't detract from what is, overall, a typically strong program. In Elvis' stead is Cookie Watkins, whose turn as Tina Turner is filled with appropriate amounts of sass, sizzle and sex appeal.

Sporting a nest of blond hair and long legs accentuated by dangerously spiked heels, Watkins looks amazingly similar to the rhythm 'n' blues legend. She, likewise, delivers an excellent approximation of the pop 'n' soul diva's guttural vocal style on such songs as "What's Love Got To Do with It" and her late-'60s signature take on "Proud Mary." Two other acts, Steve McCoy and John Anthony, give Watkins a run for her money. (Sale of EPE, Source: Courier Post Online)

Singer headlines 27th annual Spring Festival June 15-16: National recording artist Ronnie McDowell used to walk around the house as a child singing the songs he’d hear on the radio. It’s this music that would become the bread and butter of his life.
When he got out of Vietnam in 1972, he started out as a songwriter for country artists. Then in 1977, he hit national success when he wrote and sang “The King is Gone,” based on Elvis Presley. This fostered a continuing connection with Presley’s work, such as McDowell singing in several movies on the late singer.

“When you first do something that’s such an initial, overwhelming success, you will always be related to that first, initial success,” he said.

McDowell is currently recording his 45th album and performing live regularly. He will play the 27th annual Sagebrush Round-Up Spring Festival in Bunner Ridge on June 16 for one show at 8:30 p.m. His famous songs include “Older Women,” “You’re Going to Ruin My Bad Reputation” and “Watchin’ Girls Go By.” Making music has become one of the great thrills of McDowell’s life and has kept him performing all these years. One of his favorite experiences in his career was working and recording with his friend and hero, Conway Twitty.

“My love for it (has kept me going), but also it’s a great living,” he said. “I was fortunate enough to have a hit record and another and another and another. It’s a great way to make a living — doing what I love.”

And McDowell hopes to reflect that enjoyment in his live show.

“We sing a lot of our records and sing some things that influence me,” he said. “We get the audience to sing. We get them to dance and laugh. We just involve them in the show and make them feel a part of what we are doing and, basically, we have a ball.”

The spring festival will run from 6-11 p.m. on June 15 and from 1-10 p.m. on June 16. Performing in addition to McDowell on June 16 will be Wildfire, Floyd Cowger, Ray Hileman & The Wheels of Country, Your Request Band, Granny Blosser and The Round-Up Band. Admission to Saturday’s show is $15 at the gate and $10 in advance. For more information, call 304-292-5854.

Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest: Jacksonville native Neal McCoy’s East Texas Angel Network is the beneficiary of Love Me Tender, a June 23 tribute to Elvis Presley at 7 p.m. on Longview’s T.G. Field Auditorium. Tribute artists from throughout the Southwest are expected to compete in the event that is part of year-long, nationwide contest to determine the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist.

“Now is the time to enter,” Jacksonville’s Melody Walters, the owner of Mel’s Quick Stop and an organizer of the event, said. Currently the foundation has raised more than $3.5 million dollars in 10 years.

ETAN is committed to enhancing the lives of the children of East Texas who are living with terminal or life-threatening diseases. ETAN, through fundraising activities such as Love Me Tender, provides financial assistance for medical treatments and related costs to the children of East Texas and their families.

Ultimate ETA Contest in Canada: I’m writing to you today in your capacity as an Elvis Fan Club Leader to ask for your assistance in spreading the word about the Ultimate Elvis® Tribute Artist Contest™ preliminary round to be held in Ottawa/Gatineau, Canada. Our contest site was listed in early April and as such, we’ve been under a time-crunch to get the word around and let the ETAs and their fans know about our contest. We are holding this competition because we are huge fans of Elvis and truly respect the efforts and contributions of Elvis Tribute Artists everywhere who keep the memory of Elvis Presley alive and well.

Among the many benefits of coming to our contest location to compete, the biggest advantage to an ETA would be the increased chance that they would win our preliminary round and get to Memphis for the competition there. This would be especially beneficial to them if they have already registered in a high-traffic competition with many competitors.

Our competition will take place on Friday, July 6th at the Casino du Lac-Leamy and the Hilton Lac-Leamy – a 5-star resort complex in Gatineau, Quebec, right across the river from Ottawa, Ontario. We are accepting registrations of ETAs up until May 31st and we have limited spots available – both professional and amateurs are welcome to compete and registration can be completed online or mailed in. I invite you to go to our contest website at www.UltimateElvisTributeArtistContest.com to learn all about the contest and what we have to offer. I have also included a flyer and our press release to send out to your members if you wish to do so.

Please consider assisting us by spreading the word about our location to your fan club members and to your networks. Should you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me personally. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Made-In-Malaysia King of Rock and Roll: Elvis Presley "lives" again in Malaysia because of HT Long's long association with the King of Rock and Roll, dating back to the early sixties.

He has even met the man's legendary manager, Colonel Tom Parker, being a special guest to Memphis in 1984.

Scott Norton crowned The King in Tampa ETA Contest: The King of this contest was Scott Norton of Port St. Lucie. Norton was selected winner of The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest on Sunday, besting seven other finalists in an Elvis-off before a sold-out crowd at Stump's Supper Club at Channelside. Norton won $1,500, an Elvis Presley wig and the right to represent Tampa in the national Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist competition in Memphis, Tenn., in August.

Four judges did preliminary voting Friday and Saturday during the Elvis Festival sponsored by the Tampa Parks and Recreation Department and Elvis Presley Enterprises. Jack Smink of Rockledge was second, Orlando's Ted Torres finished third and Gary Elvis Britt of Plant City was fourth. Also making the finals from 35 Elvises entered were Elvis Wayne of Cape Coral, Tampa's Bill Lindsey, Jeff "Jelvis" La Jess of Seminole and Largo's Steve Roberti. Each finalist also received cash and prizes.

Elvis impersonators may be answer to Japanese island's problem - "Graceisland here we come!": Like many other places in Japan's countryside, Shiraishi Island is suffering from depopulation. When I came here 10 years ago, the population was 900. Now it is almost 700. Which goes to show that anyone can have his or her own island if one waits long enough. Soon, I'll be able to change the name to Amy Island. People will have to know the password to get onto the island and they may even have to log in before they come.

But of course, the island would be nothing without all the people on it who make it such a special place. Which is why everyone is searching for a way to increase the population here. Some ideas have been suggested. A bridge was once planned to connect our island and the five other islands in the Kasaoka island chain to the mainland. Bridges, long the symbol of prosperity and economic success in Japan, would bring tourists, commerce and jobs. Of all the five islands in our chain, Shiraishi Island was the only island that protested it. And without this approval, the bridge could not be built.

The Shiraishi people value their homeland and realize that a bridge will also bring crime, pollution, and other components of city life to this small, protected island community. Furthermore, a bridge would threaten the aura of the island, a special atmosphere created through the time-honored formula of interaction among the local people. Here, we don't have amusement parks, game centers, and shopping malls — we are the entertainment!

So the question is more how to revitalize the area while preserving the island atmosphere and sustaining a population. Most people blame Japan's declining population on the lack of children being born. But on our island of 700, where most people are way past child-bearing age, concentrating on increasing the population by having more children is silly.

Why don't we consider instead, trying to stop people from dying? After all, it's the people who are dying who are causing the decrease in population. Besides, once grandma and gramps die, the ancestral home is abandoned and no one benefits. These days, there is practically no chance that these people's grown children will ever move back to the island. As long as grandma and gramps are alive and eating and drinking, family members will come to visit and the local tradesman, grocers, and restaurants will benefit.

And, if we want to stop the dying, we're going to have to stop the hospital boat from coming. The hospital boat comes every couple of months and offers checkups, screening, testing, etc. to the people who live on these isolated islands.

But, am I the only one who has noticed that every time the boat comes, we lose a few islanders soon after they've been screened? Save the population! Stop that boat from coming! Some people suggest immigration as a possible answer to the population problems. You've heard of Ellis Island in the U.S., right? Over 12 million immigrants landed there between 1892 and 1954. Well, everyone also knows that immigration is not really the Japanese way. So, if we can't have an Ellis Island, how about an Elvis Island?

Japan loves Elvis Presley and there are many Elvis impersonators here, so perhaps we could get all them to come and live here on Shiraishi Island.

With all of them on one Elvis Island, they could live, not in Graceland but Grace-island. They could build their own mansions with jungle rooms and racquetball courts. Former prime minister Junichiro Koizumi would surely have a mansion here.

Elvis impersonators wouldn't need a bridge to drive a car here either as they could just fly here in their private jets. And Elvis impersonators love to interact with people.

We could all sing karaoke and gyrate our hips together every day. And there would be live concerts on the beach every weekend. Perhaps the best thing about an Elvis Island is that we'd never have to worry about the population declining again. Because, as every knows, Elvis lives forever! AUSTRALIA.....ARE YOU READY READY FOR SOME ROCK ‘N ROLL HISTORY?

August 16th, 2007 marks the 30th anniversary of the death of The King and ELVIS MEETS THE BEATLES is a unique and breathtaking tribute to the undisputed king of rock ‘n roll Elvis Presley, at this special time.

Argentino Russo – Musical Director for the show said “we’ve created a show that befits honouring the King of rock ‘n roll on the 30 th anniversary of his death, but we’ve added a twist. We wanted to see what it would be like if we developed a show that featured not only arguably the world’s best homage to the King, but also another legendary band, The Beatles and ELVIS MEETS THE BEATLES was borne. Its never been done before by Max Pellicano and The Beatnix and it’s allowed us to create a jaw-dropping musical experience, spanning 30 years musical history. The show will not only be entertaining, fun and mind blowingly authentic, it also promises to deliver some very special moments as Elvis ‘meets’ The Beatles live on stage”.

This national tour, featuring at least 2 ½ hours of entertainment, with acclaimed musicians, using authentic instruments, supported on stage with by a brilliant string orchestra!

The stars of ELVIS MEETS THE BEATLES will be Max Pellicano and The Beatnix.

Long considered to be the best in the world in the art of honouring the King, Max Pellicano has inspired many a critic to rave about his performances; “Tens of thousands of people world-wide have stood in amazement as Max Pellicano delivers a tribute to The King that can only be considered “breathtaking”. His tribute to the King is flawless and you’ll find yourself moved in time …”

Everything about Max is just like the King. He is a haunting clone of the pelvis swivelling King of Rock ‘n Roll. Pellicano looks like, sings like and cavorts on stage like Elvis at his absolute best. The legend lives on through Max Pellicano.

Here’s what the critics have been saying: “seeing Max doing Elvis was like being frozen in time – looking back on my own life” Charlie Hodge – Elvis backing vocalist.

“There are a lot of Elvis acts around, but Max is at the top”. Rolling Stone Magazine.

“Max as Elvis is sheer entertainment. You’ll be amazed” Sunday Mail.

“Elvis resurrected” San Francisco Chronicle.

And if that wasn’t enough, Glenn A Baker, respected music critic wrote of The Beatnix: “The Beatnix deftly honour and celebrate the Fab Four with enthusiasm, charm and considerable finesse”

These fab four musicians, keep their tribute to The Beatles breathtakingly real as they re-create with frightening accuracy the sound, feel and energy that was The Beatles. From the early hits, such as I Want to hold your hand and She loves you, through to the famous Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and more, The Beatnix promise to take you on a magical mystery tour when Elvis meets The Beatles in August, 2007

It’s the concert of a lifetime, featuring all the hits, as Elvis and The Beatles together take centre stage – it just doesn’t get any bigger than that!

Search for Britain's top ETA: PULL on your blue suede shoes and start practising your lip curl – the search is on for the best Liverpool Elvis.

Fans of the King are invited to take part in a national competition, Britain’s Best Elvis 2007, to find the most convincing impersonator.

The Merseyside heat will take place at Southport Theatre on April 21 and Elvises are expected to try out their crooning and hip-swiveling gyrations on a panel of judges.

Lovers of Elvis, male and female and of any age, will get the chance to battle it out for three places in the One Night Of Elvis: The Return To Memphis show to take place that night.

The audience will pick a winner to go to the UK grand final in Blackpool in June, where they will battle it out for a place in the international final in Memphis, USA, in August.

The competition, organised by the Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain, kicks off at 1pm, with the show to follow at 7.30pm.

Todd Slaughter, who has run the club for 40 years, said: “It is great fun. We want to hear from Elvis’s with a Merseyside accent – not a fake Memphis one. We’d love to see female Elvis’s and kids too.

“Elvis is a great communicator and is still inspiring people 30 years after his death. People adore his music. There is a huge appetite and audience for Elvis even after all these years. When we have organised prev-ious searches we have been inundated with Elvis’s. People have to be prepared to sing one Elvis song, without backing, for the judges. It is a bit like X-Factor but without the Simon Cowell cynicism.

“We are looking for someone with a great voice and personality. We know people will turn up in sunglasses and wigs and jumpsuits that have been made for them. It is a really good opportunity for our winner to compete for a nice holiday to Memphis.”

Are you Merseyside’s best Elvis? If so contact Mary Murtagh on 0151-472 2504 or email:

Aussie female ETA has US critics "all shook up": She is the Elvis Presley impersonator who has critics in the US all shook up. Sydney singer Jacqueline Feilich is the only Australian competitor - and one of a handful of women - to make the second round of an official Elvis impersonator competition being held for the first time by Elvis Presley Enterprises.

The owners of the giant Elvis corporation usually snub impersonators. This is the first time they've embraced international Elvis performers.

Feilich is among 72 competitors chosen for the Elvis competition - there are about 250,000 Elvis impersonators worldwide - and will travel to Tupelo, Mississippi, in June to strut her stuff.

"This is the first time they've paid any attention to tribute artists," Feilich said. "Now they're really going hard with this - promoting it left, right and centre - saying the winner will be named the ultimate Elvis tribute artist."

The 36-year-old gemologist has been copying Elvis since she was three. After 10 years of building up a profile under her performance name She is the King, she works as a full-time Elvis impersonator.

"I'm obsessed [with Elvis]," she said.

Feilich sent a digital audition to Elvis Presley Enterprises late last year. She waited three months to hear if she was successful, such was the demand for auditions. (Source: Sydney Morning Herald, 25 March 2007)

ETA makes history at Graceland: For the first time in history Graceland has endorsed and approved an Elvis Tribute Artist to participate in one of their licensed events. The event occurred yesterday in Memphis.

Out of thousands of Elvis singers, David Crews was honored and selected to actually perform 4 songs in front of Jack Soden, President of EPE and EPE Executive Staff and guests at the American Diabetes Gala Event and Auction. He was dressed in a 68 Comeback Special Leather outfit at Graceland's request to reflect their emphasis in 2007 of the 68 Comeback Special.

Never before has Graceland ever endorsed an Elvis Tribute Artist for a licensed EPE event according to Jack Soden, President and we are thrilled to announce that they have selected him. He will be riding into the event itself through the building into the ballroom on the back of a Harley Davidson motorcycle !

In 1999, David did a cameo appearance in a Showtime Movie but for Graceland's policy was not allowed past the gates of Graceland for filming and filming had to be done outside the gates of Graceland.

David and his 12 piece show band, The EP Express Band, will be hosting a $300.00 a head fundraiser special Harley Davidson, American Diabetes and Graceland sponsored/licensed event April 21st on the rooftop of the Gibson downtown Memphis.

There are many great Elvis Tribute Artists out there and believe us David is truly grateful for this unique opportunity. For more information visit: www.elvisentertainmentofmphs.com (Almost Elvis, Source: David Crews, 24 March 2007)

"Elvis" concert at Strand aims to raise funds for Arc: For the moment, Ernest Gabriele's undivided attention was to a reporter asking him questions. He gave his age, 67, where he grew up, Philadelphia, and where he lives now, a home in New Jersey for the mentally disabled.

But then, seeing the man in black wearing shades and thick sideburns a few feet away, Gabriele — sporting his own red cape and jumpsuit — re-focused."Elvis!" he said and ran over to slap the sweating impersonator on the back. "What's up, partner? You look sharp, man.

"Gabriele, who became a fan when his mother took him to see Elvis years ago, had come Saturday with a special-needs group called Special Vacation to the Strand Theatre for a repeat performance. He now was admiring the sideburns on this particular imitator of the King, Ruben Castillo."They real? I'm working on mine, here," he said, touching his temples.Castillo had just finished singing a number. About six of his fellow impersonators — collars up, drenched in cologne — mingled in the theater lobby waiting for their turns on-stage.

The three-hour concert was a benefit to raise money for The Arc, a nonprofit agency that represents those with special needs. About 500 people bought tickets. As Robin Collins, Arc's program coordinator for the Ocean County chapter, explained: "Our clients have an affinity for Elvis."

In fact, she said, this concert fundraiser began four years ago with one act from impersonator Andrew Howard before a small crowd of clients at the agency's main office on Cedar Bridge Road. It was so popular, they moved the show to the Toms River Elks Lodge. Packing the 300-person standing-room only club, Arc raised between $1,500 and $2,500.When even that venue grew too small, the show moved to the luxurious Strand Theatre for Saturday.

This year, Arc also joined forces with Howard Enterprises, which held an Elvis convention at the theater an hour before the show. Arranged on the vendor tables was everything from Elvis comforters and dishware to a $12 box of Elvis cologne coupled with a cassette featuring "Come What May."Samuel Formica, stage name Sammy J., stood by one table in his white checkerboard suit, a gold ring on each finger."I get more joy out of this than anything else I do," he said, of impersonating. "I like keeping Elvis' name alive. I like the fans' reactions. There's a certain adrenaline rush you get that you can only find maybe in skydiving.

"Formica began performing seriously about five years ago when he sang karaoke as a joke at a bar on the 30th anniversary of the King's death."I just really liked it," said Formica. It seems many of the impersonators more stumbled than intended on a side-career as an Elvis double. For Andrew Howard, it was Halloween night years ago when he dressed as the rocker. He now has run these conventions for six years. His best impersonation, however, is Johnny Cash.

"He's the man," he said. "And there's only one Elvis." (Source: Charmaine Voisine)

USA - Elvis imitator honors the King with 2 concerts: Don't be surprised if you see Elvis impersonators toting balloons and flowers next week. Many will be celebrating the birthday of the "King" of rock 'n' roll, who would have turned 71 Monday. Tucsonan Robert Shaw, 28, is among them. He and his Elvis tribute band will honor the legend in a concert Jan. 15 at The Gaslight Theatre. Shaw discusses his career as an Elvis imitator with Calendar Plus.

Question: When did you first start impersonating Elvis?

Answer: I first started performing theater in high school, and then worked my way up from there. I guess that, by virtue of having dark hair and being able to carry a tune, anytime there was ever an Elvis song in a show, it would always go to me. I started performing the full-on Elvis tribute act nearly two years ago, I work full time at the Gaslight Theatre and we were doing a show that was sort of a spoof of an Elvis movie and several folks encouraged me to try and do an Elvis "concert." I put together a band and we started by doing a tribute to Elvis' younger years and it just took off, and now we're more than 30 sold-out shows later.

What about him appealed to you?

Well, I've always enjoyed Elvis' music but I wasn't always a die-hard fan. As I mentioned, this whole thing started almost coincidentally, but as our act progressed I learned more and more about the man and his music. As well as being a tremendous musician who revolutionized the way the world experiences music, he was also a dynamic live performer and a philanthropist. You always hear stories about how he'd give away his car to a stranger or buy a house for one of his buddies. But he also quietly gave away millions of dollars to hundreds of charitable organizations. We all know he wasn't without his faults, but he was a great man, nonetheless. As a result of all this, I have become a huge Elvis fan.

What did your family and friends think of your act?

Everyone has been overwhelmingly positive. At first I got a few funny looks. But I've got a tremendous support system. I'm also very lucky to be surrounded by top-caliber musicians. I consider my band to be the real secret to my success.

What kind of special training did you have to undergo?

The school of hard knocks! It's been a real learn-as-you-go experience. I'm fortunate though that my background is in musical theater, and that lends itself quite well to the Elvis side of things. I also watched lots and lots of Elvis movies, documentaries and footage of live performances and educated myself on his life by reading several comprehensive biographies.

What about your pelvis and hips? How naturally wiggleable are they?

Well, I'm not quite as wild as Elvis was, but you'll definitely see some hip swiveling at one of our shows.
Which one of Elvis' co-stars was the hottest and why?

Elvis was a lucky guy. He got to share the screen with some of the most beautiful and talented women Hollywood had to offer. But, without a doubt, Ann-Margret was the best. She could sing, she could dance, she could act, and she was gorgeous.

If someone wanted to paint a velvet painting of you, how would you react?
I think I'd be flattered. Who doesn't like velvet paintings, really?
Which songs do fans request the most?

You'd think it would be "Hound Dog" or "Blue Suede Shoes," but our most requested tune is an arrangement of a gospel song - "How Great Thou Art" - that is modeled after the way Elvis did it at his concerts. It's a very powerful and stirring rendition and we do our best to stay true to it. I'd say after that it's a tie between "Suspicious Minds" and "Burning Love."

OK, pretend you're the real Elvis. What would you tell daughter Lisa Marie about her marriage to Michael Jackson? (Source: ROGELIO OLIVAS, Tucson Citizen, Jan 2007)

Elvis Fans Network

USA - Shawn Klush: For Elvis Presley fans, Friday, Jan. 5 at the Paramount Theatre marks a night when The King's music will be in one era, then into another. Four Elvis Presley stylists, in addition to other featured guests, will present the music of Presley during The Elvis Birthday Tribute. The concert follows the singer through his early rock-a-billy years, his movie years, his 1968 comeback television special and his Las Vegas concert years.

Presley would have turned 72 on Jan. 8.

The tribute is split between four Elvis performers, covering roughly the years from 1956 to 1973. Donny Edwards will perform in the early rock-a-billy years segment, Rick Saucedo will present the movie years, Matt Lewis will re-create the 1968 comeback special and Shawn Klush will perform in the Las Vegas concert years segment.

"People just can't see him anymore," said Klush about the appeal of Presley stylists like himself. "If someone puts on a tape of Aloha from Hawaii (a 1973 Elvis concert), that brings back a bunch of memories."

The 37-year-old Klush, who resides in Pittston, Penn., has no real memories of Presley since he was only a child when The King died in 1977.

But the Presley stylist was surrounded by music when he was growing up.

"My father, Ed, was a disc jockey in the 1950s," said Klush last year. "By 16 years of age I had every Elvis, Beatles and blues album that existed. I was an only child and music was a big part of my growing up. Most of what my dad played at home was Dean Martin, Elvis and Mahalia Jackson."

Klush first performed as Elvis when he was three years old, but has been doing it professionally since 1985. During some intense years, he played more than 600 dates in one year.

Klush's Elvis gigs have included performing in the famous Poconos region followed by a tour of Canada where he won a prize in the Worldwide Elvis Competition in Montreal. This caught the attention of the Las Vegas show, "Legends in Concert," where in 2004, he starred as Elvis in their Branson, Mo., production. He also alternated in their Las Vegas and Atlantic City show rooms. Klush also portrayed Elvis in the TV miniseries Shake, Rattle and Roll, which aired on CBS in 2000.

Klush believes he is a better Elvis stylist because he surrounds himself with people who associated with Presley. In the tribute show, for example, guest artists include: D.J. Fontana, Elvis' original drummer who played on more than 45 recording sessions between 1956 and 1968 and performed on 28 movie soundtracks; The Sweet Inspirations, who appeared with Elvis on almost all of his concert tours from 1969 to 1977; and the Fabulous Ambassadors Band.

"I understand his personality in a different way because of knowing the people who worked with him," said Klush in an interview last year. "I take that into consideration when I am performing. I talk to the Jordanaires and Joe Esposito (an Army buddy and road manager for Elvis) and I draw from them on a professional level. I do not take it to the extreme by saying 'This is me,' but I stand on stage and say, 'This is how it was.'"

As for this year's tribute show, Klush said that some changes might be in place.

"We always try to change it up a bit; do different songs from that era," said Klush, who handles the time from 1969 to 1973 in the tribute show. "Maybe it is the anniversary of what went on during that time period or maybe it is the 40th year since a song was written, so we make note of it in the show."

But one thing that stays the same is Klush's commitment to his craft.

"If you are not doing it from your heart," he said of his performances as Elvis Presley. "Then you are not doing it right."

The Elvis Birthday Tribute will be presented at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, at the Paramount Theatre, 23 East Galena Blvd., Aurora. Tickets range in price from $20 to $49. Tickets are available at the Paramount Theatre box office, by phone at (630) 896-6666, or at all TicketMaster outlets. (News, Source: Charmaine Voisine)

Join the UCAC for this first-time musical celebration of Elvis through the '50s, '60s and '70s. The evening’s review features three stages of Elvis’ career and life represented by three award-winning Elvis impersonators, backed by a 10-piece orchestra.

Ray Guillemette Jr. will kick off the tribute with his performance of Elvis through the '50s. Guillemette Jr. is one of today's leading Elvis tribute artists. Check out this nine-time, international first-place Elvis impersonator and watch him rock your world with his striking look, vocal range and excitement. Ray delivers with the style and energy that was Elvis.

Mark Reno will continue the evening with his tribute performance of Elvis through the '60s. National champion Reno is an enthusiastic, multi-talented, high-energy Elvis impersonator of the Las Vegas concert years. A dynamic performer, Mark's likeness to Elvis is uncanny. Taking great care in authenticity, Mark has all authentic jumpsuits made by the same designers used by Elvis.

Don’t miss New Jersey’s own Anthony Liguori, Jr. perform his nationally acclaimed Elvis of the '70s. Liguori, Jr. is also one of the country's top Elvis tribute artists. He performs his show stopping reviews in concerts, casinos and cruise ships throughout the country. Anthony has also portrayed Elvis for "Legends in Concert", an internationally acclaimed show that pays tribute to the superstars of show business.

Hips set to wiggle in Tupelo: Nobody swiveled their hips quite like the King of Rock n' Roll, but people will be welcome to try at the 2007 Elvis Presley Festival. Organizers will pit tribute artists against each other and the winner will earn the right to represent Elvis' hometown in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest in Memphis.

"We have room for 72 competitors this year, so we're doing a call for entries," said Debbie Brangenberg, executive director of the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association, which oversees the festival.

The performers will be judged by vocals, appearance, stage presence and other rock n' roll qualities. Official rules and registration forms are located at www.tupeloelvisfestival.com , and the deadline for entries is Feb. 1. Brangenberg said there's already been plenty of interest.

"We've had about 120 inquiries," she said. "We've heard from 23 states and from six countries."

Contestants will need to send a DVD or CD recording of their performance, an 8-by-10-inch black and white photo and a 50-word bio. The field will be cut to 72, then 28, then 10 will shake, rattle and roll in the finals.

The winner will represent Tupelo at the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest in Memphis during Elvis Week, Aug. 11-17. They'll also get $2,500 in cash and a guitar from Tupelo Hardware, as well as a bronze replica of the statue of Elvis at 13 that's on display at the Elvis Presley Birthplace Museum.

"We're very excited," Brangenberg said. "We've just had a huge response to this already. We're amazed." (Source: http://tinyurl.com/y6cx89 /Charmaine Voisine)
